Vývoj a postavení ženských postav v počítačových hrách o Zaklínači / The development and position of female characters in the Witcher video games series

Boukalová, Kateřina January 2018 (has links)
This work focuses on the analysis of visual representation, behaviour and development of female characters in the video games series the Witcher, which consists of three games with consequential stories. The aim of this work is to analyse all female characters that appear in this three-part series, from main characters to supporting characters and female monsters. In the first part of this work, there is the theoretical clarification of the basic gaming terms and how the gender problematics are connected with video games - namely femininity, sexism and basic female archetypes, which are an inseparable part of games. Furthermore, the thesis introduces the origin of the Witcher world as well as its main hero, Geralt, and briefly introduces the plot of the series. In the second part of this work, the three main characters of the series are analysed in the terms of their visual representation, behaviour, motivation as well as their relationship with the main hero, their behaviour during fights and their relationships with other characters. Furthermore, this work analyses selected female characters, which are examined as individuals (for example sorceresses and warriors) or as groups (for example village women, town women and vampires), according to how significant they are. This thesis focuses on how...

E Maria vai com as outras: uma abordagem feminista sobre as mulheres na igreja

Soelma Costa da Fonseca Lima 09 June 2011 (has links)
This research proposes to make an analytical study about gender relations that happen in the religious space of the church. The base portion of the study of feminist interpretation in dialogue with the actions of women leaders in churches today. The struggle of women in the Church does not aim to destroy traditions. The commitment of the feminist movement is an end to male domination and patriarchal structure. Thus, it is believed that there will be an achievement of rights but without taking the space of men. These writings also propose to raise discussions on the right of women to the priesthood, based on the biblical Mary Magdalene. It is a scary phenomenon to the androcentric culture, the ordination of women, as it has been expanding every day and with the authority until it is broken that paradigm sexist that a woman can not be the frontline in the Church. There will also be a dialogue redefines the concept of love and the search for the dignity of self, from Levinas.

Monica Ali’s Brick Lane – Fiction, Yet Relevant : The Plight of Bangladeshi Women from a Fictive Perspective

Crusensvärd, Gustaf January 2011 (has links)
This essay focuses on the topics of sexism and the function of gender and oppression in Monica Ali’s Brick Lane. Instances in the novel are related to real world incidents in order to show how Ali, in spite of her Western upbringing and perspective, has accurately depicted several problematical cases of injustice in Muslim culture. Even though Ali has been criticized for her, supposedly, incorrect portrayal of Bangladeshis in London, this essay will argue that the topics of the novel remain relevant in the larger scheme of Muslim society.

Firefighter or Fireman? Teachers’ attitudes towards gender neutrality in the foreign language classroom

Wessman, Sofia January 2007 (has links)
This essay investigates the extent and significance of a gender decisive language in the foreign language classroom. Focus lies on teachers teaching English as a foreign language and their attitudes towards gender neutrality from a pure linguistic point of view. My starting point was previous research done concerning my topic and the survey was performed through questionnaires that were sent out with both qualitative and quantitative questions to thirty teachers.   My findings indicate that the teachers contradict themselves when answering the questionnaire. Their knowledge of gender neutrality is surprisingly low, but they think they know more than they actually do. It is essential to teach more about gender decisive language in schools and at the Teachers’ Education to promote equality. Conclusions can be drawn that this is an issue not dealt with enough and that teachers seem to have a distorted image about their approach concerning gender neutrality.
