Development of PYRAMDS (Python for Radioisotope Analysis and Multi-Detector Suppression) code used in fission product detection limit improvements with the DGF Pixie-4 digital spectrometer

Weaver, Christopher Jordan 06 July 2011 (has links)
The work presented here develops a gamma-ray spectral construction and analysis software tool that was used to analyze multi-detector data collected using a digital spectrometer with list mode capabilities. The tool was used to parse the output from three detectors and generate new spectra that the user chooses from post-processing suppression routines, such as simulated anticoincidence and coincidence spectra. Part of this research was also to characterize the improvements in the detection limits and the various detector efficiencies from this method as opposed to creating these spectra using traditional electronic gating systems. A focus is placed on the detection capability improvements for nuclear forensics purposes, particularly the identification and quantification of fission product samples, and structuring the code framework for handling these types of time-dependent samples while increasing the versatility of the detector system. Improvements to the minimum detectable activity for a series of fission products was accomplished through post-processing suppression methods and multi-dimensional spectral data structures are now achievable. / text

Since the discovery of fossil fuel, its burning has been the main emitter of C to the atmosphere, contributing to raise of Earth's temperature. There are also other sources of C emissions with significant participation in climate change, such as land use change. For centuries, deforestation, burning and poor soil management in the agricultural system have led to a significant loss of forest biomass and soil organic matter, releasing C into the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide CO_2, methane CH_4, among other greenhouse gases. Computational models for soil carbon balance were created to evaluate the effect of conventional and conservationist management practices on soil C reservoir. However, most of these models were developed for climate and soil conditions in temperate regions, thus requiring adaptations to Brazilian soil and climate conditions. The objective of this work is to adapt the CQESTR model in a more robust and modern programming language, making its use available for the most current operational systems, Linux and Mac OS, besides Windows. This model was chosen because of its accuracy, simplicity and the need for few input parameters, besides allowing to simulate carbon stocks in the soil at a depth of 3 m. The updated model, in the Python language, was developed by applying object oriented programming techniques. In order to evaluate the new structure of the model, data were used from the systems: no-tillage and conventional tillage with disc plowing, heavy harrowing and scarification, on wheat and soybean crop rotation in the experimental field of Embrapa Soybean in Londrina/PR. The results of the Python model presented similarities to those of the original model, although inaccuracies were found in the second, such as the change in thermal time for simulations with double agricultural rotation per year and the lack of one day in the leap year. The update allows to simulate more than two crops per year, along with leap year implementation in decomposition processes. It also allows to read data from .xlsx and .xls files, making this procedure more agile and easy for the user compared to the original program. The web interface modernized the use of the model, allowing its use in any operational system. The interface in Python will facilitate future updates to the CQESTR model.

Size Reducing the Conventional CT-scanner

Muir, Cameron January 2018 (has links)
The goal of this project is to perform a pre-study for taking a step toward implementing CT-scanners into medical transportation, and to answer the following questions. Can a miniaturized CT-scanner be created from lower end hardware without compromising image quality? Which image filters are optimal to obtain the clearest, least noisy images from the created CT-scanner? To answer these questions, a literature study is performed and the study shows that a highpass filter combined with flat field correction and a contrast enhancing filter is the most efficient way to increase the image detail in an X-ray image. The image filter is created in MATLAB and the CT-scanner software is created with Python. This project concludes that it is possible with the right hardware and software implementations, to create a miniature CT-scanner as images of both organic and inorganic objects are taken, filtered and their internal structure displayed.

Sabo, Silvio January 2018 (has links)

Walk-A-Way : A Maya Plug-in for Walk Cycle Automation

Christiansson, Kajsa January 2009 (has links)
In 3D and 2D animations walk cycles of characters appear very frequently and are an important way of expressing various aspects of the story told. However walk cycles are tedious and time consuming to animate. In this work an Autodesk MAYA plug-in has been developed, that aims at automating this process. The walk cycle plug-in can be highly beneficial for animators when creating convincing walk cycles in a fast and simple way. The plug-in calculates the right values for each phase in the walk cycle. The GUI of the plug-in makes it easy to provide the required input parameters. In addition, the plug-in allows the animation of a character to walk along a chosen path.

Automating IEEE 1500 wrapper insertion

Huss, Niklas January 2009 (has links)
Integrated circuits (ICs) are becoming increasingly complex, which leadsto long design and development times. Designing ICs in a modular fashionis efficient to shorten design and development times. Due to imperfection inIC manufacturing, all ICs are tested. An IC designed in a modular fashioncan be tested in a modular manner. To enable modular test, the IEEE 1500std has been developed to enable isolation and access of modules. Whilethe IEEE 1500 std is adopted, there is yet no commercial tool available. In this thesis we have (1) developed an IEEE 1500 std wrapper and (2)included it in a design flow based on a commercial tool, and developed scriptto automate the process. Given a module in VHDL, our design automationautomatically makes synthesis, scan insertion, test generation (ATPG), andwrapper insertion. We have applied the design flow to several benchmarksand through simulation verified the correctness.
