Qualidade de vida no trabalho dos professores de Educação Física da Rede Municipal / Quality of work life of teachers of Physical Education of the Municipal Schools

The study is characterized as a descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The instruments of data collection were a survey to investigate the sociodemographic profile and "Rating Scale of Quality of Life at Work perceived by Physical Education teachers of elementary and high school" (QVT-PEF) (Both et al., 2006). On the data analysis the answers given by teachers in relation to QVT-PEF was used weighting equations of Lemos (2007), where the responses were grouped into three categories, namely: dissatisfied, satisfied and undecided. The tests of chi-square and Fisher's Exact were used to check for differences in categorical variables, from the STATA statistical software, version 12.0, the level of significance was p <0.05. Meanwhile the other data were analyzed for descriptive statistics, with values of frequency and percentage. The sample was composed by surveys that returned, 118 surveys were distributed, whose percentage of return was 79.66%, a rate that, second (Both et al, 2008), can be considered as satisfactory for this kind of study. Of the 94 teachers surveyed 36.2% are male and 63.8% are female. Regarding age 46.8% of them are until 39 years old and 53.2% are 40 years old or more. Regarding marital status 54.3% are married and 45.7% are single, divorced or widowers. And about family income, 64.9% receive up to five minimum wages while 35.1% receive six times the minimum wage or more. As regards the networks 69.1% only work in the municipal school network and 30.8% of them work in municipal and others schools. Is important emphasize that the vast majority of teachers, 76.7% works only in the classroom, while just 23.3% of them work in the classroom and other administrative positions, and just 29.8% of these teachers have a workload of up to 39 hours, while 70.2% of them have a workload of 40 hours or more. As for the desire to professional change 77.7% of the teachers do not want to change jobs while 22.3% demonstrated desire for change. The results showed a high percentage of indecision, but with a contingent of satisfaction to dimensions as immediate opportunity for the use and development of human capacities; Constitutionalism in the work organization and social relevance of work life. It becomes evident dissatisfaction related to the dimensions of pay, working conditions and work and full space of life. The job and salary plans must address the qualification, as well as ensuring better remuneration by career advancement. / O objetivo desta pesquisa foi analisar a percepção dos docentes quanto a sua qualidade de vida no trabalho, bem como verificar a satisfação desses profissionais no que diz respeito ao contexto de atuação dos professores de Educação Física da Rede Municipal de Ensino da cidade de Pelotas. A investigação caracterizou-se como uma pesquisa descritiva com uma abordagem quantitativa. A população foi composta por 118 professores de Educação Física, pertencentes às 40 escolas da zona urbana. Os instrumentos de coleta de dados foram questionários para investigar o perfil sociodemográfico e a Escala de Avaliação da Qualidade de Vida no Trabalho percebida por professores de Educação Física do Ensino Fundamental e Médio (QVT-PEF). Para análise dos dados, categorizou-se as respostas emitidas pelos professores no que se refere ao QVT-PEF e utilizou-se as equações de ponderação de Lemos (2007), sendo as respostas agregadas em três categorias, quais sejam: insatisfeitos, indecisos e satisfeitos. Os testes do Qui-quadrado e o Exato de Fisher foram aplicados para verificar a existência de diferenças nas variáveis categóricas, a partir do programa estatístico STATA, versão 12.0, cujo nível de significância adotado foi p<0,05, enquanto os demais dados foram analisados considerando a estatística descritiva, com valores de frequência e percentual. A amostra constituiu-se pelos questionários que retornaram, sendo que, dos 118 questionários, o percentual de retorno foi de 79,7%. Participaram do estudo 94 professores, 36,2% do sexo masculino e 63,8% do sexo feminino. Quanto à idade, 46,8% têm até 39 anos, e 53,2%, 40 anos ou mais. Quanto ao estado civil, 54,3% são casados, e 45,7 são caracterizados em outros estados civis. Quanto à renda familiar, 64,9% recebem até cinco salários-mínimos, enquanto 35,1% recebem seis salários-mínimos ou mais. Constatou-se que 69,1% desses docentes trabalham somente na rede municipal, enquanto que 76,7% atuam somente em sala de aula, 70,2% têm carga horária de 40 horas ou mais e convém ressaltar que 77,7 % dos professores participantes do estudo não desejam mudar de profissão, enquanto apenas 22,3% demonstraram desejo de mudança. Os resultados evidenciaram percentuais acentuados de indecisão, mas com um contingente de satisfação nas dimensões oportunidade imediata para o uso e desenvolvimento das capacidades humanas (73,4%); constitucionalismo na organização do trabalho (68,1%) e relevância social da vida no trabalho (59,6%). Torna-se evidente a insatisfação relacionada às dimensões remuneração salarial (69,1%) e às condições de trabalho (35,1%), seguido do mesmo índice de indecisão. Necessita-se de políticas e ações mais contundentes relacionadas à educação, de modo a orientar e desenvolver competências e atitudes mais eficientes em todos os níveis, ou seja, através de planos de carreira justos e adequados, salários dignos e melhores condições de trabalho

