Design for Recordkeeping: Areas of ImprovementBorglund, Erik A.M. January 2008 (has links)
This thesis is about problems related to design of information systems in which records are born and managed. The proactive approach has been derived from new archival theories suited for electronic recordkeeping, and implies that electronic records must, at the time of creation fulfil their current and future requirements. Information systems where records are born and managed should, based upon a proactive approach, meet recordkeeping requirements. This thesis is based upon a four-year research effort and consists of seven research articles that present the results of the research. The objective is to contribute to knowledge of design recommendations for information systems, in which records are born and managed. The main result of this thesis is identification of five areas that can affect and improve the design of information systems in which records are born and managed. First: A set of empirically and theoretical grounded characteristics of records are presented. Those characteristics have to be complemented with organization-defined characteristics. Second: this research has contributed a conceptualization of use of records and users of records. The notion of known use/user, and unknown use/user has been introduced. Design becomes difficult because requirements of unknown users are difficult to conceptualize. Third: The Recordkeeping Quality Assessment model (RQAM) is presented. The model implies a holistic quality approach to recordkeeping, and intends to be used as a basis for quality assessment, and as a reference model in design situations to achieve high recordkeeping quality. Fourth: Two dominant different views on records are presented. Private organizations appraise records principally upon business values, and public organisations base their appraisal criteria upon accountability and legislative values. The two views on records should be brought into one view and form a risk management-like appraisal. Fifth: Proactivity is a way of thinking and should be applied on several levels in the recordkeeping environment: to the electronic record, to the information system where the electronic record is born and managed, to the organization, and to the user.

Proactive personality, stress and voluntary work behaviorsRodopman, Ozgun Burcu 01 June 2006 (has links)
The present study has two primary contributions to the existing literature linking stressors to employee reactions. First, job satisfaction and emotional exhaustion are proposed to mediate the relationship between stressors and both forms of voluntary workplace behaviors, specifically OCB and CWB. A comprehensive framework, which includes both streams of voluntary workplace behaviors (OCB and CWB) will expand the common practice of investigating them separately and helps us better understand the parallel mechanisms linked to OCB and CWB. Secondly, the role of proactive personality will be investigated to gain insights into how it relates to job attitudes and voluntary work behaviors. We will have new look at the dispositional antecedents of OCB and CWB by investigating how proactive people react, feel, and behave in the organizational context.

Apprenance et proactivité : élaboration d'instruments et analyse des liens inter attitudinaux / Learnance and proactivity : development of instruments of measurement and analysis of inter-attitudinal linksJore, Maxime 20 June 2012 (has links)
Faced with the challenges of globalization, Europe wishes to distinguish itself by developing a knowledge society in which the individual becomes a knowledge worker. Within this context, Europe would like that all postgraduate students will be able to learn with autonomy and to act as an entrepreneur in organizations. The analysis we have conducted concerns the study of the correlation between a positive attitude to learning called “learnance” and a positive attitude to entrepreneurial action. This supposes that in the near future, post-graduate students will need to focus on elaborating a lifelong learning strategy, and at the same time manage their career-building projects. After contributing actively to the development and adaptation of two scales measuring the learnance and the Proactive Personality Scale, the author of this research begins by validating the operational nature of these two measuring instruments. Then he makes a quantitative study of the manifestation of these attitudes among students in three areas of specialization on two levels of study. These observations lead us to note that the attitude of learnance, which can be defined as a cognitive curiosity involving emotion, is distinct from the attitude of proactivity, which implies a specific act involving anticipatory, controlled action and a taste for challenge. However, learnance with the degree of a proactive attitude will enable us to better characterize a readiness to self-directed learning. These two attitudes share an enthusiastic disposition to change, openness towards opportunities and a reinforcing of attitude by the presence of appropriate behaviour.

