Contribuições ao estudo da gestão da inovação: proposição conceitual e estudo de casos / Contributions to the innovation management research: conceptual proposition and case studyJuliano Pavanelli Stefanovitz 10 June 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to analyze the adoption of innovation management practices and the challenges faced by companies which develop products to increase their innovative performance. It is studied the relation between organizational elements and the influence of contextual factors (company size, market segment and capital) on the characterization of the innovation management systems and on the obstacles to innovation faced by each company. The theme selection is justified because the management processes that contribute to the innovative performance remains not all known and due to the lack of empirical researches analyzing the reality of proposed practices in organizations, especially in Brazil. As conceptual basis for this investigation, it is proposed a systemic model for innovation management, which integrates contributions for several research fields in three dimensions: processes, organizational context and resources. This construct supports an exploratory qualitative research implemented using multiple study case method. In this study, it is investigated the innovation systems of four companies with relevant product development activities in Brazil. Initially, each company is analyzed individually with focus on the characterization of its innovation system and mains innovation challenges. After that, a comparative analysis is proposed to bring deeper understanding of the collected variables with reference to the exiting literature and the integrated model. More than the proposition of relationships between the innovation management elements present in the model, this research brings contributions related to the mechanisms which influence the innovation management practices adoption by companies in Brazil and the configuration of intra-organizational barriers faced by these companies to manage and improve their innovation process.

As the main goal, this paper looks into the factors that guide the market success of the environmentally sustainable products innovation, using for such studies in multiple sectors in changing industry. The principal results shows that market knowledge (i), inter-functional collaboration (ii), directed learning to innovation (iii) and technological mastery (iv) are the mechanisms that impel the success on ecologically correct products innovation. Still, in view of relevance of market knowledge, developed final studies with costumers showed that there is knowledge about the green product and process features available in market by distinct organizations, as well as the perception of values in green products increases the availability of paying in the moment of buying, due to functionality and realized abstractions tend to reduce some risks associated to it. Also, it was seen that demographical variables, as gender, age and profit, interfere positively on seen quality and consequently purchasing intention to environmentally sustainable products. At last, created a proposition of relationship system to factors and to variables that guide the success of green product innovation market. Before the established model, it interferes companies tend or may organize their practices of green innovation from investments connected to people, labs, equipments and technological research; Also the vision and the ambition from leaderships were fundamental to the unchain of important inter-relations between the factors market knowledge (i), inter-functional collaboration (ii), directed learning to innovation (iii).

L'impact des stratégies inter-organisationnelles sur l'innovation produit et sur la performance marché de l'innovation produit : le cas de l'industrie des jeux vidéo / The impact of inter-organizational strategies on the product innovation and on the market performance of product innovation : the case of the video game industryHamouti, Rhizlane 02 December 2014 (has links)
This thesis examines the typologies of inter-organizational strategies that firms can adopt to develop product innovation. It also highlights the implications of these strategies on the product innovation and on the market performance of these innovations. From a theoretical point of view, this research is based on (1) the analysis framework for the inter-organizational strategies, emphasizing the concepts of individual strategy, cooperation with non-competitors and co-opetition, as well as on (2) the product innovation, in the view of radical and incremental innovation concepts. The field of this research is the video game sector. The methodology is mixed. A qualitative exploratory study, based on the analysis of thirty interviews conducted with key actors in the video game industry, allowed the identification of the inter-organizational strategies, used to develop radical and incremental products innovations and to develop a typology. A quantitative study tests the relationship between the inter-organizational strategies identified and product innovation (binary logistic regression), and the link between these strategies and the market performance of product innovation (multivariate linear regression and estimated means comparison). This thesis highlights three key findings : (1) the first result shows that coopetition is the most viable strategy for product innovation and for the market performance of radical and incremental product innovation; (2) the second result shows that the horizontal coopetition is the most viable strategy for the market performance of radical and incremental product innovation, compared with the vertical coopetition, (3) while the strategy of simultaneously horizontal and vertical coopetition will be the most viable for the market performance of radical and incremental product innovation, in comparison with the horizontal coopetition. Thus, this thesis shows that the market performance of product innovation varies with the strategy, the partner and the type of product innovation (radical or incremental). In addition, the thesis highlights that, although coopetition is considered a high-risk strategy, risk is associated with a high level of performance.

