Assistive technology is a range of equipment, resources, services, methods, practices and strategies applied to minimize the difficulties disabled people are confronted with. Nursing has used technologies to assist clients in different health education and promotion contexts. The aim was to develop and assess an assistive technology with a focus on behavioral contraceptive methods for blind women. An Assistive Technology development and evaluation study was designed. Data were collected between March 2011 and April 2012. The research was accomplished at the Health Communication Laboratory of the Nursing Department at Universidade Federal do CearÃ, Brazil. The study subjects were experts in pedagogical aspects and blind women, who completed assessment instruments. The study involved three methodological phases: development of the manual, expert evaluation and evaluation by the blind women. The research was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee and approved under number 283/11. Ethical aspects were respected in compliance with Resolution 196/96. The Manual SaÃde Sexual e Reprodutiva â MÃtodos Anticoncepcionais Comportamentais includes text in Braille and in print, with high relief figures accompanied by description, using informal language. The experts suggested technological adjustments with a view to improving the structure, language and figures in the Manual. Two of the three experts in that phase were blind, a pertinent situation as that is the target public of the Manual. Out of 18 items in the Evaluation Instrument the experts responded, 13 were considered adequate, the respondents did not agree on two and agreed on the other three items. Changes were made in the technical terms and presentation of the Manual according to the expertsâ suggestions. In the third phase, evaluation of the Manual by the blind women, these women were invited to meet at a predetermined place to read the Manual individually and answer the Evaluation Instrument. The results were analyzed based on the Evaluation Instruments the women had answered. Out of 15 items, eight were considered adequate; disagreements were found with regard to seven. The evaluations were pertinent to make the Manual more accessible and complete. On the other hand, the Manual served to support health professionalsâ work during health education meetings and actions for family planning purposes. By overcoming difficulties, this study entailed considerable effects for the population, as it makes room for the development of other assistive technologies on other themes.

Fertility-Awareness Practices Among Women Seeking Pregnancy:

Pérez Capotosto, Melissa January 2021 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Corrine Y. Jurgens / Background: Infertility is a source of significant distress to women, their partners, and their families. If women are unable to identify the time in their cycle when conception is most likely (the fertile window) then they may be referred to fertility services unnecessarily, which incur costly, invasive, and risky interventions. Little is known about women’s experiences trying to conceive using fertility-awareness based methods. Objective: The purpose of this dissertation research is to examine fertility-awareness based method (FABMs) use among women seeking pregnancy, specifically as it relates to fertility knowledge, method frequency, predictors of use, and duration of pregnancy attempt. Methods: This manuscript-style dissertation will utilize multiple data sources and methods to address four major goals. First, an integrative review of peer-reviewed publications will synthesize the literature regarding fertility knowledge and fertility- awareness practices (Aim 1). Second, a secondary analysis of data from the CDC’s National Survey of Family Growth (2015-2017) will be used to identify factors that influence women’s decision to use FABMs (Aim 2). Third, an analysis of data from the Nurses’ Health Study 3 will be used to evaluate whether duration of current pregnancy attempt is associated with FABM(s) use (Aim 3). Lastly, a case study will be presented using the qualitative methodology of narrative interview to describe women’s experiences using FABMs to achieve pregnancy (Aim 4). Conclusions: Collectively, this work advances the science by providing researchers and clinicians with the knowledge to support women in their journey to natural, spontaneous conception. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2021. / Submitted to: Boston College. IMPACTS OF CONTRACEPTIVE METHOD ON BALANCE OF POWER AND SATISFACTION IN MARITAL RELATIONSHIPS

Mary K Shannon (9714161) 16 December 2020 (has links)
<div> <div> <div> <p>The following study used a liberal feminist lens to address a gap in the literature on contraceptive method use and romantic relationships by examining the association between contraceptive method use and both relationship satisfaction and balance of power. Specifically, it surveyed married women between the ages of 20-49 using either oral contraceptives (OCs) or natural family planning (NFP). Relationship satisfaction was measured using the Couple Satisfaction Index (CSI-4). Balance of power in the relationship was measured using the Relationship Balance Assessment (RBA). It was hypothesized that women using NFP would report higher relationship satisfaction and greater balance of power than women using OCs. Instead, results of the multiple regression analyses indicated that women using NFP experienced significantly lower rates of balance of power in their relationship. There was no significant difference in relationship satisfaction between groups. Additionally, control variables of religious importance and number of children were found to be associated with balance of power. Controls of age and religious importance were found to be associated with relationship satisfaction. Clinical implications, strengths and limitations, and future directions for research were discussed. </p> </div> </div> </div>

Du péché à l'ordre civil, les unions hors mariage au regard du droit (XVIe-XXe siècle) / From sin to the civil order, unions outside of marriage under the law (XVI-XX century)

Duvillet, Amandine 25 November 2011 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to understand the legal status of unmarried couples, over a period of time extending for nearly five centuries. The canon law of marriage relegated cohabitation to a permanent state of sin, and in the sixteenth century, the council of Trent prescribed severe penalties to punish cohabitation. The fathers of the council enacted rules governing the celebration of marriage. Secular authority then gradually arrogated jurisdiction in matrimonial matters by means of laws and jurisprudence. The line between marriage and cohabitation was now strictly drawn. Although the old law did not consider cohabitation as a crime, it castigated children born outside of wedlock by subjecting them to an inferior status. During the Revolution, the secularization of marriage did not call into question the traditional form of the marital union; however, legislators granted rights to recognized natural children. In 1804, the question of cohabitation was totally absent from the civil Code. Marriage represented the foundation of the family, and illegitimate children were once again the victims of the rule of lawful union. By the mid-nineteenth century, the rigor of the Code toward the natural family was mitigated by a current of progressive ideas. Then, in the early twentieth century, official recognition of cohabitation was brought about by a series of legally-binding legislative measures, and the path to legal pluralism in family matters found an opening.
