The management of competitiveness in organizations has the prerogative to deliver the best results in a way that guarantees the growth and sustainability of an institution. To do so, knowing the scenario in which it is inserted and the dynamics of the sector is essential for the success of this journey. Several and important actors make up the hospital world, but it is in the figure of the doctor the power by the decision of the hospitalization of a patient, when this becomes necessary. At that moment, the doctor exerts great influence on the definition of the hospital institution in which the patient will be hospitalized. The opportunity presented here, therefore, was about the perspective of listening to the doctor in a structured way, to be able to understand what is important for this professional when he analyzes a hospital institution, as well as the evaluation made to the hospital that was the object of the research. Thus, we have proposed here an instrument for evaluating the doctor's opinion on important factors in the hospital decision for the hospitalization of a patient. Additionally, this instrument was applied in a case study, in a large private hospital in the southern part of the municipality of São Paulo. The proposed instrument was effective in detecting important factors. It was noted that these factors of importance can be evaluated in specific cases, such as the hospital under study. In the hospital under study, the factors 'Excellence in patient care', 'System that guarantees ethical medical practice' and 'Focus on patient safety' are those that interfere in decision making by the physician in the moment of the patient’s indication of a hospital for hospitalization. It is therefore recommended that this research instrument be applied in other private hospitals to increase competitiveness, benefit of hospital management and economic sustainability.

Self-assessment of managerial competencies of nurse managers in South Africa - identifying the skills gapsZechner, Solveig Antonia January 2008 (has links)
Magister Commercii - MCom / Broad access to healthcare services is a key factor of human development in any country. The current health care situation in South Africa can be diagnosed as critical. The hospitals are understaffed, over-occupied and the diseases like Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) give health care workers additional challenges. The demand for management skills in the health sector including those for nurse managers is high. A recent World Health Organization (WHO) study of nurses working in maternal health services identified good management as more important than salary, unless the remuneration was dramatically higher. In South Africa, little empirical research exists about the management skills of nurse managers, even though proper management of human resources is vital to achieve better outcomes and access to health care around the world. In South Africa, a greater focus on human resource management in health care and more research is needed to develop new policies that will help to address the skills gap of nurse managers. The object of this research project was to identify the gaps between required and existing management skills of senior nurse managers in South Africa in private and public hospitals. Once identified, this skills gap assessment can be used by employers and policy-makers to define the management education that nurse managers require. The research is based on a survey of nurse managers in private and public hospitals using a questionnaire. The survey instrument was based on prior research of hospital managers' competencies in South Africa, and a review of the related theoretical literature. / South Africa

The experiences of professional nurses in providing compassionate patient care in a private hospital in Gauteng, South Africa : a qualitative narrative analysisBaker, Leona Marianne 02 1900 (has links)
Compassionate care is a crucial component of patient care in nursing practice in the broad context of holistic care. However, it is seemingly difficult for nurses to identify what exactly comprises compassionate care and how to provide it to patients. The purpose of the study was to explore the experiences of professional nurses on how they provide compassionate patient care. A qualitative descriptive study design based on narrative analysis was used. Thirteen professional nurses (PNs) from a private hospital were purposefully recruited to participate. Data was collected using written stories and professional lifelines. Data was analysed using thematic and narrative analysis. The following themes were identified such as treating the patient as a whole, inadequate knowledge and skills, and barriers to providing compassionate care. Future research using quantitative approach and large samples was recommended. / Health Studies / M.A. (Health Studies)

Corporate Governance is a current subject of great relevance. Codes of good practice act as a reference and as a guideline for all companies, but each type of organization has peculiarities in terms of governance. The importance of the issue is limited to publicly traded companies, due to the lack of tools that compare the evolution of privately held companies. The present study was organized from a qualitative methodology and aims to raise existing instruments for corporate governance evaluation, verify if they meet the specific characteristics of a private non-profit hospital and submit a proposal for an evaluation, more appropriate to the particularities of the organization under study: an association.

An investigation into the implementation of an emergency unit triage system in a selected private hospitalAugustyn, Jean Elisabeth 30 November 2006 (has links)
Triage assessment of patients on arrival at the emergency unit is an essential function in quality emergency care provision. Triage is the process of sorting and prioritising patients according to their level of acuity. This study was performed within an emergency unit that experienced serious problems with the sorting of patients on their arrival. After implementation of the Cape Triage Score, a questionnaire was distributed amongst staff utilising the new triage system. The investigation sought to answer specific questions concerning the triage nurse's roles, competencies required and strengths and weaknesses of the implemented system. The study also suggests guidelines to improve the triage system within the unit.
The triage system was received well by participants. The roles of the triage nurse are multifaceted and extensive competencies are required. The strengths of the implemented triage system outweighed the weaknesses as perceived by the respondents. Guidelines for implementing triage in emergency units are provided. / Health Studies / M.A. (Health Studies)

hospitale in Pretoria ingesamel.
as belangrik in verpleegbestuur beskou.
sorg in verpleegbestuur waargeneem.
te spreek / In this study the importance of caring in nursing management was researched.
