O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar quais foram as condições para a implementação dos Jardins de Recreio, bem como a criação do Serviço de Recreação Pública, na cidade de Porto Alegre e as suas interfaces educativas no processo de constituição de um sujeito pautado por uma Educação na República. Nesse sentido, o foco de análise foi o de construir uma trajetória histórica dos Jardins de Recreio alinhavando com a vida do professor Frederico Guilherme Gaelzer. A pesquisa, de natureza qualitativa, fundamentou-se na análise documental a partir de documentos escritos (diário, leis, decretos, documentos oficiais e demais documentos impressos e manuscritos), orais (depoimentos) e iconográficos (imagens, mapas e planta), os quais foram concebidos como “monumentos”, no sentido que trata Le Goff, analisando como um produto da sociedade que o fabricou segundo as relações de forças. Partindo do referencial da História Cultural, à luz de teóricos como Roger Chartier e Michel de Certeau, a análise está estruturada em duas dimensões. Primeiro, fundamentada pela interface da Teoria Configuracional, operacionalizada a partir da obra de Norbert Elias, o estudo é conduzido no sentido de analisar as redes de interdependência de Frederico Gaelzer e a sua relação com a criação dos Jardins de Recreio e o Serviço de Recreação Pública. Em segundo, analisa as condições de instauração e funcionamento dos Jardins de Recreio em sua função educadora e seus desdobramentos com a urbanidade. Assim, foi possível compreender, através da análise dos dados empíricos, que os Jardins de Recreio, instituídos nas praças e parques públicos da cidade, constituíram-se para além de espaços de sociabilidade e lazer dos portoalegrenses. Havia uma intenção pedagógica fomentada pelas modificações urbanas, pelo discurso higienista e civilizatório deflagrados pela modernidade. / This study deals with a public policy instituted in some squares, from the decade of 1920, denominated Gardens of Recreation. The objective of this study was to identify the conditions for the implementation of the Recreation Gardens, as well as the creation of the Public Recreation Service in the city of Porto Alegre and its educational interfaces in the process of constitution of a subject ruled by na Education in Republic. In this sense, the focus of analysis was to build a historical trajectory of the Recreation Gardens aligning with the life of Professor Frederico Guilherme Gaelzer. The qualitative research was based on documentary analysis based on written documents (diary, laws, decrees, official documents and other printed documents and manuscripts), oral (testimonials) and iconographic (images, maps and plant), which were conceived as "monuments", in the sense that Le Goff treats, analyzing as a product of society that made it according to the relations of forces. In the light of theorists like Roger Chartier and Michel de Certeau, the analysis is structured in two dimensions. First, based on the interface of the Configurational Theory, operationalized from the work of Norbert Elias, the study is conducted in order to analyze the networks of interdependence of Frederico Gaelzer and its relation with the creation of the Recreation Gardens and the Public Recreation Service. Second, it analyzes the conditions for the establishment and operation of the Playgrounds in their educational function and its developments with urbanity. Thus, it was possible to understand, through the analysis of the empirical data, that the Gardens of Recreation, established in the squares and public parks of the city, were constituted beyond spaces of sociability and leisure of the Porto Alegre inhabitants. There was a pedagogical intention fostered by the urban modifications, by the hygienist and civilizing discourse triggered by modernity.

