Cheminer à deux dans l'amour électif : quelle spiritualité pour le couple après Vatican II ? / Walking together in free and mutual love : how to develop a renewed marital spirituality in the footsteps of Vatican II, and adapted to contemporary couples ?

Barth, Sylvie 15 March 2017 (has links)
Based on the partners’ choice for each other, their loving commitment and desire to start a family, the couple relationship, whether in formal marriage or not, has become for many of our contemporaries a real locus spiritualis, the seat and source of a spirituality. How to understand, from a Christian point of view, this new paradigm and foster it while the concepts associated with it are continuously evolving? Spirituality in Occidental history has a diverse and layered heritage: Greco-Roman dualism; a strong focus on the ‘sin of the flesh’; a modern quest for self-realisation and authenticity; and, although less known, an understanding of spirituality since Vatican II which is strongly incarnational, community-oriented and Trinitarian.Shaping a model of conjugal life in between intimate love and institutional marriage, couples in the 1930’s start referring to a Catholic “marital spirituality” which will be fully acknowledged only by Gaudium et Spes. Later generations will realize that spirituality, understood in a broad sense, helps couples to become resilient – an insight which will be at the basis of multi-disciplinary research. But how to conceive in today’s pluralistic society of a spirituality of couple life, or ‘co-elective spirituality’, that at the same time enhances the flourishing of contemporary couples and yet does not forsake its Christian frame of reference? The universal “law of giving” and the concepts of “promise” and “covenant” which equip for a “shared intimacy” appear to be central concepts which both help to shape the communion of ‘elective couples’ and lend themselves to be lived in a specifically Christian way. Here a pneumatology takes shape which is to be understood as a “circulation of gifts”. Helping fruitful love to flourish thus contributes not only to humanizing society but also to raise awareness for global challenges.

A new case for female elders : an analytical reformed-evangelical approach

Hübner, Jamin Andrew 11 1900 (has links)
This study is the product of research in the field of systematic theology, particularly the subject of women in ministry. The goal was to provide, given the scope and limits of the study, the most persuasive case for women elders (or “pastors”) from a Reformed-Evangelical approach to date. The primary means of accomplishing this goal is by making an analytically constructed argument that is both exegetically and theologically sound. The introduction outlines the study’s basic objectives, structure, research methods, assumptions, and overall direction. Two gives a detailed literature review of major publications on the subject of women ministry in order to track the movement of the debate. Three explores theological methods that addresses theological loci, the role of hermeneutics, and the theological-analytical structure and content of Reformed-Evangelical arguments for women elders. Chapter Four explores conceptual framework, which frames the specific, contemporary debate over women elders in Reformed-Evangelical circles, and then addresses the insights and challenges of feminist theology and Roman Catholic theology. The heart of the study is captured in three main chapters that present a case for women elders in the church. The first argument provides a detailed examination of the “prohibition passages” in the New Testament and concludes that they do not prohibit women from being elders. The second argument provides a sweeping account of the proclamation of the gospel in New Testament theology, and affirms that anti-women-elder readings and attitudes simply do not conform to the actions, attitudes, and teachings of the early church regarding gender and gospel-proclamation. Finally, the third section provides three additional arguments in favor of women elders. The first argument addresses the nature of hermeneutics and application of specific interpretations, the second addresses the nature of marriage and its relationship to church leadership, and the third deals with functions of women in NT ministry. The research concludes with Chapter Eight, which summarizes the argument and introduces practical ramifications if the study’s premises and conclusions are true. / Philosophy and Systematic Theology / D. No. of bitstreams: 1 Valeia Vieira de Souza.pdf: 3033641 bytes, checksum: 4011499d2ae118034b67c01e11c28af7 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-02-23 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The Baptist context is predominantly marked by male leaders and for women only places and behaviors socially established, such as home care, maternity, submission, among other characteristics that emphasize the gender hierarchy. Even before the economic development and occupation that women are gaining in the public space, the church, mainly Baptist churches, remain founded on foundations that exalt male power at the expense of place that should be occupied by women, or where they decide to act. If they decide to operate in a predominantly male place, they will have to deal with the deconstruction of a thought socially permeated with male domination and the arduous construction of a thought aimed at gender equality. The object of this research is the female pastoral ministry in the Baptist Brazilian context. The text analyzes the discourse of Pastors Baptists of São Paulo and the speech of the Order of the leaders of Baptist Pastors of São Paulo (OPBB-SP) about the female pastoral ministry and not the membership of women in OPBB-SP. The importance of this work is to demonstrate the relationship of the micro power existing between shepherds and shepherdesses and concomitant inequalities within the context Baptist in relation to pastoral ministry. This statement is configured by means of the analysis of semi-structured interviews I conducted research with seven shepherds of São Paulo, as well as three leaders of OPPB-SP. It is a qualitative research, in which were analyzed official documents of the church, as convention agendas, protocol, institutional sites, periodicals and unofficial documents found on social networks, blogs, online newspapers, etc. I can claim that the Baptists pastors are mobilizing to fulfill his calling, using transcendent arguments that prevent any person to challenge or doubt the pastoral call these women, but: “The wind goes were its pleasure takes it, and the sound of it comes to your ears, but you are unable to say where it comes from and where it goes; so it is with everyone whose birth is from the Spirit.”

