Cruz, Clauber Ribeiro. January 2013 (has links)
This research intents to establish the relation between the novel Portagem, written by the Mozambique writer Orlando Mendes, and Mozambique, exposing the clandestine journey of its main character, the mulatto João Xilim. Through these topics, this study will show an analysis of its esthetics and historical elements connected with the destiny of a mulatto without a land, living in a place surrounded by a prejudiced society and the Portugal government during the colonial era. Through an allegoric narrative, in which nation and narration meet themselves, Orlando Mendes builds a novel that introduces a vision of Mozambique during the 1950's. Thus, it will be possible to observe the strong bond between the text and context when the following results developed in this paper are brought to the considerations, such as: the building of literary Mozambique set, the colonialism, the memory, the ancestry, the miscegenation, the configuration of the Portuguese language, the literary tradition and the big journey of a clandestine mulatto acting like the central guide of all its passage/portagem. Therefore, the mulatto, through the visibility given by the novel, becomes a symbol of a new time, because in order to pursuit for his self-knowledge, he recognizes the defeat of his own destiny when he gives in in front of an agonic journey, nevertheless, it is still hopeful / Mestre

A poética de Noémia de Sousa: História e identidade em Moçambique colonial / The poetics of Noémia de Sousa: History and identity in colonial Mozambique

Bonini, Roseleine Vitor 01 October 2018 (has links)
This dissertation aims to analyze the poems of the Mozambican writer Noémia de Sousa, gathered in the work Black Blood (2016). From theoretical discussions about the concept of identity, we seek to understand how those are constructed in the author\'s aesthetic discourse and which identity paths can be glimpsed in her poetics through an analytical and interpretative critique. We sought to observe how the personal experience of woman and mestiza within a colonial society was decisive in the genesis of the writer\'s engaged poetry. To do so, we draw a brief historical overview on the singularities of Portuguese colonialism in the territory of Mozambique.

Rui Knopfli e Manuel Alegre: de exílios e insílios, a poesia / Rui Knopfli and Manuel Alegre: from exiles and inner exiles, the Poetry

Lima, Kelly Mendes 26 April 2017 (has links)
The thesis presents a comparative study between the poetic work of the Mozambican Rui Knopfli (1932-1997) and that one of the Portuguese Manuel Alegre (1936-) from the concept of \"self writing\" (M. Foucault, 1983). It accompanies and reflects on the literary course of both authors, establishing relations with their experiences of public knowledge and their conceptions regarding literature, politics and homeland. In short, their poetic subjects, just like those historical subjects, are decentered in relation to any \"official\" discourse, whether the narrowest of the Academies and the Literary Criticism, or the broadest of the Portuguese Estado Novo and even that one of political groups opposed to it, including, in the case of the African writer, the one coming from the Frente de Libertação de Moçambique (Frelimo). They are therefore \"displaced\" voices, from an I in inner exile. However, this sense is not restricted to the figurative: both in their objective reality, even in alternated moments, were marked by the exit, traumatic and for political reasons, from their original place, from their space, from their homeland; they did indeed know the physical exile and, likewise, transformed this experience into poetic matter. Throughout their journeys, always under the sign of displaced or decentralized, the poetry of both is equally active and full of paths and misfortunes quite close and if History and the sensitive world are gaining airs of disillusionment for those men, the poetic discourse shows that it can be beyond the means to denounce aesthetically the Portuguese dictatorship and colonization and the pain and suffering of those involved in the colonial / independence wars. Poetry is also the space, process and result for and of a reflection on the part of the being, constituting this discursivization like a \"self writing\". In addition, Poetry, which finally becomes the possible homeland, goes beyond the political-geographical limits of the territory where they are or would like to be and even and above all the limits of death, the ultimate exile of life, always on the look-out and that can be felt more and more as time goes by.

Garcia, Neiva Kampff January 2016 (has links)
With the reading of the work of Mia Couto – except the dramaturgy and the screenplays – we stablished multiple looks on his writings, considering thematic perspectives, intertextualities, confrontation of current problems. We also observed the resources connected to the imaginary, to dialogues between the History and the Fiction, following the creative constitution of the beings that inhabit his poetic and prose texts. We faced the presence of water as a thread of narratives, as a symbol and/or metaphor of multiple meanings, and also, and as the complement of other themes. This way, we show how the water constitutes one of the matrixes of Mia Couto’s writing and we do it identifying the elements that stablish an interconnection of this matrix in the poetry, in the short story and in the novels of the author. This interconnection approaches to two repeated movements in the texts of Mia Couto: the mosaic and the crossing. With the water, we entered in the symbols, in the myths and in the questionings of spaces and wanderings, and we identified the author’s strategies in the literary representation of this thematic universe. In order to implement our proposal, we used the theoretical support from the following authors: Gaston Bachelard, Homi Bhabha, Mikhail Bakhtin, Gilles Deleuze, Mircea Eliade, Félix Guattari, Octavio Paz, and others, besides scholars from the African literature.