The process of downsizing a mental health hospital : an ethnography

The purpose of the study was to identify and describe the approach and strategies used to downsize a mental health organization. This ethnographic study was conducted at a psychiatric hospital that is beginning the 4th year of a 10 year downsizing plan. Data were gathered through interviews, informal observations, and field documents. This research design facilitated an understanding of the phenomenon in the context of the practices and beliefs of the executive management team. Semistructured interviews were conducted with six executive and four middle managers who were involved in the downsizing decision making process. Freeman and Cameron's (1993) definition of downsizing was broadened to encompass not-for-profit reasons for downsizing. Cameron's (1994) downsizing model was supported and an additional best practice called alignment of purpose was proposed in which the leadership of an organization attempts to align the stakeholders with similar goals and objectives for downsizing. The emotional process of downsizing emerged as a key area to address concurrently with job security and other more pragmatic consequences of downsizing. This thesis deals with corporate sport in all its forms. The aim is to monitor the development and the status of corporate sport especially in Europe, its impact on employees and what benefits it brings for businesses and society. The status of sport in the Czech corporate environment was examined in the practical part of this work through structured interviews and group discussion. The practical part mainly focuses on the impact of sport on corporate business climate, teamwork, motivation and health condition of employees. Recommendations for corporate practice are formulated in the conclusion. The author considers the mapping of the current situation in this area of employee care and a survey regarding employers view to be the main contribution of this paper.

