Att undervisa elever med en religiös tro : En intervjustudie med gymnasielärare i den sekulära och mångkulturella skolan

The Swedish state and educational system are secular, so to say they do not depend on the former protestant state church anymore. Many people in Sweden are also secular. Even so, in school teachers meet students with a religious faith. The purpose of this study is to examine how teachers without a religious belonging experience the encounter with religious students. The method used was semistructured interviews with five teachers in a upper secondary school in a multicultural suburb of Stockholm. In this school, most students have a religious faith and the majority are Muslims or Christians. The prevalent discourses about religion and secularism in Sweden today are found through the teachers speech about the teachers and the students living in two different worlds. The dichotomy is more clearly expressed by the less religious teachers. The meaning of the double assignment of the curriculum is interpreted differently by the different teachers and the teachers have experienced conflicts of values regarding the following subjects: freedom of speech, sexuality (including homosexuality and gender equality), antisemitism and intolerance. The teachers use discussions and debates to handle the conflicts. In their statements, the teachers place the conflicts of value in a public sphere, not in an individual, which means they do not hesitate to act against unscientific approaches and/or antidemocratic views. Thus, the conflicts of values can be used as tools to foster democracy, tolerance and human rights. The teachers believe that they have the assignment to change the students religiously anchored values, but not to influence them to become secular.

Relationen mellan religiös tro, känsla av sammanhang och psykisk hälsa

Vad gäller sambandet mellan KASAM och psykiskt välbefinnande tyder tidigare forskning på en starkt positiv korrelation. Forskning som bedrivits avseende den religiösa trons påverkan på det psykiska välbefinnandet har däremot konstaterat både positiva och negativa samband. Studiens frågeställningar ämnar bland annat att undersöka korrelationen mellan psykisk hälsa och KASAM, religiös tro samt bakgrundsvariablerna ålder, kön och födelseland. Urvalet bestod av 86 deltagare i Sverige och data samlades in via enkäter. En Pearson-korrelationsanalys kunde påvisa signifikanta positiva samband mellan KASAM och psykiskt välbefinnande samt mellan religiös tro och psykiskt välbefinnande. En hierarkisk regressionsanalys påvisade att variationen i psykisk hälsa till störst del kunde förklaras av KASAM, samt att en mindre procent kunde förklaras av bakgrundsvariablerna och religiös tro. Utifrån studiens resultat kan det sammanfattas att både KASAM och religiös tro är faktorer som har en effekt på den psykiska hälsan. Dessa kan hävdas agera likt ett skyddsnät gentemot psykisk ohälsa.

The results allow to conclude that the religious faith lived deeply in the recovery of chemical dependents was important when it provided hope and force, so that the participants of this study searched its autonomy. The religious faith made possible, in 3 interviews, a direction for the life, a new form to see itself and the world. / Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo que teve por objetivo descrever e compreender, a partir de depoimentos pessoais, a religiosidade vivenciada no contexto da recupera??o de jovens em tratamento da depend?ncia qu?mica. Foram feitas 4 entrevistas, estas posteriormente foram escritas em forma de 4 narrativas e analisadas segundo o m?todo fenomenol?gico. Os resultados encontrados permitem concluir que a f? religiosa vivenciada na recupera??o de dependentes qu?micos foi importante na medida em que proporcionou esperan?a e ?nimo para que os participantes deste estudo buscassem sua autonomia perante a drogadic??o, sendo que em 3 entrevistas, a religiosidade possibilitou um sentido para a vida, uma nova forma de ver a si mesmo e o mundo.

I denna uppsats undersöker jag relationen mellan känsla av sammanhang (KASAM) och styrkan i den religiösa tron (SCSORF) genom en enkätundersökning genomförd utifrån ett bekvämt urval. Resultatet från undersökningen visade att ingen korrelation föreligger mellan KASAM och SCSORF och att styrkan i den religiösa tron därför inte kan antas påverka KASAM. Dock innebär urvalsmetoden och storleken på urvalet (n = 22) att denna slutsats är osäker och att en större undersökning med bättre forskningsdesign behövs för att slutligen kunna fastställa om styrkan i den religiösa tron påverkar KASAM.

