Under de senaste två åren har Coronapandemin lett till att vi har blivit tvungna att spendera mycket mer tid i våra hem, där vi har behövt både arbeta och vila. Hemmet har blivit allt viktigare för oss, både när det gäller funktion och bekvämligheter. Flera undersökningar visar att en majoritet av svenska folket vill att företaget de jobbar på ska bli mer flexibla när det kommer till arbete som utförs från hemmet även efter pandemin.   Med mitt kandidatprojekt I Pandemins Spår vill jag visa på möbler som kan underlätta en arbetsdag i hemmet. Projektet syftar till att ge ett svar på konflikten mellan kraven på flexibilitet i arbetslivet och hemmets tilltagande platsbrist.    Då jag har studerat olika tänkta situationer för arbete i hemmet såsom digitala möten, fokuserade stunder för att producera och att läsa har min slutsats blivit att dessa olika situationer under arbetsdagen kan med fördel spenderas på olika platser i hemmet, för att uppmuntra till variation och rörelse.    Genom flera olika metoder inom möbelformgivning, såsom skisser, skalmodeller, ritningar, mockups i full skala, materialval, prototyper mm, har jag tagit fram ett designförslag som kan underlätta människors behov i hemmet där både vila och arbete kan samsas på liten yta.

Projektet har handlat om hur man skapar produkter som uppmanar till långvarig användning, med syftet att påverka människors konsumtionsvanor samt förhållningssätt till sina produkter. Genom litteraturstudier och en enkätundersökning fanns att produkter med affektionsvärde var det som användaren värderade högst, det var också detta värde som var svårast för en designer att påverka. Olika principer för hur affektionsvärde kan uppstå mellan en användare och dess produkt lokaliserades, dessa låg sedan till grund för den kreativa processen. Där försökte olika av dessa principer gestaltas i produkter. Resultatet blev möbelkollektionen Wither&Blossom bestående av ett matbord och en pall. Matbordet har inslag av obehandlat trä, denna yta kommer präglas av händelser kring bordet och göra det möjligt att skapa minnen tillsammans med produkten. Pallen måste användaren slita för att den ska nå sin fulla potential. De principer som framkommit under projektets gång anses högst användbara och tillämpningen av dem är en viktig faktor för minskandet av dagens slit och släng kultur. / The project has focused on creating products that encourages a prolonged use, with the aim to influence people’s consumption habits and their approach to products. Through literature studies and a survey it was found that products with sentimental value, was valued most by users, it was also the value that was most difficult for a designer to influence. Different principles on how sentimental value may occur between a user and its product was localized, these later formed the basis for the creative process. In the creative processvarious of these principles tried to be portrayed in different products. The result was the furniture collection Wither & Blossom, consisting of a dining table and a stool. The kitchen table has elements of raw wood, this space will be marked by incidents happening on the table and makes it possible to create memories with the product. The stool, has to be used and worn for it to reach its full potential. The principles that emerged during the project is considered more than useful, and their application is an important factor in the reduction of today’s throwaway culture.

Denna rapport har skrivits i samband med ett examensarbete i integrerad produktutveckling. Rapporten genomfördes under den avslutande kursen på designingenjörsprogrammet vid högskolan i Skövde 2008 i samarbete med företaget Lundbergs Möbler AB i Tibro. Rapporten redogör för designprocessen där en lösning för att integrera företagets iläggsskivor tas fram för deras matbord. Rapporten skildrar projektets olika delar från förstudie till slutligt koncept. Projektets inledande förstudie påvisade framförallt hur konkurrenternas lösningsprinciper ser ut, hur hanteringen av dagens iläggsskiva ser ut och dess hanteringsproblem samt ergonomin kring hanteringen av iläggsskivan. Det som framkom i förstudien låg därefter som beslutsunderlag för den fortsatta produktutvecklingen. Dessa områden gav en klarhet i om projektet var genomförbart och vidare vilka fysiska begränsningar och möjligheter projektet hade inför det fortsatta produktutvecklingsarbetet. Med den nya kunskapen bakom sig inleddes idégenereringsfasen. Här användes flera olika idégenereringsmetoder för att generera en mängd nya idéer. Idéerna utvecklades sedan för att därefter resultera i tre olika koncept. Förslagen pressenterades därefter för företaget som gick igenom koncepten och beslutade vilket koncept vi skulle arbeta vidare med. Efter företagets val använde vi oss av konceptvalsmatriser i den fortsatta produktutvecklingen för att nå fram till den bästa slutprodukten. Till sist framställdes en CAD-modell av det slutgiltiga konceptet och en teknisk prototyp tillverkad utefter denna modell. Prototypen gav en uppfattning om hur väl mekaniken hos konceptet fungerade. / This report covers the result of a final thesis in Product Design Engineering, in partial fulfillment of the Product Design Engineering program held at the University of Skövde. This report describes a project that was carried out in conjunction with Lundbergs Möbler in Tibro. The objective of the report is to convey the design process of integrating a table leaf into a Lundbergs dining table. The report will also present the product as it goes through the whole design process from idea, materializing in a prototype and concluding to a final concept/product. A pre study displays an overall view of product handling and current market solutions of today's table leaves, where handling issues and ergonomics of table leaf usage is illuminated. The information from the pre study has determined the feasibility of the project and has also been utilized as a foundation for a project specification upon which further product development can commence. With the information from the pre study as a foundation, the idea generation phase could begin. Different creativity methods are used to bring forth several innovatory ideas that can be utilized in improving the product. These ideas were improved on and evaluated to result in three different concepts. These concepts were then presented to Lundbergs Möbler who went through them and decided which concept to go forward with. Conceptual matrices were then used to steer further development of the product. When the concept was developed to satisfaction a CAD-model and a physical prototype has been built from the specifications and measurements from the CAD program. The prototype demonstrated the function of the mechanism that had resulted from the project. The prototype that resulted from integrating a table leaf in a dining table gave a functional mechanism that could be taken into production.

