: En paneldata analys över 19 OECD länder / Does inflation have any relation on economic growth? : A panel data analysis of 19 OECD countries

Jareke, Emelie, Hyyppä Bennet, Katarina January 2022 (has links)
There are various aspects that affect economic growth, including inflation. For many years, there have been discussions about the relationship between these two variables. This thesis analyzes the relation between economic growth and inflation. In addition, the study answers whether inflation has any statistically significant relation to economic growth. The study uses panel data from 19 OECD member countries from 1976 to 2020. To analyze the data, a regression model is designed by using ln GDP per capita as a dependent variable and including seven independent variables (inflation, foreign direct investment, domestic savings, terms of trade, population growth, human capital and initial GDP). The results of the regression analysis are conducted using the fixed effects least squares dummy variable model indicate a negative relationship between inflation and GDP per capita. However, the result is only shown to be statistically significant unless countries-, period dummies or initial GDP are included.

The relationship between economic growth, FDI and human capital : An empirical study with focus on the OECD-countries

Andersson, Anja, Samardzic, Selma January 2022 (has links)
Studien omfattar 31 OECD-länder under tidsperioden 1989-2020. / The purpose of this study is to examine how the level of human capital in a country will influence the effect FDI has on economic growth. The study covers 31 OECD-countries during the time period 1989-2020. The impact of FDI on economic growth is examined in a multiple regression model with panel data where the focus is on the interaction between FDI and education (a proxy for human capital). The theoretical framework is mainly focused on Romer’s endogenous growth theory and institutional theory. The result of the multiple regression model shows that FDI as a single variable has a positive effect on economic growth. The interaction between FDI and human capital was shown to have a negative effect on economic growth. However, the result of human capital as a single factor was proved to be positive in relation to economic growth. The results indicate that a high level of human capital in a country does not attract enough foreign direct investment to have a positive effect on economic growth.

The determinants of voter turnout in OECD : An aggregated cross-national study using panel data

Olsén Ingefeldt, Niclas January 2016 (has links)
This paper examines in a descriptive manner how two groups of variables, institutional and socio-economic, correlate with voter turnout respectively and if their magnitude have changed over time in OECD countries. Previous research is often based on data from the 70’s and 80’s. Since then, voter turnout in democratic countries has decreased and more citizens do not use their fundamental democratic right of being involved in the process of choosing their representatives. To answer the paper hypotheses i.e. analyzing what factors that correlates with voter turnout, panel data between 1980 and 2012 are used which is estimated by an OLS approach. The outcome of the empirical estimations indicates that 13 out of 19 variables have a significant relationship with turnout. Most of the variables magnitudes are a bit lower than previous literature. From the time sensitivity analysis the result indicates that voters are less influenced by the significant variables that focus on the voting cost. It seems that voters in the 21st century meet voting costs in different manner than previously.

Internationell Kunskapsbedömning som inslag i nationell styrning av skolan / International knowledge assessments: an element of national educational steering

Pettersson, Daniel January 2008 (has links)
<p>The object of study is the international knowledge assessments and attention is given to the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) and the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD). As a way to explain the content in the international knowledge assessments an historical exposition about the IEA and OECD is written. International knowledge assessment is studied in relation to the national and international perspective, but also in relation to educational governing. By doing this concepts of globalisation and internationalisation are discussed as communication patterns. It is then possible to understand organisations like the IEA and OECD as institutionalised communication channels. If this is done it is possible to discuss globalisation and internationalisation as something else than an inevitable endpoint. </p><p>Through institutionalised communication channels international knowledge assessments appear in national contexts and some observations can be made. The first one is that international knowledge assessments reformulate relationships. In this the educational actors on national levels are observed. These actors are involved in a struggle for power over definition in what should be seen as educational problems and solutions. In this the actors and the educational system they represent tries to strive and communicate modernity, strong international competitiveness and development. Secondly the actors when reformulating the international ideologies into national contexts transform extern priorities to internal priorities. Thirdly an international ideology might be understood as isomorphic ideology. When the isomorphic ideology impacts national contexts it has to be mediated. The mediation is driven by the fact that it is constituted by the national context, but also by the different roles the actors take or are given. The notion about isomorphic ideology is investigated more properly in Appendix I, in relation to UNESCO, and it is declared that international cooperations are part of nations urge to make their educational institutions more effective. In relation to the conclusion from Appendix I international knowledge assessments are interpreted as a technological/instrumental method for making the production process more effective.</p><p>When the international knowledge assessments come down in national contexts some empirical reactions can be discussed. This is analysed from examples taken from the Swedish context, but these results are also in relation to the contexts in Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands. In the study examples are given on how international knowledge assessments are given meaning by political, administrative and media actors. It is primarily three results that can be uplifted. International knowledge assessments are used as an arena for communication in which arguments can be fetched and discussions can be made. International knowledge assessments are also used as present point descriptions, and point of departure for descriptions of educational vision of the future. And finally they are used for legitimising or repudiating politics of education.</p>

