The Evolution of the Library Media Center: A Study of the Past, Current, and Projected Future Library Services Available in Johnson City, TennesseeHawley, Johnnie Sue 01 May 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this qualitative study was to indicate changes in library services available to the citizens of Johnson City, Tennessee. The study covered library services available in educational and public settings for patrons from preschool to adult ages. Librarians in this study all worked in either a public library located in Johnson City, TN or worked in the Johnson City School System as a media specialist in either an elementary, middle, or high school.
This qualitative study was conducted using interviews of librarians to gain their perceptions of the library and their roles within the libraries of Johnson City. Librarians were interviewed to determine their views in the past, present, and future of the library as an establishment. Documents from the various libraries were also analyzed to determine changes in library services.
Various themes emerged from the data analysis. Participants discussed their roles as librarians, the library as an institution, and collection development. Other themes that emerged were discussions of library materials that were now or would become archaic. Participants also made projections as to the future of the library itself and whether or not it would become obsolete.
The results of this study suggest that libraries will continue to evolve as technologies and community needs and expectations change. The appearance of the library will evolve to contain more learning spaces for active and group learning. The role of the librarian will evolve as the technology evolves. It will become more focused upon teaching patrons how to use learning tools and access information rather than simply managing and controlling the library’s assets.
The librarians’ role has the potential to become one of service leadership in the community and in the school setting. The impact of the library and the librarians’ role will directly affect students, teachers, and community members. Recommendations from this study may assist in transitioning the librarian/media specialist’s role to a great service leadership model that supports individual growth and community development.

Since its invention, photography has been accepted as a reliable tool for achitecture in terms of its power for creating objective documents of the built-form. The aim of this study, is to question the so-called objectivity and reliability of the photographic representations of the buildings by showing how architectural photography emerges also with an artistic and purely aesthetic character rather than being a mere tool of objective documentation. Taking this formal emphasis on architectural subject as a basis, a broader focus will be given to the photogenic character of the images used in architectural publications. Instead of reflecting real spatial experience, these idealized photographs are used in a given context to constitute a fiction that alters the viewer' / s understanding of the architectural subject.
Therefore, the main question is not whether architectural photography is an objective tool of documentation which is capable to represent architecture as it really is or it is a category of purely artistic activity / it is about how photography alters our vision about architecture and constructs new ideas for architectural discourse. By taking Tabanlioglu Architects' / Dogan Media Center building in Ankara as a key study, this thesis aims to focus this alteration and question the potentials of architectural photography.

Previous issue date: 4 / Nenhuma / Esta pesquisa objetiva, a partir da proposição de um olhar comunicacional, compreender o modo como a web se constitui como mídia tendo como base o exame das principais lógicas operativas de dois casos paradigmáticos de websites que apresentam vídeos em suas interfaces: Globo Media Center/Globo Vídeos, originado de um grupo de mídia fortemente estabelecido e de extrema relevância no Brasil, em grande parte devido à sua presença televisiva (as Organizações Globo) e YouTube, de caráter nativo à web em relação ao seu surgimento. Para o exame dessa questão, inicialmente desenvolvemos considerações sobre a relação do campo da Comunicação com os fenômenos da Internet, com ênfase na World Wide Web (web), localizando o surgimento de nossos observáveis e propondo três facetas para angulação de nosso olhar: banco de dados, mídia e ambiente de relacionamento. Após essas definições, partimos para a compreensão do papel do vídeo nas mídias e das trajetórias dos websites escolhidos e explicitação de suas lógicas operativas / The objective of this research is to understand how the web constitutes itself as a medium based on a proposition of a communicational approach and the exam of the most relevant proprieties of two paradigmactical cases of websites that present videos on their interfaces: Globo Media Center/Globo Vídeos, originated from a strong brazilian media group, whose importance is mostly related to their television presence (Organizações Globo) and YouTube, a website already originated in the web. Elementary School Climate Factors and Personality and Status Variables Associated with School Library Media Specialists Chosen by Classroom Teachers for Cooperation on Instructional ProblemsBell, Michael David, 1943- 12 1900 (has links)
This study investigated relationships between the extent to which elementary classroom teachers tend to choose school library media specialists for cooperation on instructional problems and several school climate and faculty related characteristics including the general academic effectiveness of the school, the overall cohesion and cooperativeness of the teaching faculty on instructional matters, and the propensity of the group and individual faculty to seek cooperation to solve instructional problems. The instructional choice status of the school library media specialist was also studied in relation to various individual personality factors, as measured by Cattell's 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire, as well as school media specialist status variables including degreed or non-degreed status, total years of experience as a school library media specialist, years of experience on campus as a school library media specialist, and total number of years of experience in the field of education. The instructional status of the school library media specialist was also examined in relationship to the size of the school served.
The study included 1,079 elementary classroom teachers and thirty-nine school library media specialists from thirty-nine Texas elementary schools similar in important wealth, size, and student demographic characteristics. Twenty of the schools ranked in the bottom 25% of all schools in the state as to how well their students performed on the 1988 Texas Educational Assessment of Minimum Skills (TEAMS) test. Nineteen schools ranked among the top 25%of all schools in the state in academic effectiveness.
As compared to the low academic schools, the high academic schools were found to be significantly more instructionally cohesive, and classroom teachers in those schools were significantly more disposed to choose the school library media specialist to cooperate with them on instructional problems. No significant relationships were discovered between the instructional choice status of the school media specialist and his or her measured personality characteristics.

