Previous issue date: 2017-02-23 / Artificial dyes are commonly used in the food industry, both for their low cost and for ease of procurement. The consumer market, however, requires healthier products and a viable alternative would be the use of natural pigments. In addition to plants, flowers, fruits and animals, micro-organisms can be the source of this type of pigment, such as fungi, bacteria and microalgae. Therefore, the present study had as objective to produce pigments from the solid fermentation and submerged by filamentous fungus Monascus ruber CCT 3802 using maltose syrup as substrate. The effect of substrate concentration on maltose syrup and the influence of pH on pigment production was studied by evaluating the radial growth rate, pigment production and pigment properties by thermal stability. The main results demonstrate that the highest radial growth velocity was obtained from the plate containing 5 g L-1 maltose syrup 0.1053 mm h-1 , which corresponds to an increase of 71.70% when compared to the medium extract of Malt agar (MEA). In the submerged fermentation the concentration of 10 g L-1 of maltose obtained the highest absorbance (14.54 AU), lower biomass (4.65 g L-1 ) and greater dark red intensity. For pH determination, the highest radial growth rate was obtained when the fungus was cultivated at pH 6.5 and the production of yellow pigment was obtained at low pH (2.0 and 2.5) while the production of orange pigments was in the pH range (3.0 and 3.5) and the red pigment yield obtained when the fungus was grown at pH above 4.0. Thus, it can be concluded that maltose syrup and pH exerted a significant influence on both the radial growth rate and the production of pigments in submerged fermentation, showing that lower substrate concentrations favor higher amounts of red pigment and that associated with the culture in PH 6.5 favored the formation of red pigments. / Corantes artificiais são comumente utilizados na indústria de alimentos, tanto pelo seu baixo custo quanto pela facilidade de obtenção. O mercado consumidor, entretanto, requer produtos mais saudáveis e uma alternativa seria a utilização de pigmentos naturais. Além de plantas, flores, frutos e animais, micro-organismos podem ser fonte deste tipo de pigmento, como fungos, bactérias e microalgas. Portanto, o presente estudo teve como objetivo produzir pigmentos a partir da fermentação sólida e submersa pelo fungo filamentoso Monascus ruber CCT 3802 utilizando xarope de maltose como substrato. Foi estudado o efeito da concentração do substrato xarope de maltose e a influência do pH na produção de pigmentos, avaliando a velocidade de crescimento radial, a produção de pigmentos e as propriedades dos pigmentos mediante a estabilidade térmica. Os principais resultados demonstram que a maior velocidade de crescimento radial foi obtida da placa contendo 5 g L-1 de xarope de maltose 0,1053 mm h-1 , que corresponde ao um aumento de
71,70% quando comparado com o meio extrato de malte ágar (MEA). Na fermentação submersa a concentração de 10 g L-1 de maltose obteve a maior absorbância (14,54 UA), menor biomassa (4,65 g L-1 ) e maior intensidade da cor vermelho escuro. Já para determinação da influência do pH a velocidade de crescimento radial mais elevada foi obtida quando o fungo foi cultivado em pH 6,5. A obtenção dos pigmentos, amarelo, laranja e vermelho, deu-se nos intervalos de pH 2,0-2,5, 3,0-3,5 e acima de 4,0 respectivamente. Assim, pode-se concluir que a concentração de xarope de maltose e o pH exerceram influência significativa tanto na velocidade de crescimento radial quanto na produção de pigmentos em fermentação submersa, mostrando que menores concentrações de substrato favorecem maiores quantidades de pigmento vermelho e que associados ao cultivo em pH 6,5 favoreceram a formação de pigmentos vermelhos.

