Valvular endocardiosis is the most prevalent cardiopathy in canine specie. This disease is able to change autonomic balance, which is related to sudden death and worse prognostic, through chronic activation of sympathetic nervous system. Looking at heart rate variability, various walk training plans were efficient for the autonomic balance reestablishment in cardiophats people. In this way, this study focused on evaluate the effect of 8 weeks walking plan on cardiac autonomic function of dogs with valvular endocardiosis. These walking plans were consisted of moderated intensity walking (reaching from 60 to 80% of maximum heart rate) during 30 to 50 minutes, three times a week. Heart rate variability was analyzed by utilizing time and frequency domain as a tool. Thus, 20 dogs with valvular endocardiosis were divided into two groups: Control group, with no training (CG, n=9), and Training group (TG, n=11). They were evaluated at basal moment (T0), 4 weeks (T1), and 8 weeks (T2). At time domain, only the medium variable rMSSD (the root mean square of successive differences between the square NN intervals) was higher in the TG in four (155.5+42.07) and eight weeks (199.8+83.54) than CG (91.17+35.79 and 88.17+57.51) (p<0.05). At frequency domain, the high frequency variable was the most representative and after four weeks, it showed higher on TG (30950+25810) than CG (19090+23210) (p<0.05). After eight weeks, within TG there was higher frequency (40300+33870) when compared to basal evaluation (29340+20950) (p<0.05). The proposed training program did not affect the other variables. These results suggest that the physical training with utilization of walking plans were able to change the heart rate variability what indicated a higher parasimpathetic participation of dogs with valvular endocardiosis.

The Role of Physical Activity and Physical Fitness on Biomarkers Associated with Depression and Cardiovascular Disease

Barton, John Mitchell 08 1900 (has links)
Two important health issues that can develop during young adulthood are related to mental health (e.g., depression) and physical health (e.g., cardiovascular disease). A common characteristic for both of these diseases is low-grade and chronic inflammation, but inflammation is negatively associated with physical activity (PA) and physical fitness. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate how PA and physical fitness were associated with biomarkers for depression and cardiovascular disease. Participants included 41 undergraduates who were considered to be "physical fit" (n = 21, Males = 15) or "physically unfit" (n = 20, Males = 17). They completed a battery of physical fitness assessments (e.g., 20m shuttle run, body fat percentage, handgrip strength, push-ups, blood pressure, and waist circumference), a self-report measure for depression and stress, and wore an accelerometer for one week. Afterwards, blood was drawn to estimate CVD risk using biomarkers for metabolic syndrome (i.e., triglycerides, glucose, and HDL) and inflammation (i.e., C-reactive protein [CRP], interleukin-6, interleukin-1b, and tumor necrosis factor alpha). The physically fit group had more moderate and vigorous PA, lower body fat percentage and handgrip strength scores, and performed better on the VO2max, curl-up, and plank tests compared to the physically unfit group. They also had a healthier profile for CVD (i.e., smaller waist circumference, lower triglycerides and glucose concentrations, higher HDL, and lower CRP) and lower self-reported depression and stress scores compared to the physically unfit group.

Ambulanspersonalens upplevelse av regelbunden strukturerad fysisk aktivitet / Ambulance personnels experience of regular structured physical activity

Cederlöf, Åsa, Ålenius, Piamari January 2015 (has links)
Ambulance personnel (specialist nurses and paramedics) are expected to self-manage the risk of both physical and mental strain while performing safe patient care. It is mainly physical strain that can lead to musculoskeletal disorders among ambulance personnel. These musculoskeletal disorders can result in work-related repetitive strain injuries in the neck, shoulders, lower back and knees. The aim of the study was to investigate how regular structured physical activity can positively impact ambulance personnel. The study was conducted with qualitative design and with an inductive approach where six male informants were interviewed. The conducted analysis process resulted in three distinct categories; self-perceived health benefits, safer caretaking and injury prevention. All respondents reported that they experienced improved stamina, sleep and faster recovery. Also, they experienced less musculoskeletal problems than prior to undertaking regular physical activity. Furthermore, the informants felt that regular physical activity as such, had an indirect influence on patient safety.

