This study examines what happens in the situation of intense, multi-sensory instruction for a SEN-student in the subject of mathematics, a student with special education needs in mathematics. What kind of development is happening in terms of the student's number sense, as well as various forms of learning in the teaching process is also something that is studied. The study has a qualitative approach and was implemented as a case study with a SEN-student in the subject of mathematics in year one. The case study includes an intervention with math tests which were taken before and after an intensive teaching of basic number sense. Participant observation of the teaching sequence has been implemented, which also have been filmed. For the analysis Bruner's theory of representations along with Vygotsky's theory of learning from a sociocultural perspective is used. The representations in Bruner's theory is described as the enactive that is action-based, the iconic that is image based and the symbolic which is language-based. The result in this case shows that an intensive instruction with a multi-sensory approach affects the student's number sense in a positive way. The pupils solution frequency between pre- and posttest tripled. The Pupil developed learning in the different representations where initially the enactive representation was used and gradually even the iconic- and symbolic representation. A development including mathematical competences were visible. The results show a positive impact on the pupil self-confidence in mathematical situations, primarily in situations for symbol processing.

IKT verktyg – befrielse eller belastning? : Elever i behov av särskilt stöd och deras uppfattningar om IKT verktyg i lärandet.Lindström, Pia January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this study was to describe and analyse the perceptions that ten 12-15 yearold pupils with special educational need, who had been assigned a personal computer, have about Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the learning process. Data was collected by personal interviews and observations. Sociocultural perspective and phenomenographic research approach were used as theoretical and methodological frameworks in analyzing and understanding the result. The major conclusions were that most respondents perceived the computer as beneficial assistive technology for learning, but some felt singled out by having a computer to assist in learning. Students had various opportunities to succeed in using their tool depending on e.g. knowledge, accessibility and infrastructure around the ICT tool.To identify each pupil’s most successful way of learning with ICT, communication between pupil and teacher were essential.

Sen a snový obraz v dílech surrealistických umělců / The dream and the image of dream in the artworks of surrealist artistsLEXOVÁ, Petra January 2013 (has links)
The topic of this dissertation is the phemomenon of the dream, dreamy picture and their projection into the creation of surrealist artworks. The disertation tries to connect the basic knowledge of psychoanalysis and the history of art. The thesis attepmts to solve the questions of how the dream imagination is different from the imaginative art of the previous centuries and how the dream topics are involved in the artworks. One of the most important resources for the art work of surrealism was in the psychoanalysis and the knowledge of the work of Sigmund Freud. That is the reason why the first part of this thesis is dedicated to Freud?s The Interpretation of Dreams and the dream symbolism ? its origin, knowledge resources and reflection in the fine arts. The closing chapter uses the previously undiscovered knowledge to present the work of Jindřich Štýrský and tries to indicate how the dream imagination was projected to the artwork of this signifiant surrealist painter.

Adoptivfamiljens möjligheter : En intervjustudie om nyblivna adoptivfamiljers handlingsutrymme i samhälletWesterlund, Alejandro January 2018 (has links)

Vystěhovalectví z Uherska do Spojených států amerických v období 1867-1880 / Hungarian Emigration to the United States of America from 1867 to 1880Beňačková, Miroslava January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis will be dealing with the process of emigration from the former Hungarian Kingdom to the USA (specifically via the ports of the state of New York) in the period from 1867 to 1880. Its aim will be to capture the economic and social situation of the immigrants after their arrival to the USA, their association with each other in the early organizations and ethnic determination. Based on primary sources, it will produce statistics. It will deal with their perception by the local inhabitants as well and it will attempt to answer the question, to what extent did they manage to fulfill "the American dream". The characteristics of the observed period will be the outcome, together with the attempt to confirm the hypothesis that this period was the preparation stage for the economic migration beginning in the 1880s. Key words: emigration, Hungary, United States of America, american dream, economic migration, immigration, ethnicity

