Kaur, Kirandip, Soltaniha, Tina January 2022 (has links)
The year 2020 the truck manufacturer Scania CV AB established a goal of reducing its energy consumption by 25% by 2025, with the year 2020 as its starting point. Reduction of energy consumption is necessary for the truck manufacturer in order to continue to conduct both sustainable as well as responsible business. This study is performed at the production unit DI (driveline-injector), the unit manufactures fuel injection systems for the company Cummins-Scania XPI Manufacturing. The purpose of the report is to identify energy saving activities, and additionally propose energy saving actions to be able to support the production unit DI in achieving the energy reduction target of 25%. Boström, Gustav, Parker, Thomas January 2024 (has links)
The demand for products continues to increase in today’s society, and to meet this demandcompanies are searching for new ways to improve the performance of their workers. Therefore, there is a constant push to develop and implement new technological solutionswithin the Industry 4.0 approach. The aim of this study is to research the different pathwaysone could take when implementing these technological solutions and what challenges itwould entail, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This is done in collaboration withSaab Surveillance within their production division, who wishes to increase theirperformance within their white-collar environment. In this study, performance is defined andmeasured through productivity. The main indicators of productivity will, therefore, be timededicated to a task as well as the potential to improve the quality of a task. The result of thisstudy is presented with a roadmap framework where seven key areas, i.e., work processes, were discovered that could benefit from AI applications. These areas were uncovered byconducting a contextual inquiry and semi-structured interviews, and were then matched withrelevant AI applications. The discovered key areas are categorized based on a cost-benefitanalysis, with the scale of; low, medium, and high. The roadmap illustrates in which areas itcould be most beneficial to implement the suggested AI applications. Using this study, Saaband other companies can make more informed decisions on the pathways for adopting newtechnological solutions that will improve the performance of their white-collar workers.

Technology venture emergence characterisation

Hirose, Yuta January 2017 (has links)
Technology entrepreneurs and managers aim to navigate emerging technology ventures and innovations towards successful commercialisation and business development, often over long periods of time. However, this is challenging due to high uncertainties associated with planning and navigating relevant market and business drivers, technological resources and capabilities, and applications. Failure to understand and manage these uncertainties appropriately can lead to undesired consequences and poor outcomes in the realisation of value creation and capture. This research firstly built a knowledge base of technology ventures by conducting a literature review, enabling the development of a conceptual retrospective roadmapping framework as the basis for characterising the emergence of technology ventures. This leads to an analysis of 13 case studies, characterising phases, transitions, patterns, enablers and barriers associated with the emergence of technology ventures. A conceptual model, the so-called ‘emergence archetypes’, was then developed by conducting an in-depth analysis with a further 19 case studies. The concept provides practical insights regarding how emerging technology ventures can be exposed to different levels of technological and market uncertainties along the journey of technology commercialisation and business development. Finally, a strategy visualisation tool and process have been designed based on the research outputs, and a focus group was then conducted with industrial practitioners to review and evaluate the research outputs for practical use in industry. In total, 32 case studies and a focus group have been conducted in the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Japan, Australia and the United States. Overall, this research demonstrates that characterising technology venture emergence, by applying roadmapping principles, provides significant implications for both researchers and practitioners of strategy and innovation. Success or failure of emerging technology ventures, in terms of value creation and capture, is not only directly related to products or services, but more broadly to the innovation systems in which the technology ventures operate. By demonstrating the characterisation of technology venture emergence, the conceptualisation of emergence archetypes and the strategy visualisation tool and process development, this research shows that applying roadmapping is an appropriate method to characterise and improve emerging technology venturing practices, supporting value creation and capture.

The level of importance given to processes under Supply Chain responsibility has increased in the last few years. For many companies the Supply Chain has become a critical factor when it comes to achieving competitive advantage in the markets and a rather relevant target for strategy. This master’s dissertation had the objective to identify the strategy proposition and the outline of the structure of processes used to build a Supply Chain integrated model of management as well as to analyze the contributions of the SCOR model towards the context of the researched company. The research strategy used herewith was an exploratory case study within a company that would provide the means for evidence from its management model. A documentary research was firstly carried out so as to identify the organizational context, listing the events that took place, the organization of the processes that support the integrated management model and the organizational and strategic motivation that led to the setup of the Supply Chain footprint. It was possible to identify the strategies and Supply Chain initiatives alignment through the analysis of content in categories that covered issues such as strategy, performance and integrated supply chain model, performance propositions and the concept of business value, and the realignment of the functional structure within an integrated concept of processes supported by practices and an extended vision of performance. Based on the documentary research and content analysis some contributions were recommended having the SCOR model applied to the current supply chain management model of the company analyzed, with the intention of collaborating with the improvement of the current integrated supply chain management model. The SCOR model analysis of Supply Chain operations and integrated management model is justified because it would not be possible to defend a position and offer contributions to Supply Chain operations without using a conceptual model or processes as reference. This case study allowed for the observation that Supply Chain started to be viewed in a strategic way when the Supply Chain management and business objectives alignment took place and from the definition of Supply Chain as an essential competence to the company’s market competition, developing an organization of processes and structure to support the proposed strategy.

Intégration des considérations environnementales en entreprise : une approche systémique pour la mise en place de feuilles de routes / Contribution to methods and tools supporting eco-design practises in companies

Zhang, Feng 02 April 2014 (has links)
To answer environmental challenge and create new competitive advantages, the companies needto consider and integrate environmental considerations into all its processes. Numerous environmentalmethods exist as well as solutions to integrate them into companies. But, the literature review realisedindicates that a systemic approach combining strategic and practical needs from eco-design couldfacilitate this integration. This thesis, which represents the "tactic" module of the national research project ANR- Convergence, aims to provide a new framework to identify a suitable operational trajectory for a better integration ofenvironmental consideration in companies. Thus, a clear analysis about the identification of theseexisting methods and their interrelationships was realised. Our work was to identify the operativecorrelation between methods via a cartography, then the relationship between those methods and thedynamic needs/contexts of companies to finally propose ” environmental roadmaps. So, we finallypropose a systematic approach to define environmental roadmaps in companies. Those roadmapsconcern the strategis, tactic and operational levels in companies. The results of three academic/industrial experiments demonstrate that all proposals of this thesis couldensure effectively the identification of a suitable systemic trajectories’ group based on actual corporateneeds and its dynamic context. The pre-defined chain of action and the list of available tools providedsupport the company to identify the working process and to organize the workflow between differentcorporate functions.
