Employees' lived experiences of having been declared in excess during a restructuring process

Manamela, K. E. January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the meaning employees attributed to the lived experiences of having been declared in excess in the Gauteng Health Department during restructuring. A qualitative, phenomenological research design was selected as the most appropriate approach in conducting this study. Phenomenology offers both methodological and philosophical perspectives with the aim of developing a greater understanding through description, reflection and awareness of the meaning of having “been declared in excess”. Purposive sampling was implemented. A total of ten (10) female professional nurses participated in the study. Data were collected using one common ontological question that enabled the researcher to gain a greater understanding of what it means to be declared in excess from the participants’ perspective. Data were collected until saturation was reached. Unstructured audio-taped interviews were conducted with study participants. Data were analysed using the method developed by Giorgi (1985). The study highlighted different reactions from different participants despite being exposed to the same experience. / Health Studies / Thesis (D. Litt. et Phil.)

Designing A New Architectural Program: The Norms And Attributes Of Regional Airports / Kutahya-afyonkarahisar-usak

Apaydin, Asli 01 December 2007 (has links) (PDF)
Today&rsquo / s dynamics - the globalization process, economic growth together with late-capitalism, the number of population living in cities and improvements in technology, communication and electronic media - have changed the course of air transportation. As the demand for aviation has increased, the policy of &ldquo / regional air transportation system&rdquo / has begun to be extensive through the world in order to provide an integrated and sustainable air transport system. As for Turkey, together with deregulation of air transportation system in 2003, the government has started the &ldquo / Project of Regional Air Transport&rdquo / . In this respect, some new regional airports are put on the agenda, which required contemporary norms and attributes of regional airport terminals. When regional airport terminals are examined, it is observed that they have typologies, all abstracted from their time-space frameworks. But, today&rsquo / s dynamic architecture attempts to alter this psyche of typology in order to create dynamic and indeterminate spaces in relation to instable transformations in contemporary cities. However, through the restructuring process, in relation to the city context, the static and determinate architecture of regional airport terminal can be challenged. Namely, an architectural program can be utilized as a tool for creating a dynamic architecture. In this respect, by designing a new architectural program for K&uuml / tahya-Afyonkarahisar-USak Regional Airport Terminal, which is on the agenda of the government, this study firstly, examines the norms and attributes of regional airports and secondly investigates how the architectural program of regional airport terminals should be designed according to the needs of contemporary cities in the 21st century.

A ponte Rio Negro e a Região Metropolitana de Manaus: adequações no espaço urbano-regional à reprodução do capital / The Rio Negro bridge and the Metropolitan Region of Manaus: adaptations in urban-regional space to the reproduction of capital

Sousa, Isaque dos Santos 24 June 2013 (has links)
Elas estimularam outras transformações visivelmente percebidas no uso e ocupação do espaço. / This thesis examines the socio-spatial transformations in the counties of Iranduba and Manacapuru, in the state of Amazonas (Brazil), which occurred from 2003 to 2012 as a result of the actions of the State, the capital and the determinants of urban-regional space. These counties, located near Manaus (the capital of Amazonas), experienced profound changes within this period, due to the creation of the Metropolitan Region of Manaus (MRM) and the construction of the Rio Negro bridge. Both were set by the government as critical to the installation of infrastructure in the counties surrounding the capital, and thus heralded as essential for the development of the region. From the observation and monitoring of events, we understand how and why the restructuring process of the space in that region happened. The changes in the transport system, given from the replacement of bimodal road-fluvial transport to the roadway transport, were the changes of greater density in this region. They encouraged other transformations visibly perceived in the use and occupation of space. The valuation of the land and the growth of real estate market, and the expansion of the activities of businesses and services were also producers and resulting from this restructuring of urban regional space. The claim that the MRM and the Rio Negro bridge as State actions aimed at fundamentally the economic and social development of the region is not confirmed, since what was observed by the installation of new infrastructure and the whole process of restructuring the space consisted essentially in adequacies in the territory and social relations to a magnified reproduction of capital.