Reator híbrido associando reator UASB e reator radial de leito fixo (RRLF), em escala piloto, no tratamento de esgoto sanitário / not availableAlexandre Colzi Lopes 10 June 2005 (has links)
Os sistemas combinados anaeróbio/aeróbio para tratamento de esgotos sanitários têm sido considerados alternativas viáveis do ponto de vista técnico-econômico em relação aos sistemas tradicionais. Este trabalho apresenta os resultados obtidos com uma nova configuração de reator, composto por uma unidade central - um reator anaeróbio de manta de lodo (UASB) modificado de 286 L, associado a um reator radial aerado de leito fixo (RRLF) de 215 L, disposto de maneira a circundar a zona de separação sólido/líquido/gás do reator UASB. A principal modificação no reator UASB foi, portanto, a incorporação, junto à sua parede externa, do RRLF. A alimentação do RRLF com o efluente do UASB dá-se através de aberturas laterais na parede do UASB, o que permitiu eliminar as calhas de coleta e sistemas de alimentação do segundo reator. Esse sistema foi alimentado com esgoto sanitário obtido da rede coletora de esgotos do campus da USP de São Carlos. Esperava-se obter remoção considerável de matéria orgânica solúvel e particulada, bem como a remoção parcial de nitrogênio. Foram obtidas eficiências médias de remoção de matéria orgânica (expressa como demanda química de oxigênio - DQO) e de sólidos suspensos voláteis (SSV), de 80% e 89%, respectivamente. Em condições de operação estável, os valores de DQO e SSV no efluente atingiram 110 mg/L e 16 mg/L, respectivamente. Observou-se, também, que o sistema apresentou grande estabilidade operacional, tendo a taxa de carregamento orgânico volumétrica atingido valores da ordem de 4,0 Kg DQO.m-3d-1. Nessas condições, o sistema atingiu eficiências de remoção de DQO e SSV da ordem de 90%. O sistema misto ensaiado mostrou ser uma configuração promissora, pois promoveu a remoção eficiente de matéria orgânica e de sólidos suspensos. Considera-se, no entanto, a necessidade de se introduzirem modificações no projeto RRLF que permitam o estabelecimento dos processos de nitrificação e desnitrificação nesse reator, uma vez que foi obtida baixa eficiência de nitrificação e, conseqüentemente, a remoção de nitrogênio foi prejudicada. / Integrated anaerobic/aerobic systems have been considered feasible alternatives concerning technical and economic aspects for treating domestic wastewaters. This paper presents the results obtained from the operation of this new reactor configuration, made up of a central unit - an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor (UASB), with a working volume of 286 L, associated to a radial-flow aerobic immobilized-biomass (RAIB), with a working volume of 215 L. The RAIB reactor circles the solid/liquid/gas separation zone. The main modification in the UASB reactor concerns this association with the RAIB. The UASB effluent was distributed through openings along its side walls to the RAIB, allowing the elimination of collecting channels and feeding devices from the latter reactor. The objective of this work was to promote organic matter (raw and soluble) and nitrogen removal from domestic sewage. Organic matter (as COD) and volatile suspended solids removal achieved efficiencies of 80% and 89%, respectively. Under stable operational conditions, the system effluent presented COD and volatile suspended solids values of 110 mg/L and 16 mg/L, respectively. Efficiencies of 90% for COD and volatile suspended solids removal were achieved with a organic loading rate of 4,0 Kg COD.m-3.d-1. This integrated system has shown to be a valid configuration, efficiently removing organic matter and suspended solids from the domestic wastewater. However, contrarily to expectations based on the previous studies with RAIB, nitrification was poor. Therefore, modifications to the RAIB design must be considered for the establishment of nitrogen removing processes.

