How the teacher uses the forest : A study on how to use the forest as a learning tool in preschool

Sangby, Ulrika January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to find out if the teachers use the forest they have in their neighborhood and how they use it. It also aims to find out how important the teachers believe that the forest is, what opportunities exist in the forest and how the teachers feel that forest excursions are treated by the children. The method is structured interviews with seven teachers at two different preschools and two observations on one of the preschools. Both preschools are close to the forest but the outdoor courtyard differs significantly. The conclusion is that all educators prefer outdoor education. They also believe that they can visit the forest both unplanned and planned. The forest has a lot to offer and are viewed favorably among kids. However, the teachers do not use the forest as much as I thought, even though it is right next to preschools. Of the two preschools that I have examined, the results show that one of them has planned forest day one day a week.

Utomhuspedagogik : En undersökning om pedagogers inställning till utomhuspedagogik i förskolan / Outdoor education : A survey of teachers' attitudes to outdoor education in preschool

Sundberg, Jessica January 2014 (has links)
This is a study where the purpose was to investigate whether preschool teachers have a positive or negative attitude to outdoor education. Their view of outdoors education is also treated. The methods used were questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The survey was sent to all preschool teachers in three municipalities and on a social network. The interviews were conducted at a preschool, which had a form of outdoor profile. The survey shows that preschool teachers mostly have a positive attitude towards outdoor education but that there are also negative connections to it. They use both the material found in nature and takes the finished materials outside. My conclusion is that many see outdoor education as something positive, but it is still not many who consider themselves to use it in the preschool.

The schoolyard as an outdoor classroom : a case study of Ladysmith Elementary School

Lezotte, Carol Lynn January 1994 (has links)
The mission of this creative project was to naturalize a school site for the purposes of environmental education. The naturalization process can either take the form of landscape/ecosystem restoration or natural landscaping. Utilizing the Ladysmith Elementary School as a case study, this creative project dealt with both forms of the naturalization process. The entire school site was natural landscaped and a portion of the school grounds was devoted to the restoration of a forest and wetland ecosystem. This area where ecosystems are to be recreated will serve as an environmental learning laboratory for the school. The topics reviewed for this project ecology, naturalization, landscape restoration, environmental education, outdoor education, and ecosystems. The product of this creative project was a master plan which included site inventory and analysis. / Department of Landscape Architecture

Outdoor Mathematics : What Challenges and Opportunities Do Research Present on Outdoor Mathematics?

Karlsson, Caroline January 2014 (has links)
This systematic literature review compiles research on the topic "outside mathematics". The collection of data has been made through searches within the database ERIC (Ebsco) for peer-reviewed articles. The articles have been analyzed and the results of the study have given a clearer insight on outdoor mathematics, but also about outdoor education. What recurs is the connection between mathematics and students' daily lives, which students need to understand these linkages to be developed in mathematics. The study has shown the importance of student participation, problem solving, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of outdoor mathematics. The conclusion is that the understanding of the connections between mathematics teaching and everyday life is important, practical outdoor mathematics should occur more frequently in schools, and that the variation of teaching is appreciated.
