Previous issue date: 2008-06-11 / The psychotherapist person is one of the most important components in the psychological treatment process. The general objective of this work was to achieve a survey of the scientific production respecting the therapist s person, published in the Brazilian Journals, from 1998 to 2007, and classified as Qualis A and B according to the Capes categories of evaluation. The specific objectives aimed to identify the psychotherapist variables, nature of the work, authorship and institutional affiliation. The therapist s variables were categorized as observable traits, observable states, inferred traits and inferred states. It was also verified the countertransference (in psychodynamics works) and the treatment context (public health or private clinic). The sample consisted of 45 articles, of 22 national Journals accessed in the CAPES website and national libraries. The inter-rater reliability of two independent raters, based on a sample of 10 articles, showed good agreement ( k between 0,1578 and 1). Results suggested a poor production of empirical researches, 60% of the works were theoretical, 29 % empirical, 9 % clinical experience reports and 2 % literature review. The majority of the variables researched into the international literature are ignored or just mentioned in national works. Conclusions point to the necessity of more Brazilian researches on the therapist s variables and their relation to the therapy outcome.

Examining Affectual Interaction within the Therapeutic Relationship Across Three Psychotherapeutic Theoretical ApproachesUnknown Date (has links)
The present study investigates the affectual interaction of three highly competent
therapists using different theoretical approaches with a shared male client and female
client in a professionally recorded video series. The interactions of clients and therapists
in a total sample of six psychotherapy sessions were coded using the twenty code version
of Gottman, Woodin, and Coan’s (1998) Specific Affect Coding System. Coded data
were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis tests which found no significant differences between
the mean ranks of therapists’ codes between therapists. Significant effects among some
affective behaviors were noted in therapists’ codes when compared by client. Coded data
were also used to create mathematical models using ordinary differential equations for
each of the six sessions. Kruskal-Wallis tests did not reveal significant effects in the
mean ranks of the parameters of the mathematical models, and visual similarities and
differences of these models were discussed. Additional analyses were conducted to examine clients’ affective behaviors as well and significant effects were revealed in the
Kruskal-Wallis tests amongst many coded behaviors. The results support the presence of
common factors and similarities in the therapeutic relationship among different
theoretical approaches. The findings also add to the growing body of literature dedicated
to the use of observational coding and dynamic nonlinear modeling in psychotherapy
research. The implications for psychotherapy practice, education, and research are
discussed. / Includes bibliography. / Dissertation (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2017. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Allians i familjeterapi : Fyra familjeterapeuter i en fokusgrupp / Alliance in family therapy : A focus-group with four family therapistsKärn, Hillevi January 2014 (has links)
International research shows that all established psychotherapy is equally effective and that the outcome is influenced by capacities of the therapist and client as well as the relationship between them. The aim of this study was to identify meaning to the phenomenon of alliance in family therapy and the study was carried out with four family therapists in a semi-structured focus-group. The study showed that alliance in family therapy is an interplay field including two relation levels such as frame and interaction. The two levels comprised the aspects of familiarity, asymmetry, relation to several, consensus, presence and affectedness. The result also showed that alliance in family therapy is about several alliances between therapist and client in different systems. The question raised in the study deals with the relevance to use the concept alliance in family therapy on client systems beyond an individual? Suggestions for continued research are to study the phenomenon of alliance in family therapy from an intersubjective perspective.

Psychotherapy Pre-Training Using an Introductory Document Offering a Choice as to Therapeutic FrameworkSmith, Albert Hill 08 1900 (has links)
Previous attempts to alter client expectancy and behavior using brief therapy introduction documents have yielded mixed results. This paper reports on the clinical evaluation of such a document which presented individual therapy clients with suggested in-therapy behaviors and offered them a choice as to therapeutic framework. The document told clients that they would be allowed to choose between short term and long term therapy, but woven into the descriptions of these alternatives were repetitions of suggestions for in-therapy behaviors which were intended to positively alter the therapy process and the clients' attitudes toward it. A third choice, no therapy at all, provided the opportunity to present information about what therapy would not offer (medical treatment, direct advise, etc.). Twenty-nine adult subjects (14 experimental, 15 control) were given either the experimental document or a control document (offering no suggested behaviors and no choices) immediately following their initial intake appointment at the North Texas State University Community Psychology Clinic.

The application of attachment theory to a psychotherapy caseMorgan, Judy Yael 23 August 2012 (has links)
M.A. / The purpose of this study is to illustrate the psychotherapeutic use of Attachment Theory. Attachment Theory is an interpersonal theory which refers to the way an individual internalises an emotional-cognitive model of his relationships with his various attachment figures. These models of ways of relating are reflected in the way an individual speaks. The methodology of the study entailed conducting the semi-structured Adult Attachment Interview to elicit a psychotherapy client's narrative about his attachment relationships. A discourse analysis technique was then conducted to analyse the client's mode of speaking. In the context of the psychotherapy relationship the client showed a capacity for greater integration of previously dissociated thoughts and was able to gain some emotional relief in talking about his attachment relationships. Furthermore, Attachment Theory with its sensitivity to discourse can be seen to provide a useful framework for therapeutic practise.

Empirical Benchmarks for Interpreting Effect Sizes in Child Counseling ResearchWeisberger, Andrea Godwin 05 1900 (has links)
The goal of this study was to establish empirical benchmarks for Cohen's d in child counseling research. After initial review of over 1,200 child intervention research studies published from 1990 to 2016, 41 randomized clinical trials were identified in which intervention and control groups were compared with children 3-12 years old (N = 3,586). Upon identification or calculation of a Cohen's d for each study, I calculated a weighted mean d by multiplying the effect size of each study by the number of participants in that study then dividing by total number of effect sizes. The weighted mean accounted for study sample size and served as the suggested medium effect size benchmark. Results indicated effect size is impacted in large part by type of reporter, with parents apparently most sensitive to improvement and yielding higher effect sizes overall; teachers relatively less sensitive, perhaps due to difficulty observing change in a classroom setting; and children self-reporting lowest levels of improvement, perhaps reflecting a lack of sufficient measures of child development. Suggested medium benchmarks for Cohen's d in child counseling literature are .70.
for parent report, .50 for teacher report, and .36 for child self-report. Small and large benchmarks are suggested based on the use of standard deviations of the mean Cohen's d for each reporter.

Hjälp att få? : 255 SIS-placerade ungdomars upplevelse av hjälp med familjeproblem / Help to get? : The experiences of 255 SiS-placed adolescents with family related problemsHalldorsdottir, Kristin January 2014 (has links)
Each year over 1000 adolescents are placed within the National Board of Institutional Care (SiS) of which half stay in the facilities for treatment. The essay is built from information gathered through ADAD interviews (Adolescent Drug Abuse Diagnosis) performed during registration and discharge of adolescents from SiS. The questions that are meant to be answered are; “How do the treatment placed adolescents in SiS apprehend the help they get with their family related problems?” and “Are there visible connections between gender or ethnic origin and the adolescent’s experience of help with the family related problems during the placement period?” During the registration the boys gave an expression of not being in need of help, the girls gave an expression of being in need of help, significance (p<.05). At discharge no clear differences appears in degree of satisfaction. The results also show a significant difference (p<.05). that foreign-born adolescents greater than Swedish-born stated that it is important to get help with family problems during the investment period. At discharge no clear differences appears in degree of satisfaction.