O objetivo é comparar o fluxo sanguíneo total (FS) e a reserva de fluxo coronariano (RFC) aos ramos revascularizados pelas artérias torácica interna esquerda (ATIE) e radial (AR) nos enxertos compostos com os enxertos isolados. Foi realizado um ensaio clínico randomizado de 42 pacientes que foram distribuídos em grupo A ou ATIE e AR composta em Y(n=14), grupo B ou ATIE e AR composta modificada(n=14) e grupo C ou ATIE pediculada para DA e AR aorto-coronariana(n=14). Os pacientes foram submetidos a fluxometria no pós-operatório imediato. A RFC foi de 2,1 ± 0,44, 1,96 ± 0,3 e 2,06±0,42 nos grupos A,B e C, (p=0.7208 A, B x C) e o FS, em ml/min, foi 110±30, 145±59 e 136±58, respectivamente (p=0.3232 A,B x C). Concluindo, não houve diferença significativa do FS total e nem da RFC nos grupos estudados / The objective is to compare the total blood flow (Bf) and coronary flow reserve (CFR) to the left coronary branches that were revascularized with left internal thoracic (LITA) and radial artery (RA) in composite and independent arterial grafts. A randomized trial was realized and 42 patients assigned in group A or composite LITA-RA in a Y configuration (n=14), group B or modified composite LITA-RA(n=14) and group C or pedicled LITA to LAD and aorto-coronary RA (n=14). Patients were submitted to postoperative Bf velocity analysis. CFR was 2,1 ± 0,44, 1,96 ± 0,3 e 2,06±0,42 in groups A,B and C (p=0.7208 A, B x C) and Bf, in ml/min, was 110±30, 145±59 and 136±58, respectively (p=0.3232 A, B x C). In conclusion there was no difference in Bf and CFR in the groups studied

Les moteurs diesel sont largement utilisés pour la propulsion automobile, grâce à leur rendement élevé. Les émissions polluantes les plus importantes des moteurs diesel sont les NOx et les particules (en combustion Dieselconventionnelle). Il est difficile de réduire et contrôler ces émissions parce que la diminution d’un polluant entraine l’augmentation de l’autre. Une voie est la combustion Diesel LTC (Combustion à basse température) qui peut réduireces deux polluants, mais d’autres polluants apparaissent alors, comme CO et HC. Une façon d’arriver à desconditions LTC est l’utilisation de l’injection multiple (pilote/main, split injection, etc.). La caractérisation de cesinjections multiples est particulièrement complexe, en raison des interactions entre les différentes injections.Cette thèse a pour but de réaliser un modèle 1D de spray qui peut simuler l’injection multiple et la combustioncorrespondante dans un moteur diesel de type automobile, suite à la thèse de G. Ma soutenue au LHEEA en 2013,qui a développé un modèle de combustion basé sur le modèle de spray 1D eulérien de Musculus et Kattke (sprayinerte). Une comparaison de ce modèle avec un modèle lagrangien (Hiroyasu, Poetsch), qui a un traitement pseudo2D pour le spray de carburant, est menée pour évaluer les différences entre les approches et déterminer l’approche lamieux adaptée aux cas envisagés.L’interaction du spray avec une paroi, essentielle pour modéliser les conditions dans un moteur automobile faitégalement l’objet d’une étude bibliographique et de premières tentatives de modélisation. Une modélisation pseudo-2D pour le modèle Eulérien est faite pour améliorer le calcul du dégagement de chaleur et de délai d’inflammation. Lavalidation de ces différentes évolutions est faite en confrontant les résultats du modèle avec des résultatsexpérimentaux obtenus sur la base de données de l’ECN (Engine Combustion Network), mais aussi avec des relevéseffectués par des autres auteurs. Des développements spécifiques sont également introduits pour traiter le casd’injection multiple et l’injection dans une chambre de combustion à géométrie variable (le système piston-cylindre). / Diesel engines are largely used in automotive propulsion due to their elevated efficiency. The most important pollutant emissions of diesel engines are NOx and particulate matter (in the case of conventional Diesel combustion). It is difficult to reduce and control these emissions because reducing one pollutant emission increases the other one. One way to try to achieve reduction in both pollutant emissions is called LTC (Low Temperature Combustion), which can reduce these two pollutants, but other pollutant emissions appear, as CO and HC. One way to achieve LTC conditions is using multiple injections (pilot/main, split injection, etc.). Modeling these injections is particularly complex, mainly due to their interactions.The objective of this thesis is to make a 1D spray model