Behovet av en mobilapplikation som stöd vid amning : En kvalitativ intervjustudie / The need for a breastfeeding application to support breastfeeding : A qualitative interview study

Trigell, Catrin, Rigsjö, Josefin January 2020 (has links)
WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding to six months of age and partial breastfeeding up to two years of age or longer. Only 13% of children born in 2017 were exclusively breastfed at the age of six months. Eliminating the breastfeeding period from a woman’s reproductive cycle can lead to negative aspects for mother and child later in life. The most important factors to establish breastfeeding is support and knowledge. Mothers of today are used to being able to easily search for information and support on the internet at all times. The lack of suitable apps as support during breastfeeding has resulted in this study, the aim of which is to examine the wishes and needs of new mothers with regards to an application as support during breastfeeding. The study is a qualitative interview study with in total 10 semi-structured interviews. The interviews were analyzed through a qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach. The findings of the study have resulted in three categories: Breastfeeding information facilitates breastfeeding, The importance of having contact with breastfeeding care and The breastfeeding story as support. The central finding is that new mothers have a great need of easily accessible information, support and contact based on evidence-backed knowledge during their breastfeeding journey but also during pregnancy. Today, the natural way to search for information is via smartphones or computers. Through a breastfeeding application based on scientific knowledge new mothers would have easy access to reliable information and support which can contribute to a longer duration of breastfeeding.

Supporting social interaction between mothers : A wearable design proposal

Waldorff, Michael January 2021 (has links)
This thesis aims to find opportunities to support communication between new mothers to foster a sense of connectedness, during a pandemic where social interactions such as parent groups are unavailable. The project is based on research that shows that new parents have a great need for social support. Due to physical distancing, there was room for interaction design to intervene by exploring tangible solutions to develop innovative custom design. Through a user-centered design process, including findings from theory, interviews and design workshops with the target group, the study resulted in a co-created design proposal of a communication device in the form of a wearable wristband. The proposal showed positive indications in meeting the needs and desires of mothers found during a co-design workshop.

Development of guidelines to improve the uptake and quality of postnatal care in Ethiopia

Ademe Tsegaye Adgo 07 1900 (has links)
Post-natal care is a care given to the mother and the newborn during post-natal period. This period is crucial to save the lives of the mother and the newborn. Despite its importance, the utilisation of this service is very low in Ethiopia. This study was conducted to establish the views and experiences of women and health care workers on post-natal care services and determine the factors influencing its utilisation with the ultimate purpose of developing guidelines to improve uptake and quality of the services in South West Shoa Zone of Oromia Region, Ethiopia. The objectives of the study were to explore and describe the women’s views and experiences on utilisation of post-natal care service. Furthermore, the study sought to explore and describe health care workers views and experiences on provision of the services and to assess the factors facilitating or hindering to the utilisation of it. Ultimately, the study had intended to develop guidelines that would contribute towards improving the uptake and quality of the post-natal care services. The study used a qualitative descriptive and explorative research design to address the research questions. Qualitative data were collected from 19 women who gave birth in the past six months and from 24 health care workers providing post-natal care services (health care workers and health extension workers) and coordinating the overall maternal, neonatal and child health services in the study area (Zone and district health officials; primary health care units heads). The study used in-depth interview guides to collect data from the aforementioned study participants. Inductive thematic analysis was performed on the verbatim transcriptions using the Atlas ti version 8 qualitative data analysis software. / Health Studies / D. Litt. et Phil. (Health Studies)

"Att bli mamma är en känslostorm" : En kvalitativ studie om nyblivna mammors välbefinnande i relation till föräldraskapet / ” Becoming a mother is a storm of emotions” : A qualitative study on the well-being of mothers that recently gave birth to a child in relation to parenthood

Kim, Jonsson Lundin, Nellie, Karlsson January 2019 (has links)
The background to this study is based on former research that has found specific risk factors to develop a postpartum depression. A postpartum depression is classified as the most common complication of a pregnancy and birth and affect the well-being of both the mother and her family. The purpose was to investigate the experience of well-being among mothers that recently give birth in relation to parenting and to find out how the mothers think a preventive work against postpartum depression should be. The used method is a qualitative method with two individual semi-structured interviews and three focus group interviews. The analytical method used in the study is a qualitative content analysis. The result three main categories named “external risk factors that affect the mothers’ well-being”, “individual risk factors that affect the mothers’ well-being” and “preventive work from the mothers’ perspective”. These main categories showed that expectations, lack of support and lack of information were the main results that could affect the mothers’ well-being. The conclusion shows that the main results play a major role for the well-being of mothers who recently gave birth and that the healthcare have a major responsibility in the preventive work of the well-being among them. To continue the preventive work against postpartum depression the subject needs further research.
