Estudo do comportamento mecânico de cilindros de compósito epóxi/fibra de basalto em ensaios hidrostáticos / Study of mechanical behavior of epoxy/basalt fiber composite cylinders under hydrostatic tests

Mauro Henrique Lapena 26 January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this work was to study the mechanical behavior of fiber reinforced polymer composite cylinders. For this purpose, cylinders reinforced with basalt and glass fibers were produced, with open-ended geometry, using filament winding technique. These cylinders were submitted to hydrostatic test under circunferential loading, split disk (ring segment) test and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS). A basalt fiber composite plate was produced by filament winding for characterization by tensile strength test. All cylinders submitted to hydrostatic test presented fracture located in the height range of the cylinder, with extensive delamination of the circumferential layers. The epoxy/basalt fiber composites overcame or equated the epoxy/glass fiber composites in comparisons between results of the mechanical properties, tensile strength in split disk, in 45% and 43% in specific strength; ILSS in 11%; membrane tensile strength in the hydrostatic test, in 55%.

A detailed knowledge of the raw material used in the beverage can body production is essential to maintain and improve the productivity levels imposed by the market. It is on this point that the present work focus, in the micro structural and mechanical characterization of three different AA 3104-H19 rolled coils, to be able to compare them in search of similarities and discrepancies. Their chemical compositions were analyzed by energy dispersion (EDS), and atomic absorption (AA) spectrometry, their micro structures were identified by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Their mechanical properties were described by tensile tests, Erichsen tests, forming limit curves (FLC), micro hardness Vickers tests, and surface roughness tests (Ra). The anisotropy coefficient R, also known as Lankford´s R, and the strain hardening exponent n were calculated using the results and specimens of the tensile tests. In addition, their crystallographic textures were analyzed by orientation distribution functions and pole figures. The experiment s results showed a strong similarity among all three rolled sheets, their properties differing only subtly. On average the yield strength of all three was found to be 265 MPa, their ultimate tensile strength 285 MPa. Elongation was very similar for all three, around 4.7%. The strain hardening exponent n averaged 0.078, a value comparable to some found in literature. The normal (R) and planar (UR) anisotropy values were found to be 0.77 and 0.22, respectively, indicating a slight tendency to form ears at 45o and good deep drawing formability. The microstructure analysis of all three sheets revealed two kinds of intermetallic compounds with distinct morphology, Al6(Fe,Mn) and Al12(Fe,Mn)3Si, not scattered homogeneously, together with well distributed dispersoids in the aluminum matrix. The crystallographic texture of the three sheets also exhibited similarities; all had the same dominant components with comparable intensities. On all three it was possible to notice that the typical strain hardening textures, Brass {110}<112> and Copper {112}<111>, together with Goss {110}<001>, were balanced by the Cube {001}<100> component, typical of recrystallization. The notable differences found could be summarized in slightly higher mechanical properties for one of the sheets and smaller and less widespread intermetallic compounds for another.

Processamento e caracterização da liga 66%Co-28%Cr-6%Mo para implantes / Processing and Characterization of the 66Co-28Cr-6Mo (%weight) alloy for implants

