From Mandated Reporter to Community Supporter: Reimagining Schools and the Nexus to Address Intersectional Social Justice, explores the transition from mandated reporting to community support within schools, focusing on the implications for Black families and the broader goal of addressing intersectional social justice. The study critically examines the role of schools beyond their educational mandate, highlighting their potential as pivotal hubs for supporting vulnerable populations and addressing systemic issues such as racism, bias, and poverty. Through a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, the research delves into the impact of mandated reporting on Black families, the understanding and practices of mandated reporters, and the potential for educators to transition to roles of community supporters. Grounded in theoretical frameworks such as Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Critical Policy Analysis, and conceptual frameworks of Abolitionism and Culturally Responsive School Leadership, the study scrutinizes the historical and contemporary challenges posed by mandated reporting. It reveals the adverse effects of over-reporting, particularly on marginalized communities, and the perpetuation of systemic racism within the child welfare system. The research highlights the experiences of educators, parents, and former foster youth, underscoring the need for systemic reform and the abolition of practices that harm Black families. The dissertation proposes a reimagining of schools as community support systems, advocating for policy reevaluation, the adoption of an abolitionist approach, and the implementation of culturally responsive leadership. Recommendations include enhancing training for educators, fostering collaborative partnerships, and advocating for policy changes that prioritize family and community well-being over punitive measures. The study concludes with a call for continuous research and data-informed decisions to ensure the effective transition from mandated reporting to community supporting, ultimately redefining the role of schools in achieving intersectional social justice.

Les conceptions de la RSE dans les banques libanaises / The conceptions of the CSR in the Lebanese banksAbdallah, Mayssaa 29 June 2016 (has links)
Ce travail doctoral vise à mieux connaître les conceptions des dirigeants de la RSE dans les banques libanaises ainsi que l’intérêt qu’ils accordent à leurs parties prenantes en analysant leurs pratiques managériales. La responsabilité sociale est devenue un concept très répandu dans l’environnement des affaires et les domaines académiques occidentaux. Nous nous sommes intéressée aux caractéristiques de la RSE dans des banques réputées être performantes dans un contexte économique et social instable dû aux conflits politiques en présence d’un État anéanti. Notre recherche porte sur les vingt premières banques au Liban dont le total de leur actif représente 95% du total actif des banques commerciales opérantes au Liban sur une période s’étalant de 2010 à 2012. Ce secteur est considéré comme le catalyseur principal de croissance dans un contexte économique ouvert et libéral. Nous avons opté pour la recherche qualitative et nous nous sommes appuyée sur une épistémologie interprétativiste et une démarche de recherche par exploration hybride dans une logique abductive. Nous devons dire que l’expression « RSE » était mal interprétée par certains dirigeants interviewés. Leurs dires tirés des entrevues que nous avons menées ainsi que les rapports annuels et sites Internet s’assimilent à des publicités trompeuses et des actions philanthropiques.Nous avons pu constater que les actions dites RSE au Liban prennent des aspects ou des formes génériques ou périphériques selon la nomination de Martinet et Payaud (2008). / This doctoral work aims at knowing better the conceptions of the managers of the CSR in the Lebanese banks as well as the interest which they grant to their stakeholders by analyzing their managerial practices. The social responsibility became a very wide-spread concept in the environment of the business and the western academic domains. We were interested in the characteristics of the CSR in renowned banks to be successful in an unstable economic and social environment due to the political conflicts in the presence of an annihilated government. Our research concerns the first twenty banks in Lebanon which total of their asset represents 95% of the total asset of the effective commercial banks in Lebanon between 2010 and 2012. This sector is considered as the main catalyst of growth in an open and liberal economic environment. We opted for the qualitative research and we leaned on an interpretativiste epistemology and an approach of research by hybrid exploration in an abductive logic. We have to say that the expression "CSR" was badly interpreted by certain interviewed managers. Their speeches revealed by the interviews, as well as annual reports and web sites assimilate to misleading advertising and philanthropic actions. We were able to notice that the said CSR actions in Lebanon take generic or peripheral forms according to Martinet and Payaud (2008).