The involvement of women in mission in the Lutheran Church in Southern Africa (LCSA)

Kainerugaba, Frank Odyek Godfrey January 2013 (has links)
The principle purpose of the study was to investigate the role of women in the mission and ministry of The Lutheran Church in Southern Africa (LCSA). The researcher raised the question of why women are viewed as inferior within the LCSA, and whether this is Biblically supported. I investigated the distinction between men and women with regard to the church culture, tradition, pastoral office, priesthood, and authority within the LCSA. As a general theoretical framework, I used two theories in church mission: (1) The unity of the Church and apostolic practice as propounded by Schenk in 1983. (2) Paradigm shifts in theology: mission as ministry by the whole people of God as propounded by Bosch in 1991. These theories explain the mission of proclaiming the Gospel of God as belonging to everyone (both male and female) as His servants in the Church. To obtain people’s views and interpretations of Scriptures, culture, church practice, and the social reality of women’s roles in the LCSA, focus-group and individual interviews were used to gather qualitative data from 525 respondents. The data was collected and analyzed using the descriptive qualitative research approach. Based on the research findings in Chapter 2 (pages 37-42), Chapter 6 (page140) presents proposals for the involvement of women in the LCSA. The findings show that participants were concerned about the topic and those women’s rights and voices are not yet acknowledged in many societies in Southern Africa. However, the scope of the study is limited to the LCSA, and its findings cannot be generalized. Valuable insights were gained into the church’s traditional construction of women’s roles in the LCSA, not allowing women to preach the Gospel and to administer the Sacraments in the Church mission work. From a missiological study perspective, the researcher recommended that women should be allowed to participate fully in the Church mission work. Therefore, the Involvement of Women in Mission in LCSA was an important dissertation research topic, affecting women in Southern Africa particularly, and potentially, in the African continent at large. / Dissertation (MA Theol)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Science of Religion and Missiology / unrestricted

A practical-theological evaluation of the contextualization of theological education by extention in Southern Africa : a Wesleyan perspective

