The first two parts of a guide which lists approximately 3,500 photographs taken by Leipzig missionaries in what are now Kenya and Tanzania, mainly between 1890 and 1940.

This volume is a guide to references to East Africa (including photographs) in the main journal of the Leipzig Mission, the Evangelisch-Lutherisches Missionsblatt , between 1893 and 1900. The articles, most of which were based on reports written by missionaries in what are now southern Kenya and northern Tanzania, have been indexed in order to facilitate research.

This study concerns in a three peatland sites: the epilitorals of Pilská reservoir and Hořejší Padrťský fishpond in Příbram region and Kamenný fishpond in Pilsen. These peat-bobg were affected by negative conseqences of human activities. The aim of this study is to find out what kind these changes was and what extent they were. The changes in vegetation were observed from two points of view. The GIS analyses of aerial photographs represent the macroscale view. Repeating of old phytosociological relevées was the microscale view. To understand the cause of vegetation changes, the species-environment analyses were used. Four transects were made for this purpose and a water table level, pH and conductivity were mesured monthly along these transects. One-shot measurements of N and P water concentration and a peat depth were also carried out. Measured data from transects were uses in multivariate vegetation analyses and also in one- way analysis, aimed to an expansion plant species. All three sites of concern came through strong changes in past. In all of them the area of biotops of great conservation importance decreased and some endangered plant species have been lost there. Wer den Maler Joachim Heuer (1900‐1994) in seinem Atelier in Dresden besuchte, dem offenbarte sich im philosophierenden Gespräch mit ihm wie auch in dessen Werken der heuersche Kosmos. All die Gegenstände, die in seinen Zeichnungen und Gemälden zu entdecken sind, fanden sich als reale Objekte im unmittelbaren Lebensumfeld des Künstlers wieder. Heuer griff die Büsten und Bilder, die Stühle wie den Tisch als Motive auf, reduzierte sie auf Formen und verwandelte sie in seine eigene Bilderwelt.

Denna uppsats behandlade material i form av fotografier och fotoalbum från tidsperioden 1850 – tidig 1900-talet. Tre fotoalbum valdes ut och jämförelsestudier utfördes på handplockade fotografier.Frågeställningar som utöver skulle besvaras var följande: • Hur har fotografen vald att avbilda personer och kan man utgöra mönster eller skillnader i avbildningen mellan kvinnor/män? • Ger fotografierna några konkreta ledtrådar för att kunna tidsbestämma dessa?• Kan man se en tydlig hierarki i hur fotografierna är placerade i fotoalbum tre? I undersökningen kom fram att fotografen hade flera olika rekvisita till hjälp, för det mesta stolar, böcker och olika bakgrunder när personer fotograferades. Undersökningen gav dock inget svar på om kunderna kunde välja mellan olika rekvisita eller om fotografen valde ut dessa. Vidare hände det väldigt sällan att fotografen dirigerade kundens blick direkt in i kameran, i de flesta fotografier syns kundens blick vara riktad mot vänster om kamerans lens, även överkroppen är bortvänd från kameran. I vissa fotografier syntes männen fortfarande iklädda sina ytterkläder medan kvinnorna avbildades utan ytterkläder på. Ett förförande som var traditionellt förankrad i visitkortsfotografier under denna period.Tidsbestämningen av fotografierna gjordes dels med hjälp av fotografregistret där fotografernas verksamhetstid är nedskriven och med hjälp av en manual från Skelleftebygden. Ett släktträd upprättades som hjälpmedel till frågeställningen om möjliga hierarkier fanns i fotoalbum nummer 3.Uppsatsens diskussionsdel belyste också hur fotoalbum 3 som hade mest metadata knuten till sig troligen användes av ägaren. Det visade sig att det fanns ett slags hierarki i placeringen av fotografierna i albumet som undersöktes med hänsyn till en engelsk publikation av James Granger och iakttagelser av den svenska forskaren Anna Dahlgren. En tydlig ordning där första bilden är av ägarens föräldrar följd av fotografier föreställande ägarens farmor och mormor. Efter detta presenterades först faderns sida och sedan moderns sida. Albumet avslutades med en serie av fotografier av ett så kallad ”gubbkräk” som fick trots sin höga ställning inom militären placeringen längs bak i albumet där i annan forskning brottslingar eller personer med missväxt placerades. Utöver detta verkade fotoalbum nummer 3 ha används i sammanhang med privata sammankomster såsom släktmiddagar. Förhoppningen med upptäckten att det kan finnas en hierarki i dessa fotoalbum är att flera arkivinstitutioner ändrar sitt arbetssätt i hur man tar emot och förvarar fotoalbum i framtiden.

This creative thesis is comprised of stories that present characters who deal with guilt and betrayal and explores various points of view. My work is informed by Junot Diaz’s The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, which contains these themes and investigates narration. “Surviving Fog” centers around survivor’s guilt, while “Coming Full Circle, No Detour in Sight” demonstrates how a person can exert expectations on herself due to a religious background and personal values. Perhaps my most provocative story, “Beyond the Apple Orchard” delves into the emotional and physical betrayal of a father and the daughter’s struggles to overcome it. “Photographic Memories” embraces the surreal with a woman who can “read” photographs, whose story blends past transgressions that bleed into current ones, while “Send in the Clowns, Send in the Mob” explores herd mentality that stems from fear. Ultimately, each story contains kernels of truth that readers can grasp.

History, both collective and personal, often provides a stimulus for Southern poets and is useful in bridging the gap between the writers' personal memories and associations and those of the reading audience. The critical introduction to this collection explores connections between personal and shared history in the works of Natasha Trethewey, Betty Adcock, and Kathryn Stripling Byer. These poets convey their own connections to the past through reacting to historical photographs, relaying their own experiences during natural disasters, and setting private incidents within their larger historical contexts. These poets also suggest that time is concentric and malleable, and that history is essentially changed through its retelling. Poems offer a chance to rewrite one's own history. In the final section, I show that historical connections are treated similarly in my own work and that, through making associations with history, my poems also attempt to rewrite the past.
