Chaves, Maria Aparecida Gomes January 2019 (has links)
The theme has been taken up with force in the change of the new government of Brazil becoming a controversial and inexhaustible subject. Law 10.216 / 01, named Paulo Delgado Law, officially decrees psychiatric reform, whose first discussions began in the 1970s. With so many debates and discussions about and after the Manifesto of Bauru, on the Antimanicomial Struggle in 1987 with the theme "For a Society Without Asylums" and the First National Conference on Mental Health held in Brasília in the same year, these movements became a milestone for the beginning of the psychiatric reform, which seeks to humanize the mental health treatments. Law to date, several changes have been adopted in the provision of mental health services and many Brazilian municipalities seek to comply with the Law and the ordinances referring to this type of service. Law is actually applied at the Allan Kardec Psychiatric Hospital, in the municipality of Franca, State of São Paulo, and if this service it offers the humanized service of people with psychic disorder, since in the past, from the earliest psychiatric institutions up to this reform, theso-called "alienated" were segregated and totally excluded from society. The research results demonstrate na institution concerned with meeting there quirement sof the Law regarding the deinstitutionalization and humanization of car... An ethnographic exploration of psychological treatment and training in a psychiatric hospital

Brown, Garfield Augustine 30 June 2008 (has links)
Within the framework of ethnography, an inquiry was made into the many dimensions of psychological treatment and training in a psychiatric hospital, with particular reference to State Patients. Ethnography is the study of an intact cultural or social group based mainly on observations over a prolonged period of time in which the researcher is a participant. The multicultural aspects of the therapeutic community were also inquired into. Ethnographic data was collected and processed over a period of 16 years in three psychiatric hospitals, the main source of data gathered from Weskoppies Hospital in Pretoria. The ecosystemic psychotherapeutic perspective was used as a meta-model to describe eight therapeutic approaches in which intern-psychologists were trained. The hospital is described as a therapeutic community in which rehabilitation is a multi-professional responsibility. Each profession, or sub-culture, has its own framework and culture in which it works within the broader system of the psychiatric hospital. Ethical considerations and recommendations are levelled at the academic and practical aspects of clinical psychology, hospital management, and different levels of government. / Psychology / D.Litt. et Phil.

Lived experiences of nurses caring for adolescents with mental health problems in a psychiatric hospital in the Western Cape Province

Satani, Patricia Nomasizakhe January 2013 (has links)
Magister Curationis - MCur / Mental health care for adolescents is currently provided in a range of settings world-wide. These include the pediatrics units, general hospitals and specialized in-patient units for adolescents. However, care in these specialized units has hitherto not been evaluated. A phenomenological approach as a method and design was chosen to enable participants to describe and explore the lived experiences of nurses caring for adolescents in specialized psychiatric units of the selected psychiatric hospital. A purposive sampling method was used to select respondents. In-depth interviews were conducted with nurses caring for adolescents with mental health problems. Data saturation was reached with seven respondents. Interviews were recorded with a tape recorder that was only accessible to the researcher. Data analysis followed Collazi’s style that included listening to the recorded data, transcribing, coding, and intuition, reflection, reducing and interpreting the data. Ethical clearance was obtained from University of the Western Cape Higher Degrees Committee. The researcher requested permission to conduct the study at selected Psychiatric hospital from the Medical Superintendent and research ethics committee. Informed consent was also sought for those who agreed to participate in the study. Participants remained anonymous as their identity was not revealed. Only information related to the study was collected. Anonymity was assured by omitting names from transcripts as participants were given numbers only rather than using their names. The in-depth interviews were conducted in a quiet office to ensure privacy and confidentiality.

Terceira margem do hospital psiquiátrico : ética, etnografia e alteridade

Poglia, Mário Eugênio Saretta January 2015 (has links)
The formulation of this research consisted to attempt to think the third bank in the psychiatric hospital through ethnography facing problems that underlie the consolidation itself of anthropological discipline and its philosophical presuppositions. Those at the psychiatric hospital in the situation of patients would be too different for the discipline that think about the difference may take them seriously as an object and simultaneously research subjects? The ethnographic description addresses the subjective multiplicity produced from a Creativity Workshop inside the institution and the ontological effects produced by moral majorities who claim a privileged access to reality and good judgment. Attentive to unusual subjective processes potentially able to question the dominant models of coding which could be disregarded in the name of the authority of specialized knowledge in the mental health field, the ethnographic effect multiplies the political texture to emphasize subjective processes by users and hospitalized of a hospital that was hospice.

