Evolving Light

Naik, Mahima January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to broaden the horizon of customizable features available in the luminaire design industry. The aim was to study if enhanced customization features like light distribution, colour of light and use of sustainable materials can help foster emotional attachment and increased usage with the possibility of extending luminaire life. The conclusion here is drawn based on literature review, survey, prototype development and user experiment followed by assessment questionnaire. The table lamp prototype created allowed participants to change colour of light, materials and light distribution of the luminaire according to their mood and preferences. The study indicates these enhanced customization features positively influenced the participants mood, ambience and usage of the product. The survey and user assessment were both qualitative and quantitative in nature. However, all the data collected was quantified for a better understanding of the impact these enhanced features had on the participants. The participants felt a sense of ownership, satisfaction, and accomplishment because of the customization process. As a result, participants say they would prefer repair and replacement over disposal and would want to keep using the luminaire for a long time. The study concluded that enhanced customization features in luminaries can foster emotional connections, increase longevity, and promote sustainable consumption.

Internacionalização e marketing: fatores de influência na decisão sobre customização de produtos / Internationalization and marketing: factors of influence in decision on products customization

Jussani, Ailton Conde 11 February 2014 (has links)
Innovation in products and processes can be the difference between success and failure to sell products in other countries. Within this perspective, technology management is highlighted as an alternative, less expensive and faster, to customize products for new markets. The study on the decision to customize products in international markets is especially important for organizations that decide to open a subsidiary in another country by way of purchasing a business or building their own facilities. Whatever the decision, the company is exposed to international risks and high costs; which leads to reduce them on global basis. In this context, a company needs to decide which products to customize for the country in question and which products to standardize for sale other countries. The overall objective of this research is to identify, with respect to the marketing activities of an international company, the factors that influence decisions related to the customization of industrial products and of consumer products for a particular country. Thus, a literature review gathered information on the topics of: internationalization, international marketing, decision on product customization and product customization factors - the theoretical basis for the research. Regarding the methodological aspects, in the qualitative first phase, were conducted four exploratory case studies, at two American companies and two European companies. As a result, it was elaborated a ranking of factors considered essentials in deciding on customization of products: 1st Characteristics of the customer (B2B) / consumer (B2C); 2nd Sustainable Return On Investment; 3rd Sustainable income; 4th Legislative requirements; 5th Other products sales in the portfolio; 6th Differences in weather. Subsequently, the quantitative second phase, based on the empirical case studies, a survey was elaborated and applied online. As a result of the online survey, it was obtained 123 valid records of a willful non-probability sampling. The results have suggested differences in the factors of influence in decision on product customization ranking. Other findings have derived from research: factors related to the distribution logistics of tangible products should be considered in deciding customization; tangible products have great load of associated services, both B2B and B2C markets. It is expected from these results, a step forward in contributing to future studies about decision on product customization.

Chatras, Clément 01 April 2016 (has links)
Nowadays, the automotive sector faces the mass customization paradox. The end-product diversity is constantly increasing as the customer can customize more and more product features. The component variety that Supply Chains must deal with, results from the end-product variety to make. Though variety cost is hard to measure, variety has a great impact on the economic performance of today's manufacturers. In the automotive sector, a large portion of these costs are due to the great amount of constraints between components. On an operational point of view, these constraints lead to difficulties in the establishment of Bills of Materials. In this thesis, we define a new approach that describes the variety within Bills of Materials. In addition, in order to limit the inflation of component variety to manage, companies should improve continuously their design and manufacturing processes. The use of a modular architecture should allow to reduce the number of constraints between components and as a consequence, to reduce the component variety. The success of the application of such architecture depends on some prerequisites that we also focus on in this thesis. Finally, as component variety might result also from local interests in design phases, this thesis proposes also a model that aims at standardizing both modules and their components that is based on a global economic perspective.

Lema Córdova, Ángela Sofía, Benavides Novoa, Juan Luis 03 December 2020 (has links)
The present research work aims to analyze the relationship of the after-sales actions applied by companies and the relationship that exists with the satisfaction of consumers in the restaurant sector. The most relevant actions that were considered are the post-sale action of delivery, guarantee, product customization and the response capacity of the company to the consumer. To carry out the objective, a quantitative analysis will be used with the execution of 384 participants of the target audience for the development of surveys determined based on a 95% confidence level and a 5% error through a form adapted based on the Likert scale with ranges from 1 to 5 coding the levels of satisfaction from "completely dissatisfied" to "completely satisfied" respectively. It has been found that the consequence that these variables have on consumers influences their satisfaction with the company where they purchased the product or service. Within the scope and limitations found for this research, changes in consumer consumption habits, the reduction of activities in restaurants by 93.78% and the reduction of income in the sector, which are 40% of their potential despite to the delivery impulse, due to the confinement caused by SARS-CoV.19 since March 2020. / Trabajo de investigación