Detta examensarbete vid Konstfack inom Inredningsarkitektur och Möbeldesign har kommit att handla om en vilja att lära sig något nytt och utmanas inom det en tidigare inte gjort. Inom arbetet har det kommit att bli en undersökning av ett Perstorpsbord från 1960-talet. Det har varit en källa till inspiration och visat på lärdomar inom möbelkonstruktion och möbelformgivning. Projektets tyngd ligger i att förstå och se samband mellan de två aspekterna. Med detta som grund har en transformation skett där Perstorpsbordet har kommit att bli ett nytt, med förändringar inom form, material och konstruktion.  Avsikten har varit att gestalta det nya bordet kallat NAVET, för en ungdom som ofta flyttar emellan boenden. Med det i åtanke så har behov av bordet blivit fastställda som sedan kommit att bli en del av utformningen. Jag jobbar med Perstorpsbordets befintliga funktioner samtidigt som det ska placeras i samtiden och därmed utvecklas. Därav ändras bordets form, material och kulör, samtidigt som jag behåller de aspekter med Perstorpsbordet som utifrån mina undersökningar ansågs vara fungerande hos bordet ännu idag.  Det var viktigt för mig att gå igenom en gestaltningsprocess av en möbel från start till slut. Från ett undersökande med nyfikenhet och öppna ögon, så var syftet att ta det vidare igenom en process av arbete som skisser, anteckningar, mock-up, prototyper och samtal med mera. För att leda fram till att själv stå i verkstaden och försöka förverkliga denna idé av ett bord i full skala.  Mitt mål är att personligen utveckla mer kunskap om såväl en möbel, som dess relation till fältet samt hur jag själv jobbar. Jag upptäckte en för mig ny förundran inför möbler tack vare denna djupdykning och en förståelse för det arbete som ligger bakom. Jag anser därför att detta projekt har gett mig möjligheten att bli bättre som inredningsarkitekt och möbeldesigner. / This thesis project at Konstfack in Interior Architecture and Furniture Design has centered on a desire to learn something new and be challenged in areas I have not previously explored. During this work, it has become an investigation of a Perstorp table from the 1960s. It has been a source of inspiration, providing insights into furniture construction and design. The project’s core lies in understanding and seeing the connections between these two aspects. Using this as a foundation, a transformation has taken place where the Perstorp table has become a new piece, with changes in form, material, and construction. The intention has been to design the new table, called NAVET (The Hub), for a young person who frequently moves between homes. With this in mind, the needs of the table were identified and subsequently incorporated into the design. I am working with the existing functions of the Perstorp table while also aiming to place it in a contemporary context and thus develop it further. Therefore, the table’s shape, material, and color have been changed, while retaining the aspects of the Perstorp table that my research showed to be still functional today. It was important for me to go through a design process for a piece of furniture from start to finish. Starting with exploration driven by curiosity and open-mindedness, the goal was to advance through a work process involving sketches, notes, mock-ups, prototypes, and discussions, among other things, leading to the point where I am in the workshop, attempting to realize this idea of a table in full scale. My goal is to personally develop more knowledge about a piece of furniture, its relation to the field, and how I work. I discovered a newfound admiration for furniture thanks to this deep dive and gained an understanding of the work involved. Therefore, I believe this project has given me the opportunity to become a better interior architect and furniture designer.
