O reaproveitamento de notícias no jornalismo impresso contemporâneo : o caso do Caderno Diplô, do Le Monde Diplomatique Brasil /

Pinto, Fernanda Iarossi. January 2010 (has links)
The present work has as main objective indicate some characteristics that define the resulting journalism from the reuse of still published news is printed journalism. Through the discourse qualitative analysis, thematic depiction and the argumentative web of the three issues of Cadernos Diplô, derivative publications from monthly newspaper Le Monde Diplomatique, and the trajectory of constructivist paradigms (structuralist and interacionist theories), gatekeeper and newsmaking that mark the journalism theories, it was possible to conclude that the reuse of news is an editorial practice and not a particular category within journalism, and it can contribute to ease the "myopia" that the interpretative community, meaning, the journalists suffer, and it is presented as an alternative facing the journalistic necessity which characterize the focused journalist by the present. Beyond being an alternative also to the present criterion or the factually the mold the commercial/industrial journalism (that consider the news as goods to be commercialized), work as an optimization process in the information management and to preserve memories and analyses which are important human being history / Mestre

Things left unsaid: Source disclosure, the Video News Release and perceptions of credibility

Blomberg, Matthew January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Journalism and Mass Communications / Louise Benjamin / The video news release (VNR) has been a source of controversy since its first inclusion into newscasts in the early 1980s. This third-party (not produced by a news station) public relations and marketing-friendly content, when included alongside normally produced news stories, can make it difficult for the public to discern what is news and what is not. Problems specifically arise when news operations fail to disclose to their audience the source or provider of VNR content, and prevent news consumers from evaluating the legitimacy or intent of a VNR. A 4 (source disclosure cue: audio, video, combination of the two, and none) x 2 (source agent type: biased or neutral) experiment was implemented within this study to better understand audience evaluations, post exposure to a source disclosure cue, of the credibility of a news operation that implements VNRs within their broadcast. Disclosure cues were also evaluated for their effectiveness in raising awareness to the persuasive aspects of a VNR, and the impact of differing source agent types on participants' credibility assessment of a news operation. Results demonstrated 75% of participants (n=238) failed to correctly identify the source of the VNR when a disclosure cue was given. However, the audio and video combination condition was found to instigate the most awareness to the use of VNR. Overall, disclosure of a VNR's source could not be linked to changes in participants' evaluation of a news operation's credibility, with results demonstrating uniformly average means throughout. In addition, source disclosure could not be associated to a change in participants' awareness to the persuasive context of the VNR, with similar means exhibited. Because of the lack of an overall effect concerning credibility or knowledge of persuasive content within the study, greater media transparency is needed as are more media literacy opportunities for the public to best understand and navigate today’s complicated broadcast media reality.

Effekten av falska nyheter på individnivå : En explorativ mixed method-studie om falska nyheters påverkan / The effect of false news on an individual level : An exploratory mixed method study on the impact of false news

Andersson, Simon, Holmgren Hall, Catharina January 2017 (has links)
Today we face a growing problem where false information is spread as common news out to the public. This could result in enormous consequences in many ways for people, politics and in the society as a whole. This exploratory study addresses false news and how the dissemination of these affects people and their confidence in the general news-media. The essay is a mixed method study based on a quantitative survey and eight qualitative interviews. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether the spread of false news increases the distrust of the media in the general news republic. The study's selection group are people in the ages of 16–30, as these are the age groups that most using social media where the largest spread of false news occurs. The result shows that there is an overall high awareness-rate regarding the existence of false news. The study also shows that the spread of false news has contributed to an increased mistrust towards the general news-media by the public. However, both the quantitative and qualitative data presented in this paper points to the fact that the level of awareness regarding the spreading of false news is much higher than the level of mistrust in general news outputs.

The Impact of "Bad Media Attention" on Stock Price : An Exploratory Study regarding The Impact of "Bad Media Attention" on Stock Price on The OMX Stockholm 30 Stock Exchange

Eriksson, Sebastian, Glaes, Viktor January 2016 (has links)
Technology has evolved the last 20 years, making both the stock market and media operate in real time. The advancement of technology has increased trading activity and the number of investors who enter the stock market. Alongside, media has expanded itself into the internet and can, due to the advancement, provide information faster and in higher volumes through their channels. Being that, a limited number of follow-ups have been made regarding the impact of media on stock price and no studies have been made to investigate how stock price correlates with negative media. This generated the aim of this study to investigate and analyze the impact of “Bad Media Attention” on stock price. The thesis was conducted as an exploratory research study that collected secondary data from Avanza. Furthermore, the methodology in this study was structured and performed to best answer the research question (RQ1): Does “Bad Media Attention” have an impact on stock price?” The results showed that the majority of news defined as ”Bad Media Attention” had no statistically significant impact on stock price. Also, the study found no consistent statistically significant correlation between “Bad Media Attention” and stock price. However, the small number of significant variables tends to have a negative correlation between “Bad Media Attention” and stock price. Therefore, this research contributed to the stock market field in a number of ways. First, by showing a majority of news events, defined as “Bad Media Attention”, had no statistically significant impact on stock price for large cap companies on the OMX Stockholm 30 Stock Exchange. Second, the results and analysis may help to better grasp the impact of “Bad Media Attention”. Third, this study provided more insight in the research area and raised awareness of this particular phenomenon, and will for this reason be a valuable discovery for future research.