The effective introduction of sustainability in business requires actions that go beyond organizational boundaries, encompassing the inter-organizational environment. Thus, companies are no longer considered individually; they are analyzed according to their supply chains, composed by organizations that contribute to the achievement of the same performance goals. A supply chain is considered more sustainable when it enters the economic, environmental and social dimensions in their operations, strategies and decision making, possessing good levels of performance on these dimensions. The incorporation of sustainability practices in supply chain can be analyzed in a continuous, formed by two extremes: reactive and proactive response. The sustainable proactivity can be defined as the adoption of actions, performed voluntarily by companies, in order to improve the environmental and social performance beyond legal requirements. A proactive company states its concern and commitment to society and the natural environment in which it operates. Given these considerations, this research premise is: the proactive approach of companies towards sustainable practices encourages better integration with the partners in their supply chain, which contributes to the incorporation of sustainability in the supply chain. In this context, this research aims to analyze the contribution of proactive company integration with its partners to the introduction of sustainability in their supply chain. Therefore, a qualitative research was performed, composed by two phases (exploratory and descriptive), involving a proactive focal company and its supply chain partners. It is emphasized that, because of the complexity and the extent of supply chains, we chose to analyze the upstream chain, i.e., focal company (Mercur S.A.) and supplier firms (LKC Transportes; PAMF Indústria e Comércio de Confecções; Caeté Embalagens; and Artecola Química). The employees of these companies were interviewed. First, it was analyzed the proactivity of sustainable practices of Mercur. The results indicate that Mercur can be considered a proactive company, due to the full adoption of 37 actions for sustainability in the core business of the organization and the partial implementation of six practices. Secondly, it was investigated the integration and the relationship of a proactive company with its supply chain partners. It was found that the interviewees consider that the supply chain is in process of a complete integration. Thus, it can be observed that there are different levels of integration in the supply chain, involving the Mercur and their suppliers. Thirdly, it was examined the existence of sustainable practices throughout the supply chain. These practices were described considering five categories of analysis (strategic orientation, supply chain continuity, collaboration, risk management, and proactivity). Incentives were identified for the design and the implementation of sustainable practices by all supply chain members, contributing to a more sustainable development. From this perspective, given the results, it is assumed that the research premise was confirmed, since the proactive sustainable practices Mercur encourages greater integration with partners in the supply chain, contributing to the sustainable supply chain. However, the integration of Mercur with partners can also encourage that proactive practices in favor of sustainability be incorporated in the supply chain.

Shaping proactivity : Designing interactions with proactive ambient artefactsZomer, Manuel January 2021 (has links)
This thesis aims to explore how to shape proactive interactions between ambient artefacts and humans. Where ambient artefacts are represented by smart personal assistants and interactive tabletop robots. The conducted research is of explorative nature, relying on a critical and speculative design approach. Key aspects and their influence in shaping proactivity were identified. Insights upon different means of feedback, namely coloured light, motion and sound are discussed in connection with the spatial placement of a proactive artefact and the provided user experience. The notion of gaining versus losing control to an artefact is presented and a reflection on the concept of annoyance as a design material. A proactive system featuring a collection of physical and digital interactive artefacts was created as part of this research. Insights and conclusions are based on conducted interviews after user-testing those artefacts.

Long-term HIV Survivors' Beliefs about Aging and a CureBrewer, Geary William 01 January 2016 (has links)
Prior to 1996, the prognosis of HIV disease was near-certain death; however, biomedical advancements in the past 20 years established HIV as a chronic manageable disease with a nearly normal life span. Recent advancements suggest the potential for a cure. One outcome of current medical treatments is that 50% of all HIV positive individuals are older (-?¥ 50years), and a substantial number of those individuals are long-term (-?¥ 20 years) survivors. Existing research Qualitative research has provided little insight about what older long-term HIV survivors believe about their disease circumstances and aging with the disease. A qualitative method in the phenomenological tradition was used to explore older long-term HIV survivors' notions about aging with HIV and an HIV cure. The self-regulation model of illness representations and the preventive and corrective, proactivity (PCP) model of aging with HIV disease for older adults guided the study. Using strategically placed flyers in HIV services environments, 12 older long-term HIV survivors volunteered to describe their beliefs about aging with HIV and an HIV cure. Participants' statements were entered into discrete cells in an electronic spreadsheet (Excel) and were coded, sorted, and categorized. The categories were sorted for commonality, and emergent themes and subthemes were identified. Older long-term HIV survivors believed they had few issues aging with HIV, expected to live a long time, and believed that finding a cure would have little effect on their lives. These research findings may be beneficial to healthcare providers and researchers who provide quality of life interventions and information to older adults living long-term with HIV who are concerned about aging, longevity, and a cure.

