Pervasive computing promotes environments where a patchwork of heterogeneous and volatile resources are integrated in places of daily life. These hardware and software resources cooperate in a transparent way, through applications, in order to provide high valueadded services. These services are adapted to each user and its environment, via the notion of context. Pervasive applications are now widely distributed, from distant cloud facilities down to Fog Computing gateway or even in sensors, near the user. Depending on the localization, various forms of context are needed by the applications. In this thesis, we focus on the context module at Fog Level. In order to simplify the design and execution, Fog applications are built on top of a service-oriented platform, freeing the developer of technical complexity and providing a support to handle the dynamism. We propose to extend this approach by providing the context as a set of service descriptions, available at design to the application developer. At runtime, depending on the context sources availability and on application current needs, context services are published or withdrawn inside the platform by the context module. We tailor a specific component model to program this context module. The base unit of our component model is called context entity. It is composed of highly coherent modules, implementing distinctly each service description proposed by the underlying context entity. These modules can simply describe their synchronization logic with context sources thanks to a domain specific language. At runtime, context entity instances can be introspected and reconfigured. An external autonomic manager uses these properties to match dynamically the context services exposed by the context module to the application needs. We have developed a reference implementation of our work, called CReAM, which can be used in a smart home gateway called iCASA, developed in a partnership with Orange Labs.

CÁLCULO DE AMBIENTES TIPADO SENSÍVEL AO CONTEXTO PARA APLICAÇÕES PERVASIVAS / TYPED CONTEXT AWARENESS AMBIENT CALCULUS FOR PERVASIVE APPLICATIONSPasqualin, Douglas Pereira 25 May 2012 (has links)
Nowadays, mobile computing is more present in daily life. Mobile phones, notebooks,
smart phones and wireless networks are part of everyday life. With this technology available,
the research in pervasive computing is growing. The idea of pervasive computing was introduced
by Mark Weiser in 1991, with a personal vision of how would be computing in the 21st
century. Weiser s idea was that information processing would become part of everyday life, and
would be available everywhere. Furthermore, it would be so natural as being invisible in the
ambient. To make computing invisible, applications must be proactive, asking for a minimum of
user intervention for its operation. An important concept that arises with pervasive computing is
the context awareness . Context is any information that can be used to characterize an entity.
Based on contextual information, applications can dynamically adapt to the environments in
which they operate, becoming proactive and conveying the idea of invisibility. New programming
languages or even new paradigms are being developed trying to make more intuitive the
programming of pervasive applications. Most of these programming languages attempt to add
new features into existing programming languages. However, some authors argue that there
must be new formalisms that help to model the properties of pervasive systems, in particular the
context awareness. The formal description of a system modeled by formal methods can be used
to demonstrate that some properties of the system are correctly modeled. In this sense, this work
studies a formal model that can be used as a basis for specifying a new programming language,
called Calculus of Context-aware Ambients (CCA), proposed to describe mobile and pervasive
applications. Another formal method used in the specification of programming languages are
the type systems. Type systems helps to ensure that the system behaves according to the specification,
that is, is a way to formally prove the absence of undesirable behavior in a system.
Thus, the main contribution of this work is the definition of a type system for the CCA with
the focus in the communication between processes. As a case study two real scenarios were
modeled using the CCA, demonstrating the use of the type system developed. The preservation
(or subject reduction) property of the type system was formally proved, demonstrating that the
type system is correct, i.e., achieving the main purpose of the present work.
Dessa forma, a principal contribuição deste trabalho é

MODELO DE AQUISIÇÃO DE CONTEXTO AFETIVO BASEADO EM AUTOANÁLISE, CLASSIFICAÇÃO DE TAREFAS E ASPECTOS DO ESTRESSE PARA A ARQUITETURA CLINICSPACE / ACQUISITION MODEL OF AFFECTIVE CONTEXT BASED INT SELF-ANALYSIS, TASK CLASSIFICATION AND ASPECTS OF STRESS FOR THE CLINICSPACE ARCHITETUREFiorin, André 09 November 2012 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The research in Pervasive Computing have directed their efforts to the modeling and development
of programmable and interactive environments, able to assist users in their daily activities.
The Systems Group of Mobile Computing (gMob) of Federal University of Santa Maria,
developed the project ClinicSpace, a system to aid clinical tasks in hospitals based on Pervasive
Computing technologies. On the other hand, the Affective Computing, which is a relatively
new field of research in computer science, came up with the proposal to identify and synthesize
human feelings in machinery, in order to make the interaction with computing devices more
enjoyable and less frustrating. Given that pervasive systems work with context information to
adapt their applications according to user needs, it becomes feasible through the Affective Computing,
identify emotional characteristics of a person for this type of information can be used
as context element, making the adjustment more precise applications pervasive. In this context,
this research proposes a model of acquisition of affective context using techniques of inference
of stress from psychological tools, emotional self-analysis and stressful classification of clinical
tasks. Integrating the concepts of Affective Computing and Pervasive Computing, this model
aims to classify the state of stress of the users of ClinicSpace and use it as an affective context,
increasing the wealth of contextual information used in this system. To develop the proposed
model, studies were performed on the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), responsible for identifying
stress in an individual, the use of AffectButtons to identify the user s emotional state, and the
development of a questionnaire, applied to health care professionals to identify and classify the
degree of stress of clinical activities. Based on these three approaches was possible to develop
a classification model of stress for ClinicSpace users (doctors). To validate the proposal, was
implemented a prototype of Affective Context Service for architecture ClinicSpace, which was
tested in the Annas Dias Hospital (Ibirubá - RS). The results showed that the model proposed
in this work is able to classify the state of stress for clinicians that this type of information can
be used as an element of context in pervasive systems.
pervasivos.

