The Brazilian Communist Party, since its inception in 1922, understood that to achieve the democracy would have to build a working peasant alliance, and this understanding was expanded from the late twenties, when the communists viewed the bourgeoisie as a participant in the alliance with the working class and peasantry. By this time, began to forge between the Communists in Brazil - in line with the agreement expressed by the Russian Communists - the achievement of national policy strategy-democratic revolutionary process which would be trampled in steps. When the split occurred in 1962 came the YNA, the party maintained the same political strategy during the seventies and eighties. It should be noted that although in their documents the party asserting strongly that the bourgeoisie is the class to be wiped out of history, often the same class was remembered by YNA as necessary to the process of democratization. Thus, it was due to this oscillatory, we understand that PCdoB could be called red pendulum. During the process of democratization in Brazil, whose background was the project of self-reform perpetrated by the military regime, the YNA was hard at work to keep the broad alliances that in the throes of the government of Gal. Figueiredo was known as the Democratic Alliance. Some time later, when the bourgeoisie is satisfied that its domination and direction for the whole nation was assured, tried to deepen their political conservative, and there is an alternative to YNA, not to their departure of that alliance. Therefore, we consider the YNA (we called pendulum red) remained the same political strategy of seeking alliances - even if short-term - with the bourgeoisie, once called national, even at the expense of subordinate communist during the term of the same political alliance with the bourgeoisie to the establishment of the National Constituent Assembly in 1987

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) presents with high morbidity and mortality despite advances in the understanding of its pathophysiology and treatment. Ventilatory therapy is based on the intention of injuring less, with high frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) being a protective method option. Prone position (PP) is an adjuvant therapy that enables homogenization of volume tidal (VT) distribution and promotes alveolar recruitment. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of prone position associated with HFOV and protective conventional mechanical ventilation (CMV) on oxygenation and lung inflammation, oxidative damage and histology, comparing it with the supine position in both ventilatory modes. Seventy five rabbits were submitted to tracheostomy and vascular accesses. ALI was induced by tracheal infusion of heated saline (30mL/kg, 38° C). The subjects were then ramdomized in five groups (n=15): 1) CG (Control): healthy animals in basal protective CMV; 2) MVSG: animals with ALI in protective CMV and supine position; 3) MVPG animals with ALI in protective CMV and prone position; 4) HFSG: animals with ALI in HFOV and supine position; 5) HFPG: animals with ALI in HFOV and prone position. After that, they were submitted to four hours of protective VMC (PRV mode, PEEP 10 cmH2O, VC 6ml/kg, Ti 0,5s, FR=40 rpm and FiO2 1) or HFOV (MAP 15 mmHg, FR 10 Hz, amplitude 22 and FiO2 1). The level of significance was 5%. After induction, the groups presented similar behaviors, with a decrease in the PaO2/FiO2 ratio and lung compliance, and an increase in oxygenation index (OI) and mean airway pressure (p > 0.05). At the end of experimental time, PaO2/FiO2 increased in the HFOV groups compared to the CMV groups (p < 0.05). There was a decrease in OI for HFOV groups compared to MVSG (p < 0.05), but MVPG did not differ from them (p > 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in polymorphonuclear cell counts in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in the groups with ALI. There was no difference between ALI groups regarding the TNF-alfa dosage in plasma and its gene expression in lung tissue. However, TNF-alpha measurement in BAL and in lung tissue was smaller, resembling control (p > 0.05). There was no difference in the oxidative damage assessed in the lung tissue between the groups (p > 0.05), nor between the lung regions. The histological damage score was lower in the HFOV groups, potentiated effect in the prone group when compared to the CMV groups (CG = HFPG < MVSG = MVPG), no difference in pulmonary regionalization. We conclude that, in the model of ALI induced by alveolar lavage with heated saline in rabbits: HFOV improves oxygenation if compared to CMV; PP in CMV attenuates lung inflammation, evaluated by TNF-alfa dosage in BAL and in lung tissue; ventilatory modes and positions don’t modify the oxidative stress whan evaluated by malondialdehyde method; HFOV improves histopathological lung lesion score, regardless of position, but HFOV and prone position association attenuates histopathological injury compared to protective CMV, either in the prone or supine positions. / FAPESP: 2010/06242-8

