Silva, Elias Adriano Nogueira da 20 May 2013 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-06-02T19:06:08Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 5466.pdf: 2178593 bytes, checksum: a3777aeb3757d619d7087258728cdde6 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-05-20 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / Cloud Computing has potential to revolutionize way that systems are developed and marketed. Among several research gaps related to this new model is the Lock-In. The Lock-In is the difficulty on migrating data and applications from a cloud platform to another. The lack of standardization, as well as other reasons, are causing the problem. This work presents a model-driven(MDE) approach for portability of applications between cloud platforms. With MDE software engineers can work at a high level of abstraction freeing themselves from repetitive tasks related to software implementation and specific details of cloud platforms. Besides portability, MDE brings additional benefits related to traditional software development approaches. The approach presented in this work, basically consists of a DSL and a set of automated transformations for two known cloud platforms Google App Engine and Microsoft Azure. The approach allows the development of cloud applications on a high abstraction level, showing that despite being simple, the elements of the approach are enough to generate many cloud applications, as well as facilitates its development. The evaluation confirms the benefits provided by MDE technologies.

Blom, Tryggve January 2012 (has links)

Dib, Djawida 07 July 2014 (has links)
Cloud computing is an emerging paradigm revolutionizing the use and marketing of information technology. As the number of cloud users and providers grows, the socio-economical impact of cloud solutions and particularly PaaS (platform as a service) solutions is becoming increasingly critical. The main objective of PaaS providers is to generate the maximum profit from the services they provide. This requires them to face a number of challenges such as efficiently managing the underlying resources and satisfying the SLAs of the hosted applications. This thesis considers a cloud-bursting PaaS environment where the PaaS provider owns a limited number of private resources and is able to rent public cloud resources, when needed. This environment enables the PaaS provider to have full control over services hosted on the private cloud and to take advantage of public clouds for managing peak periods. In this context, we propose a profit-efficient solution for managing the cloud-bursting PaaS system under SLA constraints. We define a profit optimization policy that, after each client request, evaluates the cost of hosting the application using public and private resources and chooses the option that generates the highest profit. During peak periods the optimization policy considers two more options. The first option is to take some resources from running applications, taking into account the payment of penalties if their promised quality of service is affected. The second option is to wait until private resources become available, taking into account the payment of penalties if the promised quality of service of the new application is affected. Furthermore we designed and implemented an open cloud-bursting PaaS system, called Meryn, which integrates the proposed optimization policy and provides support for batch and MapReduce applications. The results of our evaluation show the effectiveness of our approach in optimizing the provider profit. Indeed, compared to a basic approach, our approach provides up to 11.59% and 9.02% more provider profit in, respectively, simulations and experiments.

Vítek, Daniel January 2010 (has links)
This thesis discusses the new way of delivering IT services over the Internet widely known as cloud computing. In its opening part, cloud computing is put into a historical context of the evolution of enterprise computing, and the dominant issues the IT department faces today are mentioned. Further, the paper deals with several components that make up the architecture of cloud computing and reviews the benefits and drawbacks an enterprise can have while it adopts this new model. One of the primary aims of this thesis is to identify the impact of the technology trends on cloud computing. The thesis brings together four major computing trends, namely virtualization, multi-tenant architecture, service-oriented architecture and grid computing. Another aim is to focus on two trends related to IT infrastructure that will lead to fundamental changes in IT industry. The first of them is the emergence of extremely large-scale data centers at low cost locations, which can serve tremendous amount of customers and achieve considerable economies of scale. The second trend this paper points out is the shift from multi-purpose all-in-one computers into a wide range of mobile devices dedicated to a specific user's needs. The last aim of this thesis is to clarify the economic impact of cloud computing in terms of costs and changes in business models. The thesis concludes by evaluating the current adoption and predicting the future trend of cloud computing.

Adapt or die trying : En flerfallsstudie om hur hållbarhet påverkar beslutsfattande i styrelser. / Adapt or die trying : A multiple case study on factors affecting the integration of sustainability withinthe board’s decision making process.

Erlandsson, John, Wennborg, Anton January 2021 (has links)
For new business venture capital is often an attractive financing alternative and therefor constitutes a significant role as an enabler for these businesses. The question is how venture capital firms in their risk assessment evaluate these startups. Purpose: This study aims to contribute to an increased understanding of venture capital firms risk assessment. Furthermore, the purpose of this study is to examine how venture capital firms evaluate startups with product as a service in their risk assessment. Completion: This study is of a qualitative structure with an abductive approach that builds on four interviews from four different venture capital firms. The interviewees all work in firms that invest venture capital in startups. They have been chosen to gain insight in the riskassessment of venture capital firms. Value drivers and financial barriers related to PaaS have been applied to the risk assessment that the interviewees have described. Conclusion: The paper shows that venture capital firms does not have a specific riskassessment for companies with a higher grade of sustainability, instead they are assessed on the same basis as traditional business models. PST can however, with its value drivers and financial barriers, display both strengths and weaknesses in the risk assessment conducted by venture capital firms.