Its development was more accelerated in the post-industrial period when society began to produce a large amount of information. In the 21st century, access to information through the use of the Internet with smartphones has become something within reach of the population, providing an increase in communication. The objective of this work was to analyze the Pokémon GO application,
considering the Architecture of Pervasive Information, when the motivation of the use of this theme was the recent launch of applications for smartphones that use pervasive environments,
highlighting the game that became a huge Success of downloads and brought a great innovation in the way of play. For the accomplishment of this research, the participant research methodology was adopted, in which the user-researcher interacts directly with the searched object. The collected data were analyzed in a qualitative way. Using the game
environment and evaluating the pervasive interaction presented at the threshold between the physical and digital environment, the heuristics described by Resmini and Rosati (2011) were considered. In the use of the game were explored the physical environments present in the city of João Pessoa, in addition to the moments of interaction. In the results the adherence to the proposed heuristics was discussed and these were punctuated as Present, Partially Present and Not Present. Finally, the data were analyzed suggesting improvements both for the game, considering the Pervasive Information Architecture, and for the environment itself.
The evolution of mobile technologies allows the emerging of ubiquitous systems, able to anticipate userâs needs and to seamlessly adapt to context changes. These systems present the problem of dynamic adaptation in a highly distributed, heterogeneous and volatile environment, since it may be difficult to collect and process context information from distributed unknown sources. The problem faced is the management of contextual data in scenarios with mobility and intermittent connections between mobile devices and servers. In order to facilitate the development of such systems, this work extends an existing support system based on centralized tuple spaces, called SysSU (LIMA et al., 2011), aiming at the management of distributed information. Hence, a decentralized tuple space approach is adopted, offering to ubiquitous systems components the capability of interaction and cooperation in scenarios of total decentralization. Thus, this work introduces SysSU-DTS (System Support for Ubiquity - Distribute Tuple Space), a system support that provides functionality for coordinating ubiquitous systems
in open environments, where no assumptions about available resources should be made. It focuses on ubiquitous systems based on mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and ultrabooks, which can communicate through a Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET). SysSU-DTS represents context information by tuples and allows a transparent access to spread context, as follows: (i)local access, which accesses an internal device tuple space; (ii) infrastructured access, tuple spaces located on a server accessed using an infrastructured network; or (iii) Ad hoc access, interacting directly with tuple spaces located in nearby devices via the formation of an Ad hoc network. From the access to different context providers, ubiquitous and context-aware applications, using SysSU-DTSs support, can have an insight of global context related to the system entities. In addition, SysSU-DTS implements a scope mechanism that allows the formation of
available contextual information subsets. This mechanism restricts access to contextual tuples only to members of the same scope, avoiding unnecessary information management. This dissertation reports some experimental results obtained in a performance evaluation using a testbed of smartphones and tablets. The evaluation shows the practical feasibility of our approach and point out how SysSU-DTS can grant context data distribution with dynamically adapting to local, infrastructured and distributed over Ad hoc networks context providers.

Previous issue date: 2009-11-04 / This work is discussed the conceptual model of a multi-agent system for
environmental monitoring with the use of biomarkers of aquatic organisms present in
the port complex of São Luís-Maranhão-Brasil, second most important in the country
in cargo handling. Located in the São Marcos Bay, this complex have an estuarine
ecosystems which have suffered attacks in the current process of economic
development, caused by intense port handling, dumping of ballast water and washing
the vessels, overfishing, introduction of exotic species in the middle pollution in urban
and industrial effluents, subject to severe environmental impacts that should be
monitored. Methodologically, the modeling of the monitoring solution, we used the
existing environmental conditions and aquatic life caught in two different sites of the
port complex, the first in a potentially contaminated area and the second in a
contamination-free (control), proposing the creation of a network of sensors in these
locations. Invest conceded data by Carvalho-Neta (2007) whose research includes to
catch fish in these perimeters, then submitting them for laboratory analysis to
measure the enzyme activity of glutathione S-transferase (GST) and Catalase (CAT),
the result was processed and recorded in bio-ontology . The core of the solution of