[pt] LIDERANÇA VIRTUOSA E PROATIVIDADE: O PAPEL MEDIADOR DA RELAÇÃO LÍDER-LIDERADO (LMX) / [en] VIRTUOUS LEADERSHIP AND, PROACTIVITY: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF THE LEADER-FOLLOWER RELATIONSHIP (LMX)CLAUDIO EDUARDO ALMEIDA MANNARINO 14 September 2021 (has links)
[en] Faced with so many unexpected changes in the global scenario, the biggest implications are for people and organizations. This is because the imposition of anticipating problems and reacting to changes is increasing. Due to this new context in which organizations are inserted, it is necessary for leaders to get closer and closer to those They followers, so that it is possible to respond to the elements in proactive way, taking into account indivisual diferences, diversity of thoughts, the way in which meanings are assigned and ways of dealing with the new. Faced with these challanges, this study aims to verify how the leader s virtues and the LMX relationship are associated with proactivity. The presente study was carried out thought quatitative research, based on a questionnaire ansewered by 82 professionals from a paper converting industry located in the state of Rio de Janeiro – Brasil. The findings suggest that the leader s virtues are positively related to the LMX relationship, with emphasis on courage and justice, and that it positively affects the employees proactivity. The study also applied the participants psychological capital as a control variable, a fator with a high impact on the relationship studied in this dissetation.

Proactivity at workAndersson, Kin January 2015 (has links)
Proactive behaviour implies taking initiative and mastering unexpected situations, and hence, is desirable in different situations. The present thesis includes three empirical studies intended to understand the consequences of proactive behaviour, as well as the factors that contribute to proactive behaviour at work and when facing unemployment. More specifically, whether job design, as measured by objective work task analysis, provides conditions conducive to proactivity in the workplace and when facing unemployment. The results of proactive behaviour during unemployment were also of interest. Study I focused on the influence of job design on individuals’ personal initiative and confidence in their ability when facing unemployment. Participants were employees at a downsizing Swedish assembly plant. Confidence in one’s ability mediated the relationship between job design and personal initiative, and personal initiative affected job search behaviour when advised to be dismissed. Study II, a longitudinal exploration, focused on the predictors of re-employment in the same group as in Study I. Men were more than nine times as likely as women to obtain jobs within 15 months. Individuals without children were more than seven times as likely as those with children to find work within 15 months. The desire to change occupation and willingness to relocate also increased the probability of being re-employed, whereas anonymous-passive job-search behaviour and work-related self-efficacy actually decreased the probability of re-employment. The number of job applications did not impact later re-employment. Study III analysed job design as a predictor of group initiative and self-organisational activities in semiautonomous industrial work groups. An input-process-output model showed that group processes such as reflexivity mediated the impact of job design on proactivity in work groups. Taken together, these studies suggest that work task analysis a useful tool, since it provides access to information that cannot be obtained with self-report measures. Job design indirectly affected proactivity both in the face of unemployment, and in industrial work groups. Further, it is worthwhile to continue identifying the antecedents and consequences of proactivity, as this seems to be an important factor regarding work and unemployment.

Proactivity in the workplace: The role of flow in the relationship between proactivity and subjective well-beingSleiman Haidar, Sarah 19 March 2019 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Psychological Sciences / Clive J. A. Fullagar / In the constantly changing world of work, employees are expected to be proactive by taking initiative and being self-starting, future focused, and change oriented. Consequently, research around proactivity has grown exponentially over the last two decades. However, the relationship with employee well-being has been widely neglected. This research addressed this gap by investigating the dynamics between employee proactivity and subjective well-being, while taking work-related flow into account. With the use of a diary method, this study provided support that proactivity is not necessarily a burden on psychological well-being. Instead, proactivity in its dispositional and behavioral form of task crafting, was found to have a direct impact on optimal work experiences and well-being outcomes such as subjective vitality and positive affect. Acknowledging the complexity of the relationships, this study also tested mediated and moderated paths and provided several theoretical and practical contributions.