Na tentativa de mensurar tal variável, pesquisadores das mais variadas áreas têm, desde então, desenvolvido um grande número de instrumentos de avaliação. A grande inflação de instrumentos criados nas últimas décadas, apesar de promover uma maior possibilidade de escolha, por outro lado, fomenta um cenário caliginoso aos pesquisadores: decidir qual é o instrumento mais apropriado para a realização de uma determinada pesquisa. A falta de conhecimento por parte dos pesquisadores tem conduzido, com frequência, à escolha de instrumentos impróprios e/ou menos eficazes para a realização de pesquisa na área da qualidade de vida e qualidade de vida no trabalho. Nessa perspectiva, o objetivo do presente trabalho é realizar uma investigação teórica de natureza descritiva e analítica, desenvolvida por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica, acerca da avaliação da qualidade de vida e qualidade de vida no trabalho, com enfoque os instrumentos de avaliação da qualidade de vida da Organização Mundial da Saúde - WHOQOL - e os modelos clássicos de qualidade de vida no trabalho. O presente estudo abarca a análise dos instrumentos WHOQOL-100, WHOQOL-bref, WHOQOL-HIV, WHOQOL-HIV-bref, WHOQOL-OLD, WHOQOL-SRPB, WHOQOL-DIS, WHOQOL-Children, WHOQOL-8, WHOQOL-Pain e dos modelos teóricos e instrumentos de avaliação da qualidade de vida no trabalho de Walton, Hackman e Oldham, Westley, Werther e Davis e do modelo teórico de qualidade de vida no trabalho de Nadler e Lawler. Infere-se que a escolha de um instrumento de avaliação da qualidade de vida e/ou qualidade de vida no trabalho não é uma empreitada simples. Uma série de fatores tais como o objetivo da pesquisa, os indicadores a ser estudada, a população a serem examinados, os aspectos geográficos, o tempo de aplicação, os procedimentos de análise, deve ser levada em consideração. Cada instrumento é ímpar, possuindo suas respectivas vantagens e eventuais fragilidades. Nessa perspectiva, a presente investigação, por meio do agrupamento de informações existentes na literatura associadas a informações originais, intenta corroborar para com o cenário contemporâneo da avaliação da qualidade de vida e qualidade de vida no trabalho / Abstract: Since decade of 1970, the preoccupation about quality of life increased. Aiming to measure such variable, researchers of many areas have since then developed a great number of measurement instruments. The instruments inflation created in the last decades, even promoting a larger choice possibility on the other hand foments a dark scenario to the researchers: to decide what is the most appropriated instrument for the accomplishment of a certain research. The lack of knowledge by the researchers has been leading often to the choice of inappropriate and/or less effective instruments for the research accomplishment in quality of life and quality of work life areas. In this perspective, the present study aims to accomplish a theoretical investigation of descriptive and analytic nature, developed by a bibliographical research, concerning quality of life and quality of work life evaluation, boarding the World Health Organization Quality of Life instruments - WHOQOL - and life classical models of quality of work life. The present study boards the analysis of WHOQOL-100, WHOQOL-bref, WHOQOL-HIV, WHOQOL-HIV-bref, WHOQOL-OLD, WHOQOL-SRPB, WHOQOL-DIS, WHOQOL-Children, WHOQOL-8, WHOQOL-Pain and of the quality of work life theoretical models and measurement instruments of Walton, Hackman and Oldham, Westley, Werther and Davis and of life quality of work life theoretical model of Nadler and Lawler. We infer that the choice of a quality of life and/or quality of work life's measurement instrument is not a simple work. A series of factors, such as the research goal, the investigated indicators, the examined population, the geographical aspects, time of filling, the analysis procedures, should be taken in into account. Each instrument is unique, owning its respective advantages and eventual fragilities. O presente estudo tem por objetivo analisar a processo em que estas coordenações foram constituídas e buscar informações sobre a percepção dos servidores públicos nas condições do ambiente de trabalho, bem como na sua qualidade de vida na local de trabalho e investigar em que medida a satisfação dos servidores com o clima organizacional pode estar associado à satisfação.A pesquisa terá um delineamento quantitativo e qualitativo, que será realizada através de entrevistas e questionários. Pretende-se com os resultados encontrados, buscar fatores que apontem para a coexistência de estressores que podem vir a interferir na motivação dos servidores, e os resultados encontrados serão apresentados a PROGEPE, como argumentos e subsídios para futuras realizações de ações e de melhorias no clima organizacional para os servidores. / UFPE currently has 12 academic centers and through its (pró-reitoria de Gestão de Pessoas) PROGEPE in the year of 2013 created the CIFICs project, with the purpose of attributing one CIFIC to each of the academic centers. These CIFICs have a multifunctional purpose, therefore imposing a heavy labour and mental carry on the public servants that work on them. The present study aims to analise the process in which these CIFICs were constituted and search for further information on the perception of the public servants on the impact of the CIFICs on the conditions of the work environment, as well as in their quality of life on the workplace - investigating to which extend the satisfaction of the workers with the organizational ergonomic might be associated with their satisfaction at the workplace. The research will be focused on quantitative and qualitative enquire, therefore collecting data thorough open question and closed question type interviews. With the results compiled by these interviews, we intend to search for factors that are currently interfering with these workers productivity and motivation on the workplace, constituting arguments for improving organizational type actions, and gathering useful information for further improvement actions on the workplace in UFPE.

Estresse, estratégias de enfrentamento e qualidade de vida no trabalho: estudo de caso na área de construção civil / Stress, coping, and quality of work life: case study in the civil constrution business