The demonstrations occurred at the level of interdisciplinarity occur in the current production model flexible and integrated seeking new knowledge in order to optimize the functionality and objectives of the capitalist system of production. Thus, interdisciplinarity in its relationship with the world of work assumes an instrumental rationality / operating where multifunctionality and versatility of workers is constitutive trait of this model of work organization, which directly refutes the set of social practices in which it operates in Healthcare the professional Social Worker. However, articulates a literature search on these categories and a field research qualitative and quantitative, Social Workers with professionals who make up the team at the Hospital network that integrates the city of João Pessoa. We investigated fifteen (15) Social Workers in the sample universe of thirty-nine (39) social workers distributed among Hospitals St. Elizabeth, Hospital Complex MangabeiraTarcisioBuriti Governor and Valentina Municipal Hospital, in 2011, being used in data collection a semi-structured interview. To phase of organizing and analyzing the data provided to graphs and tables, as well as content analysis of the interviewees' statements. Thus, we conclude that the field is part of our investigation fetishized practice of interdisciplinarity in the exercise of professional social worker who comes to camouflage various forms of instability in current relationships and working conditions, under the current restructuring process of capitalist society.

South African policing in transition : evaluating the impact of the restructuring process on the family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit

Van Graan, Johannes Gerhardus 11 1900 (has links)
The primary goal of this study is to promote knowledge and understanding of the restructuring process of the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit in the South African Police Service (SAPS) through impact evaluation. Many evaluation programmes provide blueprints and methods to manage and help solve organisational transformation. They, however, lack dealing with the unique organisational transformation process characterised in the South African Police Service (SAPS). Given this importance, there appears to be potential value in evaluating the impact of the restructuring process in the FCS. During the research extensive panel studies and individual interviews were conducted in the West Rand policing district with FCS members, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) directly involved with family violence, child protection and sexual offences, Senior Public Prosecutors involved with cases concerning the FCS and researchers at a security research institute. Furthermore, a descriptive literature study was conducted to acquire relevant information and perspective from available national and international literature. Various objectives were fulfilled in this study: • The impact of the restructuring process in the FCS, to assess the internal and external climate on service delivery, was identified and described. • It was determined whether the restructuring process in the FCS is achieving its proposed objective. • Feedback to help improve the effectiveness of the restructuring process and improve future strategies was provided. Moreover, this study and its results provide a framework to the SAPS as an organisation that is currently going through an extensive transformation process. As a result, the management of the SAPS will receive first hand information on the areas to specifically focus on during the restructuring of the FCS, or utilised this impact evaluation as a learning curve and an opportunity to rectify shortcomings and also systematically be guided through this process in realisation thereof. Consequently, this impact evaluation could act as a management tool to support and further develop the transformation process in the SAPS. Finally, this study contributes to the baseline of knowledge, with regard to structural transformation in the specialised field of policing. / Police Science / D. Litt. et Phil. (Police Science)

Airports and territory: Emergence of a new strategic actor in the air transport system

Horn, Catharina 20 June 2011 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis deals with the emergence of the airport as a new strategic actor in the air transport system which has undergone profound changes since its liberalisation and within which the airport turned out to be a major player. Considering the airport as an actor in the air transport system, even if it is affected by its environment in a large sense, this work proposes a contribution to current discussion about airport economics. This contribution refers to two levels: an analysis of the European airport business within which the airport emerges as a full player and an analysis of the link between airport strategy and the spatial and territorial context into which the airport is embedded. Based on the differentiation of airport strategies according to the airports’ commitment to certain market segments, the analysis of the spatial and territorial context into which the airports are embedded showed its influence on the development of airports but confirmed also that the latter is not automatic but subject to the dynamics arising from the interactions between the different actors. The emergence of the airport as a new strategic player in the air transport system places the emphasis on the complex relation between airport and territory which is reflected in a number of issues connected with the airport activity.