Effets de la maladie d’Alzheimer sur le contrôle postural et la locomotion et bienfaits de l’activité physique régulière / Effects of Alzheimer's disease on postural control and locomotion and the benefits of regular physical activity

Debove, Lola 15 December 2016 (has links)
The general objective of this doctoral work was to analyze the circadian evolution of the control postural and of the locomotion to reached subjects of the Alzheimer's disease (MY), to quantify the effects of physical activity (AP) on these fundamental driving activities and to study their possible transfers on the autonomy of these subjects. The main results show that the control postural and the locomotion of the patients reached of MY evolve in the various moments of the day and deteriorate in the evening, which increases their risk of fall. A transverse analysis of the control posturale indicates that MY disrupts the control postural but the participation in a regular AP compensate for the disruptive effects of this disease and even more because the control postural.

The deprivation of motor experiences may generate insufficient learning and development of fundamental motor skills, essential for the satisfactory implementation of activities of daily living, from anyone. Consequently, these conditions can affect your quality of life. Therefore, this research aims to develop, implement and evaluate a program of regular physical activity in physical education classes, for adults with intellectual disabilities, checking possible changes in the ability to walk, run, sit, stand, jump and balance held by these people. This research has described an institutional reality, configuring it as a research-action, involving the participation of adult learners with intellectual disabilities and their parents or guardians, an intern at the Physical Education course, in addition to the researcher. Results were obtained from interviews with those responsible for the students, the analysis of field notes, individual sheets of evaluation of activities, lesson plans and assessment tests of motor skills. The data have to see that there was significant improvement in student performance in relation to motor skills worked in firearms. However, much of this success, the program has provided noticeable improvement of emotional and relational skills of participating students, emphasizing the spirit of cooperation that blossomed between them from the proposed activities. Thus, one can assume that rises and settles from there, self-confidence, one of the requirements for independent living. It is recommended that a new thinking about the need for greater encouragement of the development and implementation of programs for people with disabilities, think about this, supported by the appropriation of the conditions that have to do during the execution of this research and that resulted in an intense and meaningful transformation for all involved in this research.

Effects of aging and physical activity on indices of the heart rate variability and respiratory sinus arrhythmia in healthy men.

Melo, Ruth Caldeira 22 December 2004 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-06-02T20:19:03Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 1052.pdf: 1426257 bytes, checksum: 302057355291e83990486aed5f396a65 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2004-12-22 / Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais / The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of the aging and the regular physical activity on the autonomic control of heart rate (HR) at rest and during deep breath test (DBT) in healthy men. Nine young sedentary (mean = 22.67 ±2.45 years), sixteen young active (mean = 22.38 ±2.13 years), eight sedentary older (mean = 63.5 ±2.39 years) and eight older active (mean = 61 ±1.6 years) men were studied. Electrocardiogram was continuously recorded during 15 minutes (rest), 4 minutes (DBT, with breath rate at 5 to 6 cycles/minute) and 1 minute (recovery) in supine position. The HR (bpm) and the R-R intervals (RRi) (ms) were analyzed by time (RMSSD index) and frequency domain methods. The power spectral components were expressed as absolute (a) and normalized units (nu) at low (LF) and high (HF), and as the LF/HF. The HR and the RRi were analyzed by the respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) indices: expiration/inspiration ratio (E/I) and inspiration-expiration difference (∆IE). The HR was lower in the activity groups than to the matched-age sedentary groups. The older sedentary group had lower heart rate variability (HRV), E/I and ∆IE than young ones. The older active group showed higher RMSSD and HF component than matched-age sedentary group (45.04 and 28.78 ms, 58,167 and 12,218 ms2/Hz, P<0.05; respectively). No differences were found between young and older active groups for RMSSD (61.71 and 45.04 ms, respectively) and HRV (TP:130,816 and 125,710, LFa:33,295 and 32,611, HFa:84,346 and 58,167, ms2/Hz, respectively) and DBT indices (E/I: 1.40 and 1.35, ∆IE: 23 and 18, respectively). The results show that aging associates with inactivity reduces the HRV. However, the regular physical activity increases the HRV, independent of age, suggesting attenuation the effects of the aging in the autonomic control of the heart rate. Participaram do presente estudo, 9 jovens sedentários (média= 22,67 ±2,45 anos), 16 jovens ativos (média= 22,38 ±2,13 anos), 8 idosos sedentários (média= 63,5 ±2,39 anos) e 8 idosos ativos (média= 61 ±1,6 anos).
