José Manuel Kowalska Prelicz 28 September 2007 (has links)
An analysis of the double concept of Christ's body as Church and as Eucharist from Paul's letters to the Romans and 1 Corinthians. In the first part an approach to the concept of swμa and its relation with the Church will be discussed. The Church as body with its unity in Christ in midst of the diversity of its members. In the second part presenting an approximation to the concept koinonia and the relation of this with the Eucharist as participation in the presence of Christ in the celebration and the bread is treated. Studying Eucharist as participation in Christ, the problems in Corinth will be the basis for the interrelationship between the Church and the Eucharist, presenting a mutual agreement of existence and experience. In the last part implications will be presented for the life in community and worship with the prominence of the significance of the application of koinonia and being Christ's body as much within the Church as beyond its borders and the practice of responsibility as Christ's body in the society and to history in relation to the areas of justice and dignity.

Building up the church and church growth in Korean churches through the Koinonia of a small group ministry

Kim, Tae Hyun 15 July 2011 (has links)
This thesis researched the development and nurturing of koinonia in a small group setting as a way of building up a church with spiritual (qualitative) and numerical (quantitative) growth as one of the results. When considering church growth a small group ministry is an important alternative to the standard church practice. Chapter 2 reviewed the purpose of the church, and explored the concept of building up the church using Biblical concepts as its basis for doing so. Chapter 3 deals with the role of koinonia in building up the church and its impact on church growth. It also identifies the ministry of small groups as being the most suitable method to develop and nurture koinonia amongst members of a congregation. The ministry of small groups has a great practical potential for the church. It enables members of the congregation to identify and use their spiritual gifts and talents, and in so doing, discover their value and identity in Jesus Christ. Chapter 4 documents the findings of empirical research conducted amongst three South Korean Presbyterian churches that practice the ministry of small groups. The views of the three senior pastors were on the value of small groups were ascertained. This was followed by a detailed study, of the workings and effects of small groups covering 205 respondents spread across the three congregations. Based on the findings of the research, chapter 5 presents a proposed plan to build up the church, encouraging church growth through the development and nurturing of koinonia through a small groups ministry. The study proposes a seven fold approach to the implementation of a small group ministry designed to stimulate spiritual and numerical growth through the development and nurturing of koinonia amongst church members. / Dissertation (MA(Theol))--University of Pretoria, 2011. / Practical Theology / unrestricted

Instead of favoring a specific period of the life of John Wesley, the theological biography of John Wesley is developed based on the concept of the sedimentation of experience. In this manner, the theologia viatorum of John Wesley is developed with a focus on its transverse elements and their unfolding in terms of communitarian, synergetic and public aspects. According to the thesis, the theologia viatorum of John Wesley gains depth and vitality with its growing and conscious learning from and commitment to the English people, and, in special, with the poor of England. Accompanied by a careful self-analysis, Wesley begins offers an analysis of the diverse soteriologies of his day, which are marked by a slow transition between the Medieval era and modernity. There arises a reconstruction characteristic of soteriology, currently called social soteriology. We understand this social soteriology as a pivotal point in the theology of John Wesley, which manifests itself in a typical soteriological anthropology, Christology, pneumatology, eschatology and ecclesiology. The communitarian, synergetic and public aspects of this social soteriology are seen and developed by Wesley based on his own experience and life with the people, their dynamics, their culture, their needs and their competencies. Such aspects lead, step by step, toward a praxis that begins to contemplate the interconnections between the reform of the Church, the nation and the transformation of persons. This movement is co- motivated by an utopist soteriological horizon that foresees the continuation of the theologia viatorum until the transformation of the entire cosmos. This social soteriology appears as a web that closely accompanies the socio-economic and religious topography of the its time, and seeks paths to overcome impasses, despair, and irresponsibility in relation to the poor.(AU) / Este estudo investiga os elementos da soteriologia de John Wesley e seus aspectos dinamizantes.

: En frågeställning belyst av den ekumeniska utvecklingen i Uddevalla 1975-2000 / Renewal and Unity – opposites or partners : An issue highlighted by the ecumenical development in Uddevalla 1975-2000

Olsson, Arne January 2013 (has links)
During the last four decades of the 1900’s, the churches in Sweden faced major changes, both from a national and a local perspective. Two movements within Christianity played a major role in this development: the ecumenical movement and the charismatic movement. The encounters between the established churches and, in particular, the charismatic renewal movement was, however, not always friction-free. At times, they were quite belligerent. As a result, many relations between people and organisations were damaged, during the 80’s and 90’s. In addition to personal and collective grief, this implied a significant drain of resources. The aim of this study is to examine, from an ecclesiological perspective, what happens in the encounter between a renewal movement and churches in a local ecumenical context, and to highlight under what conditions these meetings lead to unity and division, respectively. The actors of interest to this study are (1) the renewal movement with its upholders, (2) the churches, with its ministers, and (3) leaders at district and national levels. The aim is to find patterns in their behaviour, as well as the consequences of these for the encounters between the renewal movement and the established churches in the area. The participants' ability to engage in active reconciliation appears to be an important factor, determining the direction of the correlation between renewal movements in relation to division and unity. A part of the aim is therefore also to examine the conditions and the occurrence of reconciliation processes, as well as the methodology used. The study is made from a local ecumenical perspective on the meeting between the renewal movement and the church. More specifically, the ecumenical development in Uddevalla, during its meeting with the charismatic renewal movement the years 1975-2000, is examined.

De Wet, Burgert Wynand 02 November 2005 (has links)
This thesis sets out to proof that Paul advised the Corinthians, at least prominently, from a Christ-centred koinwniva frame of mind when addressing their issues in 1 Corinthians. Firstly it has been established that the koinwniva word group may be defined within the nuances of a dynamic relationship. Secondly the study has compiled, with this definition in mind, at least 47 of the most prominent koinwniva elements as found throughout the Bible, with special focus on the New Testament. These elements have then been organised in a koinwniva defined theological framework so that it could be easily accessible for further study into the way Paul might have used them later on in 1 Corinthians. The study then continued not only to point out the important role of 1 Cor 1:1-9 in the Corinthian letter, but also to show how the themes still to be addressed are actually being set in a koinwniva frame of mind. Furthermore, the role of 1:9, as nexus, combined with the specific reference to koinwniva with Christ has also been stressed. In doing so Paul actually supply us with what could be called a “key” to unlock other koinwniva elements in the rest of 1 Corinthians without encountering the koinwniva term as such. So, armed with this “key” and our carefully defined koinwniva theological framework, 1 Cor 5-6 and 8:1-11:1 have been selected as test cases in proving the hypothesis as true. After the issues that Paul encountered in these chapters have been clarified and his responses exegetically laid out, it has been shown in every textual unit, within the designated macro units, that Paul most definitely put koinwniva with Christ in the focus of each suggested solution. Through this “key” other relevant referrals were then made to one or more of the 47 koinwniva elements from the previously compiled koinwniva theological framework. Realising that the koinwniva dynamics featured consistently behind Paul’s suggestions to the Corinthians, led to the conclusion that Paul extensively tapped into a Christ-centred koinwniva dynamic as a prominent frame of mind to address some of the key issues featuring in 1 Corinthians. / Thesis (PhD (New Testament Studies))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / New Testament Studies / unrestricted
