SMALL SATELLITE NONCOMMUTATIVE ROTATION SEQUENCE ATTITUDE CONTROL USING PIEZOELECTRIC ACTUATORSEvans, Joshua L. 01 January 2016 (has links)
Attitude control remains one of the top engineering challenges faced by small satellite mission planning and design. Conventional methods for attitude control include propulsion, reaction wheels, magnetic torque coils, and passive stabilization mechanisms, such as permanent magnets that align with planetary magnetic fields. Drawbacks of these conventional attitude control methods for small satellites include size, power consumption, dependence on external magnetic fields, and lack of full control authority. This research investigates an alternative, novel approach to attitude-control method for small satellites, utilizing the noncommutative property of rigid body rotation sequences. Piezoelectric bimorph actuators are used to induce sinusoidal small-amplitude satellite oscillations on two of the satellites axes. While zero net change occurs on these signaled axes, the third axis can develop an average angular rate. This noncommutative attitude control methodology has several advantages over conventional methods, including scalability, power consumption, and operation outside of Earth's magnetic field. This research looks into the feasibility of such a system, and lays the foundation for a simple control system architecture.

Bending moments in the support of slabs made by precast joist with lattice reinforcement.Magalhães, Fábio Lopes 19 April 2001 (has links)
This work deal with an usual type of slab in Brazil: slabs made by precast joist with lattice reinforcement. The goal of this work is the structural analysis of bending moments in the supports of slabs made by this kind of precast element. Theoretical and experimental models analyze this type of slab. In the theoretical analysis, the non-linear concrete behavior is done by moment x curvature relationship of Model Code CEB-90 add incremental load technique. The theoretical model is compared with experimental results of continuous strip slabs designed with different degrees of bending moment redistribution. In these analysis had been noted: a) the theoretical model presents good results compared with the experimental results, b) the slabs present good plastic rotation capacity, c) with high negative reinforcement ratio in the support does not happen moment redistribution, d) the displacement is practically independent of negative reinforcement ratio and e) the ultimate load is practically independent of redistribution degree idealized in the design.

Ensino de isometrias na educação básica: uma aplicação didática em sala de aula / Teaching isometrics in basic education: a didactic application in the classroomCona, Debora Costa 18 May 2017 (has links)
In this dissertation we present a sequence of non-traditional activities, focusing on the teaching and learning of Geometry, in particular regarding the Isometrics in the Plan, elaborated for elementary school students, and the result of its application to eight classes of 9th grade , As a way to develop students\' reasoning skills. We used for this experiment the Design Experiment, a teaching experiment based on continuous improvement, and Van Hiele\'s theory based on Adela Jaime-Pastor\'s (1993) doctoral thesis, with a series of activities elaborated and applied by the teacher/researcher involving the translations and the reflections, through the phases of learning and levels of reasoning that the students develop with the application of this theory. This experiment was divided in two moments, application with four classes of 9th grade in 2015 and application with four other groups of 9th grade in 2016, subdivided into two other situations, activities on translations and activities on reflections. The data of this experiment were obtained through the productions of the students, who worked in doubles, in the classroom, recorded through photos, videos and audios recorded by the researcher herself. We also used the paper dolls of Brigitte Servatius (1997), with which we worked on translations and reflections. The students participating in the experiment finalized it with solid notions of the characteristics of the isometries and a visible progress in their level of knowledge. The way the activities were carried out brought reflexes to the routine of these students in the classroom, making it evident that the search for situations that arouse the students\' interest in an innovative way can generate better results and the motivation of continuous learning.

Linear Algebra for Array Signal Processing on a Massively Parallel Dataflow ArchitectureSavaş, Süleyman January 2009 (has links)
This thesis provides the deliberations about the implementation of Gentleman-Kung systolic array for QR decomposition using Givens Rotations within the context of radar signal processing. The systolic array of Givens Rotations is implemented and analysed using a massively parallel processor array (MPPA), Ambric Am2045. The tools that are dedicated to the MPPA are tested in terms of engineering efficiency. aDesigner, which is built on eclipse environment, is used for programming, simulating and performance analysing. aDesigner has been produced for Ambric chip family. 2 parallel matrix multiplications have been implemented to get familiar with the architecture and tools. Moreover different sized systolic arrays are implemented and compared with each other. For programming, ajava and astruct languages are provided. However floating point numbers are not supported by the provided languages. Thus fixed point arithmetic is used in systolic array implementation of Givens Rotations. Stable and precise numerical results are obtained as outputs of the algorithms. However the analysis results are not reliable because of the performance analysis tools.

Previous issue date: 2015-11-30 / The continuous and accentuated development of the digital technologies has provided challenging situations in the educational field. In this context, the use of mobile devices can represent a beneficial time for reflections on the creation of favorable environments for mathematical learning. Particularly the touchscreen devices can contribute to the formation of a new learning space. This research aimed to design, implement and analyze isometries activities using tablet on an ongoing teachers training - in Normal Mode - in Middle Level. The research with characteristics of Design was guided by the following questions: i) how are the touchscreen performances in the resolution of the proposed tasks?; and ii) how do the students handle doing rotations in GeoGebra touch and in Geometric Constructer? As data collection instruments were used (a) researcher records, (b) students' records for the proposed activities, (c) icons sheet, (d) recording audio and video, and (e) recording of touches made in tablet screen using Screen Recorder Pro. The study field was conducted with 10 students of the 1st year in a public school in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. Besides theoretical reflections we conducted the analysis of episodes that emerged from implementations with GeoGebra touch and Geometric Constructer. By a survey with characteristics of Design and marked theoretical referential in vigotskianas conceptions, we conducted theoretical reflections about the gestures and touchscreen manipulation and we illustrate the analysis of interactions that emerged from implementations with GeoGebra touch and Geometric Constructer. The results indicate that the use of tablets, linked to the development of tasks considering the specificities of the software contributes to the construction of mathematical concepts and cognitive development. The analysis also revealed that touchscreen manipulation contributed to perform rotations using two or three fingers and performances that refer to the composition of isometric transformations, providing the (re)construction of meanings.