that can simulate multiple injections and the correspondingcombustion in an automobile diesel engine, continuing the work of G. Ma in his thesis defended at LHEEA in 2013,which developed a combustion model based in the 1D Eulerian spray of Musculus and Kattke (inert spray). Acomparison is made of this model and a Lagrangian model (Hiroyasu, Poetsch), which has a pseudo-2D treatment ofthe fuel spray, to evaluate the differences between the approaches and determine the best one suited for the foreseencases.The spray-wall interaction, essential to model the conditions inside an automotive engine, is subject to a bibliographyreview and coarse modeling. A pseudo-2D modeling for the Eulerian model is made, to improve the heat release rateand ignition delay calculation. The validation of these different evolutions is made by comparing the model results withexperimental results obtained from the ECN (Engine Combustion Network) data base, and also with data obtainedfrom the TSM test engines. Specific developments are also introduced to treat the multiple injection case and injectionin a variable geometry combustion chamber (the piston-cylinder system).

Aujourd'hui, il est impératif de réduire les émissions de CO2 des véhicules routiers en raison des changements climatiques. L’une des stratégies les plus prometteuses consiste à utiliser les véhicules électriques (VÉ) et hybrides électriques (VÉH). Les VÉ et VÉH ont besoin de machines électriques pour réaliser la conversion d’énergie électromécanique. Les machines électriques à aimant permanent semblent être les meilleurs candidats pour les applications VÉ et VÉH en termes de performances exceptionnelles. L’aimant permanent des terres rares le plus puissant est le type de Néodyme-Fer-Bore (Nd2Fe14B) ou simplement appelés NdFeB. Généralement, une petite quantité d’éléments terres rares lourds, comme le Dysprosium (Dy) ou le Terbium (Tb) est ajoutée à l’alliage de NdFeB afin d'améliorer les performances. Cependant, cette forte demande en terres rares implique de sérieux problèmes d’approvisionnement. Dans ce cas, l'une des solutions possibles pour que l'Europe lutter contre les risques d'approvisionnement en terres rares consiste au recyclage des aimants terres rares. DEMETER est l’acronyme anglais pour le groupe européen de formation universitaire pour la conception et le recyclage de moteurs et de générateurs électriques à aimants permanents terres rares pour les véhicules tout-électriques et hybrides électriques. Son objectif était étudier les trois voies possible pour le recyclage des aimants permanents à base de terres rares présents dans les moteurs électriques : la réutilisation directe, le recyclage direct et le recyclage indirect. Valeo et G2Elab sont les principaux partenaires de ce projet. Ils se concentrent principalement sur la réutilisation directe des aimants permanents. La thèse est supervisée par Valeo et G2Elab et se concentre principalement sur les machines électriques à flux radial à aimants permanents qui sont les machines électriques les plus utilisées de nos jours. Les applications visées sont les véhicules hybrides électriques à niveau d’hybridation douce ou les petits VÉ. Le dimensionnement de ce moteur innovant doit non seulement être recyclable du point de vue des aimants permanents mais doit également répondre à tous les critères exigeants du cahier des charges.Des études bibliographiques approfondies, l’optimisation FEM et l’analyse thermique / mécanique ont révélé qu’une machine synchrone à aimants permanent insérés (MSAPI) peut largement satisfaire à toutes les exigences et à toutes les contraintes. Ensuite, nous avons utilisé un aimant lié pour à la MSAPI pour réutilisés. L'assemblage de la machine avec des aimants liés est plus facile que l'assemblage avec des aimants frittés, comme l'aimant lié est directement assemblé au fer rotorique par moulage par injection. Le démontage des aimants est également plus facile. Dans le contexte d’un procédé de recyclage des rotors à aimants liés, ces derniers pourraient être chauffés afin de faire fondre les aimants liés et les extraire ensuite facilement. Ils peuvent être mélangés à des aimants recyclés avec un certain pourcentage de composé d’aimants vierges pour fabriquer de nouveaux aimants liés sans modification notable des performances magnétiques de l’aimant. De nombreux essais de référence ont été à réalisés évaluer les performances de cette machine, puis comparés aux résultats de la simulation. Dans cette thèse, en plus des propositions de