Geriatric normative data for the Rorschach for a community-living sample

Paul, Myrene Ellen January 1987 (has links)
The purpose of the present investigation was to gather data on the performance of nonpatient elderly subjects on the Rorschach Psychodiagnostic Test. The Comprehensive System (Exner, 1985, 1986) was used for administering, scoring, and interpreting the Rorschach because it is a research-based form with demonstrated reliability and validity and it has become the most widely used approach to the Rorschach in the past 13 years. However, the norms were based upon an adult sample, ages 18 to 64. Therefore, the present study addressed the following problems: What are the normative data for the Rorschach of a nonpatient group of elderly? How do these normative data of the elderly compare with the normative data for younger adults?Method The study used 60 men and women, ages 65 to 94, all active, nonpatient volunteers with no psychiatric history. They lived independently of any institutional supervision or care. Results Means of Rorschach variables for elderly subjects were compared with the means for a younger adult population. The elderly had significantly lower means for R, P, W, D, S, DQ+, DQ v/+, FQo, M, Ma, Mp, a (active), FC, CF, Wgt Sum C, FC'+C'F+C', FY+YF+Y, Sum Shading, (2), FD, Zd, EA, D score, ADJ D, Blends, Col-Sh B1, X+%, F+%, Pure H, ALL H Cont, DV, DR, INCOM, SUM6 SP SC, and SUM 6 SP SC.The aged subjects produced significantly higher means for the following indices: Dd, FQ-, M-, FM, C+Cn, Lambda, Z-%, S-Constell, SCZI, DEPRI, PER, and PSV.The older adults performed neither significantly higher or lower for these variables: DQo, DQv, FQ+, FQu, m, p (passive), FT+TF+T, FV+VF+V, Fr + rF, F, Zf, es, 3r+(2)/R, FABCOM, ALOG, CONTAM, AG, CONFAB, CP, and MOR.These results indicate that the elderly in this study give responses which are less embellished, complex, synthesized, and conventional and to have percepts that are of poorer quality and are more distorted than those of younger adults. The following nine percentages for the elderly group were significantly higher than for the younger adult group with whom they were compared: M - WSUM C = +1.5 to -1.5, D SCORE < 0, ADJ D SCORE < 0, Zd SCORE < -3.0, X+% < .70, F+% < .70, X-% > .15, Afr < .55, and Pure H < 2.These percentages show that the aged had no preferred problem-solving style, had more stressors than skills to cope with them, are somewhat negligent and less accurate in processing information, avoid emotion, and have less interest in the social environment. / Department of Counseling Psychology and Guidance Services

Torrejon Aguilar, William Alfredo 17 January 2018 (has links)
Construction workers are subject to a number of conditions and requirements impacting their emotions and the way in adapting to the circumstances of the environment. This research aims to describe the emotional expression and the capacity for control in a group of 20 construction workers. For this purpose, clusters of affectivity and control and stress tolerance of Rorschach Comprehensive System (RCS) were used. The results obtained from the sample were compared with a comparison group of similar age and socio-economic situation. In relation to affectivity, variables FC and SumC' were higher in the study group, while blank responses S were found to be decreased. Concerning to the control cluster, D and AdjD scores were better adjusted, while the left side of the eb (FM + m) appeared diminished. The results show that workers tend to involve little with their affections and avoid situations that cause stress. It would favor the appearance of some stability in capacity for control. This functioning could be considered as an adaptive mode which they have been adjusted in order to perform productive, although it would seem to be a characteristic of Lima population. In addition, based on characteristics of construction workers, the implications of the statistical findings, limitations and suggestions are mentioned. / Tesis

It‟s understood, by the majority of the subject researchers, as a high performance of an individual in a particular area of expertise, may result from either a set of predisposing characteristics of the experience and practice in an area of expertise or knowledge. Because of the advent of the Positive Psychology, in the last decade, many studies have been developed with the intention of the fence that promotes and maintains excellence. Accordingly, research on high skills, expertise and wisdom are being held in various parts of the world. In Brazil, there aren‟t many studies about this thematic, the area of the high skills is being contemplated. This doctoral thesis has as objective evaluate individuals considered very competent, successful in their functions and, therefore, of high performance in the management area, as an attempt to treat the theme of expertise in work, from Brazilian data. Divided into three sections, that groups and links information on the managerial role in the Administration, of human excellence in the focus of Positive Psychology and concepts of assessment of psychology personality. The first section provides information about the theoretical excellence, emphasizing the characteristics of personality as one of the determinants of human excellence; based on publications that touch the subject, provides the understanding that besides the variables of intelligence, heredity, physical attributes, context, opportunity/luck and knowledge, is way of being unique of an individual – its personality - that predisposes to exceptional performance in a given field. mThe two following sections present the results of the evaluation of 43 managers, considered high performance by their immediate superiors and peers, from companies of Rio Grande do Sul, all large and with national capital; the instrument used was the method of Rorschach - Comprehensive System, besides a Sheet of Socio-Demographic Data. The managers indicated by the companies as a reference were contacted by an invitation-letter and responded to the instruments individually after they accepted. The protocols of the Rorschach were coded by two independent judges to calculate the degree of agreement in the assessment, which was highly satisfactory (Kappa = 0,85 for determinants, 0,94 for contents e 0,98 for locations). More specifically in the second section are focused on the aspects of personality related to the skills of analysis, planning, initiative, interpersonal relationship and human integration (teamwork), as characteristics of a successful manager as suggested by the literature of the Administration. At the end of the study is considered that certain personality characteristics are peculiar to the managers of high performance. In the last section, are considered the variables relative to the processing of information for managers, given that this is a differential of this function that has the predominant role of the communicator of information between the hierarchical levels of the organization and outside it; the manager works all the time processing, filtering and disseminating information. We tried to intertwine three theoretical models: the Theory of Management Roles by Henry Mintzberg, the Theory of the Information Processing and the Rorschach Response Process Model by John Exner. The results show that these managers are able to collect data, evaluate them and establish rankings adequately; are able to be objective and accurate in the assessment of the problems, that favor them the processing of information and allows the interpretation of the world around them from one mode of processing, or a cognitive style, particular and characteristic to solve problems.

