Deza Huaman, Rocio del Milagro, Delgado Villena, Chris Almendra January 2015 (has links)
Tesis

California Dreaming: Place and Persona in the Essays of Joan Didion and Eve Babitz

Christoff, Claire Elizabeth 12 1900 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Joan Didion, a native of Sacramento, California, is the author of many acclaimed collections of journalism and memoir, the first of which were Slouching Towards Bethlehem (1968) and The White Album (1979). Eve Babitz, a lifelong resident of Los Angeles, has produced two such volumes: Eve’s Hollywood (1974) and Slow Days, Fast Company: The World, The Flesh, and L.A. (1977). While much critical ink has been spilled over Didion’s oeuvre, Babitz was, until the recent reprinting of the aforementioned titles, known best as an artist and muse. Perhaps due to this disparity in recognition and renown, no extant critical piece serves to compare the nonfiction of Didion and Babitz, despite their close geographic and social proximity. In viewing their early work side by side, the Golden West of the 1960s and ’70s emerges as the clearest point of comparison; however, the ways in which Didion and Babitz use place and time in their work often differ due to the marked contrasts in the identities they convey. In characterizing herself as a journalist and an observer, Didion offers a perspective that feels objective but is, at turns, wry and cool. Babitz, writing in a manner that was, at one time, considered autofiction, positions herself as the freewheeling focal point around which Hollywood’s dizzying cultural landscape unfolds. By manipulating the constructs of place and persona, these writers are better equipped to tell the story at hand and analyze their places within it, cementing their work in California’s literary canon.

Genre And Persona In Activist Websites

Boreman, Margaret M.F. 01 January 2004 (has links)
Digital texts present significant challenges to technical communicators in terms of genre and persona. Because of the ubiquity of electronic media, we increasingly embrace digital formats over print-based documents. As a result, technical communicators must now devise the means to cue audiences to the purposes of digital documents in any given discourse community. We can only convey meaning to our Internet audiences through the use of appropriate standards and elements recognizable generic forms and rhetorical cues that we designate as conventions in specific digital discourse. Just as we use file and folder office metaphors for information stored on computers, digital activist communities use campaign metaphors to signal the intentions of their electronic pages. Although these electronic pages, such as Take Action, Donate, Lobby, and Speak Out, have the same names as their print-based counterparts, they represent digital generic forms, such as letters, flyers, and receivables, which occur in a virtual world rather than genres that exist in a physical community. If we examine activist sites in terms of digital-format texts, we can become familiar with the genre and forms of activist sites and determine site-visitor responses to the personas of the sites, which will help us to determine our ability to inform our audiences and call them to action. This study looks at six activist websites in terms of genre and persona to identify electronic-text conventions and forms that must be recognizable to site visitors in order for digital activists to effectively communicate. Activist organizations were among the first to understand the power of digital media as tools to disseminate information, lobby decision-makers, boycott corporations, broadcast opportunities for real and virtual legal protests and civil disobedience, and engage in subversive activities. Activist websites already use a number of text forms and visual rhetorical elements to cue the site visitor; many of these text forms are common to the activist websites examined for this thesis and constitute an identifiable and distinct genre. In terms of persona, this study examines the electronic public self of activist websites. The arena is a metaphor for the virtual world; the rhetors are the activist sites; and the debate the intertextual conversation is the digital discourse that occurs among website users, activist sites, and targets. By categorizing activist sites in terms of their primary activities helping, protest, and revolutionary - we determine which elements of genre repeat according to categories and we ultimately gauge the intensity of the outcome that the website rhetor hopes to create in the user. Designers and owners of activist sites have goals which can only be reached by means of effective, well-considered, digital genre and persona. Because many technical communicators and students of technical communication first experience the profession through service learning for a nongovernmental organization often an activist organization this study will help those technical communicators to reconsider their own assumptions about genre and persona and may lead those students to understand the importance of privileging genre and persona when designing and redesigning digital texts. This study provides a framework that both experienced and new technical communicators can apply to documents in order to (1) cue site visitors to the meaning of electronic texts and (2) construct effective public personas in the digital forum.

Förståelsen av konstnärlig identitet och dessinverkan på producerande av musik / The understanding of artisticidentity - the everyday life of a musicproduce

Danielsson Kihlström, Izak January 2022 (has links)

De la poétique à la critique : lʼinfluence péripatéticienne chez Aristarque / From poetics to criticism : the Peripatetic influences on Aristarchus

Bouchard, Elsa 12 May 2012 (has links)
This thesis sets out to examine two points of contact in the poetics of the Peripatetics and Aristarchus, namely : 1) the exegetical attitude that takes account of the fictionality of poetry, thus exempting it from the constraints of truthfulness that ancient readers traditionally imposed on it, especially within the allegorical tradition; 2) the perception of the content of a work of poetry as being autonomous from its author, especially with regard to the relation between the poet and his characters.