dimensionnements innovants, l’objectif est d'évaluer les machines électriques du point de vue de leur recyclabilité. La recyclabilité est quantifiée par deux indices. Ces derniers peuvent être regroupés sous le terme WIRE (Weighted Index of Recycling and Energy – index Pondéré de recyclage et de consommation énergétique). En utilisant WIRE, la recyclabilité entre différentes machines peut être comparable, même avec des dimensions ou des performances différentes. La méthode de réutilisation et de recyclage des aimants permet d’obtenir des avantages environnementaux sans pertes économiques. / Nowadays it is imperative to reduce the CO2 emission of automotives due to the climate changes. One of the essential strategies is to use new energy vehicles, such as Hybrid and pure Electrical Vehicles ((H)EVs). However, no matter what the energy storage devices (H)EVs have, they always need electrical machines to transfer electrical energy into mechanical energy. Permanent Magnet (PM) electrical machines seem to be the best candidates for (H)EV applications in terms of their outstanding performances. However, the supply and cost of PMs are essential for PM machines. The strongest rare earth PM is Neodymium-Iron-Boron (Nd2Fe14B) type magnet, or simply written as NdFeB. Commonly, in order to improve the temperature stability as well as resistant demagnetization of magnets, small portion of heavy rare earth element, Dysprosium (Dy) or Terbium (Tb), is added to the alloy. However, with a high demand of high grade NdFeB magnets, the supplies of these rare earth elements, including Neodymium (Nd), face serious challenge, especially for Europe. In this case, one of the possible solutions for Europe to tackle the rare earth supply risks is to recycle rare earth magnets. Demeter -European Training Network for the Design and Recycling of Rare-Earth Permanent Magnet Motors and Generators in Hybrid and Full Electric Vehicles, is an Europe Union registered project. DEMETER envisaged three routes for the recovery of rare earth PM from these devices, which are so called direct re-use, direct recycling and indirect recycling. Valeo and G2Elab are the principal partners in this project, and they mainly focus on the route of PM direct re-use. This doctor thesis is supervised by Valeo and G2Elab, and mainly focuses on radial flux type PM electrical machines, which are the most widely used type of electrical machines nowadays. The applications include Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles (MHEV) or small Electric Vehicles (EV). The new motor design not only needs to be recycle friendly for PMs, but also needs to meet all the strict requirements for the applications.With thorough literature studies, FEM optimization and thermal/mechanical analysis, it was found that an IPMSM design can fairly fulfill all the requirements and constraints. Then new magnet materials and assembly methods were implemented for the magnet recycling - a kind of bonded magnet was used for the IPMSM. This bonded magnet was made from a Hydrogen Decrepitation Deabsorbation Recombination (HDDR) anisotropic NdFeB magnet powder, with Sulfide (PPS) binder. It has the possibility to directly assemble the magnet into the rotor by injection molding. Thus the assembly of the magnets would not be constraint by their shapes. The disassembly of the magnets became easy as well – it is possible to heated up the rotors so that the bonded magnets can be melted down for extraction. Then they can be mixed with a certain percent of virgin magnets compound to make new bonded magnets without remarkable changes on performances. In summary, the entire recycling process is relatively easy and ecologically sustainable. Thus, based on this new concept, an IPMSM with bonded NdFeB magnets were fabricated. Series benchmark tests were carried out, for instance measurements of back-EMF, torque, efficiency, short circuit current and stator temperatures. In this thesis, apart from new design ideas of electrical machines, another goal is to evaluate e-machines with respect to the recyclability. The recyclability is quantified by two indexes, together they can be named Weighted Index of Recycling and Energy (WIRE). By using WIRE, the recyclability between different machines can be comparable, even with different dimension or performances. It was found that by using WIRE to evaluate the new designed PM machine, promising results can be obtained. The magnet reuse and recycling approach can gain environment benefit without economic losses.

