An investigation into the establishment of an Islamic banking enterprise in the Tshwane and surrounding areas / Omar Mahomed Khan

Khan, Omar Mahomed January 2013 (has links)
Muslims in South Africa live within the framework of a Western economy in which the notion of interest plays a pivotal role. This system does not seem to comply with the strict interpretation of Islamic law, since the Quran prohibits any dealings on the basis of interest and strongly condemns those who continue to deal in interest-based transactions, warning them of a “notice of war from Allah and His Apostle”. Muslims are therefore faced with the dilemma of either participating in the current prevailing economic system and thereby violating the Quranic injunctions prohibiting interest or Riba, or completely withdrawing from participation in this system and conducting their business transactions in accordance with Islamic injunctions. This study is an attempt to examine whether an Islamic banking enterprise within the greater Tshwane area could survive and even flourish in the long term if it were operating within the parameters of Islamic law, thus in the absence of the interest factor. The research methodology employed was that of qualitative research, and the study consists of both a literature and an empirical study. It became evident from the literature review that a bank’s survival within the Western economic order depends on the confidence that its depositors have in it. In an Islamic economic system the ethical and legal components distinguish it from other systems. The most striking feature of the Islamic banking environment is the so-called profit and loss sharing system (PLS). The literature study was complemented by an empirical study. Respondents were interviewed in three categories: Muslim businessmen, Islamic bankers and Islamic religious leaders. An analysis of data from the respondents revealed that they were of the opinion that there was a need for an Islamic bank in order to avoid any interest-based dealings and to operate strictly in accordance with Islamic law and principles. Based on the literature and field study a simple model of an Islamic banking enterprise was constructed which could function within the greater Tshwane area and within the South African economic context, but which would be based on Islamic Shariah principles. In constructing this model due cognisance was taken of the fact that it would prove to be a very difficult task to amend existing banking laws to provide for the easy entry and functioning of an Islamic bank. Based on the literature and empirical study it was concluded that to provide for the easy entry and functioning of an Islamic banking enterprise, it should not be structured or named as a bank but rather as a finance company which would then be able to offer most of the services that are offered by traditional banks but without having to comply with the strict regulations as applicable to traditional banks. The dissertation’s final conclusion and recommendation was thus that an Islamic bank should operate not as a bank but as a finance company, thereby accomplishing its pivotal role to enable Muslims to use these indispensable services successfully while complying wholly with Islamic Shariah law. / PhD (Business Management), North-West University, Vaal Triangle Campus, 2013

糧食安全援助與非營利組織之研究 / A Study of the Aid for Food Security and the Non-Profit Organizations

戴思佳, Teyla Valeska Darce Zuniga Unknown Date (has links)
糧食安全援助與非營利組織之研究 / The International Organizations the same as the non-profit organizations are aware of how much this issue matter around the world and the government from the different more vulnerable countries represent in many cases, the principal problem that difficulties the work of the non-profit sector. There is a clear need to build a new system strategy for each bloc according to their characteristics in order to apply the correct plan for ensuring the food access for all the people as equals, but there is no doubt that the income inequality is a social issue that affects every country in the world and that also bring consequences for the food security of the people in countries such as Haiti. This topic was selected for its importance worldwide, in order to analyze the type of work of the non-profit organizations in the food security sector as aid channels in Latin American and the Caribbean regions, and how their partnership with government agencies and international organizations is indispensable for the complementation of the work. And the research finding of the two cases study is about the capacity of sustainability that the farmers of the countries can reach through the aid for food security provided by the non-profit organizations, and on the other hand, the dependency that the aid provided can cause in the donors (in the case of Haiti). The potential that both regions have to improve the food security and develop the agricultural sector, but also explaining the case of the most poor countries in each region (Nicaragua and Haiti), both cases study serve to compare the different activities of the NPO and how their work affect the sustainability and development of the beneficiaries in the field of food security.

Hur en organisationskultur kan se ut i en sportorganisation : - En kvalitativ studie om Karlskronas Hockeyklubbs administrativa personals potentiella kultur / How organizational culture can look like in sport organizations : A qualitative study about how Karlskrona Hockey Club’s administrative personnel’s potential culture

Karlsson, Michelle, Rydberg, Johanna January 2016 (has links)
Authors: Michelle Karlsson and Johanna Rydberg Titel: How organizational culture can look like in sport organizations – A qualitative study about how Karlskrona Hockey Club’s administrative personnel’s potential culture. This study is written because of the reason that today’s sport organizations have become more like traditional and profitable businesses, which makes the administrative personnel work more important for the organizations. Earlier studies have been made, but the focus is on the players or the members in the organization and also on their development. We want to concentrate this essay on the administrative personnel’s potential culture and their contribution to the organization. Our research questions are 1) How does the administrative personnel’s work look like in a sport organization from a cultural perspective?, and 2) If, and which, culture pursues sport organizations and the administrative personnel? To answer these questions we have used theories from Edgar H. Schein and Mats Alvesson, who are leading cultural scholars. We turned to Karlskronas Hockey Club as a case study where we made six individual interviews and general observations that became our empirical basis. The chosen theories and the collected empirical data were later interconnected and used for further analysis. The main conclusion of our analysis, based on the theories, is that sport organizations culture are dependent on what context and state the organization is in. In our case study Karlskrona’s Hockey Club is a relatively new organization with a lot of new employed people who influence the culture. The theories, taken from Alvesson and Schein, explain the effects when new people get employed. The culture that exists among the administrative personnel is therefore under consistent development and has a hard time finding stability. Nowadays sport organizations need to focus on the budget and economy to survive, but profit isn’t the main purpose. People working in sport organizations are driven by commitment and interest for the sport and members in the organization.