Lo, James 11 1900 (has links)
The aim of this research project was to explore whether or not the TEE programme of The Wesleyan Church in Southern Africa is effectively contextualized to help churches to experience numerical increases in church attendance and in new congregations being started. Three aspects of contextualization were examined in relationship to The Wesley'.3-n Church's TEE programme: ( 1) Content, focusing upon the theme of "liberation"; ( 2) Methodology, focusing upon the theme of "conscientization"; and (3) Structures, focusing upon the theme of "involvement in context". At the outset of this research project, I hypothesized that The Wesleyan Church's TEE programme in Mozambique was being effectively contextualized, while the TEE programme in South Africa, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe was not. Data was collected by means of four different questionnaires, interviews, and observations made as a participant observer in different TEE classes. A letter was initially sent to 175 individuals who had been, or still were, still involved in the TEE programme of The Wesleyan Church in Southern Africa. A.total of 132 individuals responded and stated that they would be willing to participate in my research project. The data analysis indicates that when TEE helps its students to adhere to the following three principles of contextualization, the church is able to experience numerical growth; (1) Both the clergy and the laity have a vital ministry; (2) It is important to minister to the spiritual needs of people, as well as to the social and political needs of the people; and (3) Christians must be helped to think and act critically and creatively about the contexts in which they live and work. The conclusion seems to be that the Mozambican TEE programme, because it is being contextualized, is helping its churches to grow. On the other hand, the TEE programme in South Africa, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe, because it has not been effectively contextualized, seems to be powerless in helping its churches to do the same. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / Th. The (un)successful pastor : an investigation of pastoral leadership selection within churches in Ontario

Bonis, Christopher Richard 06 1900 (has links)
This thesis contends that the pastoral role is significant to the effective functioning and well-being of the church. Therefore, the initial selection of a pastor is a vital component and contributes to those desirable outcomes. The question being considered within this thesis is: What are the factors within a church hiring process which may play a role in successful or unsuccessful pastoral ministry? As there are many variables even within this process, the scope of this thesis is limited to the identification and selection of pastoral leadership from the perspective of the pastoral participants. This perspective is drawn from one denominational association in Ontario —the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptists (FEB hereafter) within the Central region of Canada. In examining this question, an empirical, mixed-methodology is used. The triangulation of a literature review, surveys, personal interviews and a biblical, theological treatment allowed for the most comprehensive perspective and treatment of the research question (Leedy, 2010, p. 99). There is a significant amount of inductive reasoning included, based upon personal interactions within cultural contexts and experiences. This is due to the inadequacy or lack of current theories and available literature relative to the question being studied. This motivates me towards the inclusion of a grounded theory methodology as a component of this study (Leedy, 2010, p. 142). Hiring the right pastor is a challenge at the best of times. As the church struggles to respond to a rapidly changing and diverse culture it presents greater challenges. Rates of pastoral turnover are high and the general duration of pastoral ministry is low. This, in turn, impacts ministry effectiveness. This study of hiring practices and pastoral experiences begins to identify elements as to why some pastors are successful and others are not. It allows for the reflection and consideration of whether the church is, what I have termed, “Equipping the Called, or Calling the Equipped”. There is cause for hope, as there always is within God’s church. This thesis identifies concerns, as well as some positive practices and experiences that can be helpful to inform practice and potential change. As Osmer acknowledges, “observing good practice in other congregations is a powerful source of normative guidance” (Osmer, 2008, p. 152). / Practical Theology / M. Th. (Practical Theology)

A comparative study of models of theological training for pastors and evangelists in Kibera informal settlement

Wanzala, Patience Santa 07 1900 (has links)
Nairobi is one of the fastest growing cities in Africa with an average of five hundred people coming to the city on a daily basis. More than seventy percent of these people end up living in the informal settlements. An appropriate model of theological training for church leaders needs to be developed, so as to equip them to work with congregations and communities within the informal settlements, to address the needs and potential of people living in the context of Kibera informal settlements and to bring about spiritual and material transformation in their midst. A qualitative and comparative study was undertaken and data was collected through semistructured interviews and focus group discussions. After interpreting the data, the researcher found out: The problems and needs of the community and challenges of church ministers in the informal settlements are enormous. It includes unemployment, poor housing and sanitation, and a general lack of resources to meet basic needs; as well as negative ethnicity, inadequate ministers‟ stipends and the dependence of church members on ministers.  The existing models of theological education have not effectively equipped church ministers to face these challenges in informal settlement ministry. The research study end by proposing a model that will enable church ministers‟ witness to the incarnation of Christ among marginalized people in the informal settlement of Kibera. This model of theological training will be informed by African, Freirian and Western approaches to education. It will aim to form, inform and transform the pastoral work of ministers in informal settlement contexts. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / M.A. (Theology in Missiology: Specialization in Urban Ministry)