Jímenez Gómez, Fernando 25 September 2017 (has links)
This paper refers to the complementary contribution of Proyectives Cards to the Rorschach Inkblot Test, through the differents Categories and the principal factor of the Rorschach Test. A transversal study has been carried out on 526 adolescents and 300 adult Males and Females. We wish to point out that it is possible to appreciate, on the one hand, that Proyective Cards mean a complementary contribution to the Rorschach Test, and on the other, that adolescents show specific Rorschach protocols different to adults protocols. This study is complementary to the article published in the "Revista de Psicología" with the title: "Complementary contribution of Projectives cards to the Rorschach Psychodiagnostic Test".

_______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This work aimed to assess people in first psychotic crisis under treatment in Early Intervention in First Psychotic-Like Crises Group (GIPSI/UnB), using the Rorschach Comprehensive System (Exner, 1999, 2003, 2005) to dynamically understand common record data among our sample and to verify the validity of a Prodromal Constellation for the Rorschach (Costa, 2011). Data from 35 records were compared to the national and international normative statistics and qualified in the light of psychoanalytical reference. Results suggest that people in our sample do not have the usual indicators of thought disorder or loss of contact with reality, even though they have had such diagnose. Differently, clients show good creative potential guarded under a submissive and passive false self; have a history of conflictive interpersonal relations; tend to live the crisis with feelings of physical vulnerability; have situational depressive features. Statistical problems with the use of the Comprehensive System normative reference with our sample impaired some of the inferences about cognitive mediation, what suggests the need for further investigation using the Rorschach Personality Assessment System (R-PAS, Meyer, Viglione, Mihura, Erard, & Erdberg, 2011). Results do not validate the Prodromal Constellation, but offer possibility to originate a psychological prodromal theory, in the construction of a critical model of early intervention in psychosis, using the construct of severe psychic suffering (Costa, 2003, 2008, 2010a).

_______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The path to the understanding of any suicide attempt is surprisingly complex and requires the analysis of several types of variables. Currently it is recognized that people who make suicide attempts (SA) have different profiles associated to different types of SA. Patientes who make medically serious suicide attempts (MSSA) are most likely to present the profile of people who commit suicide. In order to highlight the Rorschach Inkblot Method (RIM) as a technique to understand this reality, this study presents the analysis of four cases of MSSA. It aims at investigating the structure and dynamics of personality related to indicators of vulnerability and psychopathological configuration, useful for the understanding suicide risk. The results revealed serious limitations and extensive damage in the personality organization of the four subjects. These data refer to poor social skills, cognitive immaturity, poor test of reality, difficulties dealing with emotions, limited resources for coping with demands, low self-esteem and pessimism. All these factors foster sudden loss of control and indicate increased risk of suicide. The analysis of these difficulties helps to establish therapeutic recommendations, psychodynamic focus, proper planning in the psychotherapeutic process. It also allows for anticipation of possible resistances. Results show the need for crisis intervention and long-term treatment of these subjects. The RIM is a technique useful in the assessment of risk, the understanding of the context of risk and with potential for the identification of characteristics of the MSSA group.

An Interpersonal Approach to Rorschach Interpretation

Barton Evans, F. 01 July 2017 (has links)
In response to Kleiger's (this issue) unique invitation to interpret a Rorschach case study from multiple psychoanalytic perspectives, I was asked to present a Rorschach interpretation from Sullivan's interpersonal psychodynamic theory (IPT) perspective. In reviewing the literature, I found no theoretical papers specifically addressing IPT Rorschach interpretation. As such this article will be an initial attempt to integrate the Rorschach with IPT. I will present a brief overview of some of Sullivan's most relevant IPT concepts, suggest where to find them on the Rorschach Comprehensive System (CS), and apply IPT Rorschach variables to the case of Ms. B. Special attention will be given to how the IPT model aids in the dynamic understanding of the Ms. B.'s internal experience and personality functioning; what formal features of the Rorschach lend themselves to key constructs in the model; and how the IPT model addresses the referral questions and adds to an understanding of treatment issues, including likely transference/countertransference themes.