Product innovation and knowledge protection in the relationship between automotive first-tier suppliers and OEMs in China : an empirical investigationHiebaum, Thomas January 2013 (has links)
The entry of China into the globalized world and onto the stage of the global automarket has presented auto manufacturers with the largest ever market opportunity. While global competitive forces drive firms to develop product innovation through their global supply chains, the approach of global auto manufacturers and their first tier suppliers has been to bring existing technology into China. Only recently has the supply chain in China become integrated into the global product innovation cycle. While innovations generated by supply channel relationships, as opposed to individual partners, are playing an increasingly important role in the success of all supply chain partners, there has been limited research in the literature on how supply chain relationships cultivate the process of such innovation generation, particularly in China. Correspondingly, this study explores how multinational suppliers can develop adaptive product innovation in order to create a sustainable competitive advantage in China and how the protection of their knowledge helps them sustain it. Drawing on the knowledge-based view and transaction cost economics, and integrating those with behavioural governance and the institution-based view this study identifies drivers of product innovation for MNC suppliers in their relationships with Chinese OEMs, investigates the influence of supplier involvement and knowledge protection on supplier product innovation and examines the outcomes in the specific context of the Chinese automotive industry from the first-tier supplier perspective. Survey results of 170 multinational automobile suppliers in China indicate support for most of the hypotheses. Specifically, knowledge protection is found to have an impact on product innovation in the context of the auto industry in China. Supplier involvement in co-design and co-development with an automotive OEM customer has an inverted U-shaped relationship with product innovation. Furthermore, trust and technological uncertainty are found to drive greater product innovation. In addition, the institutional environment moderates the effect of product innovation on performance. Overall, this study enhances the understanding of how MNC suppliers can acquire local knowledge, develop products adapted to the local market requirements and foster product innovation while retaining their knowledge and know-how and minimizing negative effects of spill-overs to the local competition in the automotive industry in China.

Mladí lidé a alkohol: charakteristika a segmentace trhu / Segmentation of Generation Y in the consumption of alcoholic beveragesAdámková, Lenka January 2012 (has links)
The main objective of the thesis was to divide the Generation Y, a group of young people between 18 and 32 years, into segments depending on the types of alcoholic beverages consumed. Subsequently the aim was to recommend for these segments suitable product innovation for the Czech market of alcoholic beverages. By analyzing secondary data in MML-TGI there were identified four segments with usage of factor and cluster analysis. The segments are: Rather...something lighter, Beer and shots, Liquorer and Wine and sweeter drinks. Then a structured questionnaire was created by using qualitative research (group discussions with the specified age group) and afterwards used for quantitative research. Data gained in the research was divided into equal segments which were identified in MML-TGI data and then there were recommended suitable product innovations in the branch of alcoholic beverages based on the preferences of the respondents identified in the research.

Sustainability Risk Management in Product Development Companies - Motivating ChangeSchulte, Jesko January 2019 (has links)
Both the ecological and social system are systematically degrading, resulting in decreasing capacities to support human civilization. Product development and manufacturing companies play a key role in driving society’s transition towards a sustainable path. Besides moral arguments, the motivation for companies can be expressed as a matter of smart risk management, i.e. avoiding threats and exploiting opportunities. Such sustainability risks can be related to, for example, brand and reputation, legislative change, or attracting top-talented employees. But, more importantly, it is about understanding changes that are inevitable on markets to come. Based on Maxwell’s interactive qualitative research approach and following the structure of the Design Research Methodology, this thesis aims to contribute (i) to knowledge by increasing the conceptual understanding of what sustainability risks are; and (ii) to practice by researching decision-support for how sustainability risks can be managed in a product development company context. The first study reviewed existing literature and identified characteristics of sustainability risks, which make them particularly difficult to manage. A following exploratory and descriptive study investigated companies’ current risk management practices and preconditions for sustainability integration. It showed that the effects of uncertainty from the sustainability transition need to be identified, assessed, and managed in relation to how they can affect objectives anchored in both internal and external stakeholder value creation. In parallel, the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development was applied as a lens to understand the implications of the sustainability transition for company risk management. This resulted in a new definition, stating that sustainability risks are threats and opportunities that are due to an organization’s contribution or counteraction to society’s transition towards strategic sustainable development. A questionnaire study then investigated some case companies’ challenges and preconditions to build sustainability capabilities. Finally, a workshop method is proposed that aims to support design teams in early sustainable product development. Future research will leverage on the findings to develop and test decision support for how product development companies can manage sustainability risks on different organizational levels in practice to increase competitiveness, while taking leadership in the transition towards a sustainable society.