Luiz Alberto dos Santos 27 February 2012 (has links)
In this study we evaluated the processing conditions and characterization alloy 28%Cr 66%Co-6%Mo used in implants. Each ingot was produced by through arc melting arcing under argon atmosphere in a water-cooled copper crucible. The results were compared with those of a commercial bar 66Co-28Cr-6Mo alloy. The temperature of hot forging 66Co-28Cr-6Mo alloy should be around 1200 º C because lower temperatures lead to fracture of the material during forging. In the chemical analysis performed on the alloy 66Co-28Cr-6Mo obtained a concentration 0,038 %C. Indeed the alloy 66Co-28Cr-6Mo produced are within the specifications of ASTM F1537 for the alloy with low carbon (0.14% C). The ingots had a polycrystalline microstructure with the presence of volumetric defects (pores) possibly arised from the solidification process. Oxidation tests were carried out at temperatures of 1200 oC, 1100 oC 1000 oC and 900 oC for about 30 minutes to evaluate the degree of oxidation of 66Co-28Cr -6Mo alloy at high temperatures because of the mechanical forming league will be held hot. The tensile yield strength of the 66Co-28Cre-6Mo alloy is provided and gross average of 750 MPa and elasticity of the same alloy is approximately 158 GPa. It was noted in the 66Co-28Cr-6Mo alloy commercial grain microstructure with a refined, from the hot forging process. Moreover, observed the presence of twinned, but one cannot say whether this defect is due to plastic deformation or heat treatment. The tensile yield strength of the 66%Co-28%Cr-6%Mo alloy trade was 975 MPa and modulus of elasticity is of approximately 203 GPa. The corrosion current density of the 66Co-28Cr-6Mo alloys and commercial produced are respectively 1,9.10-7 and 1,5.10-7 Acm-2. These values indicate a high corrosion resistence of both alloys in Ringer\'s solution. Samples of the commercial and produced 66Co-28Cr-6Mo alloys a curve above the cell viability index of citotoxicity (IC50%) = 50% the alloys are considered non-toxic.

Caracterização microestrutural e mecânica de juntas soldadas a laser em um aço ARBL / Microstructural and mechanical characterization of laser welded joints on a HSLA steel

Henrique Varella Ribeiro 14 October 2016 (has links)
High-strength low-alloy steels (HSLA) are widely used in the automotive and oil industries due to their good mechanical properties and good weldability. The selection of the welding process used to manufacture components depends on several factors, including the quality of the weld bead and the production capacity, both obtained when using laser welding, a process, which is being increasingly used in the industries. The weld beads properties are affected by the welding process and by its parameters, and the knowledge of the weld bead mechanical performance is essential to ensure the reliability of the welded joint. The weld beads mechanical characterization is complex due to various factors that may affect it, such as metallurgical changes, different mechanical properties in the regions of the weld bead, presence of discontinuities, residual stress and complex state of tension due to the geometry of the joint. The present work obtained the joining of HSLA steel sheets by laser process in two different conditions, with high heat input and low heat input. The use of different heat inputs produced weld beads with different microstructures; therefore, the welded joints were evaluated according to their mechanical behavior, relating it with the microstructural generated. For the microstructure evaluation, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used, and for the mechanical characterization hardness determination, tensile test, fracture toughness test (evaluated by CTOD) and fatigue crack propagation were performed. Due to the metallurgical changes caused by the different heat inputs, a different mechanical behavior was observed between the weld beads as a function of the microstructure obtained.

Caractérisation mécanique de la paroi artérielle pathologique : approches expérimentales et numériques / Mechanical characterization of pathological arterial wall : experimental and numerical approaches

Marais, Louise 15 December 2016 (has links)
Vascular pathologies are generally accompanied by a remodeling of the arterial wall that may lead to modifications of its stiffness and mechanical behavior. The goal of this thesis is to propose methods of mechanical characterization allowing to detect the changes in arterial mechanical properties in the case of two pathologies: abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and arterial hypertension (HTA). The first study consisted in evaluating in vitro the arterial functional modifications in the case of an AAA obtained by the rat xenograft model which reproduces several biological features of the human pathology and is used to develop cell therapies. First, the assessment of regional variations in mechanical properties of aneurysmal tissue was conducted by carrying out traction tests on rings from AAAs. Then, extension-inflation tests were conducted on the vascular structure for loading conditions replicating those observed in vivo. In each case, an inverse method associated with a numerical finite element model was developed to identify the material parameters of vascular tissue. In the second study, arterial stiffness was measured in vivo for a population of hypertensive patients and healthy subjects using two non-invasive methods which were developed and optimized: ultrafast imaging of the pulse wave and shear wave elastography of the arterial wall. These two methods are based on an ultrafast ultrasound scanner. Thus the local pulse wave velocity on a segment of the carotid artery was assessed, as well as the propagation speed of shear waves created in the arterial wall at several moments during the cardiac cycle. Both in vitro and in vivo approaches enabled to evaluate some changes in mechanical properties of the arterial wall in pathological cases. Although all the biological mechanisms of AAA and HTA are complex, this work provides a contribution to a better understanding of vascular pathologies and can thereby assist in the choice or development of adapted treatments, from both a pharmacological point of view, and within the context of new cell therapies.