Base Erosion and Profit Shifting, Action 8 : En rättsutredning beträffande nya riktlinjer för internprissättning av immateriella tillgångar / Base Erosion and Profit Shifting, Action 8 : A judicial enquiry regarding the revised guidelines concerning transfer pricing of intangibles

Persson, Frank January 2017 (has links)

Torstensson, Jenny, Westerlund, Maria January 2016 (has links)
The non-profit elite sports associations are beginning to be largely commercialized and the gap between them and private sector are on the verge of disappearing. However, they still are a non-profit sports association that should be public, democratic, have a people operating character and be equal - they should, in other words, through its main activity contribute to society. Although the elite sports unions tends to take more social responsibility by conducting various projects and activities aimed to help for example vulnerable groups in society. The aim of the paper is to understand what the social community engagements means to the non-profit elite sports association in relation to their stakeholders. By carrying out semi-structured interviews with representatives from five different non-profit elite sports associations, we have formed an understanding of their social responsibility and then interpret the meanings of this for the non-profit elite sports association and for whom they work with social responsibility. The paper helps to understand that there are new strategies to use when it comes to operating a non-profit sports association. We hope that the paper can help to inspire people in sports associations to take new paths when it comes to managing and developing sports associations in Sweden.

An Archival Expedition: My Journey to Organize and Further Document the History of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association

Durst, Amanda 01 January 2005 (has links)
I joined the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA) in the spring of 2004 and immediately assumed the position of VASTA Archive Cataloguist. I began to sort and file the history of the organization, as it existed. I worked on the archive project for almost a year before I stumbled onto a second project. In discovering something missing from the VASTA Archive, I began devising a plan to collect stories to flesh out the existing materials. They will be called the "VASTA Stories". In my two years of service to VASTA - as archive cataloguist, and now as archivist - I have worked to develop a system of organization for the existing materials, a catalogue system to document the archive's contents, as well as a system for the collection of new materials. My involvement in VASTA, and the inspiration for these projects, comes from Kate Ufema and Janet Rodgers - both past-presidents of VASTA.

The dynamic linkage between customer satisfaction, retention and profitability : the nuclei drivers of success

Le Roux, Jan Nicholaas 09 April 2009 (has links)
Abstract “Customer Satisfaction” has many dimensions. The purpose of this research is to explore these dimensions briefly (using the Service Value Chain concept) and to determine the fundamental drivers of success in customer satisfaction from the perspective of a service organisation. Employees proved to be the pivotal element influencing the outcome of customer satisfaction, as they influence organisational behaviour, customer experience and business profitability. The outcome of the research also promotes the idea that organisations need to become customer - orientated, which requires organisational cultures to change. “Nuclei Drivers of Success in Customer Satisfaction” 3 Two noteworthy results were obtained from this research, which is viewed by the author as a significant contribution to the Service Value Chain. The two specific findings are the empirical evidence in the results of the relationship between Staff Defection and Customer Satisfaction and the relationship between Customer Satisfaction and Organisation Profitability.

Hospodárová, Zuzana January 2011 (has links)
The thesis offers and systematizes the knowledge of the social services provided by the Law Digest, number 108/2006. This thesis is focused primarily on the most significant conceptual changes. In particular, the provision of new social benefits - care allowance, contract for the provision of social services, registration of providers, social services inspection, defining of required qualified assumptions for the work in social services and, of course, financing the entire region. Main shortcomings of these institutes are solved separately. Of the many services offered the thesis deals with one particular - personal assistance, its treatment in the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. The thesis brings information concerning the non-profit organizations, primarily because they belong to one of the leading providers of social services.

Alternativní řešení trestních věcí se zaměřením na trest obecně prospěšných prací a domácí vězení / Alternative solutions of criminal cases with a focus on community service and home detention

Tuháčková, Petra January 2015 (has links)
Every day, I come across improper conduct, disobedience, breaking the law and subsequently also the criminal activity. In my final thesis, I wanted to summarize everything that is connected to the issue of alternative penalties and to aim especially at such punishment that is sometimes underestimated as re-education. Nevertheless, the new Criminal Code covers them to a large extent. Thanks to this elaboration and usage of alternative punishment in practice their usage is becoming more and more known among the public. Let's hope that it will help to deal with overcrowded prisons and to lower the costs on the prisons' operation. The aim of this thesis is to stress the importance of alternative punishment in practice, especially to show such way of punishment as important and significant mechanism for enforcing punitive sanctions thank to all workers of probationary and mediation services. I believe that processed statistics and questionnaires shall enlighten the whole processing of the topic and shall show how the public views the issue of alternative punishment.