Organisational Performance and Innovation in the Context of a Total Quality Management Philosophy: An Empirical InvestigationAugusto, Mário Gomes, Lisboa, João Veríssimo, Yasin, Mahmoud M. 01 January 2014 (has links)
The literature emphasises the need to integrate innovation initiatives under the umbrella of the total quality management (TQM) philosophy. Such integration is instrumental towards achieving and sustaining a superior organisational performance. Using a sample of 229 Portuguese manufacturing organisations, factor and regression analyses procedures were used to assess the impact on organisational performance of innovation for small and large organisations in the Portuguese TQM business context. The results of this study point to the significance of the size of the organisation, and product and process innovations for organisational performance. Organisational innovation was not found to have a significant impact on organisational performance. These results might be attributed to specific ownership, which is associated with process and product innovation. Based on the results of this study, it is concluded that small organisations might want to consider directing their innovation investments towards management aspects such as processes and products. In this context, top-down organisational innovation might take more time and effort.

Impact of Internal Innovation on Firm performance with moderating role of collaborative innovation.Arshad, Haris, Ullah, Zeeshan January 2022 (has links)
Purpose: The study primarily aims to examine the effect of internal innovation in determining the firm performance for the textile industry of Pakistan by testing the research framework of innovation diffusion theory. Additionally, the study also explores the moderating role of collaborative innovation in explaining the relationship between internal innovation and a firm’s performance in the target population. Methodology: The study used a self-administrative questionnaire-based survey technique to collect data from the participants. Due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation globally, the data was collected online using the Convenience sampling approach. The outcome variable of the study was firm performance, while the explanatory variable is internal innovation, which is measured by product and process innovation. Additionally, collaborative innovation was used as the moderating variable of the study. The population of the study was the textile sector of Pakistan. The unit of analysis was managerial employees (at all levels) working in the textile industry of Pakistan. The online questionnaire was shared with approximately, 100 target people successfully and completely provided their unbiased responses using online means. The researchers analyzed the collected data using SPSS software. The analysis techniques include descriptive statistics, correlation, reliability analysis (using Cronbach alpha), convergent reliability & validity (using outer loadings, composite reliability, and average variance extracted), VIF, and regression for testing the hypotheses. Findings: The study found that product innovation and process innovation both serve as critical drivers for the firm performance in the textile industry of Pakistan. Moreover, collaborative innovation plays a complementary role as the significant moderator between the internal innovation process and the firm’s performance in the target population. The results concluded the acceptance and support of the required hypothesis of the study, including the acceptance of innovation diffusion theory for the textile industry of Pakistan, and finally the consistency of results with existing literature. Implications: Contribution of Study: Existing literature lacks to provide the mechanism and understanding that how internal innovation (product innovation and process innovation) collaborative innovation shapes the effective and efficient performance of the firms in the textile industry of Pakistan. Therefore, the lack of research work and clarity in the existing literature makes this study meaningful. Moreover, the contributions of the study are multifaceted as the first time this study is being conducted in an emerging economy Pakistan. Novelty: The findings of the study add the literature for the domain of innovation and performance, especially, in the case of the textile sector of Pakistan with the partially moderating impact of collaborative innovation. The study also contributes towards the acceptance of innovation diffusion theory in the textile industry of Pakistan. Limitations & Recommendations: The findings of the study apply to the Textile sector only due to the specific nature of their operations. The prospective researchers in this domain can consider further dimensions of innovations to examine their impact on a firm’s performance. Additionally, innovation performance can also be considered for future studies. Furthermore, cross-sector analysis can be performed for understanding how innovation works in different sectors.