Využívané metody sociální práce u pacientů hospitalizovaných v Psychiatrické léčebně Červený Dvůr / Used Methods of Social Work by Patients Hospitalized in the Psychiatric Hospital Červený Dvůr

DOLEŽALOVÁ, Vendula January 2014 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on the issue of social work conducted in the Psychiatric Institution Červený Dvůr, which specializes in the treatment of addiction to habit-forming substances. The social work in this institution is part of the therapeutic process and it is an important tool for dealing with social consequences. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the issues of social work, social worker's role in health service and social services for the target group of people addicted to habit-forming substances. This part is also marginally devoted to the issues of addiction and social work with persons who have problems with habit-forming substances. The practical part is realized using qualitative research, the method of questioning. Data was collected using the technique of a semi-structured interview. The first research group was composed of 3 social workers. The method of total selection was used for the construction of the group. The other group consisted of the patients currently hospitalized. A research sample of 12 patients was selected from this group using the method of quota selection. All the interviews conducted were processed; the data was categorized and tabularized. The objective of the thesis was to map the methods and techniques of social work used by social workers in their work with the patients and which social assistance is used by patients most frequently. Another objective was to find out whether the patients are adequately informed about the potential of social work and whether they are satisfied with the provision of social assistance. The research has shown that social work has its fixed place in comprehensive treatment and that it is supported by all the members of the treatment team. The research has shown that the social workers used frequently the methods of working with individuals, groups, families and communities, the using the techniques of interviews, active listening, role play and visual instruction. They mainly apply the task-focused approach. The social workers cooperate most frequently with the members of the treatment team, with the patients, their families and staff of many other institutions. The research has also shown that the patients use social, legal and professional advisory most of all. They use most commonly some assistance in the procurement of new personal documents, when dealing with their debt problems, with finding suitable housing and employment, in resolving family problems and the consequences of crime. The research results have also shown that the patients are well informed about social assistance and they are very satisfied with its provision. I believe that the objectives of my thesis have been met and that the research questions have been answered. The thesis could serve to provide information about how social work is conducted in such specific institutions. The results could be an incentive to make the working conditions for the conduct of social work and improvements in the provision of social assistance more efficient.

It presents as reference the Psychiatric Hospital Doctor Jo?o Machado (Natal/RN) and histories of life and narratives of four intern residents. The research in an ethical horizon, intends to give back to the subjects the voices long silented behind the institutions walls by their families and society in general. As well as to open the interpretations of science to receive and to dialogue with other itineraries of thought that, if on one hand does not restitute the explanation of the Real, on the other hand expresses other forms to see the world. Dislocated of the bigger social environment, the people identified as insane, construct their histories endowed with autonomy and displacements in relation to the social rules and structures that characterize our society, as much as in relation to the logical principles of thought that assume an objective and rational reality. As well as a remnants bedspread configured in a complex and unfinished object, the break up of histories of life of the interns, interviews with medical on psychiatrists to the Doctor Jo?o Machado Hospital, documents of the institution and depositions of that house, were the raw material to construct, with this tesis, another chapter of the 'history of madness'. In elapsing of the work innumerable voices have been heard. Some that study the phenomenon of madness, others that live this 'state of the being' in the world. We opt to detaching the first of an open conception on the theme through intellectuals as: Jo?o da Costa Machado, Ulysses Pernambucano, Nise da Silveira and Boris Cyrulnik. They express ethics compromised to the humanity of the being / A disserta??o pretende despertar um novo olhar a respeito da loucura. No decorrer do trabalho foram ouvidas in?meras vozes.

The revolving door syndrome : a systemic approach

Prisman, Desiree 11 February 2014 (has links)
M.A. (Psychology) / The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the services and methods provided by the various medical and psychological professions within an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting. While working at a psychiatric hospital, the researcher was struck by the high readmittance rate of patients. This tended to create a general feeling of disappointment, frustration and impotence amongst the professions. The importance of such an investigation was therefore required, in order to help facilitate and improve current methods. A thorough investigation of the literature with regard to the current treatment methods at psychiatric hospitals, both on an international and national level, were undertaken. An in-depth case study was described and analysed to indicate the recurrent procedures, methods and treatment modalities that were being instituted within the hospital setting. The aim of this thesis was also to propose an alternative method to the current procedures, using an in-depth case study to indicate the use thereof.