The study tried to clear the digital home’s situation either from manufacturers’ or consumers’ opinions.
Digital content providers, value-added service providers, ISP, and 3C manufacturers are seen as core roles in the development of digital home industry. However, who is the leader is not yet clear. In addition, the study showed that the popularization of FTTH, digital equipments with high integration, colorful digital contents, and all kinds of related digital applications should be designed from consumers’ concern are the key success factors in the digital home industry.
Under the development trend of digital home industry, besides referencing related country strategies of America, Japan, and Korea, Taiwan government should take advantage of company’s superiorities well to help high-tech electronics companies find out their ways in the future. Furthermore, manufacturers in Taiwan should actively accumulate across-industry integrated experiences, and focus market on the Chinese people to develop all kinds of digital contents and service.

台北巿高中圖書館轉型為「教學資源中心」之研究 / A Study on Taipei Senior High Schools Library Transformation into the Instructional Resources Center黃瑞秋, Richel Huang Unknown Date (has links)
本研究旨在探討台北巿高中圖書館的組織編制、困境,並了解圖書館負責人對轉型為「教學資源中心」的看法,以期提出國內學校圖書館轉型為「教學資源中心」的建議方案及事項。
為達研究目的,首先蒐集國內外文獻,分析學校圖書館與「教學資源中心」的相關資料;其次藉由個案研究國內具有正式「教學資源中心」組織的明道高中,以了解其組織結構及經營模式;最後,全面性調查台北巿公私立45所高中圖書館的組織與困境、視聽資源及電腦主管單位的組織編制、以及台北巿高中圖書館負責人對轉型為「教學資源中心」的看法。
研究結果發現,台北巿高中圖書館有十大困境:1.私立學校圖書館組織比公立學校圖書館來得不健全。2.公私立高中圖書館多仍未能分組辦事。3.圖書館負責人乃由教師或幹事兼任,多須兼任課堂教學工作。4.圖書館專業人員不足。5.工作人員數量太少及職位太低。6.設置工讀生的學校未達半數,且工讀生人數少。7.圖書館委員會對圖書館的助益有限。8.圖書館所提供的視聽資源的種類不夠多,未能具備提供教學媒體製作的服務。9.圖書館雖多已自動化,但採購、期刊、參考諮詢三方面卻多數尚未自動化。10.圖書館半數以上沒有光碟資料庫,且只能在圖書館或館內使用光碟資料庫。
本研究提出高中圖書館轉型為「教學資源中心」的建議方案為:以圖書館為主導,整合校內包含所有軟體的視聽及電腦資源於同一個「圖書館教學資源中心」單位之中,設置圖書館教學資源中心主任,編列正式的圖書館專業人員、媒體專業人員、電腦資訊人員,其下的分組則至少包括基本的圖書館、視聽教育、電腦資訊三方面相關的組別。最後,提出的五大層面的建議事項:(一)制度層面:1.修改相關法令,提昇圖書館的地位及健全組織;2.轉型的名稱以「圖書館教學資源中心」為佳。(二)功能層面:1.落實傳統圖書館的功能;2.發揮「教學資源中心」的功能。(三)人員層面:1.增加圖書館人員編制及提昇專業素質;2.增列圖書館的媒體人員、資訊人員;3.結合與善用校內教師與學生的人力。(四)資源層面:1.充實圖書館館藏、媒體、資訊等設備;2.加強資訊軟硬環境。(五)教育層面:1.推廣圖書館利用教育,加強師生對圖書館的認識與使用;2.適應國家整體高中教育政策,配合多元入學方案。

Role školních knihoven v procesu rozvoje mediální gramotnosti v České republice / Role of school libraries in development of media literacy in the Czech RepublicTopinková, Hana January 2012 (has links)
This diploma thesis examines the possibilities of involving school librarians and information specialists in the process of growth in media literacy at Czech schools. The theoretical part of the thesis briefly introduces the general issues of media education and media literacy in our country and abroad, while the practical part of the thesis based on its own research, focuses on a particular target group - Prague secondary schools ("gymnázium"). Using a questionnaire and five case studies conducted at selected secondary schools in Prague, it conducts a survey of the current situation of implementation of media education in the Czech Republic. The end of the thesis deals with some ideas of how to involve graduates of the Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship in teaching media education according to the American model of a "teacher librarian".