Study of damage during the hot-cutting of molded and forged austempered ductile iron automotive connecting rods.

Martinez, Thomas 19 December 2016 (has links)
This work was initiated by the technological problematic of hot trimming of nodular cast iron connecting rods. These connecting rods are obtained by an innovative hybrid process that combines forging and metal mold casting. This process requires the trimming to be conducted at high temperatures in the is the austenitic phase of the cast iron. Hot trimming of cast iron brings up major defects on the cut surfaces which are detrimental to the continuing process. To address this problem, a study is conducted on the characterization of the mechanical behavior of nodular cast iron in the process temperature conditions. A particular attention is paid to the influence of the nodular microstructure on the failure mechanisms. To develop simulation tools for nodular cast iron hot trimming, the parameters of Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman model are identified by inverse method for our material. Finally, a design of experiment is deployed using an instrumented demonstrator to obtain the optimum parameters configuration for a maximized cut surface quality. This latest study highlights the presence of a transition from ductile to brittle mode of failure leading to the hot trimming defects.

Étude de l'influence de la vitesse de déformation sur la réponse à l'indentation des matériaux polymères / Study of the strain rate effect of polymeric material using indentation test

Rabemananjara, Liva 26 November 2015 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to study the strain rate effects through materials response from indentation test. Polymeric solid material, especially Polycarbonate (PC), Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Polyamide Nylon 6.6 -30% glass fiber reinforced (PA 6.6-30% GFR), were selected as study materials due to their high strain rate sensitivity even at room temperature. The first two parts of this work were focused on the study of the thermomechanical behavior of polymer materials. Bibliographical studies of thermoplastic polymer materials, amorphous and semi-crystalline, was established in order to understand their microstructure and deformation mechanism. Moreover, compression tests were performed on study materials with several crosshead speeds values then the results was exploited analytically. The last three parts were focused on mechanical characterization using Instrumented Indentation Test (IIT). Firstly, numerical simulation of a conical indentation test ( =70.3°) with a constant rate displacement ( = 1 µm/s) was established using the identified G’sell behavior parameters and the power-law parameters from compression test. Parameter identification using Inverse Analysis from numerical material shows the non-uniqueness of G’sell parameters which gives the same indentation curve. Thus, theoretical study of conical indentation test was established considering power-law model. A new concept of the representative strain and the representative strain rate, based on solution domain which associate the set of parameters leading to the same indentation curves, was proposed. Very satisfactory results was obtained when identification process using this average representative strain rate is applied to a numerical material define by a power-law model. However, this method could not show its efficiency because the mechanical behavior of the real material is not correctly modeling with a power-law at a wide range of strain and strain rate. Finally, the new concept of the representative strain and the representative strain rate proposed on this work contributes to a new investigation tools to exploit the results form IIT and provide a very interesting perspectives.

