A gestão do desenvolvimento de produtos na indústria de materiais de construção / The management of product development in the industry of construction materials

Daniela Dutra da Costa 14 August 2008 (has links)
This study tries to improve the knowledge of the management of new products development in the industry of construction materials. Despite the vast literature on the management of the development of the products, there is still a gap in this subject related to the sector. For this reason, this study also tries to identify the degree of formalization, the phases and the characteristics of the management of the products in the industry of construction material, as well as the convergences and divergences between the practical cases and the literature studied. The empirical development of this research was based upon the compilation of the chief models of management of the process of creation, as well as the mapping of the sector of the industry of construction materials. In its turn, the empirical development had as its base a qualitative, prevailingly exploratory, research, based on the technique of study of multiple cases, counting on a sample of four companies: Perflex, Deca, Cecrisa and Tigre. It was verified that there is a reasonable degree of disparity between what the relevant literature states and what it is done in the target companies; nevertheless, there are some excellent contributions that can be taken into consideration. It was noticed that in this industrial sector derivative projects prevail, many oriented to topological projects; that the process of capture of ideas and information carried out by Cecrisa and by Tigre is different from that of the other companies, getting the most varied information; that in the face of the conceptual development of the product Cecrisa stands out for inserting testimonials of experts on the image of the line and the up-dated character of the idea, which may be used in the advertising pieces. It also stands out in the assembling of the products for doing it in the initial phases using raw material and the final productive process. Deca, Cecrisa and Tigre make the internal launching of the product, differing from others by the form of doing it, and for the effect that no similar case has been found in the relevant literature that includes this phase into the process. It is important to note the lack of application of some of Clark and Wheelwright\'s principles (1993) in the companies studied. This target companies differ largely from the companies used in the research of the authors mentioned, for they are small companies with smaller hierarchical distances, where formal and informal meetings taken place, constantly, for discussions and clarifications about projects. With this study it was possible to learn about the reality of the construction materials industries, which, by the way, is not badly off; on the contrary, it is up to date with the new concepts of the theme of this study, the management of new products development, with a process and a formal and organized structure.

Laidens, Graziela January 2007 (has links)
The Product Development Process (PDP) is the essence of new knowledge creation in any industry. There is no doubt that the human resources’ abilities and expertise are improved by investments and efforts towards projects that bring higher levels of creative capacity, decision making support and better procedures implementation support. And it’s clear that improving the human resources’ level of competence interferes in the final product result. The present dissertation shows a tool integration conceptual model that assists PDP especially in the food industry. One of the main ideas is to emphasize the tool’s application in an associated manner, considering some Knowledge Management (KM) principles. This model was built based on a PDP’s referential model for the food industry. Some tools were selected from the food industry’s literature in order to allocate the tools in the proposed model. After, the tools were analyzed with a knowledge creation point of view. The relation between PDP and KM showed in this dissertation is important to explain the relevance of creating, using, sharing and registering the knowledge, which is a corporate memory’s part that usually exists in the industry in a non-structured way. In this context, the PDP’s tools are able to convert the knowledge, turning it from tacit into explicit and reciprocally. The Research and Development Department’s manager of a confidential company validated the proposed model. According to the interviewing results, it was considered that the model is executable, easy to apply and its use brings advantages to the PDP. Also, it was evident that there is a relation among the model’s application, the company’s maturity phase and the investments in the employee’s capabilities.

Campos, Samanta Ullmann de January 2009 (has links)
This work presents a reference model for the milling wheat product development process. The model targets to facilitate the project of new products, evaluating the necessity, requirements and limitations of the sector. It contributes for better results in costs, quality, development time, integration among functional areas, and proper information transfer. The reference model proposed was elaborated from knowledge acquired in product development literature research, diagnosis from the internal and external milling industry environment, study about two medium size milling company and a questionnaire filed up by their suppliers. The model is oriented from seven policies, which aim to define managing practices to conduce the products development process (PDP) through the expected goals and the desired particularities. The operational structure of the model is composed by three macro-phases and eight phases, enclosing from product portfolio planning to the end of product life in the market. These phases are divided in activities and tasks, where model's support tools can be used to generate the output information necessary to the advance of the project. At the end of each phase, the main information is compiled in form of a document, which must pass by a top management evaluation gate. Top management decides between: continuing, discontinuing the project, or review the phase. The reference model application was planned to systemize milling wheat companies' PDP. The intervention to adapt the reference model to the company presented the following stages: analyse the actual status of the PDP, propose improvements, and conduct model application. Among the main results, stand out the facility to apply the proposed solutions to improve the company's PDP using the reference model. Showing that the reference model is easy to adapt and implement in milling wheat companies. It was also possible to figure out that the model is founded in the integrated product development methodology, where the integrated data base allow information and know-how transfer during the development process, proportioning improvement of the organization structure.