Educators' perceptions of the appropriateness and relevance of the National Curriculum Statement for learners at Special Youth Careand Education Centres in the Western CapePetersen, Carola January 2009 (has links)
Magister Educationis - MEd / This study provides educators with an opportunity to share their commitments and biases, their beliefs about what these learners need and what, as educators, they have to offer them. The study focuses specifically on what curriculum educators believe should be offered to the youth in these centres. It is important to note that the focus of the thesis is on the educational debates and challenges within SYCECs, and not on the overall goals and role to be played by these institutions in rehabilitating youth. This piece of work acknowledges the systemic issues that impact on learning and development of youth, but foregrounds what learners in SYCECs should be taught and why. This is its main contribution. / South Africa

Stroj na americký sen: Protisystémová fikce Coovera, Thompsona, Burroughse, a Acker / The American Dream Machine: Anti-Systemic Fictions of Coover, Thompson, Burroughs, and AckerNovická, Tereza January 2017 (has links)
Thesis Abstract The thesis examines manifestations of transgression in Robert Coover's The Public Burning (1977), Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream (1971), William S. Burroughs' Naked Lunch (1959) and The Nova Trilogy (1961-1967), and Kathy Acker's Empire of the Senseless (1988) on a structural and thematic level. Georges Bataille's theory of escalated excess and Michel Foucault's theory of the transgression-limit power dynamics, outlined in Chapter One, provide the theoretical framework through which the texts are analyzed, as through concepts of the spectacle, the carnival, taboo, and the Situationist détournement practice. The nature of the American Dream Machine is explored in regards to its chief components of control; the American war on abstractions, American exceptionalism, and the American Dream, examined through their contradictory connotations and historical relevance. The thesis proposes that despite their anti- systemic drive, the selected texts are complicit with and dependent on the American Dream Machine in perpetuating their power play. In Chapter Two, the hyperbolization of American Cold War propaganda rhetoric is analyzed in Coover's The Public Burning. Chapter Three details Thompson's gonzo writing against the...

Vulnerability and Agency: Reframing Disability through the Capabilities Approach. A Case Study of Women with Physical Disabilities in Lusaka, ZambiaMeilleur Sarazin, Michèle January 2012 (has links)
This study explores the concepts of vulnerability, agency, and actors with relation to the capability development and deprivation of women with physical disabilities in Lusaka, Zambia. Based in the human development paradigm and Sen and Nussbaum’s Capabilities Approach, it seeks to critically explore what impact being born, raised, and living as a woman with a physical disability in a developing country has on the development of capabilities. It also seeks to identify and analyze the involved processes, actors, and environmental factors. A main finding is that capability deprivation for women with physical disabilities is not simply caused by disability, or by gender, but by a multitude of factors. These include: the environment, social contexts, and relative poverty in which the women live; the particular cultural repertoires that surround them; and the actors with whom they interact. However, disability can, and often does, exacerbate the complex life situations in which the women find themselves.

CFD Modelling and Mathematical Optimisation of a Continuous Caster Submerged Entry NozzleDe Wet, Gideon Jacobus 31 January 2006 (has links)
In the continuous casting of steel, the Submerged Entry Nozzle (SEN), in particular the SEN geometry, has a primary influence on the flow pattern: the SEN controls the speed, direction and other characteristics of the jet entering the mould. The SEN is however relatively inexpensive to change (in comparison with other continuous casting equipment). Thus; there is a feasible incentive to exactly understand and predict the flow of molten steel through the SEN and into the mould, in order to maximise the quality of the steel by altering the design of the SEN. By changing the SEN geometry and SEN design, the flow pattern in the mould will also change: it is thus possible to obtain an optimum SEN design if (or when) the desired flow patterns and/or certain predetermined temperature distributions are achieved. Expensive and risky plant trials were traditionally utilised to “perfect” continuous casting processes. As opposed to the plant trials, this dissertation is concerned with the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling of the SEN and mould, which, when used in conjunction with the Mathematical Optimiser LS-OPT, will enable the optimisation of the SEN design to achieve desired results. The CFD models are experimentally verified and validated using 40%-scaled (designed and built in-house) and full-scale water model tests. This dissertation proves that the CFD modelling of the SEN and mould can be quite useful for optimisation and parametric studies, especially when automated model generation (geometry, mesh and solution procedures) is utilised. The importance of obtaining reliable and physically correct CFD results is also emphasised; hence the need for CFD model verification using water modelling. / Dissertation (MEng (Mechanical Engineering))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering / unrestricted
