The Relationships Between College Aptitude, Race, College Hours Completed, and P-PST Scores for Education Students in Texas Public Colleges and Universities

Griffin, Annette T. (Annette Teer) 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships between the scores of students on the Pre-Professional Skills Test (P-PST) and the scores of students on college aptitude tests, the race of students and the number of college hours that students had completed. The subjects who participated in this study were education students who sought admittance to Texas public colleges and universities and took the P-PST in March, 1984. A total of 642 students participated in the study, 512 White or other, 48 Blacks and 82 Hispanics. P-PST scores, race, number of college hours completed, and college aptitude scores were obtained from the student's college or university as a result of the signed release forms each student completed at the March, 1984 testing date.

Pre-professionella balettdansares upplevelser och erfarenheter av dansrelaterade skador

Backlund, Hanna, Wallén, Frida January 2016 (has links)
Background: Ballet demands great physical skills on the dancer and injuries are common. Many dancers have had an injury before the start of their career. However, there is a limited amount of research on the impact of injuries and rehabilitation for pre-professional ballet dancers. Method: Qualitative exploratory design. Five pre-professional ballet dancers interviewed with semi-structured interviews. For data processing using a qualitative content analysis. Results: The analysis showed 4 categories and 9 subcategories that showed that pressure from the environment, unclear guidelines for the management and treatment of current injury influenced dance practice. Although uncertainty about the cause of the problem / injury created frustration, which in turn impact on the injury rehabilitation and dance practice. In addition to the physical consequences for dance practice the dancers also experienced psychological stress of not being able to practice the dance. Conclusion: Pre-professional ballet dancers are adversely affected both physically and psychologically by injury. It is required with more training in injury prevention and management today and needed to reduce the risk of injury, and in order to correctly treat a possible injury. Injuries have a significant impact on pre-professional ballet dancers perceived outlook, and could be handled earlier and in better order not to foreclose a possible continued dancing career.

An Investigation of the Efficacy of Direct and Indirect AAC Service Provision via Telepractice

Hall, Nerissa 01 May 2013 (has links)
There is a growing population of individuals using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) in need of evidence-based intervention from highly qualified personnel. However, not all speech pathology programs offer AAC coursework and/or practicum opportunities, and practicing speech-language pathologists (SLPs) report low levels of confidence and expertise in working with individuals using AAC. Therefore, there is a need to develop more innovative pre-professional training programs to better equip the next generation of SLPs with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality, evidence-based AAC interventions. Telepractice is emerging as an inventive way to provide both direct and indirect intervention services, and could theoretically be used to support pre-professional training by providing clinicians the opportunity to engage in direct services with individuals using AAC concurrently while receiving supervision from a skilled mentor. A thorough review of the literature revealed limited information and data regarding tele-AAC for direct and indirect service delivery. This investigation examined the feasibility and effectiveness of utilizing telepractice to train pre-professional clinicians regarding AAC interventions while in the context of service delivery both on-site and via telepractice. A single-subject, multiple baseline design was employed to examine the impact of real-time supervisory guidance offered via telepractice to pre-professional clinicians (Active Consultation) on the performance of the clinicians and the clients in each service delivery condition. Data was gathered on the number of target language acts modeled by the clinicians and generated by the clients when Active Consultation was provided. The results supported the use of telepractice for supervision, and as a service delivery method for AAC users.

Reichenbachia, Imperial Edition: Rediscovering Frederick Sander’s Late-Victorian Masterpiece of Botanical Art

Borey, Erica 03 December 2013 (has links)
This thesis project examines the history, provenance, and contemporary treatment of a rare Imperial Edition of Frederick Sander’s print collection Reichenbachia, Orchids Illustrated and Described, a high-quality orchid compendium dating to the late-nineteenth century. A local philanthropist loaned the Imperial Edition Reichenbachia, number 86 of 100 to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in 2011 on a long-term basis as a promised donation. Research into the origins of this collection involves several disparate historical topics, including the Victorian period of “orchid mania,” imperialist business practices, and chromolithographic printmaking. Discussion of the transition of this collection into a museum art collection covers its consequent registration, conservation, and exhibition. Finally, this thesis project considers the advantages and disadvantages of managing an art collection at a botanical garden.