Increasing information sharing during new product development projects

Eliasson, Mathilda, Azrak, Helena January 2019 (has links)
Purpose – The purpose of the research is to increase the understanding of how insufficient information sharing between internal stakeholders can be mitigated during new product development projects. Two research questions were formulated to conduct answers to the purpose.  Why is it crucial to mitigate insufficient information sharing between internal stakeholders during new product development projects? How can potential challenges during new product development projects be mitigated through information sharing between internal stakeholders? Method – To create an understanding of information sharing a literature review was conducted, which formed the foundation of the theoretical framework. Through a case study at SAAB Training & Simulation, interviews were used as the main source for empirical data. Document studies and observations were used to triangulate the findings. The collected data and theoretical framework were analyzed and discussed to propose improvements. Findings – The research findings indicate that an insufficient information flow can cause several challenges related to deadlines, profit and how information is interpreted. It should therefore be a prioritization for an organization to constantly improve how information is shared between internal stakeholders during new product development projects. Additionally, the research analysis suggests that organizations’ need to allocate more time for educational opportunities. Implications – The research highlighted a new perspective on previous research within the area. Through the research analysis statements and theories made by other researchers were further strengthened. The research suggests ways of improving information sharing between internal stakeholders. The result can be used by other industrial organizations working with new product development projects to improve their information sharing to mitigate challenges connected to insufficient information sharing. Limitations – Due to the complexity of information sharing within new product development projects, the research was limited to one case company. Additionally, mainly managers were interviewed which posed a risk that the collected data only provided an overview rather than a deep insight in the processes of sharing information between internal stakeholders. If the authors were to use several organizations and conduct more interviews, the results could increase the credibility and generalizability of the research.

Gabrielsson, Jonas January 2011 (has links)
Lean Product Development is a knowledge-based business concept in order to maintain high quality, meetcustomer requirements and to make product development more efficient. An important part of the processis to add a lot of resources at an early stage and execute the development as an iterative process betweendepartments exploring many alternatives thoroughly. The work focuses on how Lean ProductDevelopment is carried out and explores how to manage interaction between different departments andexpertise with regard to cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing i.e. learning. The information for the studies was gathered at a major Swedish company from two projects. The projectswere carried out as cross-functional and possible key factors for cross-functional collaboration wasidentified. The results have been correlated with theories of Lean, Product development, Lean product developmentand Learning. The analysis shows that to carry out activities according to Lean product development willrequire more than to follow the concept’s framework for successful implementation. Factors that areidentified as important in cross-functional collaboration is also recognised in the Lean productdevelopment theory. However the theory does not indicate how the factors is implemented and carried outbut how it should be implemented. This will create opportunities and problems for companies that want towork and implement Lean product development.

Development of Spring Wire Feeder : Design for Spring Manufacturing with Coarse Spring Wire / Utveckling av fjädertrådsmatare : Konstruktion för fjädertillverkning med grov fjädertråd

Similä, Martin January 2021 (has links)
Lesjöfors Fjädrar AB is a spring manufacturing company. At the start of each manufacturing process when manufacturing cold coiled compression springs, the operators manually feed the spring wire from a reel that contains the raw spring wire, into the machine where the springs are made. This is a demanding process for the operators. The largest diameter of the spring wire today is 18 mm. Lesjöfors Fjädrar AB wants to increase the diameter to 22 mm and needs a new construction that allows feeding coarser spring wire from the reel into the machine. Trips were made to the factory in Lesjöfors where interviews and observations were made. A survey was conducted to gather information about the current process, as well as ideas for a new construction. With the information gathered, a requirement specification was made and approved by Lesjöfors Fjädrar AB. A brainstorming meeting was held at Rejlers Sverige AB in Karlstad with experienced constructors. The concepts generated during the meeting together with concepts generated alone were combined and evaluated using eliminations matrices and relative decision matrices. The highest ranked concept secures the spring wire with a hook inside the reel and extracts the spring wire with the help of a lift system. The lift system consists of a ball screw and an electric motor. After extraction, the spring wire is secured by two rollers before it is fed towards the machine by the electric motor currently installed on the reel. Along the way to the machine, the spring wire is steered/aligned by two pipes. The final concept was modeled in Autodesk Inventor Professional 2018 where the concept was designed in more detail. A stress analysis was conducted as a final step in the design phase. The final construction withstands the forces from the spring wire and makes it possible for Lesjöfors Fjädrar AB to start manufacturing cold coiled compression springs with a diameter of 22 mm, following the new working sequence made in this project.

