This research approaches the motivation in learning music in virtual learning environments under the sociocognitive theoretical perspective of motivation. The research aims, as general objective, to investigate the students’ motivational processes in online interaction in guitar classes through distance education in the Degree in Music at the State University of Rio Grande of Norte (UERN), based on the Self-Determination Theory (RYAN; DECI, 2004; RYAN; DECI, 2006). The specific objectives sought to analyze the perceptions satisfaction of the needs for autonomy, competence and belonging of students in online interaction; to identify the quality motivational of the students in those online interactions; to discuss the environmental influences on the students’ motivation, to verify the manifestations of basic psychological needs for synchronous and asynchronous interactions, and to highlight the tools that helped the online interactions in a distance education process. The methodology used on this study was the educational action-research (MORIN, 2004). The analyzed data were collected through participant observation, semi structured interviews, footage of the interactions made in videoconferencing and conversation records in synchronous and asynchronous forums. The results show that the major motivation of the students was not intrinsic. Instead, the motivation was considered complex, multifaceted and sensitive in determined situations. The synchronous and asynchronous interactions, in the complex and complementary way proposed in this study, could provision the basic psychological needs of the students, as well as, enable a viable and effective alternative to the musical education of these students.

Use of Social Media in Crisis Communication in the Federal Government During COVID-19 Pandemic: Analysis of Responses StrategiesEl Mouloudi, Mostapha 21 January 2022 (has links)
Social media has become a prime tool in communicating during crises. Ongoing COVID-19 pandemic illustrates this trend strongly with the Canadian government conveying messaging through many platforms. In this thesis, we aimed to explore how Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and Health Canada (HC) communicate with Canadians through social media, namely Twitter. Based on insights from social media practices drawn from work by Wendling et al. (2013); Lin et al. (2016) and from social mediated crisis communication theory of Austin et al. (2012), we sought to find what type of social media strategies adopted to execute crisis communication during COVID-19 pandemic. We also aimed at understanding to what extent these reflect the theoretical framework of the present study. To undertake this research, we opted for a mix of quantitative and qualitative analysis enabled by thematic analysis to identify categories of meaning and their trend. We found that social media strategies adopted by PHAC and HC have many aspects in common with the theoretical framework, yet they offer many nuances in practices driven mainly by the length of the crisis and the uncertainty it has caused. This thesis brings theory into practice by researching an ongoing crisis, gauging social media use practices against messaging strategies. It also calls on the need for updating theories and good practices in light of the outcomes of the COVID-19 crisis.

The present thesis explores how interaction is initiated in multi-party meetings in Adobe Connect, 7.0, with a particular focus on how co-presence and mutual availability are established through the preambles of 18 meetings held in Spanish without a moderator. Taking Conversation Analysis (CA) as a methodological point of departure, this thesis comprises four different studies, each of them analyzing a particular phenomenon within the interaction of the preambles in a multimodal environment that allows simultaneous interaction through video, voice and text-chat. The first study (Artículo I) shows how participants solve jointly the issue of availability in a technological environment where being online is not necessarily understood as being available for communicating. The second study (Artículo II) focuses on the beginning of the audiovisual interaction; in particular on how participants check the right functioning of the audiovisual mode. The third study (Artículo III) explores silences within the interaction of the preamble. It shows that the length of gaps and lapses become a significant aspect the preambles and how they are connected to the issue of availability. Finally, the four study introduces the notion of modal alignment, an interactional phenomenon that systematically appears in the beginnings of the encounters, which seems to be used and understood as a strategy for the establishment of mutual availability and negotiation of the participation framework. As a whole, this research shows how participants, in order to establish mutual co-presence and availability, adapt to a particular technology in terms of participation management, deploying strategies and conveying successive actions which, as it is the case of the activation of their respective webcams, seem to be understood as predictable within the intricate process of establishing mutual availability before the meeting starts.

Estratégias interativas na educação online : estudo de caso nos fóruns do curso piloto de administração a distância do Sistema Universidade Aberta do Brasil em Maceió - AL / Interactive strategies in online education : case study of the boards of directors pilot course distance learning System Open University of Brazil in Maceió - ALLopes, Myllena Calheiros 14 December 2009 (has links)
This dissertation aims at the analysis of online interactions that influence the effectiveness of collaborative learning among participants of the forums on the environment and indexed-ProInfo Pilot Course Management Courses at the Open University of Brazil in Maceió-Alagoas. The methodology adopted to conduct the research was a qualitative type, in a case study approach and research techniques with systematic observation in the forums of course, the use of interviews and questionnaires to the working of the samples, and bibliographical studies based on Dillenbourg (1996), Mercado (2006, Silva (2006), Vygotsky (1979/1996), Yin (2005) among others. The type of sampling of the research was by events in the forums of the course, ie, the selection board was held in the presence of online collaborative interactions among students from four disciplines offered in the initial semesters of the course. For data analysis we selected four major samples, ie the selection of four forums with the presence of potential online collaborative interactions among students. Through analysis of the interview with the academic advisor of the four first semesters of the course was possible to rescue some clippings structuring the course, as functions of the major players in the forums of course, that is, the teacher and tutor students. For the analysis of questionnaires sent via conventional email and webmail e-Proinfo environment for teachers and students from selected samples of 11 teachers 0% returned the questionnaires, while 14% of the 85 students returned the survey instrument. For the analysis of selected forums, there are minimum collaborative online interactions between students, minimum collaborative online interactions of teachers to students and the presence of potential collaborative online interactions of students to teachers. Given the focus of the interactive process as a mechanism conducive to participation and the formalization of collaborative learning in data analysis was possible to identify possible indicators for the construction of collaborative learning in the forums of course investigated and possibly a contribution in courses offered in Education Online / A presente dissertação objetiva a análise de interações online que influenciam na efetivação da aprendizagem colaborativa entre os participantes dos fóruns indexados no ambiente e-ProInfo do Curso Piloto de Administração a Distância do Sistema Universidade Aberta do Brasil em Maceió-Alagoas.

Affordances d'un réseau social pour une formation en Français Langue Etrangère : pratiques discursives, modes de participation et présence sociale en ligne / Affordances in a social network for the purpose of a French as a Foreign Language course : discursive practices, means of participation and social presence onlineGrassin, Jean-Francois 06 November 2015 (has links)
This research aims at studying online interactions in a social network that is specific to teaching and learning French as a Foreign Language (FFL). It questions the way the virtual environment incorporates with the training device so to provide new contexts of interactions and language learning. The data used for this research belong to an academic and language learning context which enabled an ecological analysis of the uses.Furthermore a discourse analysis from various participants was undertaken to highlight their impressions of the device, the noticed affordances and their appropriation with the online environment. This study contributes at elaborating useful tools for the analysis of participation and a better understanding of social interactions in the case of a mediated communication in a pedagogical context. The analyses are based on (1) participative activities, their conversational and enunciative format, (2) the various participation modes and relationnal social commitment that flourishes in a socio-pedagogical network and (3) the spatial and attentionnal features that are specific to a virtual learning environment. The study shows that there are few uses of the socio-pedagogical network, and the various ones that have been noticed did not benefit from the network’s wide access, conversational and social design. As a certain number of affordances have been noted by the participants, few of them were used in the case of our study. Considering those limited uses, the analysis tries to spot the restraints and obstacles to these changing practices by taking into account the participant’s discourse and suggested activities. From this observation, the research suggests didactical guidelines that include this social and relational challenge - and to consider this socio-pedagogical network as an environment which mediates social activities and digital litteracy.