The canary in the coal mine: Beijing News and the crisis of Chinese journalism

Li, Ke 29 August 2014 (has links)
Based on three-month ethnographic fieldwork among investigative journalists in Beijing News, this dissertation is about the transformation of printing journalism in a time of crisis. This study explores what specifically constitutes the crisis of Chinese printing journalism in general and investigative journalism in particular, and how they respond to the crisis. Existing western debate of newspaper crisis predominantly revolves around the rapid technological and economic change. Rooted in the ‘liberal-pluralist’ political economy of communication, however, my dissertation suggests that we also need to take the political factors into consideration when discussing the crisis of traditional media in China-an authoritarian country without media freedom. I argue that the crisis of Chinese printing journalism is not only the shrink in circulation and advertisement revenue and the technological impinging on traditional way of producing and distributing news, as their western counterparts; but also the increasingly narrowing space for critical coverage that Chinese political and investigative journalists appreciate and expect. The three facts-political control, economic recession, and technological innovation-are interwoven together and profoundly shape the Chinese printing journalism. Under such situation, Chinese newsroom is under transformation. Taking an approach of sociology of news, my paper also examines how Beijing News and its investigative reporting team reshuffle the organizational structure to overcome the crisis. On the one hand, the reorganization is aimed at adapting to and adopting new technologies to gain a toehold in the new editorial and business model; on the other hand, it is a rearrangement of its strategy in overcoming the political constraints and carrying out critical reporting. Different from the opinion from Tech-Utopian or Tech-Determinism who suggests that technology will completely reshape the structure of newsroom and journalistic practice, I argue that organizational tradition and culture make the complete redefinition impossible. Based on the reform strategy what I called a combination of ‘convergence’ and ‘de-convergence’, I suggest that Beijing News successfully keeps a balance between ‘embracing the online world’ and ‘keeping its tradition of pursing for original and investigative journalism’. The well-established organizational routine should not be deemphasized in discussing the reconstruction of traditional newsroom at least for two reasons. Firstly, the professional routine overcomes the potential negative impact of new technology on quality journalism. Secondly, what strategies are adopted in the newspaper transformation is closely relevant to its structural and cultural feature. As a canary in the coal mine, Beijing News sets an example for many other printing newspaper around the country with difficulty in addressing the crisis, coming from whatever political, economic or technological aspects.

The Role of American Consultants in the Development of Television News Broadcasting in the United Kingdom in the 1990s

January 2018 (has links)
abstract: U.S. television is about earning profits, but European broadcasting has historically been governed as public service, indirectly or directly operated by the government. Substantial changes occurred in the 1990s. Privatization and the United Kingdom’s Independent Television franchise auction stimulated commercial developments throughout Europe. Even public service broadcasters lost their traditional characteristics, adopting routines making them almost indistinguishable from commercial competitors. Television remains the number one news source overall. Research shows news adheres to similar, recurring and predictable elements; an anchor team balances the broadcast and its various elements, following a formula of friendly personalities, visuals and sound bites. This study examined American news consultants’ role in the development of television news in the UK in the 1990s. American news consultants’ work abroad is important because they spread the U.S. model - the origin of today’s on-air news style – and changed television news on a global scale. Limited research has been conducted on the consultants’ European work and how they operated, largely because of proprietary material. This study was based on 2359 pages of archival material from Frank N. Magid Associates’ European archives. In addition, 24 interviews with Magid staff and UK journalists allowed for a comprehensive examination. Magid truly infiltrated UK television - from the headquarters of the BBC and ITN, to the regions. A major finding is the extent of Magid’s penetration with research services, storytelling and performance training. During the franchise auction, Magid worked with ITV clients in 11 of the 16 regions. This study examined how Magid played a role in the development of television news. It analyzed key concepts integrated into UK news and how those are similar or different from the U.S. The importance of good storytelling permeated the findings. Tell a story well – tailored to the culture, medium and viewers – and it will attract an audience. In turn, that attracts advertisers, making news profitable. Change theory guided an analysis of societal forces. Driving forces, such as privatization and technology, spurred on development of television news; restraining forces, such as fear of Americanization, slowed it down. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Journalism and Mass Communication 2018

Balarezo López, Gunther 03 1900 (has links)
COVID-19 is not only a contagious virus, it is also surrounded bay fake news which could lead individuals to experience anxiety, anguish, and even stress. Therefore, literature has been revised including of the most relevant points with the objective of describing aspects relating to the infodemic and false conspiracy theories that have been circulating through the media and social networks. during the year 2020.