Design of breast roll retraction system : Redesign of keyway solution for positioning of breast roll in tissue machine / Konstruktion för uppbärning av bröstvals : Omkonstruktion av kilspårslösning för positionering av bröstvals i tissuemaskin

Sjöberg, Tobias January 2022 (has links)
This Thesis has been carried out as a final part of the Mechanical Engineering programme (180 credits) at Karlstad University during the spring semester 2022 and comprises 22.5 credits. The work is carried out on behalf of Valmet AB in Karlstad. At the beginning of a tissue machine, a mixture of fibres and water is fed into the machine and formed into a sheet using a forming wire and felt. During maintenance work, the wire sometimes needs to be detached from the machine. In order to release the forming wire, the breast roll retraction system needs to be opened up, which is done using an arm with the breast roll attached to it. This arm can rotate upwards, taking the breast roll with it, and when this is opened, the forming wire can be removed. In the hinge that this arm is attached to there is a gap, in addition to the gap the arm can be bent slightly. When the arm is returned to its original position after replacing of the forming wire, this gap and bending creates some problems. The problem is that the arm needs to return to its original position with great precision to avoid unnecessary adjustments. This is currently done using keys with angled walls and to lock the position eye bolts with associated nuts. The manufacturing of this solution has been identified as expensive due to tight tolerances and the angled walls of the keys and keyways. The aim of this project is to make the design cheaper to manufacture through design modification of this positioning and locking mechanism.Through a feasibility study regarding the current design and manufacturing method a deeper understanding of the function and machining was gained. The project has followed a structured product development process, from pre-study through requirements specification, concept generation and evaluation to detailed design. A requirement specification was developed using the results of the feasibility study together with information from Valmet employees. Two concept generation sessions were conducted, the 6-3-5 method and morphological matrix, these were done together with people at Valmet with different experiences. For concept evaluation and selection, Harris profile and relative decision matrix were used, these were conducted after consultation with experienced people at Valmet. The best concept is a design change that eliminates the milled angled walls in the keyway on the arm. These are replaced by a cylindrical pocket and a threaded hole. A corresponding change is made to the bracket against which the arm rests. Instead of the keys used today, two turned parts with a conical contact surface between them are proposed. This solution achieves all the requirements of the requirements specification as well as all the wishes except that it should fit similar fastening elements in other sections of the machine. The explanation for this is that the other fastening elements have slightly different functions which the proposed solution does not take into account. The price difference between the current design and the design proposed by the project has been obtained by a subcontractor providing price proposals for both.

Sipan, Kandemir, Mazlum, Sahin January 2018 (has links)
ÖMV AB ingår i OSTP Group Company. / In collaboration with the Royal Institute of Technology, the commissioner ÖMV AB has designed an assignment relating to one of their former main products, the fiber filter. ÖMV AB is part of OSTP Group Company. Through commitment and modern technology, ÖMV AB designs, manufactures and develops advanced process equipment that contributes to a sustainable future. The company's main products are reactors, heat exchangers, cisterns and tanks. Plans to resume fiber filter manufacturing as one of the company's previous products are current, but the previous concept should be reviewed and developed to meet the customer's wishes. The current concept is considered to contain shortcomings and there are areas that may need to be improved, development will be carried out with regard to both design and also how the product is adapted for user safety. Today's fiber filters are used in the paper and pulp industry, its purpose is to separate pulp into fibers and water to prevent the fibers from being released into watercourses. The aim of this work is to develop at least three alternative manufacturing methods for an improved support structure, including developing the fiber filter gaps that are currently considered to expose the user to risks, at least two concepts must be developed that comply with the Machinery Directive. The development of fiber filters will be done using a number of systematic product development methods, the different solutions will be analyzed and modeled in a computer-aided design tool called Creo.

Minell, Jasmine January 2015 (has links)
Today it is hard for companies to keep a strong market position and one part of the challenge is to regularly present new products on the market and constantly create new innovations.  The companies can accept that challenge by using Lean Product Development in the product development process. It can however be more difficult for small and medium sized enterprises as they may have limited resources. The purpose with this study was therefore to develop a project model for product development in small and medium sized enterprises. The study was built on qualitative research methodologies, first secondary data was collected through both the Mid Sweden University’s library catalog and searches in research databases on the Internet. Then, the primary data was collected through interviews to create a case study and a theoretical applicability test. The generated result showed that it characterizes the product development in small and medium sized enterprises primarily was that the manager or owner often affect the product development and the key factors for a successful product development was processes, resources, strategies and a good communication. The final project model are in general based on the general project model and did not underwent any major changes after the theoretical applicability test had been carried out. The project model consists of five phases: feasibility study, planning, implementation, closing and effect transfer. All of the presented project models could work to create processes, resources, strategies and a good communication. The mention project models differ slightly in the design and they are focusing on different areas. The differences in the models are the roles and responsibilities descriptions, decision points and the models different phases. The newsworthy this study has contribute with is how small and medium sized enterprises can work on projects in product, and one question that has been raised is how this project model could look like to promote the whole organization not only the product development departure.
