Os caminhos da revolta em Cabo Verde e a cultura de resistência: as Revoltas dos Engenhos (1822) e de Achada Falcão (1841) / The revolt in Cabo Verde and the culture of resistance: the revolt of Engenhos (1822) and of Achada Falcão (1841)

Pereira, Eduardo Adilson Camilo 18 July 2006 (has links)
The present work intends mainly to make a reflection about two tenant farmers revolts that took place in the island of Santiago in Cape Verde between 1822 and 1841. Aims to show the specificity of the revolt of Engenhos in 1822 and Achada Falcão in 1841, analyzing apart from the metropolis politic panorama, the importance of lands legislations, as elements that made contingents on such revolts that reinterpreted by the tenant farmers in everyday life, perpetrated a culture of resistance, identified in the \"batuco\" and \"tabanca\" regional celebrations. On the other hand, it proposes to demonstrate that, apart from the economic reasons pointed by the historiography, the revolts were found its inspirations in the rituals of representation practiced during the \"tabanca\" procession and during batuco festivity

'Mysterious in content' : the European Union peacebuilding framework and local spaces of agency in Bosnia-Herzegovina

Kappler, Stefanie January 2012 (has links)
This thesis aims to investigate EU peacebuilding in Bosnia-Herzegovina, focusing on the ways in which EU actors engage with local cultural actors and vice versa. Given that, in the liberal peacebuilding tradition, civil society has been considered a key actor in the public sphere, peacebuilding actors have tended to neglect seemingly more marginal actors and their subtle ways of impacting on the peacebuilding process. However, this thesis contends that processes of interaction are not always direct and visible, but centre on discourse clusters, which I frame as imaginary ‘spaces of agency’. Through the creation of meanings within a space of agency and its translation into other imaginary spaces, actors develop the power to impact upon the peacebuilding process, often in coded ways and therefore invisible in the public sphere, as peacebuilding actors, including the EU, have created it. A typology of the modes of interaction and possible responses between spaces helps understand the complexities and nuances of peacebuilding interaction. The thesis uses this framework to analyse several exemplary spaces of agency of the EU, rooting them in institutional discourses with specific reference to Bosnia-Herzegovina. Based on this, I investigate a number of responses to those spaces on the part of local cultural actors, as well as how the latter contribute to the emergence of alternative localised spaces, where the EU’s spaces fail to connect to the everyday dimensions of peace. I suggest that this represents a way in which local actors try to claim the ownership of peacebuilding back in subtle ways. This also points to the ability of actors that have traditionally been excluded from the peacebuilding project to contextualise abstract and distant processes into what matters locally, as well as their capacity to reject and resist when the EU’s spaces remain irrelevant for local peacebuilding imaginations.

Blásfemos e sonhadores: ideologia, utopia e sociabilidades nas campanhas anarquistas em A Lanterna (1909-1916) / Blasphemous and dreamers: ideology, utopia and sociabilities in the anarchists campaigns in A Lanterna (1909-1916)

Andrade, Carlos Eduardo Frankiw de 11 September 2009 (has links)
This research has its core on the political and social stir led by the anarchist militancy of São Paulo around two campaigns that took place between 1909 and 1916: The first, against the Christóvam Colombo Arts and Trades Orphanage and the later in favor of building the so called Modern Schools in São Paulo. Its main documental resource is the records of anarchist militancy participation on the collective forge of the newspaper A Lanterna between 1909 and 1916. This study pursued the constitution of a reading concerning main aspects of sociability developed and incited amidst these flusters and connected directly with educational issues on Brazil over those years. On the articles and briefings collectively made and spread by A Lanterna about both campaigns were found and outlined several signs that point to a singular and yet multifaceted constellation of political, social and cultural aspects of resistance, critique and transformation of the reality they lived. From the records of a collective construction and diffusion of knowledge and practices through the induction of acceptance of sociabilities specific adapted to the circumstances of their agitations were forged instruments for both the denounce of ideological aspects of dominant speech as to the inquiry of their own utopic ideas on their living realities. In the use of these instruments, this research could perceive a clear concern about the coherence between means and goals in the knowledge and practice developed by this militancy.