Social media in the newspaper newsroom : the professional use of Facebook and Twitter at Rapport and The Mail & GuardianJordaan, Marenet 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil) -- Stellenbosch University, 2012. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In a time of uncertainty for newspapers due in part to dwindling circulation, loss of
advertising revenue and declining readership, Internet-based technologies have continued to
grow. The unprecedented rise of social media, of which Facebook and Twitter are wellknown
examples, has not gone unnoticed by the newspaper community. Despite their initial
misgivings about the credibility of the information disseminated on these media, mainstream
journalists worldwide have gradually started to adopt social media as professional tools.
Social media serve as channels that help to funnel information towards journalists. Some
newspaper journalists also use these media to broadcast news and promote their personal
brands.
The continued use of social media on a professional level will arguably have an
impact on the daily routines and cultures within a newsroom. Academic research in this area
is limited, especially within the South African context. This study explores whether the
professional use of social media, with specific reference to Facebook and Twitter, influences
the processes and cultures of news selection and presentation at the South Africa newspapers
Rapport and the Mail & Guardian. A newsroom study within a social constructionism
paradigm employed a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies,
including self-administered questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and ethnography.
The main findings of this study were that the majority of journalists at Rapport and
the Mail & Guardian used Facebook and Twitter actively on a professional level – mainly for
trend tracking. The newsroom cultures were open and encouraging towards social media use.
Journalists were also aware that social media create opportunities for their audiences to
challenge the traditional roles of journalists and the realities constructed by the mainstream
media. According to the journalists from Rapport and the Mail & Guardian the professional
use of social media had not significantly altered their processes of news selection and
presentation. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Terwyl koerante ’n onsekere tyd beleef, deels weens dalende sirkulasiesyfers, ’n verlies aan
advertensie-inkomste en ’n afname in lesertalle, het Internetgebaseerde tegnologieë aanhou
groei. Die ongekende groei van sosial media, waarvan Facebook en Twitter welbekende
voorbeelde is, het nie ongesiens by die koerantgemeenskap verby gegaan nie. Ondanks hul
aanvanklike bedenkinge oor die geloofwaardigheid van inligting wat op dié media versprei
word, het hoofstroomjoernaliste wêreldwyd geleidelik begin om sosiale media as
professionele hulpmiddels te aanvaar. Sosial media dien as kanale waardeur inligting na
joernaliste vloei. Sommige koerantjoernaliste gebruik ook die media om nuus uit te saai en
hul persoonlike handelsmerk te bemark.
Die volgehoue gebruik van sosial media op ’n professionele vlak sal bes moontlik ’n
impak op die daaglikse roetine en kulture binne ’n nuuskantoor hê. Akademiese navorsing op
die gebied is beperk, veral binne die Suid-Afrikaanse konteks. Hierdie navorsing ondersoek
of die professionele gebruik van sosiale media, met spesifieke verwysing na Facebook en
Twitter, ’n invloed het op die prosesse en kulture van nuusseleksie en
-aanbieding by die Suid-Afrikaanse koerante Rapport en die Mail & Guardian. ’n
Nuuskantoorstudie, binne ’n sosiale konstruktivisme paradigma, het ’n kombinasie van
kwantitatiewe en kwalitatiewe navorsingsmetodologieë ingespan, insluitende:
selfgeadministreerde vraelyste, halfgestruktureerde onderhoude en etnografie.
Die hoofbevindinge van die studie was dat die meerderheid van die joernaliste by
Rapport en die Mail & Guardian Facebook en Twitter aktief op ’n professionele vlak gebruik
het – hoofsaaklik om tendense dop te hou. Die nuuskantoorkulture was oop en aanmoedigend
teenoor die gebruik van sosiale media. Joernaliste was ook bewus daarvan dat sosiale media
geleenthede skep vir hul gehore om die tradisionele rol van joernaliste, sowel as die realiteite
wat deur die hoofstroommedia geskep word, te betwis. Volgens die joernaliste van Rapport
en die Mail & Guardian het die professionele gebruik van sosiale media nie hul
nuusinsamelings- en aanbiedingsprosesse noemenswaardig beïnvloed nie.

La responsabilité sociale des entreprises : une forme de régulation des relations de travail ? / The corporate social responsibility : a regulation form of labour relations ?Fraisse, Wolfgang 12 September 2016 (has links)
La responsabilité sociale des entreprises (RSE), définie comme l’intégration volontaire des préoccupations sociales et écologiques à l’activité commerciale des entreprises et dans leurs relations avec leurs parties prenantes, est devenue le lieu d’une série d’actes et de normes de nature et aux effets divers. Incitées à développer leurs démarches sociales responsables, les entreprises se sont dotées progressivement d’instruments volontaires. Or, comme tout fait social, ces derniers sont susceptibles de donner lieu à interprétation juridique d’autant plus que les sujets sur lesquels ils portent peuvent faire l’objet d’obligations posées par la réglementation étatique. En ce sens, les actes volontaires de RSE peuvent par leur formulation recommandatoire, proclamatoire ou déclaratoire opérer un renvoi au droit positif et constituer ainsi une base informationnelle voire pédagogique de la règle de droit offrant par-là un cadre pour le suivi d’une conduite juste et raisonnée. D’autres instruments peuvent également prescrire des comportements et ainsi constituer des modes de régulation des comportements. De plus, l’intensification de la force normative de ces instruments dits volontaires s’accompagne de leviers juridiques tant contraignants qu’incitatifs favorables au développement de la RSE. Le cadre national contribue de la sorte à façonner les initiatives des entreprises en cette matière. Ce maillage juridique fait de la RSE un espace de diverses formes de régulation. D’acte d’autorégulation lorsque les règles posées sont le résultat d’une volonté unilatérale, l’instrument peut devenir un mode de mise en œuvre du droit lorsqu’il s’inscrit dans le cadre d’obligations légales. Dans cette nouvelle dynamique, il ne faut pas occulter les potentialités juridiques offertes par le droit qui au fil des décisions de justice et analyses permet de concevoir la RSE comme un standard de conduite générateur de formes de régulation et de responsabilités au sein du rapport d’emploi. / The corporate social responsibility (CSR) of major companies, defined as the voluntary integration of social and environmental concerns in both business itself and in the relationships with stakeholders, has become the site of a series of acts and standards of diverse nature and effects. Encouraged to develop social initiatives, firms have experimented with several initiatives to promote the image of social responsibility. However, with any endeavour, these are likely to demand legal assessment, especially as the subjects to which they relate are subject to state regulation. Voluntary acts of CSR can, by their recommandatory, proclamatory or declaratory formulation, refer to hard law and thus constitute an educational or informational basis of the rule of law, offering a framework for monitoring fair and rational conduct. Other standards can also prescribe behaviours and act as a form of control. Moreover, the intensification of the normative force of those voluntary measures involves legal implications, both binding and inspiring CSR development. The national framework helps to shape the initiatives in this area. This legal mesh makes the CSR a space of varying regulation, including self-regulation as a result of unilateral will in light of legal obligations. In this new dynamic, one must not overshadow the legal freedom granted by the law, which, over judgment and analysis facilitates the conception of CSR as a standard of conduct, generating regulation forms and responsibilities within the employment report.
