On the national scene, there was an intense process of rural exodus, caused due to processes such as agricultural mechanization and land speculation, which had an impact on Brazilian food diets. Food is very important to the health of individuals, guaranteeing their supply of nutrients essential for the optimal functioning of their bodies. Thus, this work aims to analyze and compare the power of a newly migrated population group to the city with a number of rural inhabitants who do not have any link with agroecological procedures or social movements. For this purpose, the study uses the analysis category of food security, because conceives it is thought that this has many aspects concerning the relationship between agriculture and diet and allows the investigation of aspects related to food and health of responders. The study site is the municipality of Nepomuceno, located in the middle South/Southwest region of Minas Gerais, which has its economy based on agriculture, mainly in coffee production. The research covers the municipal agriculture, especially the family agriculture, aiming to evaluate elements like the urban-industrial inputs used in agricultural production, forms of the land rent found in the field in Nepomuceno, among others. The land rent category will be used in this analysis because it enables the realization of relations and typically capitalist processes in the field. Working and leases arrangements present in the municipal context were also analyzed, as well as the repercussions of land and property speculation on local agricultural dynamics. For the investigation of food safety groups, applied the questionnaire of the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale (EBIA) in forty farm properties and forty city homes of Nepomuceno. Furthermore, other aspects that influence food security of individuals, like alcoholism, obesity, use of pesticides, psychological problems, among others, were also evaluated. In this context, dialogue with the research individuals and a longer period of contact with them, were crucial to the conduct of this study. Thus, the study aims to show some of the influences of the agrarian question in the feed of men and women studied, reverberating consequently on their health.

[en] REWRITING THE PAST: ALBERTO NEPOMUCENO UNDER THE MODERNIST BATON / [pt] RECOMPONDO O PASSADO: ALBERTO NEPOMUCENO SOB A BATUTA MODERNISTA

ROGERIO SOARES DE MOURA 10 February 2009 (has links)
[en] This paper aims at analyzing the process of image construction of the composer Alberto Nepomuceno in works of three important authors who have written about the Brazilian musical past: Guilherme de Melo, Renato Almeida and Mário de Andrade. After identifying them as the first and most important conformers of the elements constituting the process, such elements were analyzed, considering the authors` points of view on the Brazilian music formation. This aspect consists of the study of the projects developed by them, taking into special consideration their opinion on issues like: musical nationalism, popular music, classical music, ethnic influences and aesthetic and stylistic models, making it possible to understand not only the types of memory of Brazilian music that are being created at the first decades of the XX century and their respective goals, but also the image of musical Brazil which is intended to be transmitted to future generations.

Taddei, Rita de Cassia 10 April 2015 (has links)
This dissertation analyses the harmonic structure of the \"lyric episode\" Artémis, composed by Alberto Nepomuceno, aiming to demonstrate that the technique used by the composer employs, systematically, the principles of the post-Wagnerian chromatic language. We observe, initially, that the project of this piece fits the avant-garde aesthetics of its time, aligning itself to the progressive trends of the period. In this sense we verify - although Nepomuceno has been identified by the modernistic Brazilian historiography as a forerunner of the Brazilian musical nationalism - that his cosmopolitan inclinations prevailed in this composition. At first, for the adequate development of the research, we examined which tool of harmonic analysis, dedicated to the chromatic repertoire of the final of the XIX Century, would be more adequate to the music of Artémis. We present, therefore, an introduction to the analytical theories that might be useful to the repertoire of expanded tonality of the XIX Century, focusing in the texts of Hugo Riemann, Arnold Schoenberg and David Kopp. The harmonic theories of Riemann, as the matrix for all these theories, are extensively investigated. We compare, in the sequence, the proposals of three theoreticians that developed analytical tools for pieces with chromatic structures. Revealing the positive and negative aspects of each of these theories, we pointed out the recent neoriemannian theory by Kopp as the one that better systematizes, for our purposes, the academic advances in the understanding of the harmonic problems of the chromatic repertoire composed at the end of the XIX Century. Because we defend the importance of considering simultaneously theory, analysis and repertoire, we confront theory and practice, applying to Artémis, Kopp\'s chromatic transformations systematic theory. This way we were able to demonstrate, in the practice of the analytical process, through an analytic tool perfectly fit to proposed repertoire, results that attest the structural coherence of the studied musical text with the transformational principles of post-Wagnerian chromatic harmony.