O objetivo deste trabalho é criar diretrizes que auxiliem no desenvolvimento de projetos para parques infantis acessíveis às crianças com deficiência. As leis, decretos e normas nacionais, tais como: a lei nº 7.853/1989; o decreto nº 5.296/2004; e as normas ABNT NBR 9050/2004 e NBR 16071/2012, apenas apontam recomendações abrangentes a serem aplicadas nos ambientes de lazer, limitando-se a informar sobre a necessidade de criar-se espaços acessíveis, sem indicar o como e a forma. Sendo assim, a fim de se estabelecer e delimitar as lacunas existentes, este estudo apresenta uma ampla correlação dos dados obtidos em revisão documental de leis nacionais e internacionais, conceitos de ergonomia, acessibilidade, tecnologia assistiva, princípios do design universal e levantamento de campo em escolas da rede pública. Pela amplitude do problema, a pesquisa se restringiu a investigação voltada apenas à acessibilidade dos usuários de cadeiras de rodas, seguindo as etapas da Metodologia Ergonômica para Ambiente Construído – MEAC. Os resultados são diretrizes específicas que servem tanto para o pátio como para os brinquedos do parque infantil. / The aim of this paper is to create guidelines which help in the development of projects for accessible infant playgrounds to handicapped children. The national laws, decrees and rules such as: a law nº 7.853/1989; the decree nº 5.296/2004; and the rules ABNT NBR 9050/2004 and NBR 16071/2012, just aim broad recommendations to be applied in leisure environments, just informing about the necessity of creating accessible places without indicating how and its form. Therefore, with the objective of establishing and delimitating the existing blanks, this study presents a wide correlation from the obtained data in documentary review of national and international laws, ergonomy concepts, accessibility, assistive technology, universal design principles and field survey at public schools. By its problem extent, the research limited the investigation just to accessibility of wheelchair users, following the steps of Ergonomic Methodology for Built Environment – MEAC. The results are specific guidelines which serve for the courtyard as well as for the infant playground toys.

A partir, principalmente, das relações emersas entre os movimentos sanitarista, higienista, eugenista e a Educação Física, observou-se a consolidação, no Brasil, de um imaginário que concebia a natureza como ambiente ideal, tanto para a cura e a prevenção de doenças, quanto para o fortalecimento e a educação do corpo, por meio de exercícios físicos como a ginástica, o esporte, os jogos e práticas terapêuticas como a helioterapia, a hidroterapia e a climatoterapia. Seguindo os caminhos de tal concepção de natureza, o Departamento de Educação Física do Estado de São Paulo, órgão subordinado a Secretaria da Educação e Saúde Pública, sobressai-se, uma vez que foi responsável, já na década de 1930, por importantes intervenções junto a duas instituições extra-escolares que mantinham proximidade com o imaginário da natureza curativa e educativa: os Parques Infantis e as Colônias de Férias. Quanto à instituição escolar, foi o Departamento de Educação Física do Estado de São Paulo responsável por criar e dirigir a Escola de Aplicação ao Ar Livre Dom Pedro II, a qual se conformou como uma instituição de ensino experimental localizada no interior de um parque público e que manteve como objetos centrais de sua pedagogia a Educação Física e a natureza. / Abstract: The research has sought after comprehending and discussing about the different medical imaginaries, from the beginning of the 20th century, in respect to Brazilian nature, as well as the distinctions drawn between the urban and the rural environment. Mainly from the emerged relations between the sanitary, hygienist, eugenist movements and the physical education, the consolidation in Brazil of an imaginary which conceived nature as an ideal environment was observed, for healing and disease prevention, as much as the strengthening and the education of the body, through physical exercises such as gymnastics, sports, games and therapeutic practices as heliotherapy, hydrotherapy and climotherapy. Following the ways of such a conception of the nature, the Department of Physical Education of São Paulo State, an organ under the Secretariat for Education and Public Health, stands out, once it was responsible, in the 1930s, for important interventions with two extracurricular institutions which kept nearness to the imaginary of healing and educational nature: the playgrounds and the summer camps. As for the school institution, it was the Department of Physical Education of São Paulo State responsible for creating and running the D. This diploma thesis defines the basic requirements of running playgrounds from the point of view of European and national legislative, technical standards and a brand of quality "Playground-Sports Ground-Gym - Verified Operation" which has been categorized in the Czech Quality Programme from 2011. The practical part of the diploma thesis deals with the analysis of the quality and safety of the playgrounds in the area of the statutory city of České Budějovice (SM ČB) from the scope of users of the playgrounds, operator, that is the municipality of the city of České Budějovice, and controlling organ (ČOI). To obtain all relevant information about the quality and safety of the playgrounds there was established communication with the Testing Institute of Light Industry, producers and providers of equipment for the playgrounds in the area of SM ČB, the owner of the brand of quality "Playground-Sports Ground-Gym - Verified Operation", operators of the playgrounds awarded by this brand of quality and the Center of Accident Prevention. In the concluding part of this diploma thesis is evaluated the state of the playgrounds in the area of SM ČB from the point of quality and safety and there are suggested some steps toward improving their running.