Este estudo tem como objetivo identificar o estresse, as estratégias de enfrentamento e caracterizar a qualidade de vida no trabalho dos profissionais de uma empresa de médio porte da construção civil do sul de Minas Gerais. Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, com abordagem quantitativa, desenvolvida por meio do delineamento de estudo de caso. A amostra foi composta por cem funcionários aos quais foram aplicados os seguintes instrumentos: Escala Toulousiane de Estresse (ETS- Echelle Toulousaine de Stress) para avaliar o estresse, a Escala de Toulousaine de Coping (ETC Echelle Toulousaine de Coping) para as estratégias de enfrentamento, questionário adaptado e validado de Hackman e Oldham para medir a QVT e questionário de dados sociodemográficos. Os dados foram analisados com o auxílio do software Sphinx, Excel e SPSS para Windows. Resultados revelaram a predominância de homens, casados com idade entre 30 a 50 anos. Todas as médias de estresse estão abaixo da média nacional, e as médias de utilização das estratégias de enfrentamento de controle e apoio social são menores na amostra quando comparadas à média brasileira e os índices de utilização das estratégias de isolamento e recusa são maiores. Não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa entre estresse e as variáveis na análise comparativa. Com relação às estratégias de enfrentamento constatou-se que há diferença estatisticamente significativa somente ao compararmos as estratégias por idade e por escolaridade. Em relação à QVT na maioria das dimensões investigadas houve um predomínio de resultados satisfatórios, destacando-se as variáveis da percepção, da responsabilidade pelos resultados e motivação interna para o trabalho. Apenas nas variáveis autonomia e satisfação com a compensação foram encontrados índices mais elevados de insatisfação. / This paper aims at identifying the stress, the strategies to cope with it, and at characterizing the quality of work life of the professionals working for a medium-sized company in the civil construction business, located in South Minas Gerais. Its a descriptive research utilizing quantitative approach, developed by means of case study outlining. The sample was composed of one hundred employees and the following instruments have been applied: the Toulousaine Stress Scale (ETS- Echelle Toulousaine de Stress) to assess stress, the Toulousaine Coping Scale (ETC Echelle Toulousaine de Coping) for the coping strategies, the adapted and validated questionnaire of Hackman and Oldham to measure the QWL and a questionnaire of social and demographic data. The data were analyzed with the aid of the Sphinx software, Excel and SPSS for Windows. The results showed a predominance of male employees, married, aged 30-50 years. All stress averages were below the national average, and the averages of using coping strategies of control and social support were lower in the sample than the Brazilian average and the indexes of using isolation and refusal strategies were higher. There wasnt any statistically significant difference between stress and the social and demographic variables in the comparative analysis. When the coping strategies were concerned, it was verified that there was only a statistically significant difference when we compared the strategies with age and schooling. As to quality of work life, in most investigated aspects there was predominance of satisfactory results, especially concerning the variables of perception, responsibility for results achieved and internal drive to work. Higher indexes of dissatisfaction were only found in the variables of autonomy and pay satisfaction.

Personnel within the workforce who dress casually report improvements ranging from morale to customer relations after the implementation of more relaxed dress codes. It will also be necessary to consider whether or not business casual dress facilitates the tearing down of social and communication barriers.

The effect of locus of control and type of voice on satisfaction with voice and procedural justice

This study examined the roles of type of voice and locus of control on satisfaction with type of voice and on feelings of procedural justice. Two forms of voice were assessed, instrumental and non-instrumental, as well as two forms of locus of control, external and internal. Participants read a scenario that randomly placed them into type of voice. Participants responded to surveys to determine the persons' locus of control, satisfaction with voice and feelings of procedural justice. A form of participation that brings employees satisfaction is voice. Allowing employees to express their opinions is seen as fair and has benefits to employees, as well as the organization. Some individuals prefer to have an impact and be more involved in the workplace, while others do not.

Reducing the tension between work and life roles: testing a work life conflict intervention

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Work-life conflict has been repeatedly demonstrated to have a negative impact on individuals and organizations alike. Although the negative impact of work-life conflict has been recognized in the Industrial Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavioral literature, very few researchers have developed interventions to reduce it. Moreover, the interventions currently in existence tend not to be practical, grounded in relevant theory, or experimentally tested. Thus, the present study sought to create and test an intervention based upon concepts from border theory and conservation of resources theory. Specifically, using these theories, the intervention sought to provide segmentation techniques as a resource for participants to reduce work-life conflict. The intervention was tested on a group of university employees. Results were unsupportive of predicted hypotheses, the intervention was not found to significantly impact segmentation, work-life conflict, work outcomes, or personal outcomes. Future directions, theoretical and practical contributions, and limitations are discussed. Despite insignificant findings, the present study offers practical and theoretical guidance for organizations and researchers interested in developing interventions to reduce work-life conflict.