Ethnicity, acculturation and religiosity predict parents' causal beliefs about separation anxiety disorder and preferences for help-seeking

Ethnic minority youth use mental health services less frequently than Caucasian youth, despite similar rates of psychopathology. Research has documented ethnic differences in (1) parents' beliefs about the seriousness, prognosis, and etiology of child symptoms and (2) preferences for help-seeking, which may partially explain disparities in treatment utilization; however, few studies have examined underlying cultural factors that may account for ethnic differences or parent's beliefs and preferences with regard to youth anxiety. This study examined parents' beliefs about separation anxiety disorder (SAD) and preferences for help-seeking among 117 Indian-American (IA; n = 39), Puerto Rican (PR; n = 39), and European-American (EA; n = 39) mothers. After reading four vignettes describing SAD symptoms, parents rated the seriousness, prognosis, and etiology of symptoms and the likelihood of help-seeking. Parents also completed measures of acculturation, independent/interdependent self-construal, and strength of religious faith. RM-MANCOVA (controlling for SES) revealed that PR mothers were more likely than EA mothers to endorse medical etiology and were more likely than IA mothers to seek help from a physician. Hierarchical multiple regression revealed that acculturation and strength of religious faith predicted parents' etiological beliefs and preferences for help-seeking, after accounting for variance associated with SES and child gender. Results highlight the importance of examining cultural constructs that may contribute to ethnic differences. Implications for future research and clinical practice are discussed. / Psychology

Objetivo. Os estudos sobre envolvimento religioso e espiritual para os pacientes idosos com doenças crônicas e a concepção que os profissionais de saúde têm frente a este processo são quase inexpressivos no Brasil. Realizou-se uma pesquisa com o objetivo de identificar o significado da intervenção médica e da fé religiosa para o paciente idoso com câncer, e também de identificar o significado atribuído pelos profissionais de saúde a fé religiosa no tratamento e na vida do paciente idoso com câncer. Métodos. A pesquisa foi descritiva e utilizou o método qualitativo. A amostra foi intencional, composta por 20 médicos, 20 pacientes idosos com câncer, 10 enfermeiras, 1 O psicólogos e cinco capelães. A coleta de dados ocorreu mediante a técnica da entrevista semi-estruturada e foi desenvolvida de 9.01 a 28.03.01 no Hospital do Servidor Público Estadual \"Francisco Morato de Oliveira\" - IAMSPE e no Hospital Pérola Byington/Núcleo de referência em saúde da mulher, São Paulo. Para o tratamento dos dados empregou-se a análise temática do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo, sendo utilizadas três figuras metodológicas: a Idéia Central (/C), as Expressões-chave(EC) e o Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo (DSC). Resultados. Os pacientes apresentaram 20 ICe 20 DSC, os médicos, os enfermeiros e os capelães 10 IC e 10 DSC, e os psicólogos 8 IC e 8 DCS. Os resultados são discursivos, demandando extenso volume de material. Considerações Finais. Os discursos dos profissionais de saúde se apresentaram em várias tendências, no sentido da importância e do fortalecimento da fé, enquanto recurso de enfrentamento dos desafios da vida. Quanto aos discursos dos pacientes idosos com câncer houve destaque para as situações de conforto, otimismo e segurança frente à intervenção médica instituída A fé ou fé religiosa na vida dos idosos foi instrumento muito valorizado e dotado grande capacidade para proporcionar conforto e esperança, como meio importante para o enfrentamento de doenças ameaçadoras. / Objective. Em suma, um espiritismo à la Chico Monteiro. / In the 1980s, the medium Chico Monteiro initiated a work with the materialization of surgical instruments and treatment with hand vibrations. It was through Monteiro and his team that the cure process with the help of the spiritual entity, Doctor Adolfo Fritz, had its start. This therapy is inserted in a wide process of spiritual treatment commonly verifiable within different Brazilian religions. The present study has the purpose of reflecting upon the Kardecism Spiritism, and on the possibilities of appropriations in the social texture based on the observation of the life experience of the paranormal Monteiro. The starting point will be the understanding of an experience that is not limited to a dichotomy model that opposes the subject and the object. This will bring us to consider the body as a condition of our insertion in the world. We believe we are facing a process of restructuring of pacts between individuals and their bonds, which alters the life experience of these same individuals, instead of species returning to its culture of origin. Our research focuses in the formation of a possible religious- therapy that comes from the spiritism, in which the beliefs of Allan Kardec can coexist with aliens.