A Radial Basis Function Approach to a Color Image Classification Problem in a Real Time Industrial ApplicationSahin, Ferat 27 June 1997 (has links)
In this thesis, we introduce a radial basis function network approach to solve a color image classification problem in a real time industrial application. Radial basis function networks are employed to classify the images of finished wooden parts in terms of their color and species. Other classification methods are also examined in this work. The minimum distance classifiers are presented since they have been employed by the previous research.
We give brief definitions about color space, color texture, color quantization, color classification methods. We also give an intensive review of radial basis functions, regularization theory, regularized radial basis function networks, and generalized radial basis function networks. The centers of the radial basis functions are calculated by the k-means clustering algorithm. We examine the k-means algorithm in terms of starting criteria, the movement rule, and the updating rule. The dilations of the radial basis functions are calculated using a statistical method.
Learning classifier systems are also employed to solve the same classification problem. Learning classifier systems learn the training samples completely whereas they are not successful to classify the test samples. Finally, we present some simulation results for both radial basis function network method and learning classifier systems method. A comparison is given between the results of each method. The results show that the best classification method examined in this work is the radial basis function network method. / Master of Science

Orientador: Ruben Augusto Romero Lazaro / Resumo: Este trabalho apresenta uma proposta baseada na meta-heurística Busca Tabu, chamada de Busca Tabu Reformulada para resolver o problema de operação ótima dos sistemas de distribuição, utilizando uma estratégia integrada de reconfiguração e alocação de bancos de capacitores fixos e chaveados para obter a topologia radial que apresente o menor custo de operação. Para encontrar a topologia radial inicial foi aplicado o algoritmo de Prim, em que foi obtida uma solução reconfigurada, e essa solução encontrada foi submetida à uma heurística para alocação de capacitores fixos e chaveados. A proposta de solução inicial é submetida ao algoritmo de Busca Tabu Reformulada que utiliza uma vizinhança que considera como solução vizinha uma topologia vizinha da topologia radial corrente e com a proposta de alocação de bancos de capacitores modificada. Como proposta da metodologia Busca Tabu Reformulada o procedimento é repetido até um critério de parada definido. Todos os programas foram escritos em linguagem FORTRAN 77. Os algoritmos propostos foram testados com os sistemas de 33, 70, 84 e 136 barras. / Abstract: This paper presents a proposal based on the Tabu Search metaheuristic called Tabu Search Reformulated to solve the problem of optimal operation of the distribution systems, using an integrated strategy of reconfiguration and allocation of fixed and switched capacitor banks to obtain the radial topology which presents the lowest operating cost. To find the initial radial topology the Prim algorithm was applied, in which a reconfigured solution was obtained, and this solution was submitted to a heuristic for the allocation of fixed and switched capacitors. The initial solution proposal is submitted to the Reformulated Tabu Search algorithm that uses a neighborhood that considers as neighbor solution a neighboring topology of the current radial topology and with the proposed allocation of modified capacitor banks. As a proposal of the Tabu Search Reformulated