Visuella grepp för filmduken : En studie i filmdesign – filmfotografen Hoyte van Hoytemas anslag i tre filmer

Jonsson, Klara January 2015 (has links)
Visual techniques such as mise-en-scène, cinematography and film editing may be used in order to strengthen a story and create the right atmosphere in which the story is told. This study examines film design, with the aim to raise the knowledge and understanding of how motion pictures are designed in order to achieve a strengthened story and the right atmosphere. The visual techniques are studied with three methods; semiotics, compositional interpretation and my own interpretation. One of the most important roles for a cinematographer is deciding how a film will be presented visually, that is why this study analyses and interprets three films by the cinematographer Hoye van Hoytema with this following question – In which ways has the cinematographer worked with the visual techniques in the opening of the three chosen films? The study also examines how you can work with the visual techniques in one’s own interpretation. Therefore the study includes four short films I have produced. The result of the analyses of the films is summarised and presented in a table and my interpretation was displayed during an exhibition on the 15th January 2016 at Umeå University. The visual techniques show both similarities and differences in how they have been used. They are used in combination to enable creation of the atmosphere in the story in all of the chosen films. The importance of how to relate separate techniques to the story as a whole in order to draw conclusions on what the techniques might imply, is shown.

Jonsson, Martin January 2010 (has links)

Mettre en scène la musique médiévale : l'exemple de Rose tres bele de Diabolus in Musica / Staging medieval music : Rose tres bele, by Diabolus in Musica, a case study

Meegens, Rachel 25 June 2013 (has links)
Medieval Music, currently performed by specialist musicians, undergoes a process of decontexutalization and recontextualization. This PHD attempts to approach such problematics through analysis. Rose tres bele is a newly devised pluridisciplinary show by the ensemble Diabolus in Musica that presents one aspect of the Medieval repertoire, the female voice in langue d’oil Medieval lyric. Through its case study, this thesis tries to understand the ways in which the specific musical and poetic elements of this genre induce a specific organization of the different performance elements, particularly in terms of physicality and of the configuration the physical bodies take in space. The first chapter introduces the medieval material: poems, music, images used in performance. The second chapter gives the show’s structure, underpinned by the sung poems, whose texts establish a real narrative line for the performance. The analysis of these poems allows one to single out characteristic poetic elements that shed some insight into the performance. The performance is based on the conventions of courtly poetry, as well as on the specific notions of characterization this poetry expresses. This literary analysis leads to an analysis, in the third chapter, of the show itself, particularly as far as the text-image relationship is concerned. The fourth chapter considers the aesthetic issues raised by this devised show’s pluridisciplinarity. The chapter goes back, notably, to the question of physicality and its relationship to writing. The fifth chapter retraces the origins of Rose tres bele’s Medieval aesthetic, in an overview that goes from 13th. to 21rst century and includes 19th. century.

Rouleau, Sophie 08 1900 (has links) (PDF)

O cinema de fluxo e a mise en scène / Cinema of flux and mise-en-scène.

Oliveira Junior, Luiz Carlos Gonçalves de 28 September 2010 (has links)
My dissertation is divided in two parts. The first one investigates the concept of mise-enscène as applied to film practice, taking as reference its theatrical origins and some of its extensions to film theory and criticism. My approach privileges the essentialist definitions presented by a group of French critics, focusing on two reviews, Cahiers du Cinéma and Présence du Cinéma, covering their issues published in the 1950s and 1960s. The second part, concentrated on film analysis, discusses some aesthetic features of contemporary cinema such as the notion of cinema of flux, which refers to a set of films located at a blind spot when we look at cinema styles from the standpoint of the classical definition of mise-en-scène discussed in Part I. The intruder (Claire Denis, 2004), Shade (Philippe Grandrieux, 1998), The voyage of the red balloon (Hou Hsiao-hsien, 2007) and Gerry (Gus Van Sant, 2002) are among the films.

L’atelier du metteur en scène shakespearien et la fabrication du spectacle en Europe occidentale depuis 1945 / The Shakespearean director’s workshop and the making of the production in Western Europe from 1945

Berger, Laurent 07 December 2011 (has links)
This works seeks to identify and describe the key processes, tools and concepts of the theatrical mise en scène of Shakespeare from the study of about 200 different productions in France, England, Germany, Italy and Spain after 1945.The first movement presents the historical context of the staging of Shakespeare and the artistic filiations and influences that exist in it, to see how they condition the individual creativity. The second movement describes different aspects of the notion of Shakespearean material to show his power and relevance in theatrical practice, and assumes there is a strong analogy between the characteristics of this material and those of the mise en scène in general . The third movement is interested in the relationship between interpretation of the play and conception of the production, and in the various phenomena of projection that transform the imaginary dimension of the play in its stage realization. The fourth movement enters the dynamics of rehearsal and describe them using three concepts, rehearsal, Probe, and répétition, which work together but each with its own regime. The wide range of technical and artistic points of view exposed show the multiple potential of possible approaches to each of the process of the mise en scène, and finally allows to outline a comprehensive theory of the staging unifying all these processes in a dynamic that necessarily develops in several levels simultaneously connected, just as in the Shakespearean material.