Large deformation shear and elongation rheology of polymers for electrospinning and other Industrial Processes / Rhéologie des polymères en grandes déformations de cisaillement et d'élongation : application à l'electrospinning et aux procédés industrielsAhirwal, Deepak 17 December 2013 (has links)
The goals of this thesis are the characterization of polymer melts using mainly non-linear shear and extensional rheological techniques. The fabrication of scaffolds with excellent physical and mechanical properties using solution electrospinning technology for tissue engineering applications and the development of melt electrospinning equipment to facilitate the fabrication of solvent free scaffolds. To achieve the first goal, we focused on the characterization of entangled polymer melts in the linear and nonlinear viscoelastic regimes. The influence of molecular weight, Mw, molecular weight distribution (MWD), long-chain branching (LCB) and addition of particles to the polymer matrix on polymer melt properties were investigated using shear and extensional rheological techniques. The resulting structure-property relationships were established using newly introduced mechanical parameters under large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) flow.

The present work at lines the importance of Power Quality (PQ) and it presents some of the many disturbances related to it and its implications. Such disturbances, as presented in an electrical system, can cause serious damages in the measurements, in the control of power utility equipments, as well as in sensitive equipments. The most frequent phenomena in the study of PQ had been emphasized, as well as its definitions. Once these phenomena are known, a computational algorithm was implemented, using the Windowed Fast Fourier Transform - WFFT as a tool to identify and classify these disturbances, considering electrical distribution system. In order to have the best situation for the test, a real electrical distribution system from CPFL (Companhia Paulista de Força e Luz) utility was simulated. Some cases of voltage sag, voltage swell and oscillatory transient were simulated, creating a data base to test and validate the computational algorithm implemented. This algorithm allows changing the window length as the sample rate. For the proposed study, 1 cycle and 1/2 cycle as window length was analyzed with sample rate of 7,68 kHz (initially used for obtaining the data base), and 0,769 kHz. It was observed that the window length studied did not influence significantly the proposed analysis concerning PQ. However, concerning the sample rate, it was observed a deterioration of the analysis with the 0,769 kHz rate.

Experimental and Computational Studies on Deflagration-to-Detonation Transition and its Effect on the Performance of PDEBhat, Abhishek R January 2014 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis is concerned with experimental and computational studies on pulse detonation engine (PDE) that has been envisioned as a new concept engine. These engines use the high pressure generated by detonation wave for propulsion. The cycle efficiency of PDE is either higher in comparison to conventional jet engines or at least has similar high performance with much greater simplicity in terms of components.
The first part of the work consists of an experimental study of the performance of PDE under choked flame and partial fill conditions. Detonations used in classical PDEs create conditions of Mach numbers of 4-6 and choked flames create conditions in which flame achieves Mach numbers near-half of detonation wave. While classical concepts on PDE's utilize deflagration-to-detonation transition and are more intensively studied, the working of PDE under choked regime has received inadequate attention in the literature and much remains to be explored. Most of the earlier studies claim transition to detonation as success in the working of the PDE and non-transition as failure. After exploring both these regimes, the current work brings out that impulse obtained from the wave traveling near the choked flame velocity conditions is comparable to detonation regime. This is consistent with the understanding from the literature that CJ detonation may not be the optimum condition for maximum specific impulse. The present study examines the details of working of PDE close to the choked regime for different experimental conditions, in comparison with other aspects of PDEs.
The study also examines transmission of fast flames from small diameter pipe into larger ducts. This approach in the smaller pipe for flame acceleration also leading to decrease in the time and length of transition process. The second part of the study aims at elucidating the features of deflagration-to-detonation transition with direct numerical simulation (DNS) accounting for and the choice of full chemistry and DNS is based on two features: (a) the induction time estimation at the conditions of varying high pressure and temperature behind the shock can only be obtained through the use of full chemistry, and (b) the complex effects of fine scale of turbulence that have sometimes been argued to influence the acceleration phase in the DDT cannot be captured otherwise. Turbulence in the early stages causes flame wrinkling and helps flame acceleration process. The study of flame propagation showed that the wrinkling of flame has major effect on the final transition phase as flame accelerates through the channel. Further, flame becomes corrugated prior to transition. This feature was investigated using non-uniform initial conditions. Under these conditions the pressure waves emanating from corrugated flame interact with the shock moving ahead and transition occurs in between the flame and the forward propagating shock wave.
The primary contributions of this thesis are: (a) Elucidating the phenomenology of choked flames, demonstrating that under partial fill conditions, the specific impulse can be superior to detonations and hence, allowing for the possibility of choked flames as a more appropriate choice for propulsive purposes instead of full detonations, (b) The use of smaller tube to enhance the flame acceleration and transition to detonation. The comparison with earlier experiments clearly shows the enhancements achieved using this method, and (c) The importance of the interaction between pressure waves emanating from the flame front with the shock wave which leads to formation of hot spots finally transitioning to detonation wave.

