Vibration and Aeroelasticity of Advanced Aircraft Wings Modeled as Thin-Walled Beams--Dynamics, Stability and Control

Qin, Zhanming 17 October 2001 (has links)
Based on a refined analytical anisotropic thin-walled beam model, aeroelastic instability, dynamic aeroelastic response, active/passive aeroelastic control of advanced aircraft wings modeled as thin-walled beams are systematically addressed. The refined thin-walled beam model is based on an existing framework of the thin-walled beam model and a couple of non-classical effects that are usually also important are incorporated and the model herein developed is validated against the available experimental, Finite Element Anaylsis (FEA), Dynamic Finite Element (DFE), and other analytical predictions. The concept of indicial functions is used to develop unsteady aerodynamic model, which broadly encompasses the cases of incompressible, compressible subsonic, compressible supersonic and hypersonic flows. State-space conversion of the indicial function based unsteady aerodynamic model is also developed. Based on the piezoelectric material technology, a worst case control strategy based on the minimax theory towards the control of aeroelastic systems is further developed. Shunt damping within the aeroelastic tailoring environment is also investigated. The major part of this dissertation is organized in the form of self-contained chapters, each of which corresponds to a paper that has been or will be submitted to a journal for publication. In order to fullfil the requirement of having a continuous presentation of the topics, each chapter starts with the purely structural models and is gradually integrated with the involved interactive field disciplines. / Ph.

Preynas, Melanie 05 October 2012 (has links)
In order to achieve long pulse operation with a tokamak, additional heating and current drive systems are necessary. High frequency antennas, which deliver several megawatts of power to the plasma, are currently used in several tokamaks. Moreover, a good control of the coupling of the wave launched by the antenna to the edge plasma is required to optimize the efficiency of heating and current drive LH systems. However, non-linear effects which depend on the level of injected power in the plasma strongly damage the coupling of the LH wave at particular edge parameters (density and temperature profiles). Results presented in the manuscript deal with the study of the linear and non-linear coupling of the LH wave to the plasma. In the framework of the commissioning of the Passive Active Multijunction antenna in 2009 on the Tore Supra tokamak aiming at validating the LH system suggested for ITER, the characterisation of its coupling properties was realized from low power experiments. The experimental results, which are compared with the linear coupling code ALOHA, have valided the theoretical predictions of good coupling at edge plasma density around the cut-off density. Besides, the ponderomotive effect is clearly identified as responsible for the deterioration in the coupling of the wave, which is measured under particular edge plasma conditions. A theoretical model combining the coupling of the LH wave with the ponderomotive force is suggested to explain the experimental observations.

Vaišvila, Mindaugas 06 September 2013 (has links)
2. Atskleisti laisvalaikio praleidimo ypatumus ir būdus studentų tarpe. 3. Ištirti Lietuvos sporto universiteto Sportinės rekreacijos ir turizmo programos studentų laisvalaikio praleidimo ypatumus. Darbo objektas: Sportinės rekreacijos ir turizmo programos studentų laisvalaikis. Tyrimo metodai: Mokslinės literatūros analizė, anketinė apklausa, aprašomoji statinė analizė. Pagrindinės išvados: Remiantis tyrimo duomenimis, galima daryti išvadą, kad Lietuvos sporto universiteto, Sportinės reakreacijos ir turizmo... To describe the main structures of time, the conception of leisure time and the links of leisure with recreation. 2. To reveal features of spending leisure time among students. 3. To survey the features of spending leisure of students of sport recreation and tourism program of Lithuanian sport university. Job object: Leisure of the students of sport recreation and tourism. Survey methods: literary analysis, analysis of data collection, questionnaire and descriptive statistics. According to the research, it can be concluded that the Lithuanian University of Sport, Sport recreation and tourism specialty students understands leisure as time, which can be used for yourself or as recreation - time for spiritual regeneration and relaxation. It was found that the majority of the surveyed students have enough free time, appointed for leisure and most of the time only for themselves. The main factors influencing students' leisure activities, namely: personal interests and financial / economic situation. It can be concluded that the students' desires for leisure activities in a variety of prevents to choose limited financial resources, because the majority of respondents give too little money for productive leisure. Police authorities : citizenship and accountability

Millen, Floyd January 2009 (has links)
This thesis explores the role and effectiveness of police authorities in connecting policing and the citizen and in increasing the citizen's involvement in the delivery of their policing service. The thesis examines: police authorities in the context of citizenship and in relation to accountability; and whether the operational function of law enforcement, the original charge of Keeping the Kings Peace and policing by consent - can work homogenously within a system characterised by both active and passive citizenry. Individual chapters discuss whether police authorities have sufficient power, whether the home secretary and chief constable have too much power, and the propensity of police authorities to demand answers and call the police service to account. As history shows, it is possible to have a police service carrying out policing functions in the absence of a police authority performing a scrutiny function; but it would be impossible to have a police authority without a police service. Therefore, the thesis argues that the added value, the relevance and the effectiveness of police authorities needs to be unambiguous.

Simulation numérique de jets liquides cisaillés par une phase rapide : dynamique de battement à grande échelle et intéraction avec les structures tourbillonnaires / Numerical simulation of liquid jets sheared by a high-speed stream : flapping dynamics and interaction with vortical structures

Odier, Nicolas 18 December 2014 (has links)
Fuel injection in an aircraft engine or in a rocket engine involves a liquid jet sheared by a high-velocity gas. The liquid jet can display, under some specific conditions, a flapping motion. This flapping motion, the basic mechanisms of which are still poorly understood, can significantly impact the combustion process. We perform in this work a numerical study of liquid jets interacting with a high-speed stream and focus on the interactions between the vortical structures in this high-speed stream and the liquid jet. A plane liquid jet surrounded by two high-speed streams is first analysed. The mechanisms leading to the flapping motion are studied, as well as the passive control of this instability. A liquid coaxial jet, sheared by an annular high speed stream, is next analysed. The mechanisms leading to the flapping motion are also analysed, as well as passive and active strategies for controlling this instability. Finally, we perform simulations of an experimental set-up studied at LEGI, focusing on the flow inside the nozzle.