Caractérisation mécanique des matériaux élastiques à l'échelle locale par microscopie à pointe vibrante : Approche multimodale et mesure de champs / Mechanical characterization of elastic materials at local scale using vibrating tip acoustic microscopy : Multimodal approach and full-field measurement

Travaillot, Thomas 14 May 2014 (has links)
This work proposes an improvement of the Scanning Microdeformation Microscope (SMM), a scanningprobe microscope, for the mechanical elastic characterization of materials at local scale. It demonstratesthat using n > 2 SMM resonance frequencies allows to decouple Young’s modulus andPoisson’s ratio values for an isotropic material. The mechanical description of the resonator has been enriched in order to allow for an accuratemodeling over a wide frequency range. Procedures have been developed to identify the modellingparameters and the elastic constants of the materials from n > 2 resonant frequencies. Finally, theseprocedures have been applied to the characterization of various materials at local scale in order tovalidate the method and to present possibilities and limits. To improve robustness and move towards the characterization of anisotropic materials, a polarizedlightimaging interferometer was developed to measure the rotation field of reflecting surfaces in aparticular direction. The sensitivity to the rotation originates from a homemade birefringent prism withuniaxial gradient of refractive index. This system is able to measure a localized rotation field as it isinduced in the vicinity of the tip of the SMM. Its interest is also demonstrated in cases in which scaleeffects make the rotation measurement preferable to the out-of-plane displacement measurement.

Comportement mécanique et durabilité de structures en béton renforcées par des armatures composites internes / Mechanical behaviour and durability of concrete structures reinforced by internal composite rebars

Rolland, Arnaud 27 March 2015 (has links)
To prevent such degradations on new infrastructures, the use of corrosion-free reinforcements, such as Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) bars based on glass, carbon or aramid fibers, is gaining interest. Specific guidelines are already available in several countries (USA, Canada or Japan for instance), that define the design principles and good practices for this type of internal rebars; beside, many FRP RC structures have been built and are in service in these countries. Although the development of these new reinforcing bars is quite promising, infrastructures owners are still reluctant for their wide-scale use, especially in France. There are still major concerns regarding the long term behavior of FRP RC structures, and more particularly, the durability of glass fibers reinforced polymers (GFRP) when subjected to an alkaline environment, and the ageing behavior of the GFRP/concrete bonding as well. In this context, the present study aims at developing for the first time in France, a set of methodologies that allows : to characterize the main physical/mechanical properties of different types of FRP bars from the marketto assess the durability of GFRP bars (the most common type of bar) and their interface with concrete through relevant accelerated ageing procedures. The first part of this study was thus devoted to the physical/mechanical characterization of a selection of commercially available FRP rebars, based on glass, carbon or aramid fibers, and to the mechanical behavior of corresponding FRP/concrete interfaces. Beside the microstructural characterization of the various FRP materials by microscopy and thermal analysis techniques, tensile and short beam tests were developed in order to determine the tensile properties (Young's modulus and strength) and the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of the bars. Specific pull-out tests then made it possible to evaluate the influence of several parameters (type of fibers, diameter and surface geometry of the bars) on the mechanism of load transfer at the bar/concrete interface. A main originality of the proposed approach relied on the instrumentation of several test bodies by optical fiber strain sensors, which were installed along the bar/concrete interface. Such a distributed measurement system provided local information in the form of tensile strain profiles of the bars along the interface, and made it possible to determine the effective transfer length of the various types of FRP bars. As a complement to the previous experimental study, an analytical and numerical modeling work was initiated to simulate the pull-out tests and investigate more closely the interfacial mechanisms involved in the FRP bar/concrete bond behavior. In this line, an improved interface model was first proposed, which was then implemented in a finite element model (cohesive zone model formulated in the context of damage mechanics). Finally, an accelerated ageing protocol was developed and applied to the GFRP bars, either alone or embedded in a concrete medium. The retention properties of both bars and interfaces were determined after various periods of exposure (up to 240 days). Except a drop of tensile properties observed for GFRP bars that were directly immersed in an alkaline solution, which is considered as a very severe environment compared to actual service conditions, no significant loss of interfacial properties was detected on aged specimens compared to the initial state

Estudo do comportamento mecânico de cilindros de compósito epóxi/fibra de basalto em ensaios hidrostáticos / Study of mechanical behavior of epoxy/basalt fiber composite cylinders under hydrostatic tests

Lapena, Mauro Henrique 26 January 2017 (has links)
