R&D Substitute Military Service is the transformation of the Defense Industry Reserve Duty System, and early in the system conversion, the employing enterprise and the community had great expectations. The competent authorities and the organizers have also invested a lot of resources, greater use of space in the system at the surface, the character of the employer and the draftee demand. In this study, a qualitative analysis, through in-depth interviews with the the Rebate employing unit, a draftee, analysis of this system the enterprise of the recruitment and staffing management, organizational effectiveness of the shadow impact as the proposed future sophisticated.

An Aproach On Dilution And Ore Recovery/ Loss Calculation In Mineral Reserve Estimations At The Cayeli Mine, Turkey

Dilution and ore recovery/loss have an important role in calculation of mineral reserves. Each percent increase in dilution and decrease in recovery negatively affects economic value of the reserve. These parameters are mainly controlled by the quality of the mine design and stoping practice. This study provides an approach developed for dilution and recovery/ore loss calculations. The contribution of mine design software (MineSight) and the recent survey technique called Cavity Monitoring System (CMS) were presented in this study. The purpose was to compare the new approach with the old system where the calculations had been done according to some assumptions and to optimize mineral reserve estimation process. Results indicate that the new approach used in reserve estimation process gives ~1.6% closer tonnages to the actual numbers and the grades are both ~1.6% closer to the actual values numbers when compared with the old system.

Thermodynamic and Engineering Analysis of Applying Gas Turbine Inlet Air Cooling Systems for Combined-Cycle Power Plant

Abstract In recent years, domestic energy policy has continuously changed, especially, after a liberalization of electric power market opened, resulting into the power industry proprietor expected to has a stable electric power supply systems, high power generation, high thermal efficiency and low heat rate. They will consistently devise a way to propose a strategy of improved or enhanced in the light of a competitive footstone for electric force market. About 90% worldwide and 65% domestic electricity are generated by the thermal power plants, where the energy source is obtained from burning the fossil fuels. Therefore, Increasing the power generation capacity of thermal power plants will substantially raise to the percent reserve margin of to be smaller than 12% over the years. In Taiwan, the ambient temperature is always higher than 30oC at summer. When gas turbine has operated during peak, gave rise to deteriorate its power generation capability and often actually generated power lower 10% than based on a design condition of ISO 15oC. This study adopts a way which is not same as conventional method increased power generation capability of the thermal power plants. In other word, reducing the inlet air temperature to gas turbine, it will increase the air flow mass rate and the generated-power capacity. By means of EPRI Gate Cycle Software constructing a typical combined-cycle power plant, at the same time, to simulate and to search out an effective operating control strategy for the power plant with GTIAC. Furthermore, applying the electric chiller and the absorption chiller to combined-cycle power plant as an inlet air cooling system use thermodynamic and engineering analysis to discuss an extent of energy utilizing, the valuability of energy application, to access the economic effect of investing equipment to acquire an optimal balance point. Selecting the inlet air temperature 15oC,10oC and comparing the thermal performance of electric chiller with that of absorption chiller. Then, proposing a feasible suggestion to treat as an important reference criteration of improving present power GENSET and planning to install a thermal power plant for the electric power proprietor.

Capital controls and external debt term structure

In my dissertation, I explore the relationship between capital controls and the choice of the maturity structure of external debt in a general equilibrium setup, incorporating explicitly the role of international lenders. I look at specific types of capital controls which take the form of date-specific and maturity-specific reserve requirements on external borrowing. I consider two questions: How is the maturity structure of external debt determined in a world general equilibrium? What are the effects of date- and maturity-specific reserve requirements on the maturity structure of external debt? Can they prevent a bank run? I develop a simple Diamond-Dybvig-type model with three dates. In the low income countries, banks arise endogenously. There are two short-term bonds and one long-term bond offered by the domestic banks to international lenders. First I look at a simple model were international lending is modeled exogenously. I consider explicitly the maturity composition of capital inflows to a domestic economy. I show that the holdings of both short-term bonds are not differentiated according to date. Second, I consider international lending behavior explicitly. The world consists of two large open economies: one with high income and one with low income. The high income countries lend to low income countries. There exist multiple equilibria and some are characterized by relative price indeterminacy. Third, I discuss date-specific and maturity- specific reserve requirements. In my setup reserve requirements play the role of a tax and the role of providing liquidity for each bond at different dates. I show that they reduce the scope of indeterminacy. In some equilibria, I identify a case in which the reserve requirement rate on the long-term debt must be higher than that on the short-term debt for a tilt towards a longer maturity structure. Fourth, I introduce the possibility of an unexpected bank run. I show that some specific combination of date-and maturity-specific reserve requirements reduce the vulnerability to bank runs. With regard to the post-bank-run role of international lenders, I show that international lenders may still want to provide new short-term lending to the bank after the occurrence of a bank run.