GST, inspiring the modeling software agent that simulates the behavior of this
enzyme. The solution also includes an application running on mobile devices that
makes the collection of environmental variables in the selected points, validates them
and makes the inference of those who could not be collected. Multi-agent System for
Environmental Monitoring of the Port Complex of the Island of São Luís-Maranhão-

application collection and inference of data from environmental conditions, software
agents to simulate biochemical analysis, calculation of GST activity and other staff
related to the maintenance and security of the SMA.
efluentes domésticos e industriais, sujeitando o ambiente a fortes impactos
coletadas.
da atividade da GST e outros agentes relacionados à manutenção e segurança do
SMA.

Pervasive service computing: community coordinated multimedia, context awareness, and service compositionZhou, J. (Jiehan) 22 November 2011 (has links)
Abstract
This thesis introduces a novel Web service-centric solution to pervasive computing, called Service-oriented Pervasive Computing (also called Pervasive Service Computing), which enables computer systems to deal with context in the user’s environment, to dynamically discover and compose existing services, and to develop Internet-scale multimedia applications that support users’ activities.
First, this thesis introduces the concept of Pervasive Service Computing and its relation to community coordinated multimedia, context awareness, and service-oriented computing. It then investigates the state of the art, the practices, and techniques which have been developed to support such services. Building on these tools, this study adopts a service-oriented methodology to design a reference model for Pervasive Service Computing, for accommodating specified technical requirements. This model can serve as a guide for research and development towards Pervasive Service Computing.
Second, the thesis examines the nature of community coordinated multimedia, and develops the concept of Community Coordinated Multimedia (CCM). To discover the potentials of discoverability and composability of multimedia applications, the thesis introduces a model for Service-oriented Community Coordinated Multimedia (SCCM), and demonstrates the idea of “multimedia application as a service.” Furthermore, the thesis presents a content annotation service and evaluates its feasibility as an end-user prototype.
Third, the thesis investigates the nature of context awareness in Pervasive Service Computing, to broaden the definition of context and context-awareness. This research introduces context-aware pervasive service composition (CAPSC) applications, and specifies three-levels of context awareness. Building on this framework, the context-aware service composition prototype is implemented.
Fourth, the author examines the overall potential of service composition in Pervasive Service Computing, distinguishes its two main functions as service collaboration, and service coordination, and then develops an ODPSC (Ontology-Driven Pervasive Service Composition) ontology. To address the availability and scalability of service composition, the thesis introduces options for dynamic service composition in the Cloud, and develops an accelerated Cloud architecture for service composition in the Cloud (namely CM4SC middleware). Last, the CM4SC middleware as a service prototype is implemented.
Tämän viitekehyksen avulla toteutetaan tilannetietoinen palvelujen kokoamisen prototyyppi.
Neljänneksi työssä arvioidaan jokapaikan tietotekniikan palvelujen kokoamisen mahdollisuuksia, tunnistetaan sen kaksi keskeistä toiminnallisuutta, palvelujen yhteistoiminnallisuus (service collaboration) ja palvelujen koordinointi (service coordination), sekä kehitetään ODPSC (Ontology-Driven Pervasive Service Composition) -ontologia. Työssä esitetään saavutettavuuden ja laajennettavuuden haasteisiin ratkaisuksi dynaaminen palvelujen kokoaminen pilvipalveluna. Työssä kehitetään kiihdytetty pilviarkkitehtuuri (CM4SC-välikerrosohjelmisto) palvelujen kokoamiseen pilvessä. Lopuksi työssä toteutetaan CM4SC-välikerrosohjelmiston palveluprototyyppi.

Une approche autonome pour la gestion logicielle des espaces intelligents / An autonomic approach for the software management of smart spacesGouin-Vallerand, Charles 23 June 2011 (has links)
The arrival of new approaches such as the pervasive computing create new technologies, which improved the quality of the interactions with the I.T. systems, However, the broad utilization of the pervasive computing and the development of smart spaces are facing several challenges. The large number of hardware and software components and their heterogeneous natures, contributes to the complexity of deploying and managing these environments, resulting in high costs. This thesis contributes to the software management of the smart spaces by reducing the complexity of the management tasks. Our proposal consists of an autonomic approach to software management based on the autonomic pervasive computing. As part of this work, we propose a solution using the environment’s contextual information to determine the software distribution among the environment’s devices, which best fits the needs of the software, environments and the interaction modalities and preferences of the environment’s users. The proposed solution was implemented and evaluated using a series of tests and software organization scenarios