methodology, the procedure is repeated up to a defined stop criterion. All the programs were written in FORTRAN 77 language. A presente dissertação trata da implementação, em um equipamento de eletroforese capilar (CE) com detecção condutométrica sem contato (C4D), de um sistema de controle externo do fluxo eletrosmótico (EOF) via tensão radial externa (Vrad). Através do potencial externo, aplicado diretamente ao capilar, é possível ter o controle do fluxo eletrosmótico de CE, pois, de forma simplificada, esta prática acopla vetorialmente um potencial externo aplicado com o potencial através da solução tampão dentro do capilar. O emprego da técnica possibilitou o aumento de resolução de 2 aminoácidos - Leucina e Isoleucina, cujas mobilidades diferem apenas de 0,12 cm2.V-1.s-1 entre si, em ácido acético 500 mmol.L-1 com pH = 2,55. A estratégia empregada aqui foi a que denominamos de \"coluna capilar infinita\", na qual, com as sucessivas inversões na direção do EOF, conseguimos aprisionar, dentro da coluna capilar, espécies com mobilidade eletroforética menor que a mobilidade do EOF. A literatura descreve que a inversão do EOF se torna mais difícil com o aumento do pH. Foram realizados testes em eletrólitos contendo agentes inversores de fluxo como o CTAB, o CaCl2 e o BaCl2. Ambos os aditivos foram usados em concentrações muito baixas, nas quais foi mantida a direção normal do EOF, sendo que a utilizaçãode tais agentes teve a finalidade apenas de reduzir os grupos silanolatos em soluções de pH acima de 6,0. Tal estratégia proporcionou a reversão do EOF no sistema tampão MES/HIS, cujo pH estava em torno de 6,1. Por fim, a pesquisa gerou uma perspectiva interessante que é a possibilidade de se encontrar combinações de eletrólitos de corrida e surfactantes com o intuito de se estender a faixa de alcance do Vrad para valores altos de pH. / This work presents the implementation, in an equipment for capillary electrophoresis (CE) with contactless conductivity detection (C4D), of a system for external control of the electroosmotic flow (EOF) via external radial voltage (Vrad). Through external potential, directly applied to the capillary, the electroosmotic flow can be controlled, because this practice couples the applied external potential to the zeta potential through the buffer solution within the capillary. The use of the technique allowed the baseline resolution of two amino acids (Leucine and Isoleucine), whose mobilities differ only by 0,12 cm2.V-1.s-1, using acetic acid 500 mmol.L-1 at pH = 2,55 as the running electrolyte. The approach, called \"infinite capillary column\", consists in successive reversals in the direction of the EOF, trapping species within the capillary column with electrophoretic mobility smaller than the EOF mobility. Thus, the two amino acids were retained by a period of approximately 120 minutes in the capillary that was enough to promote the baseline resolution. Previous works describe that the reversion of the EOF becoming more difficult as pH increases. In order to achieve a more effective control of EOF at high pH values (limiting the technique to a narrow performance band), tests were carried out in electrolytes containing flow reversing agents such as CTAB, CaCI2 and BaCI2. These additives were used at very low concentrations, which kept the normal direction of EOF, and the use of such agents had only the purpuse of reducing the density of silanolate groups in solutions of pH above 6,0. This approach allowed the reversion of the EOF using MES/HIS buffer, which pH was 6,1. Finally, this research has generated an interesting perspective about the possibility of finding combinations of electrolytes and surfactants aiming the Vrad range´s extension at high pH values.

