Fruta do Lácio: a literatura na sala de aula / Fruta do Lácio: literature at schoolSalgado, Luciana 04 December 1998 (has links)
Given literatures ever growing disrepute, especially among high school students, when this subject becomes official, many studies have focused the reading conditions, the teachers role, the influence of the entrance exams upon schools, the production and distribution of books and libraries, as well as other aspects that relate to this subject-matter. By considering these aspects as starting points, this study examines how and which of these variables articulate within teachers and students imaginaries. Our main hypothesis is that literature is apart from the classroom because the literary text is also apart from it. Or, being more specific, we understand that the literary or aesthetic experience hasnt occurred because its living matter, the text, hasnt called it forth. What has been made of this vibrating resource? We find it existing, alive in peoples minds and in the books, despite the appearance of contempt. For this reason, we decided to investigate the wishes and frustrations of those people involved in a literature teaching process. We have created a specific tool for the collection of data, based on the theoretical premises that have outlined a concept with, relating it to another concept of the classroom. Having both aroused from the theoretical trends that have formed the presently working teachers, these two concepts oriented the conception of the tools that were used in the field research. This research was organized in three different stages, at schools with different approaches all of them located in São Paulo. An analysis of the recurrences and a few controversies which can be observed in the results, follows the discussion of the tools.

"Walking the line between structure and freedom" : a case study of teachers' responses to curriculum change using complexity theoryHetherington, Lindsay Ellen Joan January 2012 (has links)
This thesis uses complexity theory to explore education in the context of a changing curriculum called ‘Opening Minds’. This new curriculum was introduced in the case study school in response to a wider curriculum change which emphasised ‘learning to learn’ and the development of ‘skills for the 21st Century’. In this study, a ‘complexity thinking’ theoretical framework was adopted, drawing especially on the work of Osberg and Biesta (Osberg et al., 2008, Osberg and Biesta, 2007, Biesta and Osberg, 2007) and Davis and Sumara (2006; 2007), paying particular attention to concepts of emergence and complexity reduction. Complexity theory, through the ‘logic of emergence’ offers a challenge to mechanistic approaches to understanding the world which, despite the work of postmodern and poststructural scholars in education, remains dominant in educational practice. The Opening Minds curriculum that is the focus of this case study demonstrated the potential to challenge this mechanistic approach, as the teachers expressed a desire to work in different, flexible and creative ways: this thesis therefore explores complexity theory’s challenge to a mechanistic approach in this particular case. It also addresses the relationship between Opening Minds and science education using complexity thinking. To facilitate exploration and analysis of the case, concepts of temporal and relational emergence and complexity reduction to develop a ‘complexity thinking’ understanding of concepts of agency/structure, power, identity and reflexivity. This entailed reconceptualisation of these ideas in a temporal-relational sense that explicitly incorporates a sensitivity to emergence. Specifically, an additional dimension to Emirbayer and Mische’s (1998) construction of multidimensional agency was added: that of creative agency. The research was conducted as a case study in which a ‘bricolage’ approach to data collection and analysis was used as part of an explicitly ‘complex’ methodology, addressing questions of the challenge of complexity reduction and ethics in research drawing on complexity theory. The findings indicated a challenge for teachers in negotiating tensions as they attempted to adopt approaches that could be considered ‘emergent’ alongside other ‘mechanistic’ practices. These tensions were explored in detail in relation to the concept of ‘reflection’, and in the interaction between science and Opening Minds. Bringing together the empirical and theoretical work in this study, it is suggested that mechanistic and emergent aspects may helpfully be viewed as a ‘vital simultaneity’ within the educational relationship (Davis, 2008) with the interaction between them facilitated by creative agency within a ‘pedagogy of interruption’ (Biesta, 2006). It was further argued that reflection could be used in responsive and flexible ways to support both learning and assessment as a crucial aspect of a pedagogy of interruption. Such a ‘contingently responsive and creative pedagogy’ may support the interaction between science and Opening Minds productively. It is suggested that complex approach to a pedagogy of interruption could support teachers in engaging with the creative and diverse elements of science or learning to learn curricula whilst maintaining the mechanistic aspects of teaching that support students in learning key concepts and skills.

Electronic networks and information services in South Korean universitiesOh, Kyung-Mook January 1997 (has links)
Electronic networking is becoming a familiar tool in higher education and research. Because the cost of telecommunications is decreasing, while the power of electronic networks and related computing resources is increasing, the resources and systems of electronic networks can now be used more easily. Access to the new global system of electronic networking has a great potential for the development of information services in South Korea. The principal aim of the research presented here is to determine what campus-wide and nation-wide information system will enable academic and research institutions in South Korea to share their information resources in an effective and efficient way via high-speed networks. The situation in South Korea has been modelled using Checkland's soft systems methodology. Data have been collected via both questionnaires and interviews, using a stratified sample of six South Korean universities as the main source. The factors at work have been examined, and the implications for the university system and for electronic networking in South Korea are considered.

International study visits and the promotion of intercultural capabilities : an exploratory studyHuggins, Valerie January 2015 (has links)
Internationalisation is high on the agenda of Higher Education in the UK, with the promotion of the students’ intercultural capabilities seen as key for their future careers and lives as global citizens. Within this agenda international study visits are considered beneficial for student teachers, giving those with limited exposure to cultural diversity an opportunity to learn first-hand about education in other countries. Taking a postmodern approach and using Facet Methodology, the research investigated the extent to which the pattern of study visits in a School of Education in a University in the South West of England was conducive to promoting the intercultural capabilities of the participants. Drawing on perspectives from Bourdieu and postcolonial theory, analysis of the University policies on Internationalisation and Teaching and Learning revealed a variety of positions towards international study visits and interviews with Associate Deans of a Faculty explored how far these were being manifested for the different professional disciplines of Education, Health and Social Care. The perspectives, views and attitudes of the student and tutor participants on a range of study visits were then captured through focus groups, interviews and writing frames. The study found that neither the students nor the tutors showed an awareness of the nature and importance of intercultural capabilities and therefore the approaches to study visits were patchy in developing them. It suggests that though such visits can be beneficial in promoting such capabilities in the participants, they will only do so consistently if there is in place a transformational pedagogy, informed by postcolonial theory, and implemented by knowledgeable tutors. This approach would include a planned programme of pre-trip, in-trip and post-trip activities encouraging reflection upon experiences, whether positive or disturbing, based upon an explicit contract with students to engage in intercultural learning as a central aspect of the visit.

Previous issue date: 2010-11-19 / The present research, with the title Critical reading of the incorporated in methodology of education in the Curriculum Purpose of Portuguese Language of the State of São Paulo, (5th series, 2008/2009) , it has as objective to identify the theoretical and methodological conceptions of education of the reading and production of texts, in the teacher s book and the pupil s notebook learning activities contained in the Curriculum Purpose of Portuguese Language (SP, 5th series). Justifying the necessity of this study, we will detach the difficult task to make with that the pupils have a positive experience with the languages, in general way the theoretical option for accomplishment of this research turns on the semiotics studies of the languages, directed toward conceptual contributions of Mikhail Bakhtin (Russian semiotics), Charles Sanders Peirce (North American semiotics) and mainly on the theory of the Julia Kristeva s intertextuality. The study it will have to involve, methodologically, the bibliographical research (theoretical studies of scientific basement on the subject of the research) and qualitative research (analysis of cited documents). The method will be of content analysis, therefore it will make possible a deepening in the manifest content from the studied theoretical reference. One expects, with the present study, the contribution for the improvement of the quality of the education of Portuguese Language in the schools of the state net.