Um estudo multivalente do Trio de Alberto Nepomuceno / A Multivalent Study of the Alberto Nepomuceno\'s Piano Trio

Bueno, Robison Poreli Moura 17 December 2018 (has links)
This work analyzes the Piano Trio in F sharp minor by the Brazilian composer Alberto Nepomuceno, aiming to constitute a case study that allows a better positioning of the composer\'s work in the period of transition between Brazilian romanticism and modernism. It raises data from the ideological-musical context in which the work is inserted, especially the French notions of progress and its musical consequences in the early twentieth century. The research also presents the theoretical foundations of an analytical proposal that aims to incorporate into the structural analysis the unfolding of musical meaning. It seeks to unite, through the concept of multivalence, the studies of topics, schemata, narrativity and intertextuality. The work presents four multivalent analysis, one for each movement of the work. The results point to a work that constitutes a network of introversive and extroversive musical symbols, which makes a balance between formal and expressive tradition and the use of new sound materials.

The Brazilian Art Song and the Non-Brazilian Portuguese Singer: A Performance Guide to Nine Songs by Alberto Nepomuceno

Riggs, Rawlianne 05 1900 (has links)
Alberto Nepomuceno (1864-1920) is considered to be the father of the Brazilian art song. With a total of seventy songs, Nepomuceno revolutionized and established a new path to the Brazilian art song. His songs were innovative because they: (1) incorporated folk elements in his songs, (2) introduced Portuguese as a language acceptable in bel canto style and (3) established Brazilian songs in the tradition of the European vanguard. His approach influenced several composers including his young student Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959), one of the most significant Latin American composers. The purpose of this research is to inform singers and teachers about one of Brazil's most significant art song composers, and to provide the necessary tools--Brazilian Portuguese diction guide, IPA and poem translations of the selected songs--for effective and accurate performances and interpretations.

The internal logical analysis of the sources requires a research that captures not only the social environment at that moment but also the development of these relations, making it possible to understand the use of nationalism in music; the relation between music and society shows itself, then, objectively. Setting out from musical works urges us to contextualize them; for that, the History of Brazil in the 19th and 20th centuries is slightly rescued in order to determine the limitations and presumed conditions, both material and spiritual in which the songs were created. The tight relation of the country with the dominant nations at that time, as well as the observation of the Brazilian Erudite Music tradition led us to include the nationalist music of these two composers in a very lively world scenario. The Nationalist Music reveals itself then, as a historical one / O trabalho aqui apresentado observa o nacionalismo pelas produções musicais de Alberto Nepomuceno e Francisco Mignone.

The role of Jose Nepomuceno in the Philippine society : What language did his silent films speak?

Tofighian, Nadi January 2006 (has links)

This paper examines the role of the pioneer Filipino filmmaker Jose Nepomuceno and his films in the Philippine quest for independence and in the process of nation-building. As all of Nepomuceno's films are lost, most of the information was gathered from old newspaper articles on microfilm in different archives in Manila. Many of these articles were hitherto undiscovered. Nepomuceno made silent films at a time when the influence of the new coloniser, United States, was growing, and the Spanish language was what unified the intellectual opposition. Previous research on Nepomuceno has focused on the Hispanic influences on his filmmaking, as well as his connections to the stage drama. This paper argues that Nepomuceno created a national consciousness by making films showing native lives and environments, adapting important Filipino novels and plays to the screen and covering important political topics and thereby creating public opinion. Many reviews in the newspapers connected his films to nation-building and independence, as the creation of a national consciousness is a cornerstone in the process of building a nation and defining "Filipino". Furthermore, the films of Nepomuceno helped spreading the Tagalog culture and language to other parts of the Philippines, hence making Tagalog the foundation of the national Filipino language.