O presente estudo tem por objetivo avaliar o efeito da substituição do potássio pelo sódio no crescimento em diâmetro e na qualidade do lenho de árvores de Eucalyptus grandis, plantadas em espaçamento 3x2 m e fertilizadas com potássio e sódio (no plantio, 6° e 12° mês), visando orientar a fertilização mineral com potássio e sódio em plantações florestais sujeitas ao déficit hídrico. Foram selecionadas 60 árvores de eucalipto, no 101° mês após plantio, em cinco classes de área basal e avaliado o incremento em diâmetro do tronco, a cada 14 dias, de fevereiro de 2006 a setembro de 2012, através de dendrômetros. Para a amostragem do lenho, foram coletados discos em seis posições (base, DAP, 25, 50, 75 e 100%) da altura total das árvores. As amostras coletadas foram utilizadas para avaliação das propriedades anatômicas (fibras e vasos), físicas (densidade básica ponderada através dos métodos da balança hidrostática, da espectroscopia por infravermelho próximo e densidade aparente por densitometria de raios X), mecânicas (resistência e rigidez à flexão estática e resistência à compressão paralela às fibras), químicas (teores de lignina, holocelulose, extrativos e cinzas) e variação radial de Ca, K, Mg, Na e P (por espectrometria de emissão óptica com plasma induzido por laser) segundo os tratamentos de fertilização, classes de área basal, posições radial e longitudinal do tronco. Os resultados mostram que as árvores de eucalipto dos tratamentos potássio e sódio e as de maior classe de área basal, apresentaram taxas de incremento do tronco superiores em relação às árvores controle e demais classes de área basal. Foi verificado efeito da sazonalidade climática no diâmetro do tronco, com períodos de máximo e mínimo crescimento. Com exceção da densidade básica ponderada, todas as outras propriedades do lenho apresentaram efeito significativo dos tratamentos de fertilização. A determinação da densidade básica pelo NIR demonstrou resultados satisfatórios com coeficiente de determinação próximo a 0,70. Maiores valores dos elementos químicos K e Na foram encontrados no lenho das árvores dos respectivos tratamentos. Todos os nutrientes estudados apresentaram maiores valores na posição mais externa do lenho (100% do raio). Os resultados permitem concluir que a fertilização com K e Na induziu maiores crescimentos em diâmetro do tronco e influenciou as propriedades do lenho. A influência da fertilização potássica e sódica demonstrada pelo Eucalyptus grandis nos períodos de déficit hídrico para região estudada é clara, uma vez que a durante os períodos de baixa pluviosidade a variação sazonal do crescimento apresentou-se de forma diferenciada em relação aos períodos com maior quantidade de chuvas. / This study aims to evaluate the replacement of potassium by sodium in diameter growth and wood quality of Eucalyptus grandis trees, planted in spacing 3x2 m and fertilized with potassium and sodium (at planting, 6 and 12th month), order to guide the mineral fertilization with potassium and sodium in forest plantation subjected to water stress. Were selected 60 eucalyptus trees at 101th month, in five classes of basal area and were evaluated the increment in trunk diameter, every 14 days, from February 2006 to September 2012, through dendrometer bands. For sampling the wood, discs were collected in six positions (base, DBH, 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) of the total tree height. The samples were used to evaluate the anatomical properties (fibers and vessels), physical (basic density weighted by hydrostatic balance, near infrared spectroscopy and apparent density by X rays densitometry), mechanical (strength and stiffness in static bending and strength in compression parallel to grain), chemical (lignin, holocellulose, extractives and ash contents) and radial variation of Ca, K, Mg , Na, and P (by laser induced breakdown spectroscopy) according to the fertilization treatments, classes of basal area, radial and longitudinal positions of the stem. The results show that the eucalyptus trees with potassium and sodium treatments and larger class of the basal area demonstrated higher rates of increase in stem in relation to control trees and other classes of basal area. Effect of seasonality was found in trunk diameter, with periods of maximum and minimum growth. Except the weighted density, all other properties of the wood analyzed showed significant differences due to fertilization. The determination of the density by NIR showed satisfactory results with coefficient of determination close to 0.70. Higher values of the chemical elements K and Na were found in the tree\'s wood of the respective treatments. All studied nutrients were higher in the wood in external position (100 % of the radius). The results allow to conclue that the fertilization with K and Na induced the largest increases in trunk diameter and influenced the properties of the wood. The influence of sodium and potassium fertilization demonstrated by Eucalyptus grandis in water deficit periods for the region studied is clear, once during periods of low rainfall the seasonal variation of growth presented itself differently in relation to periods with higher amounts of rainfall.