The research work done in this PhD has been caried out in the frame of an industrial convention (CIFRE) between the IMS laboratory and Airbus Operations S.A.S. The thesis deals with robust and early detection of oscillatory failures (OFC: Oscillatory Failure Case) in the Electrical Flight Control System. An oscillatory failure is an abnormal oscillation of a control surface due to component malfunction in control surface servoloops. OFCs have an influence on structural loads, aeroelasticity and controllability when located within the actuator bandwidth. The ability to detect these failures is very important because they have an impact on the structural design of the aircraft. Usual monitoring techniques cannot always guarantee to remain within an envelope with acceptable robustness. In this work, we develop a model based strategy to detect such failures with small amplitude at a very early stage. The monitoring strategy is based on dedicated non linear local filtering for on-line joint parameter/state estimation, allowing for model parameter variations during A/C flight. This strategy is associated with the same decision making rules as currently used for in-service Airbus A380. We propose a method for adjusting the tuning parameters so that various design goals and trades-off can be easily formulated and managed. The performance of the proposed fault detection scheme is measured by its detection delay, its propensity to issue false alarms and whether it permits a failure to go undetected. The proposed technique has been implemented and tested with success on Airbus test facilities including an A380 flight simulator.

Numerical Simulation of a High-speed Jet Injected in a Uniform Supersonic Crossflow Using Adaptively Redistributed GridsSeshadrinathan, Varun January 2017 (has links) (PDF)
Minimizing numerical dissipation without compromising the robust shock-capturing attributes remains an outstanding challenge in the design of numerical methods for high-speed compressible flows. The conflicting requirements of low and high numerical dissipation for accurate resolution of discontinuous and smooth flow features, respectively, are the principal reason behind this challenge. In this work we pursue a recently proposed novel strategy of combining adaptive mesh redistribution with conservative high-order shock-capturing finite-volume discretization methodology to overcome this challenge. In essence, we perform high-order finite-volume WENO (weighted essentially non oscillatory) reconstruction on a continuously moving grid the nodes of which are repositioned adaptively in such a way that maximum spatial resolution is achieved in regions associated with sharpest flow gradients. Moreover, to reduce computational expense, the finite-volume WENO discretization strategy is combined with the midpoint quadrature so that only one reconstruction along each intercool location is necessary.
To estimate a monotone upwind flux, a rotated HLLC (Harten-Lax-vanLeer-contact resolving) Riemann solver is employed at each intercool location with the state variables estimated from the high-order WENO reconstruction procedure. The effectiveness of this adaptive high-order discretization methodology is assessed on the well-known double Mach reflection test case for reconstruction orders ranging from five to eleven. We find that the resolution of the intricate flow features such as the wall-jet improves progressively with the reconstruction order, which is indicative of the reduced dissipation level of the adaptive high-order WENO discretization. The adaptive discretization methodology is applied to simulate a flow configuration consisting of a Mach 3 supersonic jet injected in a Mach 2 supersonic crossflow of similar ideal gas. It is found that the flow characteristics and especially features that are formed as a result of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability are strongly influenced by the reconstruction order. The influence of the jet inclination angle on the overall flow features is analyzed.

This thesis aimed to investigate in which extent environmental enrichment (EE) until or from an age at which cognitive decline is already apparent contributes to the maintenance of spatial memory observed in aged rats housed all their life in EE, and to study some neurobiological mechanisms likely underlying this preservation. We showed that housing in EE does not need to be maintained until the end of life to allow the preservation of cognitive function in aged rats. Moreover, late EE does not permit the recovery from already altered capabilities, but enables the preservation of some functions of subsequent alterations. The maintenance of spatial memory does not seem to be due to EE-related modification of sleep-wake cycle. But, exposure to EE induces a modification of hippocampal oscillatory activity, and could, by supporting local neuronal synchronization, promote information processing in more specialized networks. Finally, EE preserves the cholinergic system from age-related alteration in different cerebral areas, a mechanism that could participate to the maintenance of cognitive function in aged rats housed all their life in EE.
