The PILOOR Model : a guideline to mutually improve logistics performance in cross-border shipper-TPL provider relationshipsJazayrli, Amer, Lenhardt, Johannes January 2015 (has links)
Purpose: This master thesis attempts to propose a guideline for improving logistics performance in terms of cost efficiency and on-time delivery in shipper-TPL provider relationships within offshore outsourcing businesses. Methodology: As a first step, the authors construct a conceptual model based on a thorough literature review. In a second step, empirical data is collected through semi-structured interviews within a single-case study with dyadic perspectives examining the shipper-TPL provider relationship of Ericsson, Sweden and Aramex, Saudi Arabia. Lastly, the authors are able to develop a final detailed model through merging the discovered theoretical and empirical findings. Findings: The findings of this thesis highlight the impact on performance of the factors of communication, culture, work agreements, standardization, system compliance and trust. Based on these factors, the PILOOR Model is developed that illustrates a sequential order of these factors to improve performance. In detail, the findings suggest to start off with communication and culture in order to foster a mutual understanding. Afterwards, work agreements and standardization within processes and communication channels should be established. Thus, considerable efforts are required within the build-up stage of shipper-TPL provider relationships. Within the execution stage, system compliance is found to enhance performance, in which formal and informal communication tools support performance improvements. Finally, this research highlights that trust develops over time by successfully working on the other factors. In addition, it has an overall positive effect on performance once a sufficient level is achieved. Research Implications: This research is the first to propose a guideline for performance improvements within offshore outsourcing of TPL services through the presented PILOOR Model. Thus, this research fills a significant gap within the body of the TPL literature. Furthermore, the PILOOR Model is believed to support practitioners in successfully building-up and executing their offshore outsourcing shipper-TPL provider relationships. Limitations & Further Research: Due to the choice of methodology, this study is limited in terms of generalizability. Therefore, the authors suggest replicating this study within other offshore outsourcing shipper-TPL relationships. Ideally, the developed PILOOR Model should be tested empirically.

IT Offshoring and Offshore outsourcing : a business strategy between Sweden and India - Importance of communication and understanding varying aspectsJohnsson, Angela, Raj, Sanya January 2012 (has links)
Program: Civilekonomprogrammet

Outsourcing till Indien : För små och medelstora företagVekariya, Manish January 2007 (has links)

Outsourcing has grown more so than any other sector of IT services. According to a research by the analytic company Gartner soon four of ten jobs in the IT sector will be outsourced. For a nation like Sweden that means about 40,000 jobs going abroad. Business managers look to outsourcing as a means of reducing their operating cost and their need for capital spending. Companies turn to outsourcing to save money and seek expertise outside. As the competition is tough these days especially for small-to-medium sized enterprises, paying someone else to do work inexpensively is one way to get around.

Small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) have become a sector buried in all the media "hype". This essay is written in an effort to help SMEs uncover the relevant strategic offshoring issues. Many managers fail to figure out India after their first visit, other get confused by the culture differences. The purpose of this essay is to map out the different ways to outsource to India and to assist managers with all necessary information that is needed. Which ownership models there are and how to choose the one that fits you. How the different ways and methods lack and what is their limitation. Not to mention how to avoid hindrance during the process. The essay will also map the Indian outsourcing industry, the major industry players and the major outsourcing locations.
/

The way towards outsourcing success in start-ups : A multiple case study in Swedish software firmsRave, Olaf, Piskin, Onur January 2019 (has links)
Background: Sweden is the home to many successful startups. The lack of IT-developers causes companies to use offshore outsourcing to realize their ideas. In research, there are studies on what needs to be done to outsource successfully. Researchers and practitioners argue that different perspectives on the impact of success need to be considered. Many studies show that the quality of the partnership relationship between customer and supplier is essential for the success of an outsourcing project. However, there are little studies on how success in outsourcing for a start-up comes about in the pre start-up phase and from which factors this depends. Purpose: This research has the purpose to understand why software startups outsource offshore in the pre-startup phase and how success can be achieved in these outsourcing projects. The partnership relationship has an influence on the success of outsourcing and is influenced by several factors. This research aims to find critical success factors in the pre start-up phase for offshore outsourcing. Method: To find answers to our research questions a multiple case study within 9 Swedish start-ups was conducted. Therefore, we collected all data through semi-structured interviews based on an interview guide. The critical success factors in outsourcing in the pre start-up phase were analyzed using content analysis methods. Conclusion: Our results show that outsourcing was an essential business step for all the examined software start-ups in order to realize their idea. In most cases, tactical reasons like availability of resources and costs savings were why start-ups chose to outsource software development to a provider abroad. The quick confirmation of ideas was another important aspect for some start-ups: "fail fast and fail cheap". All investigated factors play a role in offshoring success, but communication, which directly influences trust, has the biggest influence on outsourcing success in the pre start-up phase of a firm. All other success factors influence the trust between client and vendor, which has a positive influence on the outsourcing success. It turns out that factors such as performance become more relevant in a more mature phase of the business.

IT Offshoring Success: A Social Exchange PerspectiveSt. John, Jeremy 08 1900 (has links)
Spending by U.S. companies in offshore IT services continues at unprecedented levels despite a high failure rate. This study fills a gap in the existing literature by examining the client-vendor offshoring relationship through the theoretical lens of social exchange theory at the organizational level of analysis from the client's perspective. Social exchange theory focuses on the exchange of activities between two parties, whether they are individuals or companies and was used as a basis for examining the client and vendor relationship. Variables were identified by a review of the literature primarily from IT outsourcing and offshoring but also from general IT, marketing, sociology and organizational science literature. Data was collected using a field survey of Fortune 500 CIOs representing a population of organizations at the forefront of the offshoring phenomenon. The survey instrument was developed based on the adaptation of previously validated scales. Hypotheses regarding the correlations between social variables such as trust, communication, dependence, power, shared values and offshoring success were tested using Spearman's rho correlation. Seven of the hypotheses were supported, four hypotheses were not supported and one hypothesis was deemed not testable due to lack of information.