Documentation within Transfer Pricing : A case study

Lagerqvist, Johan, Cheng, Yan January 2009 (has links)
<p><strong>Purpose:</strong> The overall purpose of this thesis is to provide an analysis of the effects of the documentation requirements on transfer pricing and provide a clearer picture of the documentation requirements in transfer pricing. Furthermore, the purpose is to analyze whether the chosen method of Superfos is adequate related to the new regulations.</p><p><strong>Background:</strong> In 2007, new regulations concerning the documentation of transfer pricing was enacted in Swedish law based on OECD guidelines. This change has led to new internal guidelines for companies regarding their transfer pricing work since the requirements apply to both Swedish owned companies and foreign owned companies. Furthermore, with this change, a great uncertainty about the requirements is shared by companies.</p><p><strong>Method:</strong> This thesis has been conducted as a qualitative case study with Superfos as the case company. A deductive approach has been used and the collection of data consists of both primary and secondary data. Primary in the form of an interview with the finance manager at Superfos and secondary through the use of the Swedish tax authority's stated guidelines concerning transfer pricing as well as books, journals and databases.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>In the conclusion we present a clarifying model of the documentation in transfer pricing based on the data collected for this thesis. In six steps, a clarifying picture of the overview, company structure, transactions identification, functional analysis, comparability analysis and results is provided.</p>

Manitoba mathematics education and the programme for international student assessment: goals, analysis, and comparisons

Thiessen, Tanis J. 13 January 2017 (has links)
This thesis answers the question of whether and to what extent the goals of PISA align with the Manitoba Government’s goals and priority action areas, and whether the published results of PISA 2012 provide information that addresses the Manitoba Government’s education goals and priority action areas, within the context of mathematics. This thesis provides a qualitative analysis of three PISA 2012 documents, and explores and compares Manitoba PISA 2012 achievement data to Manitoba grade 9 mathematics credit achievement data for English and Français program students, EAL and Aboriginal students to determine whether and to what extent the goals of PISA align with the goals and priority action areas of Manitoba Education and Training, and whether the published results of PISA 2012 provide information addressing the goals and priority action areas of Manitoba Education and Training, within the context of mathematics. / February 2017

The Political Impact of Rising Trade Exposure: Evidence from 2000 - 2016 U.S. Presidential Elections

Qian, Xiaoyang 01 January 2017 (has links)
In this paper we analyze the impact of global imports on regional labor markets, and how such impact translates to changes in voting patterns in the U.S. Presidential elections from 2000 to 2016. We find that imports from different U.S. trading partners influence voting patterns in different ways. In particular, we observe an anti-incumbent effect caused by import competition from OECD countries. Such an effect cannot be observed for imports from low-income countries. There is also evidence that suggests high exposure to import competition tends to drive voters toward the Democratic candidate, who typically proposes better social welfare programs and more protectionist policies. For imports from low-income countries, evidence for such effects is less robust, but still significant. Despite the voters’ earlier alignment toward the Democrats, we observe a significant voter realignment toward the Republican candidate in the 2016 election due to sudden changes in the Republicans’ stance on global trade. Taken together, these results paint a picture of how the voters’ sentiment towards global trade evolves throughout time and varies with regards to different U.S. trading partners.

Simulace dopadů pracovních zákonů na trh práce / Simulation of Impacts of Labor Laws on Labor Market

Dlouhá, Ilona January 2011 (has links)
This master thesis analyzes the differences in the labor laws and their impacts on the development of the labor markets in large selection of OECD countries, including the Czech Republic. The thesis covers both historical and current data including the late-2000s recession. The labor market performance is measured by hours worked per person, which combines the extensive margin (employment rate) and the intensive margin (hours worked by employed individuals). Labor laws are represented by the average and marginal tax wedges, employment protection legislation, labor market policies and trade union density. The thesis contains an empirical model of the relationship between the labor market performance and labor laws for 24 OECD countries for the period 2000-2008. The thesis shows that the lower hours worked are associated with more strict employment protection legislation and lower trade union density. The effect of taxation (in terms of tax wedges) varies substantially among different subgroups of the population, but it is generally quite weak (elasticity around -0.15) and it cannot explain the overall differences in the development of the labor market performance among countries.

Významné determinanty daňových výnosů osobní důchodové daně / Significant Variables of Personal Income Tax Revenues

Weberová, Jana January 2009 (has links)
The dissertation is devoted to the questions of personal income tax. Because of the fundamental role of the personal income tax in the public finance area, it is very difficult to know variables that have an effect on its revenues in various countries and times. The attention is targeted on OECD countries. The paper begins with some thesis about tax functions of personal income tax in public finance and also with its importance in the tax mix in the nearly last forty years. Following part of the dissertation includes identification and a description of these variables that may have and effect on tax revenues regarding if these may have an effect on the personal income tax revenues. The variables were categorized into three groups -- economic, demographic and politico-sociologic. The main part of the paper is panel regression analysis with the fixed effects that is aimed at searching of various variables that have significant effect on the personal income tax revenues. In this part there are some regression models with the regression function linear in parameters or regression function nonlinear in parameters. The results of analysis are compared to each other and also to other author's results. Interpretation and summary of the results of analysis are also introduced.
