Self Service Business Intelligence Design : Guidelines for Designing a Customizable Qlik Sense Application

Hahr, Andreas, Åberg, Ludvig January 2016 (has links)
With the increasing amount of valuable data that companies have access to the need for tools visualizing this data have reached a wider group of users, many of which are not tech-savvy. Self-service Business Intelligence applications aim to meet this need and many guidelines regarding the general design of Business Intelligence have been produced in recent years. In this thesis some of these guidelines are interpreted and applied during the development of a Qlik Sense application for the Device Connection Platform department at Ericsson. The purpose of this thesis is to produce more specific guidelines that aim to complement existing general guidelines on Self-service Business Intelligence design; guidelines that should be taken into account when developing Qlik Sense applications. As a result, five guidelines that concerns conditional dimensions, screen resolutions, naming conventions for master items, the data layer and Qlik Sense conventions for visualizations are presented. Pros and cons regarding these guidelines are discussed along with alternative approaches. The conclusion states that the general guidelines interpreted in this project work were helpful for the workflow and readability of the application, but that more specific guidelines such as the ones presented in the result could be well needed when it comes to customizabil ity and flexibility for end users.

Customer Value(CV) is a data analytics company experiencing problems presenting the result of their analytics in a satisfiable manner. As a result, they considered the use of a data visualization and business intelligence softwares. The purpose of such softwares are to, amongst other things, virtually represent data in an interactive and perceptible manner to the viewer. There are however a large number of these types of applications on the market, making it hard for companies to find the one that best suits their purposes. CV is one such company, and this report was done on behalf of them with the purpose to identify the software best fitting their specific needs. This was done by conducting case studies on specifically chosen softwares and comparing the results of the studies. The software selection process was based largely on the Magic Quadrant report by Gartner, which contains a general overview of a subset of business intelligence softwares available on the market. The selected softwares were Qlik view, Qlik sense, GoodData, panorama Necto, DataWatch, Tableau and SiSense. The case studies focused mainly on aspects of the softwares that were of interest to CV, namely thesoftwares data importation capabilities, data visualization options, the possibilities of updating the model based on underlying data changes, options available regarded sharing the created presentations and the amount of support offered by the software vendor. Based on the results of the case studies, it was concluded that SiSense was the software that best satisfied the requirements set by CV. Jämförelse av IT-system för säljrapporter : Framtagning av metod för jämförelse och med applicering i en fallstudie / Comparison of IT systems for sales reports : Development of methods for the comparison and apply in a case study

Swedenborg, Tobias, Brötmark, Karl-Anton January 2016 (has links)
Selecting the right IT-system might be an extensive process which, despite many people involved, might lead to a failure which can mean high and unforeseen costs. If the comparison of systems isn’t done according to a proven method there is a higher risk that the final choice of IT-system is based on emotions and good marketing rather than a straight and fair comparison. Genero Solutions offers an IT-solution for sales control which is partly providing reports containing statistics from the sales force on field. Genero Solutions is in need of a better reporting system which gives the inspector of the reports more flexibility when exploring data. There are many providers within Business Intelligence who is offering this kind of reporting service, which makes it even harder choosing the system fitting Genero Solutions needs. This report develops a method which is based on scientific theories and the established comparison method Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), aiming to achieve a scientifically proved result and apply it by examine the Business Intelligence systems Microsoft Power BI, The Diver Solution and Qlik Sense The result of this report in a motivated method that is suited for this investigation and also a recommendation for which system that is best suited for Genero Solutions needs.