The Effect of National Defense Substitute Service on Enterprise From a Human Resources Perspective

The Defense Industry Reserve Duty System¡]DIRDS¡^has been used in Taiwan for many years. This program enables science and technology industries to recruit talented people, who can contribute to the defense industry and the high-tech industries without interruption by regular military service. This study uses quantitative methodology and interviews with human resources and R&D managers to determine how this program has effected high-tech enterprises from a human resources perspective. Results of this study showed that DIRDS recruits exhibited four characteristics: high stability, high quality, high educational background, and high consistency with industry requirements. Due to these four characteristics, DIRDS recruits have become an important source of IT talent. DIRDS recruits can bring significant growth to R&D efforts and enhance the energy of development. The Defense Industry Reserve Duty System can thus help reduce manufacturing costs, improve operational effectiveness, and raise the prestige of corporate brands. Further analysis and discussion of our results show that for human resources planning, work arrangement with DIRDS recruits should be combined with the company's long term objectives. Recruitment and selection should be focused and strategic since DIRDS targets specialized skills. Training and development should focus on practical or on job training that is tailored to the abilities and temperament of the DIRDS recruit.

Edaphic zoning and species-site matching to assist re-vegetation of indigenous species at the Styx Mill Reserve

The Styx Mill Reserve is located in Belfast, Christchurch and is managed by the Christchurch City Council. Who aim to re-establish indigenous vegetation to large proportions of the area. These efforts have been successful in some sections of the Reserve; but large areas of the Reserve remain in grass and other weeds. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the presence of 5 hypothesised edaphic1 zones in a 10 ha study area, with a future aim of matching establishment practices to these edaphic sites. Findings indicated that all zones have significantly different vegetation and soil characteristics. Consequentially methods of native re-vegetation must be different in each zone if successful re-establishment of native species is to occur. Based on confirmed edaphic zones and client input, a site matched management plan and species list for one zone was developed. This aimed to increase the health and survival rates of plantings. Site modification followed techniques used at sites with similar conditions that have had successes in establishing woody vegetation. The effect of hydrogel on heath and survival levels was also trialled. To assess species suitability, five species were selected based on their abilities to survive the site conditions. Due to a combination of frost damage and ungulate browse, only totara survived and demonstrated good health scores. The frost factor is difficult to mitigate, hence species affected severely by frost are not recommended. The browse issue is easier to mitigate and it is felt that the two species heavily browsed, but not frosted are likely to be suitable. This resulted in ribbonwood, totara and kōhūhū being recommended. The time period did not allow assessment of the hydrogel treatment. Insufficient trial numbers exist to continue trials assessing future growth and survival rates over a longer time scale.

A geology field guide for secondary students visiting the Landels-Hills Big Creek Reserve, Big Sur, California

A field guide is always a handy, but rare, little document, especially for a secondary educator. Therefore, the purpose of this project was to research, develop, write and present this document, for the Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve. The University of California Natural Reserve System oversees thirty-six multi-acre, natural reserves. One part of the overall mission of these reserves is an educational outreach program in which curriculum is made available to the school systems. The curriculum is to be used to educate the students about each specific reserve area, to engage students in learning about their environment and to create an awareness of the need for conservation of wild areas. The final products from this research are a secondary-level geology guidebook, for students, with suggested classroom and in-field lessons, specifically written for the Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve, Big Sur, California, along with a revised and updated geologic map of the Reserve and a teaching rock collection, for use at the Reserve. / text

The association of head circumference with selected cognitive outcomes in older adults in Charlotte County, Florida

OBJECTIVE: The brain reserve hypothesis was examined in a secondary analysis of cross-sectional data from a community-based sample of 468 older adults residing in Charlotte County, Florida. The objective of the analysis was to determine the association between head circumference and eight cognitive outcomes and to assess any potential effect modification of existing associations by Apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotype. METHODS: Cognitive outcomes include scores from the Modified Mini-Mental State Exam (3MS), the Hopkins Verbal Learning Test-Revised (HVLT-R), Stroop Color-Word Test, Trail-Making Test A and B, and a word-stem completion task measuring implicit memory. Descriptive statistics were calculated for each variable. Head circumference and dependent cognitive outcomes were modeled as dichotomous variables using logistic regression, adjusting for gender, age, education, income, height, and Spot The Word test score, a measure of pre-morbid IQ. For dichotomized test scores, poor outcomes (cases) were defined as having scores in the lowest quintile; the remaining top four quintiles were considered non-cases. RESULTS: small head circumference was significantly associated with low 3MS scores [OR(95%CI): 2.97 (1.12, 7.89), p=0.03], after adjustment for age, income and pre-morbid IQ. The association remained statistically significant after adjustment for gender and education as well. After adjustment, head circumference was not found to be statistically significantly associated with any other cognitive outcome. No effect modification was found by APOE genotype or years of education. CONCLUSION: This analysis confirms previous findings that exposure to low head circumference significantly impacts cognition in late life.
