Idem ius omnibus sed ignoratia legis non excusat (Stejné právo pro všechny, ale neznalost zákonů neomlouvá) / The law is the same for all but ignorance of law is no excuse

Černý, Martin January 2020 (has links)
The law is the same for all but ignorance of law is no excuse. Abstract: This work discusses the comprehensibility and accessibility of law by the general public. Its goal is to analyse the barriers that make it difficult for the public to understand law. The instability and bad quality of statutes are identified as the key issues of law-making. The main reason for both of these problems is the motivation of politicians to present themselves as active legislators and gain publicity. The law publication is currently undergoing a transformation in the Czech Republic. This is due to the implementation of the e-Collection and e-Legislation. A great improvement will be achieved by the publication of consolidated texts. A personalized dissemination of legal information could be one of the future steps. The application of law by the Czech judiciary is of a very high standard but suffers from long proceedings. I confronted the theoretical conclusions with available research. I also tested selected government solutions. The Czech Republic is investing in digitalization, but the results are still unsatisfactory due to the poor quality of the services. In the last part of my work I suggested a solution based on the parallel between legal systems and software applications. My proposition is to divide law into three...

We Are Building Histories: Game Studies and Rhetorical Metrics

Alisha Dianne Karabinus (9120560) 05 August 2020 (has links)

What is game studies? What separates that inter/disciplinary space from a larger notion of games research—and who decides? In recent years, scientometric research within game studies has increased as scholars have attempted to more concretely define a field which has been volatile since its formal origins in the early 2000s. But a recent controversy between scientometrics and gender studies (Lykke, 2018) has revealed a potential shortfall with relying on metric studies alone. Metrics can reveal which theories, themes, and scholars have been most privileged within a discipline, but only within predetermined boundaries, a limitation in a multi-disciplinary field which begs the question of who gets to determine those boundaries. Games research draws from many fields, from media studies to literature to computer science and psychology, but unless that work makes it into game studies journals, it will never be included within a metric analysis of game studies. In many fields, these boundaries may arise organically to create disciplinary lines. In game studies, however, anecdotal evidence indicates such boundaries have historically excluded work grounded in feminist, queer, and critical race theories. This project therefore employs a mixed methods approach to metrics research that allows for a broader view of not just game studies, but games research. This mixed methods approach, which I call rhetorical metrics, utilizes contextualized metric data to create a rhetorical approach to the scientometric measurement of a field, thereby providing empirical data underscoring anecdotal knowledge of exclusions in game studies.

In this project, I build on previous metric analyses of game studies by thickening data with additional perspectives. This data includes gender identity information, keyword clusters on themes beyond traditional game studies, such as information on race or queerness in games, and data on scholars who publish inside and outside of game studies journals. By revealing where different types of scholarship on games appear, and where certain knowledges are privileged (or not), this form of expanded, intersectional metric analysis allows for a more inclusive view of games studies than current studies provide, and results in a flexible research methodology that can be similarly applied to other inter- and multidisciplinary fields.

Learning Analytics in Relation to Open Access to Research Data in Peru. An Interdisciplinary Comparison

Biernacka, Katarzyna, Huaroto, Libio 01 October 2020 (has links)
Conferencia realizada en el marco de la "III Conferencia Latinoamericana de Analíticas de Aprendizaje LALA2020 Project", del 1 al 2 de Octubre de 2020 en Cuenca, Ecuador. / The aim of this paper is to investigate the perceptions of learning analytics re-searchers in Peru about the barriers to publication of their research data. A review of the relevant legislation was done. Semi-structured interviews were used as a research method, the focus being on the presumed conflict between the publica-tion of research data and the protection of personal data. The results show a range of individual factors that influence the behaviour of scientists in relation to the publication of research data, emphasizing the barriers related to data protection in different disciplines.

Gaining Attention and Encouraging a Response: My Criteria for Successful Graphic Design.

Jenkins, Kerry Scott 15 December 2007 (has links) (PDF)
As a graphic designer, my goal is to clearly express my clients' message to their intended audience. Based on the diversity of my clients and their products and services, finding a consistent style in my projects might be difficult, although there are usually some typical traits. With examples of my work and dialogue from leaders in the graphic design industry, I intend to point out a common thread that runs through all successful design projects, regardless of the projects' designer, era, or individual design elements (e.g., typography, copywriting, color, layout, imagery). Success comes from graphic design's ability to gain attention and encourage a response.

3D printed elastic mould granulation

Okeyo, Clint, Chowdhury, D.F., Cheung, K., Rahmanian, Nejat 04 December 2018 (has links)
Yes / In the pharmaceutical industry, enhanced process understanding resulting in superior control of product attributes, has the potential to save up to 20% of process engineering and product development costs during drug development. With the aim of achieving enhanced process understating, a novel approach for granulation of fine powders is presented. First, a mould with the desired particle shape and size is created using 3D printing followed by casting using elastomeric material. The formulation is prepared through wet massing and tested as a thin film on flat elastomeric membranes. The thin film itself can be a product but it also gives a good indication of coating performance before coating the patterned elastic membrane with the formulation i.e., 3D printed elastic mould granulation. Results show that following granulation and drying, granules of controlled size and shape (e.g. cubic and 500 μm), strength, friability and flowability can be formed. The method presented may allow for more robust process development in particle engineering. / Research Development Fund Publication Prize Award winner, December 2018.