Therefore, the overall objective of this research is to understand what type of relation exists between the body weight of these individuals and the act of acquiring and wearing clothes. This research uses the concept of persona from Jungian Psychology to understand this issue in a psychological perspective. The methodology used involves semi-structured interviews and the measurement of the Body Mass Index of 40 males and 40 females, distributed between five BMI categories: normal range, overweight and obesity classes I, II and III. The data was analyzed by crossing the closed questions that stood out in terms of percentage with the verbalizations of the participants aimed at justifying their choices. We have found a linear relation between the BMI and the following variables: the feeling of exclusion, difficulty in finding clothes of adequate size and dissatisfaction with body weight. Worrying about body weight causes suffering not only in participants with obese BMI, but also in participants with normal BMI and overweight BMI / Possuir índice de massa corporal obesidade e ser cuidadoso com sua aparência física podem ser características pessoais inconciliáveis para os indivíduos gordos.

Vers de nouveaux outils pour l’anticipation des besoins utilisateurs : apports méthodologiques pour l'ergonomie prospective / Towards new tools to the anticipation of future needs : methodological contributions for prospective ergonomics

Barre, Jessy 10 December 2015 (has links)
Requirements analysis is the first step of the design process. It is also animportant source of innovation in companies, particularly when it is shared and fulfilled by themultidisciplinary design team. The prospection and anticipation of future needs are therefore animportant challenge for the development of new products adapted to their user. The goal of thisthesis is to optimize the anticipation of future needs in order to foster innovation. Ourassumptions include methodological and technological factors to improve the collaboration ofthe multidisciplinary team and the performance of requirements anticipation. Theseassumptions are operationalized through three different ways of running the Persona methodand tested in the context of three industrial projects. We show that a method combining severalreasoning modes adapted to the various professional backgrounds in the multidisciplinary team, the anticipation of needs is improved quantitatively and qualitatively (i.e. usefulness assessedby users). We also show that the technological support plays an important role in theeffectiveness of methods: a collaborative and playful technology such as an interactive tabletopcan increase the number of strategic ideas for the company (i.e. useful and technically feasible);an immersive and playful technology such as a virtual world can shape needs anticipation inaccordance with the project priorities (Techno-Centered or User-Centered). These results openmany opportunities for the methodological and technological evolution of front-end innovationphases towards the anticipation of future needs.

Sexual personae in Horace's erotic poetry

Hay, Paul Jerome 13 August 2012 (has links)
The application of persona theory to the poetry of Horace is a well-established method of critical analysis, but in Horace’s love poems we can also distinguish various erotic voices. The Odes and Epodes of Horace feature several distinct sexual personae as the speakers of the poems. Horace the Lothario is a witty, didactic, slightly detached expert on love and erotic behavior. Horace the Excluded Lover is a gloomy failure at love who desires someone he cannot have. Horace the Ephebophile seeks as the object of his erotic desire a young man generally older than traditional Roman pederasty would suggest, but this desire is coded and suppressed. Horace the Moralist, possibly in ironic relation to the other three, attacks loose sexual morals and praises Augustus for returning chastity and monogamy to Rome. Finally, the sexual personae of some of Horace’s poems defy simple categorization and must be analyzed more closely in order to explain the nature of the speaker. This methodology, the division into sexual personae, allows us to give a fresh critical appraisal to Horace’s erotic poetry. / text

Crenitte, Marianita do Rocio Xavier 04 December 2009 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-08-03T12:20:59Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 MARIANITA.pdf: 405752 bytes, checksum: 68f8d75c505ad970b6cfb40996bee386 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-12-04 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The purpose of the present study is to address the concepts of success, religion and culture in business and religious environments according to C. G. JUNG through the Jungian Analytical Psychology and also B. TANURE concerning the corporate world, scenarios and elaboration of concepts related to the culture of professional success. Because this is a complex topic, the present study will also include the perspective of other authors who have contributed to the explanation and evidence of the theme, as secondary references. The author understands that the individuals living in modern times seem to be getting away from themselves, their values and even their own faith. During this process, they try to find motives, which in general are unreal, blaming a lot of people and even God from all religious, for their acts and attitudes and for choices made by themselves. In the professional world, the choices made reflect the search for success, an archetype that has been increasingly understood as the search for power. The goal here is to show that this aspect has helped in an aggressive way the creation of a new culture: the culture of professional success, which nowadays is perceived in corporate organizations as well as in religious ones. Furthermore, the aim of this research is to demonstrate that the balance between being professionally successful and living in harmony is possible, in contrast to what we have observed in some contexts mainly in the corporate world where not always the price paid for being successful is a fair price.(AU) / A pesquisa em questão versará sobre uma abordagem dos conceitos de sucesso, religião, cultura em ambientes corporativos e religiosos, sob as óticas de C.G.JUNG, no que se refere aos conceitos da psicologia analítica junguiana e que vem sendo aplicados nos ambientes profissionais, e de B.TANURE no que se refere às relações nos ambientes corporativos, cenários e formação do conceito de cultura do sucesso profissional.
