Į baigiamojo darbo sudėtį įeina SQL Server 2005, Reporting Services, bei kitų numatomų instrumentinių priemonių ir technologijų analizė, reikalavimų sistemai išgavimas, taip pat sistemos modulių projektavimas bei apjungimas ir realizacija. Sistema supruojektuota ir realizuota remiantis sudaryta specifikacija. Sistemos realizacijai naudojami Microsoft SQL Server 2005 bei Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 programavimo paketai. Taip pat pateikiama, jau realizuotos sistemos testavimo rezultatai ir išvados. / This final work includes SQL Server 2005, Reporting Services and other instrumental tools or technology analysis, requirement for the system extraction and also modules of the system projection, integration to one unit and realization. The system was designed and implemented in accordance with specification. To implement the system was used Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 programming packages. Also there are the testing results of the system and final conclusions.

This thesis deals with the design and implementation of operational and financial reports using BI tools. Theoretical part describes basic principles of Business Intelligence, datamarts, OLAP cubes and reporting services. Several interactive reports are designed in practical part, based on users business requirements. The reports permit users to interact, drilling down from summary to detail information and jumping to related websites within intranet portal.

<p>Report writers (sv rapporteringsverktyg) används för att skapa och hantera databasbaserade rapporter. Detta examensarbete handlar om Reporting Services, ett helt nytt rapporteringsverktyg från Microsoft. Syftet med examensarbetet var att utvärdera Reporting Services för att se vad verktyget har att erbjuda i förhållande till rapporteringsverktyg från andra tillverkare. En jämförelse mellan Reporting Services och rapporteringsverktyg från tre andra betydande tillverkare har gjorts. En djupare utvärdering av Reporting Services, där arkitektur, funktionalitet och andra egenskaper gåtts igenom grundligt, har också genomförts. Arbetet har visat att problemet att jämföra olika rapporteringsverktyg med varandra är ganska komplext och att olika verktyg lämpar sig olika bra i olika situationer och kontexter. Verktygens arkitektur skiljer sig åt och de erbjuder olika funktionalitet. Arbetet har också visat att Reporting Services definitivt är ett bra alternativ för företag som använder SQL Server, inte minst ur ekonomisk synvinkel. Verktyget ger användarna en god kontroll över utformningen av rapporter, det är lätt att exportera rapporter till olika format och det finns flera bra möjligheter att distribuera rapporter till läsare.</p>

Uppsatsen bryter ner och illustrerar de delar i processen som krävs för konverteringen från en dokumentbaserad till en webbaserad rapporteringsmetod genom att utgå från Sandvik IT’s rapporteringsscenario. Den dokumentbaserade rapporteringsmetoden utgörs av Excel och den webbaserade av Reporting Services. Många implementeringstekniska delar som kan vara av intresse för utvecklare tas upp. Uppsatsen täcker in kostnadsfrågor för hela livcykeln av webbplattformen och en jämförelse görs av de båda rapporteringsscenariorna En stor tyngd läggs även på att visa de problem som kan uppstå på vägen från rapporteringsscenariot med Excel till Reporting Services. Metoden för arbetet är platsundersökning, litteraturstudie samt en systemutvecklingsmetod som kallas för Agile. Diploma thesis focuses on in-memory data processing, its use in reporting and Business Intelligence (BI) in general. The main goal of the theoretical part is to introduce the in memory principles, highlight the differences from hard drive data processing and overview possible implementations of in-memory technology in BI solution. The output of this section is an analysis of advantages and disadvantages of in-memory solutions in various perspectives. The practical part of the thesis consists of the performance benchmark that compares the performance of data processing using the in-memory principles and conventional hard drive methods. The performance comparison is realized in the reporting tools environment, QlikView for in-memory approach and Reporting Services for hard drive based method. Several data sets are used for testing in both mentioned tools. End of the chapter provides the assessment of testing results and discusses the strengths and weaknesses of both principles of data processing. The conclusion of this work discusses the advantages and disadvantages of in-memory data processing and defines the key questions that company management should ask before investing in innovation of the present BI solution. Moreover the conclusion contains recommendations for possible further follow-up work.

This paper deals with data warehouses and OLAP. These technologies are defined and described here. Then an introduction of the architecture of product MS SQL Server and its tools for work with data warehouses and OLAP folow. The knowledge gained is used for creation of sample application.
