"Estudo da ocorrência de acidentes entre trabalhadores de uma indústria frigorífica do Estado de São Paulo" / "A study on the occurrence of accidents among workers at a meat packing industry in the State of São Paulo"

Campoamor, Marilia Marcondes 29 May 2006 (has links)
Meat packing work is marked by repetitive activities; intense work rhythm; environments with inadequate levels of illumination, noise and temperature; presence of dust; small spaces and frequent handling of cutting instruments. These characteristics make this activity exhausting and dangerous and, hence, an interesting object of study, but is socially relevant due to the large quantity of agriculture and cattle industries in the country. We carried out a non-experimental, descriptive, quantitative and epidemiological study, based on secondary data, aimed at analyzing the occurrence of Work Accidents (WA) at a meat packing industry. The research was carried out at a meat processing and packing industry located in the interior of the State of São Paulo. The target population included Work Accident Notifications (CAT) registered at the Specialized Occupational Safety and Medicine Service (SEESMET) in 2004 and 2005. Data were collected through document analysis of the CAT, identifying the sociodemographic characteristics of the accident victims, characterizing work accidents and calculating the cost of the work days lost due to the accident occurrence. We found 137 WA, 134 (97.8%) of which were typical and 3 (2.2%) commuting accidents. Victims were 135 workers active in different company units, with the following characteristics: workers were between 18 and 73 years old, with 56 (41.5%) professionals between 25 and 40 years old; 108 workers were men (80%); 59 (43.7%) were married; average monthly salaries amounted to R$ 572.74 reais. Most accident victims were either meat packing aids (62.2 %) or general service aids (9.6%) and a majority of accidents, that is, 65.7%, happened at the poultry unit. One hundred two (74.5%) of the total number of accidents caused sick leave. The greatest WA frequency (47.4%) was found during the morning shift. As to the causal agent, work instruments represented 42.3% of the events, followed by the environment (39.4%). One hundred eighteen of the WA (86.1%) were responsible for a sick leave of up to 15 days and, in 2 cases (1.5%), for more than 16 days. Seventeen (12.4%) accident registers did not contain any information in this respect. The most frequent diagnoses were superficial head injuries and other specific ankle and foot injuries (16.02%), diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue (10.9%); external causes, exposure to mechanical forces, accidents with respiratory risks, exposure to electrical current, extreme temperatures (8.03%), superficial injuries involving multiple body regions (2.19%). As to the costs incurred due to the loss of work days caused by the WA, we identified that the company lost an estimated amount of R$ 20,427.67 Reais during the study period.

The techniques innovations of the livestock and agricultural sector (mechanics, biological, physical-chemistries and in the practices of production), continue happening; now specifically to attend a market each time more global, where the meat packing industry has traced new space strategies of operation. The cattle livestock is a emblematic case of these questions, both for its productive restructuring as geographical, although of the little attention that has been received recently by the Geographers. The paper analyses the evolution of the pastoralism activity in the state of Goiás, between 1920 and 2012, in its binomial raising-slaughtering, in other words, approaches the cattle production in the rural space and the meat processing industry. In this time frame, we identified three techno-spatial phases: the traditional cattle production, the cattle industrialization, and the internationalization of the agribusiness of the cattle meat, which shows characteristics specific techniques and spatial. Other question to be discussed is that the technicisation of the countryside changed the geographical space, intensifying the use of the land and increasing the productivity, with social, economic and environmental implications, related to the techniques innovations, and the insertion of artificial objects. Due to the recent process of internationalization, the research ends the current context of projection of the agribusiness of Goiás in the international space, focusing the in the acting of the biggest multinational cattle meat industry – JBS S.A. (Friboi), in its spatial trajectory.

Majtán, Marián January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on project documentation of Meat packing plant. Along with meat processing the documentation solve question of accomodation for employees. Building consists of two main sections: The processing – it is structured under requierements of meat packing industry. Second one is residential part set in 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor. Main inspiration for design are meat packing plants in Scandinavian countries, where is often need to provide accomodation to employess because of disadvantageous geographic locality. Building is built of Heluz building system, perimeter walls consists of insulation filled blocks. Building is without basement and it is based on footings of plaint. The roof is flat, partially designed as extensive green roof. Isover system is used to thermal insulation. A part of object is also asphalted plain for transport goods to and from the meat packing plant.

Hansson, Lars January 2004 (has links)
From the begiining of the 20th century producer co-operative bacon factories were established in the south of Sweden. In his thesis Lars Hansson studies how class relations were shaped and transformed within this rural industry. The producer co-operative slaughter associations consisted of a large number of members from smallholders to large scale agrarian producers. The power of the associations was concentrated in the hands of the big producers, but the manangers also had a considerable power, due to their expert knowledge of the buisness and the bacon markets in U.K. The workers of the producer co-operative slaughter houses were mostly unskilled workers, with little or no knowledge of butchering. From the 1910’s the workers unionized but their organisation was not accepted by the employers and harsh labour disputes took place during the 1920’s. From the 1930’s the farmers producer co-operative movement grew all over Sweden and they formed a political alliance with the Social democratic Party. The Swedish labour market became more peaceful as the employers and the unions began to co-operate to a greater extent. The Food Workers Union was more and more integrated in the Swedish society and thereby lost its earlier antisystemic character and were more and more transformed into a systemic movement. The slaughter house workers union had a distinct patriarchal characters from its start and its attitude towards women workers was ambivalent. During WWII, however, the attitude changed and more women were active in class practice in order to improve their situation.