Universally Designed Playground Needs Assessment for Flag Pole Hill in White Rock Lake Park, Dallas, Texas

There is limited anthropological research on inclusive play and universally designed playgrounds and this study aims to make some contribution in this field. This was a qualitative research study guided by anthropological theory and methods, conducted for For the Love of the Lake (FTLOTL) Foundation. FTLOTL is a non-profit organization located in Dallas, Texas, dedicated to White Rock Lake Park's maintenance. In 2014, FTLOTL became of the view that the park's current playgrounds lacked accessibility for differently-abled children. Therefore, FTLOTL decided to undertake a renovation project of Flag Pole Hill playground to incorporate inclusiveness and diversity in the playground design. The overarching objective of this exploratory, ethnographic needs assessment was to provide insights for an inclusive playground using universal design for families with special needs children. Fourteen parents, each with at least one child having physical, social, or intellectual disabilities in the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) Texas metroplex were interviewed. The interviews were semi structured, each lasting for about an hour and were digitally recorded. Later these audio recordings were transcribed verbatim and then coded using Dedoose. The coded data was synthesized into coherent themes and sub-themes and finally organized into formal research findings. Observations were made of existing universally designed as well as typical playgrounds in this region. All parents interviewed supported the playground initiative and gave suggestions for physical accessibility along with social inclusion. They expressed their frustrations and apprehensions about the usability of current playgrounds. They also shared their preferences for facilities, features, and equipment to support their children's physical and social needs as well as their own. There was a unanimous agreement that a universally designed playground would have recreational, therapeutic and emotional benefits for participants and would improve the quality of their family lives and build a more closely-knit community.

The hypothesis underpinning this study is that within the Brazilian public health setting in the 1930s, public spaces, like the children s playgrounds, provided the scenario for actions aiming at the prevention of disease and promotion of health. Three different agendas could be identified as underlying the establishment of children s playgrounds in São Paulo: the one by the group around Paulo Duarte and Mário de Andrade pursued cultural and national identity interests. The second was prominently concerned with hygienic matters and corresponded to the ideals of the so-called Paula Souza Reform . Finally, the third agenda was the one of Nicanor Miranda, the director of the Division of Education and Recreation, which was based on a new and broad-scoped concept of physical education / O presente estudo analisa questões de interesse sanitário, num período em que novas concepções no campo da saúde pública eram desenvolvidas em São Paulo, tomando os parques infantis, entre 1935 e 1938, como estudo de caso. A hipótese norteadora desse estudo é que, dentro do contexto da saúde pública no Brasil, emergente na década de 1930, espaços públicos, tais como os parques infantis, tornaram-se um cenário para ações de prevenção de doenças e de promoção da saúde. Nesse sentido, três projetos diferentes puderam ser identificados à base do estabelecimento dos parques infantis de São Paulo: um como foco cultural e identitário, formulado pelo grupo ligado a Paulo Duarte e Mário de Andrade, um segundo com interesse eminente sanitário, correspondente aos ideias da chamada Reforma Paula Souza , e um terceiro, formulado pelo diretor da Divisão de Educação e Recreios, Nicanor Miranda, baseado num novo conceito, ampliado, da educação física.

Representations of the city in video games

This research strives to characterize the means by which video game players experience and understand the space of the game city during the course of play. Three-dimensional video game cities are neither static environments nor stationary views; rather, they are experienced through movement, action, and play. Our experiences of new places are not developed at a glance. Instead, they are cultivated through use over time. This work utilizes games that take place in constructed versions of New York City as a case study. By focusing on the ways players navigate spaces, we can understand how they construct spatial awareness and how this space is transformed into a meaningful place of play. In order to come to this understanding, this study asks a series of questions: How are these spaces arranged? How does the player move through the space and how does the game teach spatial navigation? What actions are performed in the space and how is gameplay adapted for the city environment? And how do of narrative environments contribute to a player's identification with the space? These questions are examined within a framework of urban, cultural, and game studies. I examine techniques that are employed by video game city designers to help players navigate space and make it meaningful. Additionally, this research poses areas for future expansion and experimentation with game cities.
